I love you guys. I'm so sorry for the ridiculous wait. I'm not too happy with this chapter and it's much shorter than normal but at least it's an update right? I hate when people update with just an author's note so I have avoided that, I haven't been ignoring my reviews! I also have a Paily fic swirling in my brain that I may write at some point. Hopefully life will stop getting in the way!

Dani POV

I didn't sleep much; I spent most of the night thinking about what Kayla and what she has gone through. I went worst case scenario way too many times in my head that eventually I had to force myself to stop thinking about it and wait until she was ready to talk.

When I head out of my bedroom, I see her already up and sitting on the couch.

"Good morning, how'd you sleep?" I greet her.

"Hey. Okay, thanks."

"So since I don't have a lot of food, I thought maybe we could go out and eat?"

"Uh, I don't really have any money." She says shyly

"I'm sure I can manage to feed you" I smile at her and she nods.

Just then my phone starts ringing and Kayla's face turns panicked. It's only Santana, so I shake my head with a smile, trying to ease her worries.

"Hello?"

"Good morning my love" She starts

"Morning" I say, stifling a yawn.

"How'd you sleep baby?"

"Not that great. Nothing some coffee can't fix."

"I missed you. I was actually calling to see if you wanted to come over for breakfast?"

"Me too. Uhm.. I'm not sure? We were just discussing going out."

"Okay well why don't you chat with Kayla and then text me and tell me what you're going to do?"

"Okay, I'll let you know. We only just woke up so we still need to shower and stuff."

"All good, B is still sleeping, surprisingly, so there's no rush."

"Okay I'll text you soon."

"Mmkay, love you!"

"Love you too. Bye" I hang up the phone and turn to see Kayla pretending not to have been listening.

"So that was Santana, my girlfriend. She asked if we wanted to go over there for breakfast, she just lives a few doors down. It would save us some run ins with the paparazzi" I say, remembering for the first time that it's probably not a good idea for me to take her out.

She looks at me like she hasn't even considered that, or the fact that I'm famous.

She shrugs and agrees to breakfast at Santana's so I quickly send her a text saying we'll be there in about half an hour.

"Do you want to borrow some clothes?" I ask.

"No I'm good. " She says before walking off to the spare bedroom.

We arrive at Santana's about 40 minutes later, Bailey launching himself at me after Santana lets us in.

"Den! I missed you" He says, clinging to me before realising there's someone else present and shyly burying his head in to my neck.

"Who's that?" he muffles against my shoulder, glancing at Kayla.

"That is my cousin Kayla, Kayla this is Santana" I introduce my girlfriend first who says Hi right away.

"And this little man here is Bailey. You wanna say hi kiddo?" I prompt Bailey.

He just waves shyly but Kayla doesn't really respond to either of them and it becomes slightly awkward.

Santana notices this and decides to just jump right in.

"So, why don't we head to the kitchen? I've made a variety of different things as I didn't know what you would prefer, Kayla."

I carry Bailey with me to the kitchen and usher Kayla in the right direction, Santana passing me a cup of coffee as soon as I sit down.

"Thank you." I grin at her.

"Dig in everyone" Santana says, trying to break some of the tension.

We all start to eat in silence, even Bailey, which is unusual but I guess even he can tell things are a bit weird.

"Are you working today?" I ask Santana, noticing she isn't dressed for work.

"No, I've taken the day off." She eyes Kayla subtly letting me know why she took the day off. She is the cutest.

"Oh"

"What are you guys up to today?" She asks casually.

"Uhm. We haven't really discussed it yet." I respond, noticing Kayla shift uncomfortably in her seat.

We all go back to eating in silence. I can't remember a time where I felt this awkward.

"Maybe we can go get you some clothes, Kayla?"

"Why?" She responds bitterly. Where did that come from?

"Uh.. I just thought.. I didn't know how much you brought with you"

"It's not like I'm going to be staying" She states

"We don't know what's going to happen, we need to discuss it." I say, putting my hand over hers on the table.

She waves my hand off hers

"You can get back to your fucking perfect dyke life soon enough" I'm stunned in to silence

"Hey! Dani has gone out of her way for you and I won't tolerate that kind of language in my house!" Santana snaps furiously.

"Good, I was leaving anyway." She stands up and storms out the front door, slamming it behind her.

"Jesus Santana, what were you thinking?" I yell turning towards her.

"What?" She asks, clearly shocked at my tone.

"I can't believe you even have to ask." I say standing and grabbing my bag.

"Where are you going?" She asks.

"Where do you think?" I say and walk out after Kayla.

Luckily for me, she is sitting outside my front door when I get there. She looks like a little ball of anger.

"You didn't get very far." I say to her, making her look up.

"I need to get my bag"

"Will you come in and talk with me first, then if you still want to go, I will give you enough money to get wherever you're going." She looks up hesitantly.

"I don't need your money"

"I know, but it would make me feel better."

"Okay" She shrugs and stands up.

We both head inside and sit on the couch. I know that if I want her to talk, I'm going to have to ask the questions.

"So.. "

"So.."

"Why New York?" She clearly wasn't expecting that to be my first question.

"I thought it would be easy to get lost."

"Why do you want to get lost?"

"Why not?" She shrugs.

"That's not really an answer" I poke her playfully. She takes a deep breath like she has to prepare herself for the conversation.

"I couldn't do it anymore."

"Do what anymore?" I push.

"Stay with her. But I also didn't have the guts to do anything about it permanently either" I know which her she is referring to but I hope I'm wrong about her permanent solution.

"Permanently?" I question.

"I tried, but I couldn't" She has tears running down her face now. I decide to shift the conversation for a bit.

"How did you get to New York?"

"I hitchhiked." My stomach drops at this given all the horror stories you hear one the news.

"Okay. And the shoplifting?"

"It was only for food. Mom would always try to get us to take other stuff but I didn't want to. I know it's wrong. But I was so hungry."

"Okay. What did you plan to do while you were in New York?"

"I didn't really think about it. I just had to get away from Georgia." The tears are coming in full force now; I pull her in to me and wrap my arms around her.

"It's okay" I say, trying to soothe her.

"I can't go back" She is sobbing and shaking against me now.

"No one is going to make you go anywhere. But we need to figure out the next step, okay?"

"How?"

"I need to call the people I spoke with last night, but we won't do anything you don't want to."

"Really?"

"I promise"

She sniffles and clings to me like a little kid.

"Okay"

We sit there in silence for a while and when I look back down at her I notice she has fallen asleep.

Santana POV

I have no idea what just happened. One minute we're awkwardly enjoying breakfast, and the next I've got two people storming out of my house. Today is clearly not my day.

Bailey looks at me inquisitively.

"Don't judge me" I say to him.

He is covered in his breakfast so I decide I'm going to bathe him and then we can go out shopping. I know Dani has a lot to deal with at the moment and me trying to grovel when I don't even know what I did will be low on her list of priorities.
