Author's Note: Hey guys! Happy New Year! Sorry that it's been so long. I wish I could give you a really fantastic reason that explained all and made you content with why I haven't been writing - but honestly I'm just a lazy bum and I apologize for that. This chapter has not been beta'd and i apologize for that as well, but I just know it's been so long and I feel so bad and it's New Years now and I just really wanted to put this out there so you all would have a present for after you wake up from your alcohol induced slumber and have a total headache and whatnot - and even tho you'll be sensitive to light and loud noises and feel like shit, maybe this can help you feel a little happy :p Well I doubt you'll want to read it while hungover, but at the very least you can be happy knowing there is a new chapter up - and a pretty long one at that! Anyways, Please enjoy this guys, and again, I'm sorry it's so late!
"Possible," Kim said, putting the Kimmunicator to her ear. She scrolled through her website seeing what requests she might want to tackle after she finished vacation.
"Ms. Possible, this is Agent Will Du. We have worked together on a few cases before."
Kim stopped scrolling to focus on the phone call. "Yes, I remember you. What's the sitch?"
"Global Justice has decided to assign you with a job – even though I do not believe you to be completely qualified for it."
Kim scrunched her brow, "What? Assigned me a job? They can't just-"
"It is the terms of the agreement for Shego's situation. You are to come into the office in two days time to discuss things with Dr. Director She will debrief you and Shego then."
"Wait – I'm meeting there why? Did you say Shego is going to be there?"
"That is all I've to say. We'll see you in two days."
"Will, wait – you aren't explaining things clearly."
"It's Agent Du, Ms. Possible. The details will be given at the meeting. 10am sharp. Do not be late."
He hung up before she could protest. She really hated his uppity attitude, but she was going to meet Shego, which meant she could thank her, and that was all she was worried about. Whatever job that Global Justice had for her she could decline if it wasn't to her tastes.
She put the Kimmunicator down and stared at her computer screen for a couple minutes before the door opened and Monique strolled in. The redhead's best friend looked at her and cocked an eyebrow. "What's up, Kim?"
Kim started slightly. "Huh? Oh, I'm… not entirely certain. GJ apparently has a job for me, and it has to do with Shego…? I think I can see her in two days."
Monique cracked a smile, "Isn't that good? Now you can thank her."
"Yeah, but this is GJ. Why would Shego go there willingly? They'd just throw her in prison the second she walked through their doors – unless there's a truce or something, but that seems odd… right?"
Monique placed her hand on the girl's shoulder and squeezed slightly, "Come on, don't fret so much about it – how about we not think about it right this second and I go grab our dinner, hmm? I know it's a bit late, but I know you haven't been touching your food much."
Kim ran a hand through her hair as she deeply sighed, "Yeah, thanks. Maybe I can finally eat something."
"I'll be right back." Monique grinned and headed towards the kitchen, grinning all the way there.
When Monique pushed open the kitchen doors she found most of the staff looking rather skittish and staying far away from the woman currently working over one of the grills. Even Monique was a little shocked to find Shego humming to herself while she worked.
"Umm, hey Shego," Monique said carefully, standing a couple feet back. This might have been scarier than when she was wielding plasma.
Shego turned and had a small smile on her face. Even though she was exuding joy she managed to keep her facial features under check, without a giant grin, even though she really wanted to smile so wide her face split.
"Oh! Hey Monique, what's up?"
"I uh, was hoping to grab some dinner. I take it that the phone call Kim just received is the reason you're so giddy."
Shego nodded.
"You mind explaining? Because I don't think whoever Kim talked to told her all the details." Monique was ushered towards the back room while Shego grabbed someone else to take over what she was preparing.
Once the door was closed Shego said, "I'm being pardoned."
Monique's jaw hit the floor. "What?"
"I've agreed to help GJ take down a lot of the villains and they'll pardon me. They'll just have Kimmie be my parole officer – or the equivalent of one – for a while."
"Wait…. So you aren't a villain anymore?"
"Not according to GJ or Interpol's databases."
Monique couldn't help but squeal and throw her arms around the older woman, "That is FANTASTIC! Kim is gonna be so excited!"
Shego was taken aback by the hug, but the mood was infection so she didn't push the other girl off. Monique let go a couple seconds later and was still beaming. "You have to go tell Kim what's going on!"
Shego's smile wavered. "It… might be a little soon. I mean, I'll see her in two days. More time for me to mentally prepare. Betty made sure to give me some time."
"…Betty? Wait, no never mind that. You should seriously go talk with Kim. She's been dying to see you, and I think sooner is better than later."
Shego's smile had practically disappeared and been replaced with knit brows. "I don't know. I don't even know how I'd go about that conversation yet. I don't even know what excuse I'd use to suddenly show up at her room."
"I came down here for our dinner, so you could use that as an excuse," Monique offered.
"Yeah… but I just don't think I'm ready."
Monique stared her down. "Shego, you are a bad ass ex super villain who doesn't take shit from anybody. You are sassy and scary and dangerous. I'm pretty sure you can handle most situations."
The green woman chuckled. "I'm glad you think so highly of me, but I'm still not used to this sort of situation."
"You have BLATANTLY flirted with her before. I think that you can handle this. Just take her up some dinner. I'll go chill in the lobby. I think I saw Ron and his lady friend there. I'll just third wheel for a while."
Shego stuffed her hands in her pockets, "You sure? I really don't know if this is the best idea."
"Just go," Monique laughed. "Get yourself and her some food and go." She rummaged through her pocket and pulled out her room key, "Here. Room 2016."
Shego hesitantly took it and turned to grab some food. She then turned back and said, "Thanks."
"Of course."
Monique headed towards the lobby as she said and Shego took her apron off and grabbed two steak platters with a side of vegetables and went for the elevator. She took a few deep breaths as she stepped off the elevator and looked at the room numbers.
"2012… 2014… 2016. There." She took one last deep breath before opening the door.
Kim was still seated at the desk, but she was leaning on the palm of her hand and staring out the window at the snow that was coming down, adding another layer to the blanket of snow already on the ground.
"Hey Mo, thanks for grabbing the food," Kim said, still not looking towards the door.
Shego stepped farther into the room and over to the redhead, placing the two plates of food down, one in front of the hero, and one to the side for herself. She then placed a hand on Kim's shoulder. The redhead was surprised by how warm the hand was.
"Hey Princess."
Kim's eyes went wide and she whipped around, spinning in her chair to face the ex-villain. "Shego?" she breathed.
The taller woman smiled warmly and took a seat on the bed next to the desk. "I'm glad you're doing alright."
The redhead's mouth opened and closed a few times before she uttered, "Thank you."
"Don't thank me, I'm pretty sure a lot of people are glad you're okay," Shego chuckled.
Kim fiddled with the hem of her shirt, "Yeah… but you're the one who saved me."
Shego rubbed the back of her neck as she said, "It's no big." She almost winced when she realized she'd stolen the younger girl's phrase, but Kim didn't seem to mind. "You save people's lives all the time."
"I guess. I'm just, I'm not used to anyone other than Ron or Wade saving me… much less the partner of my old arch-nemesis."
Shego shrugged, "Well, I prefer that you think of me as a friend, or rather an acquaintance than just an accessory to Dr. D."
Silence fell over them. Shego had no idea what to say now and she was racking her brain, not knowing where to start first. Thankfully she didn't have to come up with anything.
"Agent Will Du from Global Justice called me a while ago."
"Oh?"
"He said that I was needed at GJ and there would be a meeting between you, me, and GJ. He didn't elaborate on it… but do you know what's up?" Her eyes implored Shego looking for the answers to more than just that question.
"It's part of the terms."
"What terms?"
"For me to be removed from any database as a criminal. They were having a long debate over whether I could really help and would, and so I suggested that I get a chaperone… and I may or may not have brought your name into it, and they thought it was a good idea."
The girl blinked a few times before asking, "So… I'm meant to chaperone you?"
"More like be my parole officer. I'd probably just check in with you every now in then. Maybe for the first week or two they'll want me to shadow you so that you know I'm not doing anything suspicious, but after that I assume they'll just want you to keep tabs on me." Shego fell silent for a moment. "I'm sorry that I didn't bring this up with you beforehand, I just didn't want to say anything when I wasn't sure what was going to happen. I wanted to prove to you that I'm not a criminal anymore, and to do that I had to stop being a wanted woman."
Kim's eyes softened, "I know you're not a bad person anymore. I've known that for a while."
"Yeah, but we couldn't be friends because I was wanted. If you agree to the terms when we meet with GJ, It'll be set in stone. I won't be wanted anymore. Us talking won't go against your morals and ethics and whatnot." Shego balled her fists slightly as she continued. "I thought maybe we could finally try to be closer if I fixed things. And with you being my kind of parole officer we'd be able to get to know each other better and be friends without anyone thinking or weird or anything. That's if you still wanted to, you could've changed your mind and I won't be mad at your for that or anything." Shego was going to continue rambling on when Kim placed a hand on the woman's knee.
"Shego, I… I'm just a little surprised is all. I haven't changed my mind though. I would like to get to know you more and be able to hang out with you. Even if I do have to do this whole parole thing for it, I'm willing to try. I'm mad at myself for everything that I've done in the past. I mean, I gave so many mixed signals and I feel like a horrible person for that and I'm sorry. That night we danced in the club, I just, I really didn't want our dance to end. I never thought that you'd be able to clear your name, and I just assumed that was that, but I didn't like it."
"So you're going to accept GJ's proposal?"
"As long as they don't throw in anything outrageous, I'll accept it in a heartbeat," Kim said with a warm smile. "I'm sorry I did so many stupid things, said so many stupid things. I just didn't know what to do. I'm bad enough at understanding when guys are flirting with me, and then when you did – you who used to be a villain – I was definitely thrown a curve ball." Kim stood up and took a seat beside Shego, looking down at her hands. "Before we had our last dance, we talked about us, about dating… and how it wouldn't work because you were a criminal. But I also know that I told you that I'd want to date you if I you weren't."
Shego said quietly, "I'm not anymore." She looked towards the redhead.
"I know."
"But you don't want to date me?" Shego asked slowly.
"Actually, I do. I want to date you, at least, I want to try," Kim replied, looking up at Shego as her face turned red.
Shego's mouth opened slightly as she stared at the redhead. Their conversation had been a little all over the place, and she was still trying to process things.
"So, you'll go on a date with me?" Shego asked carefully.
Kim looked down at the other woman's hand and linked their fingers together. "Yeah, I'd love to go on a date with you."
"Miss Possible, you understand that by singing this contract you'll have to watch over Shego every day for two weeks and give reports at the end of each day, and after that for three months you'll keep in contact with her at least once a day and at the end of the week send in another report?" Dr. Director asked carefully. "If there is any issue with sending the reports in on time we'll just need a notice the day of with the reasoning and things should be fine. Should it simply be that you forgot, as long as you can still write a good report with all the information needed the next morning, that will suffice – but do try to be prompt."
Kim nodded.
"This also means you'll have to live together the first two weeks."
That was news to both Kim and Shego who looked at each other and then at Betty.
The brunette didn't flinch under their gazes and waited until Kim finally said, "Good thing I have a guest bedroom."
Betty nodded and handed the redhead a pen, "Sign here. Your first paycheck will arrive at the end of the week. Just hand the paperwork to the agent waiting outside the door after you've made sure the contract is to your liking and then you're free to go. And Shego, I'll see you in my office after this."
"Alright, Thanks Bets." Shego flinched internally when she realized she used a nickname and Betty sent her a death glare as she left the room.
Kim had been rereading the terms, stopping when she heard what Shego said. "Did you… just call Dr. Director 'Bets'?"
Shego shrugged, "Yeah, I guess I did."
"I didn't know you were on familiar terms with someone who was supposed to be hunting you down," Kim said carefully.
"Betty and I go way back," Shego said as she leaned back in her chair. "Same college, I was an undergrad when she was a grad student. We were both in the mixed martial arts club. We were good friends. How else do you think I managed to convince someone to review my case? No way I could've grabbed a random agent and convinced them."
"Yeah, but even Dr. Director would need some convincing right? I mean she runs this organization, what could you possibly have told her that would make her sure you meant to turn good?"
Shego shrugged and said, "You should probably finish reading the contract and sign it."
Kim raised an eyebrow and put down the pen, "Shego, what exactly did you tell her?"
Shego groaned internally but pulled a smirk to the surface, "Oh, you know, that I may or may not have had a thing for a goody two shoes who really didn't want to date a criminal but might be willing to date me."
Kim squeaked, "You told her what?!"
"She's kinda sorta my second oldest best friend – Jean obviously being the first. We talk about these sorts of things. In fact, after we're done here I'm going to set her up on a date with someone in thanks."
Kim's stomach was still doing flips. "She doesn't care that she just assigned the person you're interested in as your supervisor for the next 3 months?"
"Well, she sees it as entertaining, the other members of GJ see it as smart planning. She's not losing an asset to watch over me, and they get intel that I have. Now then, sign that paper so we can head out sooner."
"So I have to wait for you to finish talking with Dr. Director after this? What should I wait in the car or something?"
Shego chuckled, "Yeah, here, the keys," she tossed them to the redhead. She'd driven the two of them to the headquarters, and that definitely confused a lot of agents. "I'll be as quick as possible, just blast the radio or something while you wait."
Kim grumbled, "Fine." She read through the last of the document and signed it. Then they handed it to the agent outside and Kim went to the car while Shego rode the elevator up to Betty's office.
Shego didn't knock when she arrived, just slipped into Betty's office and took a seat across from the woman. "Hey Bets, what's up?"
Betty finished looking over a document before turning her eye towards Shego. "I take it things are going well with you and Miss Possible?"
Shego grinned, "Yeah, me and Kimmie are planning to go on a date tomorrow to try things out."
The brunette smiled, "I'm glad. I wasn't sure if you were making up the fact that she liked your because you really wanted it to be true." Shego seemed offended at that. "But when the three of us were talking I could tell how conscious of you she was and that she most definitely was interested in you as well. So I guess it's a good thing this all worked out."
Shego chuckled, "Yep, and now it's time for me to make things work out for you."
Betty's grin faded, "No Shego, I told you I really don't need-"
The green skinned woman held up a hand to quiet Betty and pulled out her phone and scrolled through it. She found the number she was looking for and dialed.
"Shego, seriously, don't you dare set me up on a date."
"Hey, this is Shego. Yeah we met at the science convention last year. Remember, I was with the blue guy. Yeah, the one who acted like a child when he realized he didn't have the coolest robots in existence. I remember at one point we talked about our love lives, and I know your whole boyfriend situation. I actually have a friend here who I think you'd like. I promise that she's a cool person. She might be a little rigid at first, but just give her a drink or two and you'll be talking like you're best friends. Really? Tomorrow night then? Gimme a sec." Shego turned to Betty who had slammed her head onto her desk. "Hey, you free tomorrow night?"
"Shego I am very busy with work, please don't just hook me up with random strangers for your amusement."
"I take that as a yes." She put the phone back to her ear and said, "She's free tomorrow. How about the restaurant out of the 5 star hotel in Middleton. Yeah, yeah, that's the one. I always forget the name. But it's the only 5 star here so I know that it's a good way to describe it. Don't worry she'll be easy to spot. She has an eyepatch. Awesome, she'll see you tomorrow at 7pm then. I'll make the reservations now." Shego hung up and looked at Betty with a smug grin.
Betty groaned, "If I'm being forced on this date – seeing as how you didn't give me a chance to say anything to this person and I don't want to stand somebody up – can I at least know their name."
"Vivian."
"I meant her full name."
Shego sent out a text to one of her contacts. She was able to snag a table for two for Betty and Vivian. Shego then turned her attention back to Betty as she stood up. "If I tell you that you'll look into her. That is not how you should start a date. Trust me, I know what kind of person she is, and she is NOT a villain. Just go, enjoy yourself, get to know her, maybe it'll go well. I can't stay longer to convince you since Princess is waiting for me downstairs. Just go, you'll have fun, okay? Then call me after to tell me how it went – or the next day. I might not answer if I'm hanging out with Kimmie when your date ends."
Betty just sighed and waved her friend out. "Just go."
Shego grinned, "Bye Bets! Have fun tomorrow."
