Chapter 32
Annalise's POV
My smile widens as I study both hearing Embry's words over and over in my head. Then a blonde head comes to my view and I frown. "Who is ready to party?!" Princess screams as she grabs a beer bottle from the bucket. She sits on a log and smiles looking at us all. I try to ignore her. My eyes move back to Seth as he takes a hesitant step forward but Haylee takes a small step back.
Hale's eyes are still focused on Seth as I walk to her. "Hale's?" I ask gently. I, very slowly place myself in the middle.
"I…um…what…" she swallows and looks at me. "I have an urge to go and hug him," She whispers as low as she could, problem is that everybody heard. I hear few chuckles behind me. She leans in taking a glance behind me then looking at me. "More like attack him with my body,"
I bite my lip so I wouldn't burst out laughing. I feel the corner of my mouth twitch a little, "Um…." My voice shaky as I repress the laugh. "Why don't you go talk to him?"
Her expression changes from confused to worry in an instant. She immediately holds my hand. "No, I can't possibly-" She looks around with wide eyes. "-I can't do that,"
I frown as I chuckle. "And why not?"
"He's a guy," She says ever slowly.
I laugh at that. "I noticed," I smile.
She laughs nervously and licks her lips. "Ok, let me put it like this. The only guys I ever talked to was with Jessie, who I've known since diapers, and Gavin who I only see in lunch."
She's shy, "Look don't worry. I know Seth since-" I shrug, "-Pretty much since I was born, which means also in diapers if you didn't know," We laugh. "He is such a sweet guy." She shifts her weight taking it all in. "I'll introduce you," I offer.
"What? I mean, it's not at all necessary." She stretches her neck at the side to see him but then her eyes bounce back to mine like a safe heaven. "I don't live here, so what's the point of you know… talking,"
My eyes wonder off knowing that what she said was true. I look back at her. "So you're going to Canada with the guilt of thinking back a 'could've been' instead of taking a leap of faith?"
She swallows again. "If…If everything goes wrong I'll just go back to Canada and it's all forgotten, right?"
I nod, "Right,"
"Ok,"
"Alright," I smile encouraging her. I step next to her and gently guide her forward. I hear her heart beat faster with every step as I know he can hear it too. Embry is standing next to Seth with a bottle in his hand leaning into a tree. My eyes wonder over him, his body, the way his pants hang on his hips. He talks to Seth intently with Jake on the other side giving him advice. His chocolate eyes turn to me as we get closer and he gives me his cute shy smile making me swoon; I have to remind myself to breathe. "Hey guys," Haylee stays a step behind me but I tug her next to me. "This is my friend Haylee, we, um… met in Canada and she was really welcoming,"
She laughs, "Technically she saved me from these bullies like bad ass. They were so scared and left me alone because I was always with her. Anyways, then we started to talk. She is really smart but I mean having a picture perfect memory helps. You have picture perfect memory being half vampire right?" I look at her in surprise at the fact that she's talking, more like mumbling on as I nod. She really is nervous. "See, awesome. Then she and Jessie disappeared one day so I tracked Jessie's phone and here I am,"
No-one says anything I think its fear of laughing and making her feel bad; she's nervous enough to begin with. Seth stands folding his arms. I mean he might be a little slimmer then Embry and Jake but he's still huge; tall and muscle wise. I see Haylee's eyes move over him. He wears simple dark jeans and black tee that fits snug. "Lucky for me," he says. I take small steps away from her as Seth walks forward.
"I-don't –get-what-you-mean," she says in one breath.
Seth gives her a smile that I'm pretty sure it lit up her world. "Luck for me you're here,"
I smile like a weirdo seeing them both. I feel a giant hand over mine and that right there makes me smile more. I turn around as Embry signals me to walk away with his head. I look back at Haylee to see she's ok but seeing her smile I walk away with Embry. He wraps an arm around me and we walk in silence to the bonfire. The rest of the wolves are here with they're imprints, well them and Collin the one wolf that never liked me. I walk up to Leah and give her a hug.
"It's been a while," I say and sit next to her.
She looks different looking at me. "Ah, yeah it has."
"Are you ok?"
She gives me a small smile. "Not sure yet," She says before standing and walking to the shore line.
My brows crease. I feel Embry standing behind me. "What just happened?"
"It's Leah being Leah." He says and I sigh. Then I feel his arms at my waist lifting me up.
I squeal. "HEY!" I laugh as he runs. As we get farther I laugh harder. "Embry Call you better not drop me!"
He inhales. "You think I would do such a thing?" He then cradles me in his big, strong arms. "I will never let you go," He whispers next to my neck.
I look up at his eyes. "Good," I smile whispering.
"It's a bad idea to leave you both alone," Someone says.
Embry still looking at me laughs. His eyes dart to Paul who is smirking and standing with Rachel a few feet away. "Bad timing Paul," He groans.
"Not my fault you stopped here where me and Rachel were having a good time enjoying the piece and quite" Paul has a huge grin as Embry puts me down.
"Hey guys," I say feeling embarrassed.
Paul clears his throat. "So how do you think Haylee will react to the fact Seth's a wolf?"
My eyes widen a fraction, "I didn't think about it," My eyes snap towards Haylee who is still comfortably talking with Seth. "I have no idea,"
Embry runs his hand over my arm. "Seth will know when it's the best time,"
Embry's hand never leaves mine and I don't mind one bit when the four of us walk back to the bonfire. I mold perfectly next to him as his broad body sits at my side. Seth and Haylee sit next to each other, a few inches away, as we gather around to say funny stories. She holds the punch with both hands trying to calm down, I smile knowing that if she's destine to be with Seth she couldn't be in better hands. After a while my stomach hurts from all the laughing as Paul continues to tell the stories and jokes of the century. This had actually been the first time in years that I'd laugh like this and I love it.
I place my head on his chest feeling my eyelids get heavy. The wind gives warmth around us. The sun begins peeking through the horizon, it looks so peaceful. "Someone's sleepy," I smile feeling Embry's hot breath in my ear.
"Hmm," I don't even bother answering.
He chuckles. "C'mon, let's take you home."
I groan. "I don't want to leave," I whine.
He laughs, "But I want to live,"
I laugh and look at him. "I guess," I smile. "Just because I want you to live too," We laugh. Then I pout. "Are you going over the main house later?"
He smiles gorgeously. "Of course I am,"
"In that case," I stand and stretch. "Let's go," He laughs as he stands.
"Guys," We both turn. I see Seth in cloud nine as he holds a sleeping Haylee. "She kind of fell asleep here,"
"Are you sure you didn't just slip something in her drink?" Quill jokes making the rest of us laugh.
Seth throws him a glare. "I'll just carry her to the house,"
I nod, "Yeah, take her to my cottage. I don't think she will take it well if she knows she slept in a house full of vampires."
He nods and stands cradling her in his arms like she weighs nothing. "What do we do with her?" Quill points to princess who is lying in the sand asleep.
I shrug. "Ship her back to Canada," I suggest. Nessie nudges my arm giggling. "Ok, ok, just take her back to the cottage as well,"
The wolves ever the gentlemen accompany us to my cottage. Jake and Nessie take the path to her cottage. I can smell Momma and Daddy inside. I give Quill and Seth the permission to walk in and set both of them in my bed; I'm pretty sure they know where it is, I think. I turn back to Embry who has that serious expression. "Hey what's wrong?" My fingers pass over his cheek tenderly.
"I don't want to leave."
My eyes soften. "But you'll be back right?"
"As soon as my shift at the garage is over,"
"Well there you go." I circle my arms around his waist. "If it makes you feel better I'll think about you all the time,"
He gives me his mischievous grin. "It does make me feel better," He leans in as I move forward. My lips already burning to connect with his.
A very exaggerated throat clearing is heard behind me. Embry's eyes widen in horror as he looks behind me. "Mr. Cullen, how are you today?" He swallows.
Daddy has in eyebrow raised as his enormous body almost fills the whole entry to the cottage. He crosses his arms as his fingers move over his chin. "Glad you asked Embry. I feel a little ticked off that some boy was about to kiss my little girl and that I want to choke the air out of him. But besides that I'm doing well. What about you?" My eyes widen.
Embry swallows. "Actually I'm about to go to work,"
"Well you better get going before you're late," Daddy's has his poker face. I don't know what lecture I will have when Embry is gone.
"Right," Embry looks at me. He shoves his hands in his pockets. "See you later,"
"See ya'" I chuckle as he awkwardly walks backwards and eventually walks away. I look down and walk to the cottage. I refuse to look at Daddy's angry face. He steps aside let me through.
I turn around confused when I hear him laugh. "Was I scary?"
I nod. "Yes,"
"Good, I just wanted him to have a run for his money."
I squint my eyes. "Daddy, did you do that on purpose?"
"Yes," All of a sudden Momma walks up to Daddy and they high five. I'm just stand there confused. Once Daddy's done laughing he looks at me. "It's all part of being a dad, you get to have fun and I am. Now sleep in our room we'll just stay here in the living room,"
I'm still confused but I let it go. "Oh yeah, I hope you don't mine that I brought them here,"
"Not at all sweetie. Now you should rest up too," Momma smiles sweetly.
I nod yawning. "Yeah," They kiss my head and I stretch scratching my arm as I walk up the stairs.
I walk like a zombie to their room. I am so tired. I think the adrenalin of kissing Embry took my energy. I smile and some of the tiredness left my body thinking about Embry. I press my back on the door feeling giddy. "Oh gosh," I close my eyes, my fingers lingering over my lips feeling his soft lips. I bite it when I start to remember his hands leaving hot trails on my skin.
My eyes pop open remembering my parents are here. I'm just internally glad that Uncle Jasper isn't here or Uncle Edward; I would be grounded for life. I giggle as jump on the bed and hug the soft pillow. I get comfortable and I close my eyes.
Embry's POV
I barely slept feeling too awake after spending practically all night with her. I wipe the oil off my hands when my mind wonders to last night. My breath was literally knocked out of me as I saw her. She looked immensely beautiful. Her light brown hair glowing in the moonlight; her gray eyes tuning dark and her beautiful skin glowing against the burning light of the fire. I memorize when my eyes greedily moved through her body like if I was caressing her; her every curve. Her luscious long hair flowing smoothly in the nice warm air.
"Embry?!" My eyes snap towards Jakes. He throws me a cloth. "So you can-" He points to his chin. "-wipe the drool," I catch the cloth and throw it back at him. He laughs. "Pay back!"
"Shut up," I chuckle. "It's not like you're any different… Nessie," I wiggle my brows. "So how was the kiss?"
He points his finger, "None of your business," His face reddens.
"Why so shy? You don't kiss and tell?"
"I'm a gentleman," We laugh.
"Whatever makes you feel better," My head snaps towards the entrance where Seth is walking in with his hands shoved inside the pockets of his jeans.
"Hey,"
I stuff my cloth in the pocket of my worn out jeans and cross my arms. "What's wrong?"
"I've decided to tell Haylee today," He blurts out as he sits down. He sighs. "I have a feeling she's leaving soon and I'd rather tell her now so if she needs space to take it all in she has time before graduating from high school,"
"She's a senior?" Jake asks.
"No, a junior."
"Are you sure you want to? I mean she barely found out about vampires. Well I haven't asked Annie but when she was nervously mumbling she said something about half-Vampires." Telling someone about our secret is big, only few know and I know she has a right but I need to know he knows for sure.
He nods. "Yes, it's now or never," He seems lost in thoughts. "She's incredible. It was hard t keep my hands on me all the time we talked. She's smart, funny, beautiful…"
Jake walks up to him and past his back, "You have my permission as Alpha," He walks up to the car he's fixing. "As a friend and brother I'll be there for support,"
I playfully punch his arm. "As will I,"
Annalise's POV
I had to tip toe my way into my own room. I thought that after a long shower they'd be awake. Wrong. It's almost noon and they're still sleeping. I twirl around my walk-in closet in happiness seeing it all restocked with my size clothes. I squeeze into my black skinny jeans with a dressy white tank tucked in. I shrug on purple blazer. I sit on the round small couch to strap on my brown beiges. I make a messy bun and I'm done.
I walk out the closet to fine Haylee putting on her shoes. "Good morning… or I should say afternoon," I giggle as she smiles.
"I slept like a rock,"
"I noticed." She stands smoothing out the scrunched parts of her tank top. "Hale's can we talk about yesterday?"
She looks like a fish out of water. "Yeah…um…Can I first freshen up?"
"Of course, you can put anything in my closet. I'll wait for you outside." She gives me a timid nod before walking into my closet that leads to the bathroom.
I jump a little when Princess snores. I giggle and walk out. In full speed I make it downstairs. Momma hugs me then looks at my clothes. "You don't know how glad I am that you don't have the same taste in clothing like your Aunt Bella,"
Daddy laughs. In a second he is next to me kissing my temple. "You look beautiful,"
I feel like a little girl again, having Daddy around, making me feel better. "Thank you Daddy" I hug him. "Haylee will be down shortly. We're going to talk for a little bit outside," They nod but look a little confused. "Seth imprinted on her yesterday,"
"Oh," Is all Momma says. "She knows nothing about them, does she?"
I shake my head. "Not a clue."
I smile at them before walking out dragging my feet. I can't say anything because it's not my secret to tell but I really hope she doesn't freak. Also I know she needs to go back to her world but I have to make sure she won't say anything… I put her in danger befriending her and now I have to pay the price. I sit on the ground as my fingers move around in the grass.
"You wanted to talk?" Haylee plops next to me. I notice she has a gray hoodie and her red converse. Her glasses are back she still looks pretty. Her hear is not knotted, still falling loosely at the sides.
"Yeah…about Seth," I see her become nervous.
"Um…what about him?"
"I know you like him,"
She laughs proving my theory, she's really nervous. "What makes you say that?"
"Oh I don't know. The way you kept looking at him, the way you reacted to having him close, or the fact you were so comfortable near him that you feel asleep over his chest," She blushes. "Something similar happened with me and Embry,"
"Big guy two?"
I laugh. "Who is big guy two?"
"Well its huge one which I heard his name is Jake, then its big guy two Embry," I nod listening to all her little nicknames for them. "Then it's…ah… good looking guy number three,"
I let out the full belly laugh. "Well yes big guy two is Embry,"
"So you two are going out?"
That's a trick question; he hasn't really asked. We did declare each other's though "You can say that." I smile as she wiggles her eyebrows. "About Seth he's a really good guy. Or do you think I'd let you talk to him if I knew he was nothing but bad?"
She shakes her head. "I guess not,"
I sigh, "If he tells you something today I just want to keep in mind that…" I god, how do I explain this? "Well, keep in mind he's a good guy who will never hurt you,"
"Is he a vampire?"
"No,"
I see her breathe in relief. "That's a plus I guess,"
I chuckle. "Yeah…" A plus? Will she think the same when she finds out he's a wolf? "Like I was saying, if he did have a secret like that-not saying he does but if he did-"
"-I'd keep an open mind,"
I nod. "Exactly," I feel like it's going to rain but I change the weather fast in the morning. I don't want the weather to change the mood. "Let's go,"
"Where?"
"To see the guys," Is stand and look at the house. "Can I go?"
"Yes," Daddy says with a huff.
"That's awesome," Haylee says I giggle as I hook my arm in hers and we begin walking.
"Hale's when you go back you know you can't say anything. Like nothing at all,"
"About the vampire thing?" I nod. "Like anybody will believe me,"
"I'm serious. You're already in danger for knowing. It's my entire fault." I look straight ahead as we keep walking. "Juts promise to say nothing about it," I plead.
"Anna, calm down, I won't say anything." She crosses her heart then she imaginary zips her lips and throws the key off her shoulder. "Feel better,"
"A tad," I smirk.
"Now about Princess… Don't worry about her. Last time she got drunk she ran into the school screaming she saw aliens. It was a bush that had green paint over it, it was for a carnival or something, I can't remember. After that nobody believed anything she said." We laugh. "If the vampire word spills out I'll just tell everybody she's drunk or hungover and everybody will keep walking,"
I hug her on the side. "Do that," We laugh again.
I look ahead smelling wolves and a half-Vampire. I don't say anything as we keep walking in silence listening to the birds chirp. "Seth is going to do it," I hear Embry whisper so low that the ambient noise covered it but I heard it.
I look back at Haylee and I gently squeeze her arm. This might be the last time I see her. She can totally freak and won't want to see me, I would blame her. "Hale's, I was lucky to have met you in Canada,"
Haylee smiles and put her head on my shoulder. As we go around a huge three we stop at the site of Embry, Seth, Jake and Nessie. "Oh," Haylee says as her head snaps straight.
I only rub her arm. "Hey Haylee," Nessie hugs her and stands next to her.
"What's going on?" She looks at the three guys in front of her.
Seth's eyes momentarily leave her to look at me, I only nod. "Haylee I have to show you something," He gulps.
"Ok," Haylee frowns looking at us all. "Just tell me what's going," Seth nods slowly before walking behind a tree. "What is he doing?" She sounds so confused.
"Keep an open mind. You promised,"
Her hazel eyes dart to me. "What is it? you're scaring me," She whispers.
"Look," I say pointing to the light brown wolf trotting our way.
As her eyes leave mine I begin feeling dread; my heart racing, my hands sweating, my scalp prickling. I hold my breath as her eyes fall on him. The woods has gone silent.
A/N: OMG! OMG! OMG! How is she going to react?! stay in tune... Please tell me what you think!
