Author's Note: Ok, so, fun story - the reason i was motivated to write wasn't because someone reminded me or i had an ingenious idea for what to do, because i had none... but last night there was a power outage, so my dad and i had to go home from the house we were working on and set up a generator to make sure the subpump was working to keep from any flooding - and my mom opens the front door for us while holding a candle... so after getting the generator up and running, i have the urge to write by candlelight... so i grabbed two scented candles, sat down in the office, and wrote with a pencil and paper. It's been a long time since i've worked on a story on paper... it was fun :D So yeah, I wrote all this during a power outage whilst surrounded by candles, it was fun :D anyways, I hope you guys enjoy this :)

Shego stretched out on her bed in an ungraceful fashion. It'd been a long day at work, one of many since she'd taken up the job at Mego's friend's ski resort a month or so back. It wasn't very hard work – no real manual labor involved, just working the front counter and assigning people to their rooms and explaining different attractions. It was hard because she had to deal with people. She had been getting better at putting up with idiots, but she was fed up with people questioning her skin color or trying to pick her up, most of those commenting being college boys who were nowhere near Shego's league.

The one good thing was that she was too busy with work to think about Kim, and the only time she wasn't busy was the few seconds before she'd fall asleep. Those few seconds were still enough though, and at times Kim would be all Shego could dream about, and it made it hard.

This night was like many of the others. She would dream of their last dance, and then the sadness would overpower her and when she'd wake up she'd find tear stains on her cheeks.

When she woke up the next morning she was angry at herself for crying in her sleep again – and so she was more than happy to deal with idiots all day to get her mind off the redhead. It was a never ending cycle of distractions and unhappiness.

Thankfully, at the very least, the distractions were abundant. Today's distraction was the owner's newly turned 18 year old daughter.

"Shego, come on! It took me forever to get my parents to give you the day off for my birthday! I don't want you wasting the time that could be spent having you teach me how to snowboard!"

"I'm coming, I'm coming" Shego replied, rolling her eyes.

They climbed onto the ski lift and once strapped in, the girl thought it was the perfect time to interrogate her parent's employee and her friend's sister.

"So… I heard you used to be a good guy and then a villain. What are you now?"

Shego groaned, "Annalicia, what did I say about asking about my past?"

"It's Anna… and you said that it's off limits and that's basically you're only rule for talking to you."

"Precisely, so that means you should follow the rules."

"I'm a teenager, I'm in my rebellious phase. I'm allowed to break the rules," she grinned. "So, what are you now?"

Shego sighed, "I guess I'm just a normal cranky adult who has a job at a ski resort and is stuck chaperoning a kid."

Anna ignored the latter half of what Shego said as she readjusted her hat over her fiery red hair. "So why'd you turn evil? And why are you now just an everyday person?"

Shego could tell that Anna would pester her until she had all her questions answered and so she gave in. "I became evil because I was bored… and angry. Being a hero seemed great at first,, but then I was ridiculed for looking different. The people I saved were the people who, in the end, stabbed me in the back. So I was angry and sad and decided that if people couldn't accept or respect me, they would have to fear me."

"They sound like jerks," Anna frowned.

Shego smiled ruefully, "Oh they were. They were high school students, bred to be prejudiced against people who were different"

"So then what made you normal?"

The green skinned woman fell silent.

Anna cocked her head to the side. "Shego?"

After releasing a long sigh, Shego said, "I wanted to change for someone."

"Oo, so for love, eh? And what happened with him?" She inched a little closer in excitement, until she saw the older woman's downcast eyes.

"She was the hero I was the villain. My slate isn't easily wiped clean, and she can't even be friends with someone she's meant to put away for life. I figured the least I could do was give up crime. Even if she and I can never talk again – at least she'll know I'm trying."

Anna fell silent.

They were almost to the top of the lift when Anna asked, "Is the girl Kim Possible?"

"Yeah."

"When talking with Mego he was telling me how she was your arch-nemesis."

Bitterly Shego replied, "Yeah and that's why we can never even be friends."

Anna huffed, "That's not fair, people change!"

Shego pat the girl's head and smiled slightly. "Only some of us change, kiddo – and nobody but me can ever truly know if I've changed."

"I still think you have."

"Thanks, you're probably the only one."

They hopped off the top of the lift and from then on the only topic was snowboarding and how to keep Anna from falling on her face every five seconds.

It was getting dark when Anna and Shego headed back to the lodge. Anna was now capable of going a whole minute without falling, but she still couldn't stop, and Shego would have to help her to avoid ramming into anything or anyone.

The two had put their gear away and were on their way to grab a hot chocolate and some dinner. Shego occasionally worked in the kitchen when the chef was sick or late, so she went into the kitchen to make their food while Anna claimed a spot for her and Shego.

Shego had previously snuck into the kitchen the night before to prepare a large birthday cake and as planned, after dinner, Anna's parents and friends would appear out of nowhere and would sing Happy Birthday to her. She would love it.

A blond guy plopped down in Shego's seat and turned to chat with Anna, in hopes of picking her up. He was met by a scowl which confused him. He hadn't even opened his mouth yet.

"You're sitting in my friend's seat."

His eyes widened and he quickly stoop up, "I am so sorry about that.. I just saw you and wanted to say hello, I didn't mean to upset you."

It'd been a while since Anna had met someone who seemed entirely sincere when apologizing. It was nice. "It's alright. Sorry I snapped at you. I just didn't want anyont to take her seat."

"No worries," he grinned. He turned when someone called his name. Before hurrying off he held out his hand and said, "I'm Ron." He had a goofy grin on his face.

She took his hand. "Anna. Pleasure to meet you."

"Oh no, the pleasure is all mine."

"RON!" yelled the same woman from before.

"I'm off," he grinned, waving as he hurried after the redhead who'd called him.

As Shego was leaving the kitchen with their dinner, she gave a faint nod to Anna's parents. It was almost time.

Shego set their plates down and Anna immediately dived in.

"You know, there was this kinda cute guy who tried taking your seat to flirt with me. I kinda wish I'd given him more of a chance," Anna said as she shoveled food into her face. "Woah. You're cooking is delicious."

"I know," Shego smirked. "And Anyways, I thought you were tired of random guys flirting with you. I mean, I know I am, and I've only been here like a month."

The younger girl shrugged, "I dunno why, but he seemed different. Genuine. Didn't look the brightest, but he seemed really nice."

"Well don't worry, you'll probably see him again – after all, most people are here for at least three days or so."

"Yeah… but…."

"But?"

"He was with a girl."

Shego frowned, "Then forget him. Nothing good comes from a guy who flirts with another woman when his girlfriend is right there."

I guess…" Anna mumbled, eating the last bit of food.

Shego smiled as she brought the dishes back to the kitchen. "Be right back kiddo, I'm going to grab us some cake."

"Ok."

Shego disappeared into the kitchen, and Anna's eyes wandered around the rom. They fell on the blond guy and the girl he was with. They seemed to be having a good time chatting.

Anna's eyes met his as the lights suddenly went out and Shego came out of the kitchen, wheeling in a five tier cake with over 25 candles in it and almost all of Anna's friends and family following suit.

Anna's jaw dropped as everyone sang and swarmed around her. Guests at the lodge looked on in interest and entertainment, some even joining along in the singing.

As the song came to an end, Shego grinned and took a seat beside Anna. "Make a wish kiddo – and Happy Birthday."

Anna finally reacted, jumping up and squealing in delight, blowing out the candles and planting a kiss on Shego's cheek.

Her friends and family laughed as they congratulated her and turned on the lights to cut the cake and serve it to everyone, including those staying at the lodge who had no clue what was happening prior to the event.

Shego smiled and watched Anna light up as she talked to others, unaware of the olive eyes that were watching her.
