Author's Note: Guys, I am a complete asshole. I apologize. I promised to finish this before college and even this chapter isn't the end. It's been over a month since i've gotten to college and I think I'm pretty adjusted to it now but i just hadn't had teh motivation and I feel like a dick because I said I'd be done with it by now and I'm not. I'm so sorry you guys, and I'm sorry for what I might do to all your feels in this chapter. I love you all and know that it's because I'm stupid that it's taken this long. I'm not going to promise when I'll finish the next chapter cuz then it'd just seem like a lie. I truly sincerely apologize about my lack of commitment to my word and I feel like a complete jerk. I'm sorry. And I hope you all enjoy this chapter and bear with me until the next one.
EDIT: I've edited Ch. 20, 24, and 26 now to fix my errors in timing when it came to Jean and Shego and Daniel and Shego's relationship. I'll explain all the changes here so you don't have to reread it all. They weren't super big changes, just a few sentences here and there, so I should be able to explain it rather easily. So... Here goes: Shego and Jean were friends before Shego was hit by the meteor. They weren't close or anything, but they were on good terms. They had not dated at this point. When Shego met Daniel and they dated, some time after Shego was hit by the meteor Jean and Shego lost contact for a bit since Shego was trying to cope with it. Now then, the first time she'd be attending the gala GREEN and dressing as a guy (she'd dressed as a guy for previous galas) she flirted with Jean. She was not flirting seriously, but more like a 'for the hell of it' sort of thing. She would never cheat on Daniel (even tho we all know that prick cheated on her). So they became friends again, and Jean easily accepted the fact that Shego was green skinned - she found it cool. When Daniel and Shego broke up, Jean was the one who picked up the pieces and supported her - they didn't actually date until a YEAR after. It was rocky for a bit since they'd been best friends for a while now, but they made it work for quite some time. So there we go. Jean and Shego knew each other but hadn't dated before meeting Daniel. They dated after Shego broke up with him. OK, that should be everything :D Sorry about all the confusion you guys ^^; and Thank you kind sir who pointed out the error in my plot. It was much appreciated :)
The green skinned woman pulled the redhead close, leaving no space between them. She didn't care that quite a few of the couples on the dance floor were still looking in interest. They were somewhat intrigued and wondering if Shego and Kim were really not dating, or if that was just said to annoy Daniel.
The redhead continued to look around, obviously nervous, feeling the eyes on her.
"You alright, Pumpkin?"
"I'm not used to this sort of attention," she mumbled. She could feel the older woman's breath against her cheek, and she could hear Shego's heartbeat. It seemed pretty erratic. Or was that her own? She hoped it wasn't her own. If it was, she was worried that Shego could hear it too.
Shego pulled back slightly and raised both her eyebrows. "You were a teen hero and a cheerleader. You get attention all the time."
Kim's face turned slightly red, "Not this sort of attention."
"Ooooh, you're not used to being caught in a love triangle," she said playfully. "Too much love for the little Princess to handle?"
"I've been in love triangles before," she huffed, "just never one that involved another woman being interested in me. With men it was easier, I guess. I mean, that's what I've always dated, so picking between two guys is easy... I always like one more than the other. When it comes to a girl, I have no idea how to take it. I mean, I don't even know if I like anyone right now… and you know you like me and then there's Daniel who likes you. It just gets so confusing. Having guys fall all over me was so simple, so normal."
Shego cocked an eyebrow and smirked, "Are you trying to make me jealous?"
The hero's eyes widened in surprise, "What? No! Why would I try to make you jea-"
"I'm kidding. Don't get your panties in a pretzel," she laughed.
Kim frowned. "My… underwear is not in a pretzel."
Shego leaned forward and pulled the girl a little closer, whispering into her ear, "You sure? I could always check for you if you'd like."
The redhead shivered slightly as the older woman's warm breath brushed up against her ear, making it tingle slightly. Her entire face went red at how close Shego was, and what her enemy was implying.
"That's not necessary, thank you very much," she managed to huff. Her lips were quivering slightly, and she hoped she sounded as serious as she thought.
The green skinned woman only chuckled as they continued to dance, their conversation ending there.
Kim did her best to calm her heart. Without conversation it made it harder for her to believe that Shego wasn't paying attention to her every move and feeling every shallow breath and the wild pounding of her heart.
As the song came to an end, Shego led the redhead off the dance floor, "Want to take a walk?" By disappearing through the crowd, all the onlookers lost sight of the intriguing duo.
Shrugging the hero agreed, escaping the wandering eyes and following her enemy along beach, walking at the edge of the ocean.
Neither said a word for a while, the only sound filling their ears being the ocean. They'd been walking along the beach for around half an hour before the silence was broken and Kim couldn't help herself and asked, "Why do you still hang around me?"
Shego raised an eyebrow, halting in her steps.
Kim flustered for the right words, stopping beside the older woman and staring at her feet. "I mean, I was a complete jerk to you and called you a," she cringed slightly, "'stupid fucking lesbian.' I act like such a child when I get angry and I just, I don't know. I feel like there's nothing about me worth liking, and even when I've basically proven what a total bitch I can be you still hang around. I don't get it." She shuffled her feet nervously in the sand, digging a little hole with all of her movement.
The green skinned woman chuckled a bit, wrapping her arm around the redhead's shoulder. "Kimmie, people say things when they're angry. I get it. I mean, I am the one that was tricking everyone into believing I was a guy, so that was partially my fault. And so what if you act like a child when you get angry? Everyone has their own way of coping. I mean, I like to blow things up or accidentally remove a screw or two from Drakken's death rays and whatnot when pissed. It takes him weeks to figure out why something's not working. Sometimes I'll just set a henchman on fire and watch as they all scramble around to put him out. I'm much more childish than you."
"But that's who you are. You're supposed to be a cranky badass villain who likes to piss people off. I'm supposed to be a sweet goody-two shoes hero. I'm not supposed to be childish. I have to be mature and composed. Nobody wants a childish person coming to their rescue. They want someone they can be confident in. I have to be that someone."
"No you don't. You're a human being. You're meant to have faults, we all are. If you don't have them, how are we to know that you're really who you say you are? That you aren't hiding some sort of villainous self beneath all the pretty smiles and nice actions?" She flashed a warm smile at the girl and continued. "Besides, you only mentioned what you believe to be bad. You haven't mentioned a single one of your good qualities. You're kind. You'll help anyone out in their time of need. You're a good guy, saving the world. You're a great listener and you're always there for your friends. You've got a kind heart and your actions prove it. And hey, let's not forget the most important things of all. You've got a smoking hot body, which I take credit for after whipping you into shape during our battles," Kim rolled her eyes, "and you're a good kisser."
Kim opened her mouth to say something in retort, hoping to control her slowly reddening face, but she couldn't seem to form words with the older woman's lips pressed against hers.
After her eyes slowly closed and she melted into the kiss for several seconds, the redhead seemed to realize what she was doing and shoved Shego back I alarm, her eyes as wide as dinner plates. She put her hand over her mouth in shock and took a few steps back, and before the villain could say anything, the hero had taken off running in the other direction, back to the party, back to where other people were waiting, and away from the person making her so conflicted.
Shego was her enemy. This was only a temporary truce. She couldn't be falling for the villain. That wasn't allowed. It could never be allowed.
And so she ran. She ran from her feelings, she ran from reality, and most of devastating of all, she ran from Shego.
A/N: Soooo what'd you all think? Good? Bad? Did I possibly piss you all off because now you may have to wait forever for the next chapter to find out what happens? Yeah... sorry about that. When I started writing this chapter I meant to maybe end it on a happy note, but then I was an idiot and decided to drag it on... so yeah ^^; I have no idea how many more chapters because I had not been planning on put this little problem between the two in here. Whoops. Sorry ya'll.
