To See Through Another's Eyes: The Wyvern Arrives Part XXIII
Bane was not able to mount any semblance of either attack, or defense. After The Wyvern had caught his punch, he shattered the bones in the captured hand. Before Bane could even scream Wyvern clamped his steel like grip onto Bane's wrist. He then slammed his fist halfway between Bane's wrist and elbow, used a rising elbow strike halfway up the upper arm, then a descending elbow strike to the shoulder. This series of moves broke Bane's hand, wrist, both bones in his forearm, the humerus, and had dislocated the shoulder.
Wyvern then wound his arm around Bane's shattered right arm and pulled the villain face first into the side of a metal shipping container. As Bane rebounded off the Fruehauf his left arm flailed out and was caught by the dark hero. Wyvern repeated the afore detailed process on Bane's left arm, then he dropped down and fired off several rapid punches with both hands. His legs now all but puzzle pieces, Bane fell forward, only to have a rising axe handle blow and an uppercut fracture several ribs, crack his sternum and turn his jaw almost to powder. His awkward landing on a steel I-beam that had fallen from a larger pile broke his pelvis.
"So, you broke Batman." Wyvern towered over the crippled villain, who was wishing he could black out from the excruciating pain he was in.
"I think I should return the favor." As he reached towards him, Bane began to tremble in stark terror as his mind saw an almost demonic dragon reaching out it's claws to claim his soul.
"WYVERN!" The voice was that last one that he wanted to hear.
"Greetings Batman, I was simply preparing to dispose of the refuse." A pain filled whimper was the only way for Bane to show his fear, his broken jaw hurt too much to try and talk.
"Leave him, the police are en route." As he turned he saw that his father had come alone, thankfully.
"Do you want to tell me what that was about?" Batman prompted his son as they stood atop one the buildings closest to the warehouse. CJ's eyes were on the ambulance as Bane was loaded onto it, several police officers could be seen in the distance, vomiting into the bay.
"I am ashamed to admit that my frustration from earlier events was allowed to color my actions." His gaze never left the ambulance until it drove off to the hospital.
"I could have killed him, I am sorry father." his voice was so different now, like he was the one in pain.
"Take the rest of the night off, you need rest and meditation." At his son's silent nod Batman reached a hand out, gently squeezing Wyvern's shoulder. Though the armor prevented him from feeling it, CJ still offered a small smile to his father to show that the gesture was appreciated.
Kara had recovered from her initial shock to J'onn's presence and had found her voice again.
"What do you mean understand what caused this?" she was not expecting him to be there.
"I was able to read your thoughts and emotions regarding your argument with Wyvern. I wish to show you some things I was able to find out about him." Kara didn't like the fact that J'onn had read her thoughts.
"So, you got these from Wyvern recently?" for some reason she couldn't understand her voice had a slight tremor in it.
"No, these were the only memories I was able to glimpse from his mind. I saw them the night I was here acting as security and observer for the League." Now she was confused, she'd heard that he could touch every mind on the planet at once if he so chose.
"Your confusion is understandable. Wyvern's mind is very different from any other human mind I've encountered. He can't have his mind read if he doesn't wish it."
"Like Batman, like son." Kara quipped.
"Not quite. Batman is able to shield his mind, but it can still be read by myself… on occasion. Wyvern's mind is vastly different." J'onn could see the question in Kara's eyes, even without his telepathy.
"Different how?" now he smiles, this was going better than he'd hoped.
"Wyvern is unable to be hypnotized, mentally controlled, or have his mind altered in any way. His own abilities combined with his maturation have made his mind something altogether different from any other human on the planet." As he approached Kara, preparing to share the memories from Wyvern he felt the need to forewarn her.
"This may feel a bit odd, from what I'm able to understand Wyvern's brain uses almost it's full capacity. He's able to process information at an incredible rate due to both hemispheres operating simultaneously."
As CJ made his way downstairs after a quick shower he decided to check on Bane's condition.
"Deus, check for the hospital records regarding the current condition of the criminal known as Bane." It took only a few seconds for the information to be displayed, and it was as bad as he'd feared.
Due to ligament damage sustained in their brief fight Bane would spend close to a year waiting for all the damage to heal, then another approximate two in therapy.
"This is just perfect… what the fuck is wrong with me?" he looked down at his hands almost expecting to see blood upon them.
"CJ, what happened with Bane?" Deus hadn't seen the results of his being this angry since he'd lost Kara.
"I wish I knew Deus, one moment Bane is bragging about crippling my father, the next moment I am standing over his broken body not remembering how I beat the living shit out of him." He started to move towards the garage.
"CJ, where're you going bro?" Deus didn't want to see him lose it again and possibly kill someone.
"I need to try and talk to Kara, then I plan to take my father's advice to rest and meditate. I'll be back soon." He decided to take his bike, he'd make better time on the short drive to Kara's apartment (well it would be short thanks to his reestablished teleportation web.) In short order he was pulling up to the public parking for the building that housed Kara's apartment.
Kara stood frozen as a myriad of emotions roiled inside of her.
"Rao, I never knew J'onn. How could someone survive this?" she whispered as tears began to flow down her face. She was experiencing her own emotions on top of the emotions felt by CJ as he watched her take a bullet for him, literally.
"That's why he took down the crystal… why he showed them the graves." Kara now realized that CJ had been trying to move past the events that happened before arriving here on the Prime Earth, he was trying to actually make a new life. J'onn's eyes shot towards the door, he'd sensed the presence of the one person Kara hoped to see and decided to take his leave.
CJ stood outside Kara's door and knocked. When the door opened slightly all his senses were on alert as he closed the door and began to move through the apartment without so much as a hint of sound. His hearing picked up Kara's crying in her bedroom and he wasted no time is dashing into the room.
"Kara, are you alright?" His eyes fell upon her, her eyes red and puffy from crying, the pain of the emotions she felt clearly etched upon her face. This sight caused CJ's own face to betray shock,
'Oh God, what've I done?' As Kara saw the look on his face she quickly turned away, seeing him was making it too hard for her to speak while she was trying to get her tears under control.
"Kara please, I never meant for you to be hurt like this." He started to take a step forward when he saw her shoulders shake with another sob. His heavy heart stopped his feet as he struggled to keep the pain from his voice.
"Kara, look at me please. I need to know that I haven't damaged us beyond redemption." Kara wanted to speak, she wanted to apologize, she wanted to say ANYTHING… but the lingering effects of the almost alien memories still overwhelmed her, she continued to cry.
'So I have succeeded in destroying that which was most dear.' His head drooped, seeming to try and disappear through the floor.
"I understand Kara… I will trouble you no longer." His heart now shattered a second time, CJ silently made his way out of the apartment.
His words caused her to start pushing the emotions down, she couldn't afford to let this misunderstanding go any further. In a few minutes she managed to stop her tears and get her breathing under control.
"CJ you haven't damaged anything." She turned and froze, he wasn't there!
"No, CJ!" she swept through the apartment at super speed, only to find that she was alone. Outside she heard a familiar bike engine speeding away and tried to go after him, but, her legs gave out. As Kara sank to the floor a new bout of sadness descended upon her as fresh tears fell from her eyes. She wanted to go after him and explain what had happened, but, her body wouldn't listen to her. Kara felt as broken and powerless as she recalled he had been from the memories J'onn had shown her.
CJ walked into the mansion on autopilot.
"CJ, how'd it go?" The OS didn't like what it was seeing, something was wrong.
"I have hurt her far worse than anything Reaver could accomplish." Deus was stunned at his words.
"That's bullshit and you know it CJ! You'd never do anything to hurt Kara, you love her too much!" The look of pain in CJ's eyes gave the OS pause.
"Yet I have hurt her, badly. I do not deserve to be cared for by someone as good as she. Nemuri nasai Deus." the command, spoken in Japanese, immediately put Deus into sleep mode as CJ made his way down to The Lair.
In short order he'd defied his father's wishes and had taken to Moon Dragon to the place that he'd encountered Reaver's battle platform. He ran a scan to see if there had been any teleport events from MARK 1 in the past few days, he found it odd that Reaver had been silent for so long.
"Perhaps I caused more damage than I initially estimated." Once the scan was complete and no anomalous reading were detected, he made his way back towards Gotham City. As he was approaching Bludhaven he noticed movement in his peripheral and altered his course. Setting the Moon Dragon into it's loiter mode, he made his way down to the rooftop ahead of the oncoming shadow and waited. In short order the form stopped, a bit in front of him, and smiled.
"Well, that should be another happy customer." her voice matched the smile on her face. She nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard a deep voice, devoid of any emotion, come from the shadows behind her.
"Hello Selina."
