The Inheritor of Two Worlds: The Wyvern Arrives Part XII
"Thisavros!" Diana was mortified at her son's greeting of the Olympian ruling goddess.
"I'm flattered, you gave me a marginally more polite greeting than you did Athena." The look that came over Diana's face was equal parts exasperation and disbelief.
"My apologies Hera, may I inquire as to what you are doing here?"
"It's good to know you can still be polite, even with cracked ribs young Wyvern." Hera moved forward and raised a glowing hand. "Allow me to heal you." CJ surprised her by taking a step back.
"The armor that Hephaestus forged is The Wyvern." behind him, Kara smiled at his words. "My name is Christian Jason Wayne."
"How appropriate, the name your mother gave you is of a great hero as well." She motioned Diana to stand. "I will heal young Christian, then return you to the Themyscirian Consulate."
As Hera moved to commence the offered healing CJ didn't move away, but, after a few seconds he asked,
"Lady Hera, why allow the attack on my family to take place?"
"There were some things that needed to be seen by certain 'interested' parties." Hera frowned as she spoke
"I see," he decided to let the issue rest for the time being. "then, would it be too much to ask if you could?"
"No Christian, it wouldn't." Hera smiled at him, pleased that CJ was reverting back to the hero he should be. Now, with his skill and valor proven, she planned to ensure he remained so.
Needless to say, the five heroes suddenly appearing in the cafeteria was a bit of a shock to Artemis and the other Amazons.
"Sweet," CJ spoke as he moved toward the smell of freshly prepared food. "Hera brought us right to the chow line. I'm starving."
"What in Tartarus just?" Diana cut Artemis off before she could finish her question.
"I'll tell you later, right now I need some food as well."
Ten minutes ago…
"Stand before me Wyvern." CJ was expecting to be back at the consulate, being on Olympus was rather unsettling. As he strode toward Hera he opted to keep his helm off.
"Though you are not an Amazon, you are the child of their princess." Sensing what was coming CJ dropped to one knee, he then felt five hands placed about his head and shoulders.
"You are the product of a bond of love and respect between two warriors, Diana of Themyscira and The Batman. Though you come from two separate worlds, you strive to protect them both." Hera's hand fell under his chin, bidding him to rise and look at her directly.
"Though patriarch's world will know you as The Wyvern." He felt warmth and pride emanating from the six goddesses.
"You will always remain Christian Jason Wayne, child of Diana, grandchild of Hippolyta… Son of Themyscira."
"You don't seem all that surprised about it." Diana commented after the lack of shock on Artemis's face after hearing the story.
"Why should I be?" Artemis glanced over at the table where CJ, Kara, Cassie, and Donna were eating and talking.
"After sparring with him, I know that he's your son." Seeing Diana's loving smile as she looked at her son, Artemis couldn't resist.
"Of course he is a male, you could have done better." Diana whirled around to face her. "I'm joking, you could have done far worse for your first born. I've no doubt that he'll be as blatant as his father is on bending the rules to ensure you're safe, your highness." Diana's eyes narrowed dangerously at the jab against Bruce and CJ.
"In Artemis's defense," Donna broke in sliding over to sit by her sister. "I have to agree, you're getting so good at the 'Bat Glare' it's scary."
"While you're here dear sister." Diana's hand clamped onto Donna's wrist. "You'll tell me all about this betting pool you set up." Artemis moved to leave, but, Diana froze her with another glare.
"Go ahead, say it." Kara turned to CJ, feigning innocence.
"I have no clue what you're talking about CJ." Kara just smiled sweetly as she continued to eat.
"You smiled when I spoke to Hera, prior to my being healed." CJ kept his gaze just below a glare.
"So what do you think your mother's doing that has them so scared?" She'd decided to change the subject.
"You know as well as I do that she's talking to theia Donna about the betting pool she started. You're dodging my question Kara." Kara moved closer to him as she looked into those ice blue eyes.
"I'm not dodging, I'm ignoring." she flashed a dazzling, yet mischievous smile as she continued.
"Not much fun when someone is that evasive, is it?" CJ had to clamp down on the urge to take the teasing further. Kara had visited the Manor often to talk to him and he couldn't deny that they had gotten very close.
"I don't think you could evade much at this distance Kara." She could smell the spices that had seasoned his meal, they were only a few inches apart.
"Perhaps we should stop this." It seemed like a contest of who would give in first.
"Why, don't you like me? I thought we were friends." She was moving slowly, teasingly closer to him when her Titans comm went off. Growling a few Kryptonian epitaphs she moved back from CJ and answered. "This had better be good Tim."
"We have trouble Kara, I need you to track down Cassie and meet me in the Gotham Harbor district."
"I'm here in the Themyscirian Consulate with Cassie and CJ." Kara half growled
"He's there?" Tim sounded relieved.
"I am, do you require assistance Red Robin?" CJ asked, slipping back into The Wyvern persona.
"We might, Reaver's involved."
"Prepare your team Red Robin, we will rondevouz with you shortly." Diana heard this, and when her eyes met CJ's she gave him a firm nod.
"Be safe thisavros." she whispered as her son went to the roof with Kara and Cassie, opting to allow Kara to carry him.
"Now I know how mother must have felt when I left Themyscira all those years ago."
"Yeah," Donna spoke up, wrapping an arm around Diana's shoulders and giving them a squeeze. "just imagine how much worse it'll be for her once she gets to know CJ." Diana prayed that her son would return to her safely from this fight. She knew Reaver would stop at nothing to destroy her treasure and vowed the she would destroy him if it meant protecting her son from any further harm.
As they landed on the rooftop Kara's mood was rather dour. "You have the worst timing Tim." she stated flatly.
"I wasn't aware I was interrupting anything Supergirl."
"Kara and I were having lunch." Tim covered his surprise well as he spun around in a low fighting stance.
"Now, kindly tell me what the situation is so that I may return to my meal." Before Tim could answer a pair of snickers came from Bart and Gar. As CJ slowly turned a scathing glare at them, the two Titans seemed very repentant of their outbursts. Kara placed a hand on CJ's shoulder,
"No maiming Wyvern." she joked. "I don't want to have to hear them whine."
"If you're done flirting Kara, we need to stop Reaver. He's building something in the bay." Both CJ and Kara turned to look at the bay.
"No, Reaver is not building, it is Mark 1. Reaver is most likely observing from another rooftop." CJ started to resume his scan when Kara tapped his shoulder.
"Ass-hat at four o'clock." As the others looked in the direction Kara was pointing Bart made the obvious observation.
"Okay, no one else has telescope eyes." he actually squinted and placed a hand around his eyes.
"He is two hundred twenty six meters away at a seven degree decline. The roof of that warehouse by the old car lot."
"How the hell did he?" Bart complained, but was cut off as CJ turned to Tim wearing a disappointed expression.
"I see you did not brief your team on my abilities. That may well be a hindrance in the coming fight Red Robin."
"I don't have all the numbers on your abilities Wyvern." Tim didn't need the chastising.
"Though they have never been completely mapped, they are comparable to, or, above my mother." CJ pointed out.
"Well, that'll come in handy, why don't we just let Kara, Cassie, and Wyvern go down there to have a chat with Reaver?"
"Because I will not risk the lives of my best friend, or my cousin Beast Boy." Before anyone could say anything further Red Robin laid out their plan for approaching the situation.
"We cannot assume that Reaver is alone. It would be prudent to think that he has made alliances to aid in his plans." When a few Titans looked to Tim he gave them a glare oddly similar to when an older brother sees his younger sibling discovering that fire is hot, after being warned beforehand.
As he made his way covertly towards Reaver and MARK 1 something was tugging at the back of his mind. "CJ, are you alright?" Kara's voice was barely audible, only his augmented hearing could pick it up. He nodded his head in response.
"So, did you mean what you said about me being your best friend?" He stopped, causing Kara to blush at how the question sounded.
As he turned she felt relief flood through her, he had a smile on his face. It was barely visible (just like his father) but, it was there. Deciding to go for broke Kara asked the one question that had been stuck in her mind.
"Seeing the memorial, were we… more than friends?" His face was unreadable as he moved into the shadows without answering. 'OK, guess I'll have to talk with him after this.' For some reason Kara felt a need to know the answer to that question, not just for herself, for Diana as well.
"Diana, is everything alright?" Bruce was surprised to see her in the cave.
"Tim called Kara, Reaver's in the Gotham Harbor District. CJ went with them."
"Alfred!"
"Yes Master Bruce?"
"Prep the med bay, if my son needs any help I want us prepared for anything."
"Bruce, maybe this will help." Diana revealed that she's brought a purple healing ray with her from the Embassy. Bruce's look of thanks spoke volumes to her as she moved to assist Alfred.
"I am very glad to have your help her Miss." Alfred smiled as he set out medical supplies.
"Thanks Alfred."
"Would there be a possibility of having one of those here on a more permanent basis?"
"Only I know how to operate it Alfred."
"That works our wonderfully Miss Diana."
"Ahh, the Titans, how quaint." Reaver seemed far too confident with how badly outnumbered he was.
"It looks like I'll be able to kill you again."
"Resist arrest Reaver, please." Kara looked like she was ready to tear Reaver's head off and throw it into the sun.
"I know what you did. You'll pay for that you bastard."
"Kara, if you only got to know me." Reaver sighed.
"Sadly, that will have to wait until-" Reaver's words were cut off as Wyvern's foot crashed into the small of his back with resounding force. As he landed in a heap Bart moved to follow, but, he found his way barred by a nearly immovable object.
"Wyvern, what the hell man?" The sound caught up a few seconds later as Wyvern tossed something towards him and walked towards the direction of the attacker. Bart caught the small object in his hands and was completely shocked. Wyvern had tossed him a still smoking .30 caliber bullet.
"Enjoy your entertainment Titans, I'll be on my way." Without a second glance Reaver strode away full of an arrogant swagger that made the rest of the team want to beat him into the ground with impunity.
"So, I gather a mercenary is always a mercenary. I should not be surprised that you have no honor. Those who sell their services to the highest bidder usually discard what they regard as a hindrance prior to taking on a contract."
"I got paid good money for this, but, seeing what you did Wyvern… I'd have done the job just to get this chance." The smile on his face as Wyvern turned to speak to them seemed troublesome to say the least.
"If you would be so kind as to go after and apprehend Reaver." Wyvern spoke up, "I will be more than happy to occupy the time of Deathstroke."
