Haylee's POV

It wasn't from the searing pain I was in. Or the waves of horrifying burning I felt around my body. It was the look of genuine fear in my Father's eyes that told me something wasn't right. He looked petrified, I could see the sweat roll down his face as his lips moved rapidly like if he was trying to tell me something but I couldn't hear him. The only thing I could hear were my screams.

I looked at him in desperation to do something. But it looked like every time he touched me he would flinch as I was electrocuting him. His useless wife was glued to the wall as she looked over at me in complete fear. That fear … is one I felt too. It was when I found out my friend was a vampire. The fear of the unknown.

I was the unknown now. They had no clue what was wrong. Neither did I.

I squeezed my eyes shut and breathed through my nose to try and control the pain but another wave would hit me and a scream would curl form my throat and out my mouth. My body trembled and my skin felt hot. I whimpered and scream every time my body moved involuntary. I couldn't control anything. I felt like I was being engulfed in flames, like if the fire was consuming my flesh and there was nothing I could to stop.

Nothing.

Suddenly the screams stopped along with the agony and my eyes shot open. Breathing hard I sat up as my father scurried away in fear yet I saw a glint of worry in his green eyes. Looking around I realize I was in the middle of my living room on the floor, it was dark out as a small sliver of light from the moon shown through the curtains. The light from street lamps reflected perfectly for me to see the terror in their eyes. And their still bodies, not daring to move an inch.

"Dad," I trembled out. "Dad, what's going on?"

He looked at me in alarm and blinked. He chose to stay quite, instead continued to look at me like if I was some strange animal, a wild animal that is ready to attack him. I hissed when I tried to move, everything still hurt. Everything still pulsated, like if the pain just dulled a little but was hiding beneath.

"What's happening?" I questioned again. Trying to find answers quickly. As if the answer were the remedy that will take the pain away forever.

I got my knees before placing my palms flat on the floor to aid me but then I felt it. It was the pain only a thousand times worse. I fell on the ground as my father and his wife jumped and then bolted out the room. With my cheek pressed on the marbled floor I saw them rush to get the keys then just left, just like that.

"DAD!" I screamed for him as I felt like my back was breaking. "COME BACK!"

"AHHH!"

I screamed again but this time out of distress and fear. It felt like the flesh of my back was splitting open and it was a pain so instance I couldn't speak anymore. It was all excruciating. There was pain everywhere. I began to see dots in my vision and I was slowly losing consciousness. Then I heard a voice.

You're not alone Haylee. He said.

Embry's POV

The silence was palpable. The only thing that was heard was our controlled strong breathing and the ground shaking every time our paws would land on it. We were still within La Push land.

Leading the way was Seth who was following his mate's call. I could feel how weak he really was but he kept pushing all to be next to his mate. I could feel the sheer desperation he was feeling, I once had felt it. I can also see the fear through his eyes. Non of us knew what was really happening. All the Alpha knew was that she was changing. But to what exactly? That very questions was in a constant loop in Seth's head. We all feared the worst but try to hide it from him. She needed him and he was on his way, that's all that mattered. There is nothing a wolf wouldn't do for his imprint. We all knew that.

All of a sudden Seth stopped running. He whimpered in pain and we shifted uncomfortably. After all we felt a small part of his pain. I dug my paws into the ground to stop the speed I was going on. We all looked at him and the Alpha approached him. The Alpha looked at him before turning to scan the area.

We all stayed quite. The Beta in me was in high alert, ready fro any attack. All of our heads snapped to the direction of a strange smell. I couldn't quite put it my finger on it. It was slightly familiar but .. Different.

Seth bolted towards the smell before we could say anything.

Seth, what is it? Paul asked.

Seth! Stop running! Lea pleaded.

Seth, I warned.

The Alpha didn't say a word as he sped faster to be slightly in front of Seth. I ran after them, passing through the green growth and bushes. Then I stopped. In front of us where the Eagles. Their wings spread wide apart as if they were protecting something. The grand brown feathers each lined perfectly expanded covering mostly all the forest behind them.

"Leave, wolves. This doesn't concern you." The leader, Nakoma, spoke.

The Alpha growled and shifted back. His brows were creased dangerously in the middle as he glared at Nakoma. His demeanor calm yet his eyes and voice said otherwise.

"You have no business here. Our business is done. Yet you come to my lands and demand." The Alpha gritted out.

Nakoma keeps calm. "We did not come to disrespect you Alpha Jacob."

Seth began to whimper and tried to make an advance towards them but one of the Eagles bared his talons in Seth's direction. The Alpha, without leaving Nakoma's eyes he signaled Seth to stay put. I slowly walked towards Seth and lowly growled at the Eagle.

"What do you call that?" The Alpha growled as he pointed at the Eagle that was challenging Seth. "If not disrespect."

Nakoma said nothing at first continuing to challenge Jacob in a way. Then his eyes shifted to Seth. "It is your fault she's in pain."

Seth looked down and began to whimper louder. I growled menacingly at him before I shifted.

"What are you talking about?" I snapped.

"Embry, calm." Jacob said as he angled his body to be in front of us. Sort of like he was protecting us from them.

Nakoma looked at me long and hard before he began to move. Each step careful and skilled. His long wings beginning to contract and trial behind him. Each of the other four Eagles followed, all moving to the side. That's when I saw her, Haylee. She laid on the forest ground, naked, curved into a ball as she shivered. Her skin covered in a sheen of sweat. Her eyes screwed shut as if she was holding back a scream.

Seth shifted in an instant pulling his sweats on quickly and ran towards her only, his arms extended ready to scoop her in his arms; only to be stopped my Nakoma who stepped in his way. "You cannot touched her. Her skin can burn you."

Seth hardened his gaze as he looked at Nakoma. "She's my mate."

Nakoma nodded. "I know. It is why she's in half-shift."

The Alpha stood next to Seth, placing a hand over his shoulder. "Half-shift?"

Nakoma's dark eyes landed on my Alpha as he nodded once. "Haylee is an Eagle. She is descendent of my tribe. A strong breed." He spoke softly yet firm. "Only that she can't fully shift."

Seth's chest was moving harshly as he looked between Haylee and Nakoma. "Why can't she shift?'

"It hasn't happened before. In nature law two different breeds can't be mates." He sighed. "Meaning she has to refuse her shift and remain human or shift to become full Eagle and break the mate bond."

I felt numb as I looked over at Seth who's blood had drained completely from his face. He was now fully looking down at Haylee. What surprised me was that Haylee was looking at him, her eyes filled with pain and agony but she manage to give him a small smile.

"Nakoma." She hissed out as she moved a little. Her arms wrapping tighter around her own frame. "I-I said no. I want to stay-" She took a deep breath, "-human"

"Haylee." He warned. His eyes focusing on anything. "We can help you. Denying the process will be painful." he said and turn to look at her. "It will feel like a part of you is being ripped apart. If you decide to be an Eagle you both wont feel a thing. It's as if you weren't mates to begin with."

She shook her head but stopped groan in pain. She took deep breaths in and out before opening her eyes and looking at him. "I don't care. I-I want-Seth."

"No."

We all turn to look at Seth who shook his head. He had a sad look in his eyes and his mouth pressed in a thin line. Then he looked at Haylee. "Shift." He said, as if he was commanding her.

"N-No Seth." She shook her head her eyes turning glossy. "I can take it. I p-promise I can."

"Alpha." Seth called catching all of our attention. "May I have a moment alone with her?"

Alpha nodded and looked at Nakoma. Nakoma looked at Seth and nodded.

We all began walking, not before Nakoma took Seth's arm, the wolves and I stood in alert and we growled. Nakoma ignored and whispered to Seth. "She's in a lot of pain. Make it quick."

Seth yanked his arm away as we all began to walk away.

Seth's POV

I wanted to run and hug her. I wanted her to be safe in my arms. I wanted to be the one to take her pain way but as cruel as life is it turns out I'm the reason why she's in pain.

Her body trembled and her skin glisten with sweat. Her face was contoured in pain but she was still beautiful. She is so beautiful. Even with her gorgeous hazel eyes filled with agony they still manage to trap me.

I inched closer to her and when I was finally in front of her I kneeled to be closer to her level. I can hear her heart beating widely in her chest, her labor breathing was braking my heart. I need her safe. I needed her happy.

"Seth. W-why are y-you looking at m-me?" She shivered out.

I smiled softly at her as I moved a piece of her honey toned hair away for hair face. I ignored the burning sensation my fingers felt as soon as I touched her burning flesh. Her lips still looked pretty and pink, her eyelashes that framed her hazel doe eyes to perfection. What I wouldn't give to hold her. Only if it was for a little while. If only.

"I'm trying to memorize every single detail I can about you," I replied softly, swallowing the pain my soul was feeling.

"Seth-" She began to sob. "Please. I-I can d-do this." Her body trembled more.

"Hey," I cooed petting her hair. "Clam down beautiful. I need you to clam down."

"How am I suppose to c-calm down!" She growled but then whimpered loudly in complete hurt. "You don't want t-to fight for us."

"I'm doing this for you. You might not understand but the love I have for you is what made me decide, fro the both of us. Being an Eagle is who you are Haylee. I wont stop that."

"No. Seth. I-I-" She stopped and gasped braking my heart even more. "Don't do this."

I closed my eyes trying to will the tears away. Following her scent I leaned down and pressed my lips to hers, trying to savor her. Trying to brand this into my memory for me to cherish forever. I can hear the sizzle of my our burning flesh.

I leaned back and took a deep breath. "Nakoma now."

"What? No!" She screamed.

I moved away hesitantly as I saw the Eagles flash by me and towards her. I looked ahead to avoid her, her screams for me to listen. When, from the corner of my eye, I saw Nakoma hold Haylee up I bowed my head.

It's for the best. It's for the best. it's for the best. I chanted in my head.

"Seth I love you! I love you!"

It's for the best.

Her voice, her screams soon faded into the forest and that when I let it all out. I fell on my knees burring my head in my hands. I scream ripped form my mouth in pure hurt. Part of me felt like if I was dying but it's all for her. I would do anything for her.

"Seth," I hear Embry called me softly.

"It's for her best." I sobbed out.

A/N: So? I swear more is coming. Just bare with me. This is not the end. Or maybe it is.

All the love
