Luigi ran as fast as he could, the mirror monster version of his brother hot on his heels.
"HEEEELP!" Luigi screamed. He could hear the mirror monster's laughter behind him. Luigi then spotted something in the distance in front of him. Shining his light on it, Luigi's face lit up in joy. It was Tanice. She was mopping the floor. Running up to her, he came to a stop right behind her.
"Tanice!" Luigi shouted in panic. "Oh thank goodness I-a found you! I need-a your help! There's this monster, and-"
"I obey only Revolta." Tanice said to him before turning back to her mopping. Luigi's face dropped at this.
"Revol-who?" He asked in despair. Any further conversation was canceled by the sound of growling behind Luigi, who remembered the mirror monster behind him.
"Now I've got you!" The mirror monster said. He then skidded to a halt. "I've got-" The mirror monster stopped mid-sentence, gaining an expression of confusion at what he saw. Expecting to see Luigi, the mirror monster instead saw two mummies mopping the floor. One was Tanice, but the other was significantly taller than her. The new mummie's bandages also seemed to have large parts where they didn't cover the body, revealing a green sleeve and part of a blue pant leg, and a green hat. Tanice walked off to mop elsewhere, leaving the larger mummy. Confused, the mirror monster walked up to the larger mummy.
"Hey," the mirror monster said, getting the mummy's attention. "Did a tall thin crybaby in green go by here a minute ago?"
"Crybaby?" The mummy asked in confusion, before something clicked in him. "Uhh, yeah." He said, pointing down the hall. "That way."
"Thanks." The mirror monster said, running down the hall.
"Hey, how about that?" The mummy replied. "It-a worked." He chuckled as he went back to mopping. As he mopped, he walked backwards down the hall. Not seeing where he was going, the mummy bumped back-to-back with the mirror monster. Both mummy and mirror monster turned around to look at each other. The mirror monster had an evil and knowing smile on his face, knowing now that the mummy was Luigi in disguise. The mirror monster growled.
"You can't trick the mirror monster." He said. He then raised his arms and growled at Luigi.
"YIPE!" Luigi cried, turning to run. As he did, he saw the bucket. Thinking fast, as he ran by, he picked the bucket up and chucked it upwards. It flew through the air and landed on the mirror monster's head. The mirror monster stopped chasing Luigi and growled angrily as it tried to pull the bucket off his head. Luigi, however, kept running.
"MARIO! PROFESSOR! ANYONE! HEEEEEELP!" Luigi shouted as he ran. From their location, Toad and Professor E. Gadd hears his cry.
"That sounded like Luigi!" Toad said in surprise.
"Indeed." The Professor replied. "And It sounds like he's in trouble."
"Then we'd better go help him." Toad said, then turned towards where they came from. Toad and the Professor ran down the stairs to the foyer, then down the hallway Mario and Luigi went down earlier. Meanwhile, from their location, Matches and Booigi heard it too. Knowing what it meant, they conversed in their languages before deciding to follow it. They returned to the foyer from where they were sent, and ran down the hall Mario and Luigi went down. In their haste, none of them noticed Mario trapped in the mirror.
"Toad! Professor! Matches! Booigi!" Mario shouted, banging on the glass, trying to get their attention. "Mama Mia! I've-a spent lots of time in front of a mirror, but never-a this much time behind one."
Meanwhile, the Mario mirror monster was still trying to get the bucket off his head. He growled furiously as he wrestled with it. Soon enough, the four who heard Luigi's cry arrived, seeing who they believed to be Mario with a bucket on his head.
"Mario!" Toad shouted, stopping in front of him. Professor E. Gadd walked up behind Toad, looking up at the monster, his right index finger next to his mouth.
"Oh my." Professor E. Gadd said. "That bucket seems to be stuck." Matches and Booigi, meanwhile, turned to each other to converse. Toad, however, got a look of determination on his face.
"Not if I can help it!" He said. He then marched up to the monster, and leapt up to the bucket. He grabbed it, and started pulling on it with all of his might. "Don't worry, Mario." Toad said, pulling as hard as he could. "I'll help you get this bucket off." It took some time, but soon enough, the bucket popped off of "Mario's" head. However, all four were soon treated to an unpleasant surprise as the Mirror Monster grabbed Toad in his hands.
"Thank you!" The mirror monster snarled at Toad, who was terrified at the sight before him.
"Y-y-y-you're not Mario!" Toad said in fear. Immediately he put the bucket right back on the monster's head. However, the monster only shook his head for the bucket to come back off. What the monster didn't see, however, was the bucket landing on Matches' head. Matches simply took the bucket off and looked up at the mirror monster, snarling angrily. Toad, had the vacuum head of his Poltergust 3000 out and was aiming it right at the monster's face.
"I-I-I'm warning you, you Mario clone." Toad said, his voice shaking in fear. "Y-you'd better put me down now, or you're Poltergust 3000 fodder." Professor E. Gadd had the vacuum of his own Poltergust 3000 out as well, aimed right at the mirror monster.
"Don't think I won't do it as well!" The Professor said, an air of warning in his voice. The mirror monster only snarled.
"You two don't scare me." It said. While all this went on, Matches had taken a deep breath and turned red. Right then, he spewed forth a flame right at the mirror monster. The mirror monster growled in fright and pain. In its surprise, it dropped Toad. The mirror monster did the first thing that came to mind, run to safety, running back down the hall it came from. As it did, Matches let out another breath of flame, catching the mirror monster right on his bottom.
"Aah! Aah!" The mirror monster shouted in fear. "I'm going! I'm going!" It turned around a corner and disappeared. Everyone watched him run off. Toad let out a sigh of relief from where he sat and turned to look at Matches.
"Thanks, Matches." He said with gratitude. "I don't know what would have happened if you hadn't shown up when you did."
"I concur." Professor E. Gadd chimed in. Booigi cackled in his Boo language about his thoughts. Matches beamed with pride, arms crossed in front of his chest, growling proudly.
"Anyway." The professor spoke up. "Right now, our priority should be locating the real Mario, and seeing where Luigi got to." Everyone nodded and set off to search. Meanwhile, the mirror monster had managed to put the fires burning him out, and had made it back to the mirror it trapped Mario in.
"Oooh." The mirror monster moaned. "It's too dangerous out here." The monster then leaped back into the mirror, kicking Mario out.
"Well, it's about-a time." Mario said indignantly, getting up. He brought out the flashlight on his Poltergust 3000 and set off down the hall where he saw the other go. Meanwhile, Luigi, still disguised as a mummy, and still holding a mop, was sneaking down a hallway, his back up against one of the walls. He looked in the direction he came from, and saw an ominous-looking shadow against the wall, alerting him that something was coming.
"Oh no." Luigi said nervously. He didn't see the mop he was holding knock a wall-mounted candle lamp, turning it upside-down. He did, however, notice the wall he was hiding against spinning around, taking him with it.
"Luigi?" Toad's voice asked, coming into the hallway with the Professor, Booigi, and Matches. His shadow was the ominous one Luigi saw. They all looked around the hallway Luigi was just in.
"Huh," Toad said, scratching his head. "I could have sworn I heard his voice in here."
"Well, Toad." Professor E. Gadd said. "If you heard his voice, then he mustn't be far away." Meanwhile, Luigi found himself staring right at Revolta and the Grim Creeper. Revolta was standing behind a cauldron, holding four long sticks, each one submerged in the cauldron.
"What are you doing in here!?" Revolta asked angrily. Luigi shook nervously, trying to think of a response.
"Um, uh." He said, shaking.
"Are you through mopping the corridors?" Revolta asked. Luigi blinked, confused, before looking at his mop. He then looked back and nodded.
"Yes, Revolta." Luigi said, making his voice high until he sounded convincingly-female.
"Then start over there." Revolta said, pointing to her left.
"Yes, Revolta." Luigi said. "I obey only Revolta." Luigi turned and went to where Revolta pointed. The still-wet head of his mop hit the Grim Creeper, leaving the top of his head wet. The Creeper spat out as much of the water as he could.
"There's something funny about that mummy!" He said, pointing at Luigi.
"Stop dawdling, Creeper!" Revolta chastised. "Midnight approaches, and this potion must be ready." She then began ordering the Grim Creeper to retrieve ingredients for her potion.
"Deadly Nightshade." She said, holding out her hand.
"Deadly Nightshade." The Grim Creeper replied, handing her a purple bottle. Revolta opened the bottle, and poured its contents into her potion, causing a large amount of green smoke to poof out of the cauldron. Revolta then dropped the bottle inside it, creating another green cloud.
"Powdered Newt." Revolta said.
"Powdered Newt." The Grim Creeper echoed, handing her a red shaker. Revolta shook some into the cauldron.
"Oil of wolf bane." Revolta said.
"Oil of wolf bane." The Grim Creeper parroted, handing her the ingredient. Luigi meanwhile, walked around the rack where the ingredients were kept. He didn't notice the hose of his Poltergust 3000 sticking out from behind it.
"Slimy salamander tails." Revolta said.
"Slimy salamander tails." The Grim Creeper replied, reaching for what looked like the ingredient Revolta asked for. He grabbed it, and pulled Luigi out from behind the rack by the Poltergust 3000's hose. The Grim Creeper held Luigi off the ground by the hose.
"I knew this was no mummy!" The Grim Creeper said. He grabbed one of the bandages covering Luigi and pulled on it, spinning Luigi as his bandages came off. Once the last of the bandages hit the ground, Luigi stopped spinning, allowing Revolta and The Grim Creeper to get a good look at him.
"It's that gym teacher of the Grimwoods'!" The Grim Creeper said in realization. Revolta leaned in.
"He's too cowardly to have come alone." Revolta replied. Luigi looked at her.
"Y-you can-a certainly count on that." He said, voice shaking. Revoltsa pointed to her right with two arms.
"Dispose of him, and any of his friends, Creeper." She ordered.
"Yes, Revolta!" The Grim Creeper said eagerly. He dragged Luigi across the room and through a secret entrance in the wall, which closed after the two of them.
