To the next chapter!

Annalise's POV

I was sitting in the couch watching Nessie and Uncle Edward play the piano together while Aunt Bella watches them with a smile. That was their favorite Daddy - Daughter bounding hobby to do. Aunt Alice and Uncle Jasper were sitting silently in the couch. Uncle Jasper did kept looking at me and I knew why. He felt the sadness that was threatening to consume me.

I didn't want to feel this way. Just this morning I was at the top of the world, Embry had a way to make me feel special but soon the problems that I had shoved behind my head had their way to always come back. And this time Embry was busy right now, and that made me feel sadder. As I stood Uncle Edward looked by way and his golden topaz turned sad.

I ignore the look and quickly made my way to Grandpa's study. I didn't want to know what he found out in my jumbled head. Like always, before I could knock he calls, "Come in, Annie."

I open and see him in his usual spot. Sitting behind his desk with a few papers scattered over his expensive handcrafted wooden desk. He smiles at me and places the papers down and lacing his fingers together. "What do I owe to this lovely surprise?"

I smile and sit in the chair directly in front of him. But then my smile fades and I clear my throat. "I'm worried."

He frowns lightly. "What are you worried about sweetie?"

"Have you heard anything about Axel?" I nibble on my bottom lip. "Grandpa I don't think you understand. He was there for me, in those horrible fou-" My voice wavers and I swallow thickly. "Those four years." I blink back tears and look at him straight in the eyes. "I need to know he's alright. Why is he taking so long?"

In a split second Grandpa was next to me wrapping his arm around me. "Honey, he's fine."

I sniffle. "Why aren't you not telling me what he's doing?"

He smiles comfortingly at me. "He is doing something important. That is all I can say. When he comes back he will explain everything, I promise."

I wipe away the stray tear. "Promise?"

Grandpa grins widely and sticks out his pinky and hooks it around my pinking taking me completely by surprise. "I promise."

I looked at our joined pinkies that almost made the waterworks to appear. "You remember." I whisper. This is something I always did when I was younger. It was probably a silly thing to think a promise could be sealed this way but just knowing he remembered something this small made my heart swell.

"Of course I do sweetie. It was something you did to make sure we kept our promises" He stands with that lovely wide smile and helps me up holding my hand. "And I never break a promise."

My brows crease. "What do you mean Grandpa?"

"Do you remember when you and Nessie wanted to do that marathon for that ridiculous show?"

My eyes spark at the memory. "Of course. The Vampire Diaries."

"That's the one." He chuckles. "I gave the both of you permission because I said I'd do anything for my granddaughters." He smiles brightly and his topaz eyes where filled with mirth. "You're little face had lit up and then you asked me-"

I gasp as that particular memory rushes into my mind. "I asked you that if you truly would do anything for us … Even cliff diving."

He laughs softly. "Yes. What do you think we do that?"

"Now?" I squeak.

He nods. "Yes. What do you say?"

"Yeah." I giggle. "That would be-"

I stop short when I whiff of familiar scents gets stronger the closer they get. My mood lifts instantly and a wide smile finds its way to my face. I let go of Grandpas hand and rush pass the door and down the stairs. I open the main door and fling myself at the body that was standing there about to open the door. My arms hug the body close.

"Jessie!"

"Hey Anna." He says.

I let go and beam up at him, staring at his deep red eyes. "What took you guys so long? I mean, how hard is it for you to die?" I joke. Deep down I wanted to know what had happened.

I was worried for him. After all he was leaving his whole life behind all because of me. The guilt was still weighing over me and I couldn't bare if he decided that he didn't want to talk to me anymore. I least I'd know I deserve it.

Momma walks around Jessie and embraces me in a loving hug, like she always does. I take my time, savoring the hug of a true mom. "Hi Momma."

"Hi baby. How are you?"

How was I? That was a hard question to answer. Cooping? But am I really?

I swallow and smile hoping that it looked convincing. "I'm fine."

I squeal and laugh when I'm swept up my feet. "I missed my Annie pie." Daddy chuckles and kisses my forehead.

I gasp. "Pie? I want pie."

He chuckles again and sets me on my feet. He looks at me raising an eyebrow. "That's all you have to say?"

I grin looking up at him. "I miss you too Daddy."

This I missed. The care free joking instead of a beating. But like always my mind seems to wonder into dangerous territory. I pinch my fingers together so they wouldn't see them shake. Taking deep breaths I keep my heart beating steady.

"Annie?"

I look up at Momma who was watching me carefully. I smiled again, this time having a harder time to mask it. "I'm fine. I'm happy you three are back." I held her smooth cold hand in mine. "Come on."

We all walked in, thankfully they didn't talk more about my weirdness back there. I wasn't ready to deal with it, not today. With vampire speed we were in the living room in a second everyone was exchanging their hellos. Jessie politely hugged Aunt Alice, Aunt Bella and Nessie and also hand shacked with my Uncles. Then just stood their awkwardly.

I frowned and walk to him taking his hand in mine. His head snapped down to look at out joined hands then his eyes bounce to mine. I know this is hard … I wish I could change time.

"Are you okay?" I ask softly.

His red eyes hold mine. "I have to tell you something-"

"Actually," Momma interrupts him and stands next to us. Her smile wide and invading. "We have to tell you something."

"Oh," I breath out in surprise as I look back at Jessie.

Jessie runs his face reminding me so much of that human he use to be. "Yeah," He sighs heavily and pauses.

I take his hand in mine again trying to make sure he knows I'm here for him. He Didn't say anything at first, just looking at me. The suspense was killing me.

I swallowed. "What is it?"

"I didn't die. I didn't fake my death."

Everyone except for Aunt Alice, Uncle Jasper, Nessie and Uncle Edward looked confused. Especially the way Daddy grinned and wrapped arm around Momma while patting Jessie's back. All of them looked … suspicious.

"What do you mean?" I questioned them three.

"We adopted Jessie." Momma beams holding Jessie's hand in hers.

The vampires all swarmed him and welcomed him with open arms. Grandpa and Grandma smiled in happiness while both standing by the arch way of the living room. Jessie looked odd because he was slightly fighting in nervousness but his face still passive, the actions were so foreign to a Vampire body. Its as if his human side was trying hard to make an appearance. I could just imagine how human Jessie would be right now.

My chest tighten as the wave of excitement started to travel through my veins. He was my brother now. Part of this loving family. He would never know how happy I was at the moment, to know I wont be losing him any time soon. But is he okay with this? I might be happy but he could feel miserable. No matter how excited I am he is still my friend and his feelings are important to me.

"Can I talk to you alone?" I ask him softly, keeping my voice steady.

There were things we needed to talk about.

Jessie's POV

Anna and I were walking human pace through the woods. She was looking at everything in the night like if the place was enchanting; my eyes were looking everywhere as well but to make sure there wasn't any danger. I would protect her with my life if I had to. Even if I'm her adoptive brother my feelings were there just a little hidden. Anna meant everything to me.

My body came to a sharp stop when Anna stop as well, looking ahead of her. Once I was sure nothing was there that could potential harm her I looked at her and patiently waited for her to say something. I couldn't help but see how amazingly beautiful she looked tonight. The moon light was hitting her perfectly making her soft brown hair looked bright and giving her skin a perfect glow. Yet I couldn't help see how her beautiful gray eyes were distant as if she was lost in memory.

"This is the spot Momma found me." She says softly. She had a small smile but with my enhance vision I say her eyes droop a tiny bit. She quickly wiped away a tear and try to appear unaffected. "And there." She pointed a little farther up, by a an old tree. "Is were my Momma gave birth to me." Her voice was so soft the whistle in the wind almost covered them.

"I still remember you know. When she gave birth to me."

I stared at the green patch and old tree that few years ago where witnesses to something amazing. I looked back at her to listen to her words. I didn't want to interrupt making sure I heard everything she had to say before I spoke.

She shook her head and wiped her face before facing me. "Mary was her name. The women that gave birth to me. My guardian angel. She suffered to her last breaths to make sure I was alright. It is something I will for ever be grateful for." She turn to look at the spot in the ground, watching distantly. "But what I am more grateful is that she lead me to my Momma Rosalie, my protector."

This time she looked at me in the eyes moving to stand right in front of me. She took my hand in hers and I notice that I couldn't really feel the temperature difference, we were almost the same. "Having Rosalie as a mother has been the best decision I could ever take."

I frowned as I kept my eyes locked with her big enchanting gray eyes. "Decision?"

"When Rosalie found me I belonged to nobody. But Rosalie had this resemblance to Mary that I immediately wanted her as my mother. Rosalie had always wanted a baby and instantly accepted me along with Daddy. Ultimately it was my decision. But the best decision I could ever take."

She flutters her eyes close for a second before opening them again and trapping me under her gaze. "Jessie I want you to know that no-one is forcing you. This is your decision as well. But if you choose to stay you will not regret it. Rosalie will give you all the love that-" She stops and holds back her sob. "All the love that you deserve."

She lets out a shaky breath. "I just … "

"Anna." I tug her hand lightly, as lightly as I could fearing I might hurt her. The action brought her teary eyes back to mine and I let out a smile to make her feel at ease. "I have already accept her. In the two days I was with them both they've showed me more love than my own mother could my whole life. You Don't understand how happy I am to be part of a family."

"But …" Her lip trembles and she sobs. "Is this how you wanted a family? As a vampire?"

"Hey," I coo and bring her softly towards me wrapping my arms her soft torso. She felt so fragile under my touch. "it's true I might not have gotten the family how a expected but u have a family nevertheless." I loosen my grip to look at her hesitant expression. "And I have you." I wipe her tears away gently and tender trying to savor this moment. "Along with Axel I promise to be the best brother."

The words stung and hurt to say but she didn't see me that way and I had too much respect for her. If she was happy I was happy. That's all the really mattered here. I cracked a smirk. "C'mon, you're telling me you want to pass a chance to have a buddy in crime?"

Finally I see her face brighten and her beautiful smile that always seems to trap me appears. "Buddy in crime?" She giggles making me smile wider. "I would love to me your buddy in crime."

"Good because we're going to prank our Uncles and Dad all the time now." I smirk wider and she laughs nodding in agreement. A feeling of warmth spread over me watching her laugh. That was my ultimate goal.

Suddenly she hugs me taking me by surprise. "Welcome to my family Jessie."

I smile warmly and hugged her in return. "Thank you Anna."

"Hey Jessie?" Anna cranes her neck to look up at me.

"Hmm." I hum in response.

"Did you see Axel over there?"

I pause to think everything through the past two days. I shake my head. "No I didn't. He's not back yet?"

Her face falls. "What is he doing?" She mumbles more to herself as she once again stares off in the distance.
