Annalise's POV
Everyone was still welcoming Jessie into the family. After our little heart to heart we had returned back and the small family celebration continues. I could tell Jessie felt a little uncomfortable with everything but still managed to smile and say a few thanks. The men were currently talking to him as the women, more Grandma, Momma, and Aunt Alice were plotting of ways to make Jessie shop with them. Since he was officially part of the family he had to suffer through like the rest of us.
Nessie was sitting behind me and playing with my hair as I sat on the floor. I relish the feeling of her soft fingers brushing my hair mindlessly as we occasionally giggled at Momma and Aunt Alice. They were really passionate about shopping. It was insane at times.
I should be happy; I know it. But I couldn't. I had this nagging feeling something bad was soon to happen but I didn't know what yet. Thinking back at all the occurrence and past actions everything happen too fast and too easy. I knew Richard. I had studied him the four years he had me kidnapped. Things were never too easy with him, he always had a plan. Even if his plan didn't involve him dying, I know he had something else.
He wanted me to get stronger. But for what?
Not only stronger but he wanted me to become a monster. To embrace my vampire nature as he put it so many times. I killed many people I had lost count. They could've been with their family right now but now the family was visiting them in a cemetery wondering who killed them.
I swallowed and blink the tears back. To make things worse Axel wasn't here nor Embry, the only ones that can truly understand; so I had to swallow the pain. i place a mask.
"Hey," I look up to see Jessie smile down at me. He then sits next to me shoulder bumping me. "What are you thinking of?"
"Stuff," I reply vaguely but seeing him just stare at me lets me know he wanted more information.
"You know Annie," Nessie says pretty much saving me from revealing me horrid thoughts to Jessie. Jessie's blood-red eyes shift towards her and he arches a brow. "She's probably day dreaming of The Vampire Diaries."
He chuckles along side me. "Oh Nessie." I look up at her as she smirks down at me. "You do know me." I laugh.
"Jessie." We all turn towards Daddy. "Ready to go hunting in family for the first time?"
My eyes widen a little and I feel the blood drain from my face. Hunting? I take deep breaths and I swallowed one last time before sighing and standing up abruptly causing my whole family to stop and look at me. I try to keep my heart beep normal, I'm trying so hard. Feeling a pang of guilt for ruining the mood and Jessie's welcome party and smiled at them, only briefly. If only I could just go hunting with them. I just .. can't. Not anymore.
"I'm tired. You guys can go hunting, I'm just going off to bed."
Momma was the face that caught my attention. She didn't looked confused nor worried more like she understood. She smiled softly at me and nodded. "Of course sweetie. Take the room upstairs. I'll stay here with Bella and the rest can go hunt."
"Alright. Goodnight."
I know there was more she wanted to say or perhaps ask but she chose not to. Instead she speed towards me and kissed my forehead. "Goodnight baby. Sleep well."
"Night, Momma." I whispered.
Jessie stands swiftly and pulls me in a hug. He lets go and smiles at me. "Are you sure you can't come hunting? It will be fun and it'll be my fist hunt as a Cullen."
I keep the guilt at bay and I keep the sadness in the back of my head as I shake my head. "I'm tired. I'd probably fall sleep before I make proper hunt." I joke lightly and they all chuckle.
"I'm tired too. Being Half-human and all," Nessie jokes and stands walking towards me.
I kiss Jessie cheek as does Nessie. Jessie only smiles at us but his eyes linger at me. It feels like eh wants to say more, probably convince me to go but he doesn't, respecting my decision.
"Goodnight!" She says before taking my hand and racing up the stairs.
Once inside the familiar old room of my parents Nessie closes the door and looks at me. "Annie-"
"Nessie," I sigh cutting her short. "I'm tired."
Nessie's soft hand takes mine and she squeezed it. "Okay."
We laid down facing each other. Nessie smiled at me and then began humming my favorite lullaby. Some of the weight began to lift from my chest and real fatigue started to take over. Something didn't feel right still, but I let it go as my eyes closed.
Embry's POV
It was night time now and I didn't like it one bit. I still wanted, needed to visit Annie but it was getting late and I had to finish the car I was working on because the owner was going to pick it up tomorrow. It was the only reason I wasn't running to go see my Annie.
Annie.
There isn't a moment where I don't think about her. Her big grey orbs with a hint of topaz. Her light brown hair that when the sun rays shine on the roots they turn blonde. Her beautiful smile and soft laugh. Her touch that drives me crazy. Her -
"Embry!" I blink and look at Jacob. He is signaling over at the car I was standing over and had this look in his eyes. "Focus." He said.
I frowned and looked down only to see black oil spilling everywhere, over my hands, clothes and floor. I cursed lightly under my breath before quickly fixing the problem. I looked at the messed briefly and sighed deeply.
"Sorry," I apologize. "I was-"
"Daydreaming?" Jake smirked. "I noticed."
I sighed and smiled. "I can't help it." I bit my lip as I wiped my hands. "She's incredible. Smart, beautiful, gentle … Annie has a way to always make me smile. Every time I see her I have to take a moment and realize she's mine; it's still incredible. It isn't just her captivating beauty but the way she is. She is one of the strongest person I know. After everything that happens she's still here, she survived through it, for me, for us. She might say I saved her but in reality she saved me … she's just my everything."
Jake had walked over to me while I ranted over my beautiful Annie. He patted my shoulder, "I get it. I absolutely get it." He sighed in content and had a far-away look. He cleared his throat and smiled. "So when are you going to I've her that?" he signaled with his head in the direction of the covered car.
I looked at it and it was a bitter-sweet feeling that began to stir inside me. The red Mustang. I had worked on it every single day, day and night. I was perfecting it to one day give to Annie when she turned sixteen. But the day she saw it was the day my whole world crumbled down. I couldn't even bare to look at the car in the beginning and I wanted to get rid of it. After a while I didn't even remember of it's existence because I was barely aware of my own. Until now.
"I don't know." I replied honestly. "I was-"
I stop my words when a unsettling feeling churned in my stomach. Jake stiffens and he frowns. My muscles contract as the both of us look over at the entrance of the garage. The wolf inside me was telling me something wasn't right, and when Seth walked in I immediately saw it. The both of us, Jake and I, broke out in a sprint towards him. I got there just in time to catch his fragile and sweaty body in my arms.
Jake looked down at him intensely letting me know it was the Alpha, not Jake. The Alpha's eyes surveying his pack member, studying him, almost making sure he wasn't injured. I knew he wasn't, I didn't smell blood and I couldn't feel anything broken. Yet Seth was trembling like if he was sick which is bizarre, we don't get sick. His lips looked pale like his face and his breathing was shallow.
The room was silent as we looked at him and Seth fought to keep conscious. My ears perked at a distant howl. The pack was feeling unsettled, they knew something was wrong with a pack member. I can hear in the distant paws hit the ground and howls as the wolves run to the garage. They gallop ready to attack whatever is endangering their pack member, their brother.
"Seth, breathe." I commanded in my Beta voice.
"Hay-Haylee," He trembled out. He licked his chapped lips and swallowed. "I need t-to find Haylee."
Haylee? What does she have to do with anything?
The Alpha kept studying him as I held onto Seth. The more he trembled the more I can feel the Bate making an appearance. The need to protect my friend and pack member was growing by the tenfold. But I had to keep compose and focus. If not I'd shift and tare Seth's body in the process. I couldn't risk it.
But my focus was harder to maintain as The Alpha furrow his brows and he stood from his crouch position. from the look in his intense dark eyes I knew he finally figured out what was happening. I wanted to yell at him and demand an explanation, but I knew better my Beta was always submissive to him.
"It's Haylee." The Alpha finally said through a strained voice. The Alpha looked at the rest of the wolves that had arrived at the entrance. "She's changing."
A/N: So how did I do? Should I keep writing?
