Chapter 12: Post-Mission

Team VAND returned to the school roughly evening time since they had to climb out of a chasm and up a cliff face. Victor's arm was battlefield fixed with a shirt tied around his wound as Nigel's metal back pack for his rounds was busted from the Alpha Blackhound. The group entered the school and made their way to Professor Ozpin's office to update them on the mission and the new Grimm species. They made their way up and luckily found Ozpin just about to walk out of his office. "Ah, Team VAND. How did the mission go?" Professor Ozpin questioned. "We found that the new species of Grimm have taken up residence in the chasm by the ruins." Victor answered. Dev jumped in "They are large, dog like Grimm that we've taken to calling Blackhounds. Exhibit a pack instinct with an alpha male to lead the group." Professor Ozpin nodded and questioned "And Mr. Roman here was injured during this observation?"

Victor nodded and replied "Yes sir. We got into a confrontation with some of the Blackhounds, which was unavoidable."

"I see. Well, thank you for your work. You may continue the rest of your day as you usually do."

The group turned and was about to leave until Professor Ozpin called "And Mr. Roman." He turned and Professor Ozpin finished "Give Ms. Nikos my regards." Victor nodded and the team continued with their trek back to their room. All of them dropped their bags by their beds and Victor exclaimed "Well, I'm getting dinner. I'm pretty hungry after all this adventure." Almost everyone nodded, except Alexi, who proclaimed "I'm going to chill here for a bit. You guys go on without me."

All of them nodded and left, leaving Alexi to lay on his bed and relax a bit. He had a moment to himself until he heard 'scratching at the door, like a small dog would when they wanted in. Alexi sighed and yelled "You can open the door yourself Victor! You're an adult!" The scratching stopped for a second, but then the scratching started back up. Alexi groaned and got up, opening the door to see an empty hallway.

"What the-." Alexi questioned until he started to feel something rub against his ankles. He looked down to see four Blackhound pups rubbing against him. They looked up at him and yipped happily, pawing at his calves. "This is very bad." Alexi exclaimed as he took a step back, the pups following him into the room. Alexi shut the door and went to his bed with his Blackhound pups still on his feet.

He looked down to his feet to see the pups jumping onto his calves and yipped happily at him. "This is very bad." Alexi cursed as he watched the four pups start to rough house with each other. He ran his through his hair as he watched the pups play amongst each other. "What am I going to do with you four?" Alexi grumbled, catching the attention of the four pups. They moved up to his feet again and whimpered a little.

"What? What do you want?" Alexi questioned, as if the Blackhound pups were going to answer him. One licked its teeth and whimpered, as if it were hungry. "I think I might know what you want." Alexi sighed as he went to his bag. He pulled out the last of his jerky from his bag and dropped it on the floor, the pups tearing at it greedily. One snapped at another and Alexi barked "Hey! Be nice." The pups shrunk back, and then went back to the meet, but at a calmer pace.

He grabbed a bottle of water as the pups finished up eating and poured some of it into his hand. He lowered his hand and the pups started to lap up the water greedily. He poured more into his hand, allowing the pups to continue drinking. After the pups had their fill, they flocked to Alexi and curled up next to him, falling asleep almost immediately. Alexi sighed as he stood up and grabbed one of Victor's old ratty shirts.

He scooped the pups into the shirt and slid it under his bed. "Now you four don't go anywhere. I'm going to get some food myself." Alexi exclaimed to the pups, as if they were listening. He hung his blanket low so the pups wouldn't be seen from someone looking at his bed. He walked out of his room and grumbled "I don't see this going any way good, but I can't just kill some helpless pups. That's just not cool." Alexi continued down the hall, contemplating what he was going to do next.

Victor, Nigel and Dev walked into the cafeteria during dinner time, so it was pretty packed. Victor was able to take a few steps in before his name was called out in aggravation "Victor Roman!" He looked around to see Pyrrha walking over to him with a very serious look on her face. "You're in trouble." Dev chuckled as he took a few steps away from Vic. She pointed at Victor as she got closer and nearly shouted "What did you promise me?"

Victor looked around as if there was another Victor Roman Pyrrha could be yelling at. He turned to her and exclaimed "That I would come back in one piece?" She placed a finger on his bandaged arm and barked "And what is this?"

"Um… a scratch?"

"Scratches don't require a bandage made of a t-shirt!"

Victor lowered himself and whispered "Pyrrha, you do realize how this must look to everyone else?" Pyrrha's face turned a bright red as she looked around and realized that everyone was looking at the two. Victor patted her head and chuckled "Don't worry about it. I'm going to grab some food, meet you at the table?" Pyrrha let out a breath and sighed "Alright. I'll meet you at the table." Victor smiled the warm smile Pyrrha always enjoyed when she was around him.

Pyrrha headed back to the table and rubbed her temples, trying to erase the headache she was developing. "Surprised you didn't just mount the Big Guy right then and there." Yang joked. Pyrrha rolled her eyes and replied "Just because I worry, doesn't mean that I wish to sleep with Victor." Blake lowered her book and exclaimed "You were fretting about Victor's safety a lot, and you did just scold him like he was your boyfriend."

"Well, we're just good friends. That's all."

Grey laughed on the other side of Yang "Yeah right. No offense, Pyrrha, but you and Victor seem like you're dating." Pyrrha felt herself start to get frustrated and snapped "Well, we aren't." Grey nudged Kris with her elbow and jested "Looks like you still don't have any competition for Victor." Kris rolled her eyes and replied "Like I had any." Pyrrha put up a fake smile, but clenched her fist beneath the table.

Victor, Nigel and Dev finally arrived at the table with food in hand. "Whatcha guys talking about?" Victor questioned as he took a seat next to Pyrrha and began to eat. "Oh, nothing." Pyrrha replied quickly replied to prevent anyone from saying anything. Ruby spoke up and questioned "Hey Victor, can I get the notes from Leadership Class? I've missed a few spots that I'm sure you have." Victor nodded and replied "Sure thing Ruby."

"How is it that you require assistance in all other classes, yet you excel in Leadership Class?" Weiss questioned in between bites. "Because Victor is a wolf." Ren answered quietly. Everyone looked to him as Ren questioned "If I may? Wolves work in a pack mentality, Victor is acting naturally as the Alpha Wolf and taking control. He controls his team with precision and tact. Am I wrong?" Victor shook his head and replied "Nope. Hit the nail right on the head." Everyone chuckled until Velvet walked over and cheered "Nigel!"

Everyone looked over to see the rabbit Faunus wearing her battle gear with a large smile on her face. Nigel stood up and embraced Velvet in a hug, the two spinning with the momentum. "You said that you were going to be away a day at least." Velvet exclaimed as the two finally separated, but she kept her arms over his shoulders. "We finished our mission early." Nigel answered as he kept his hands on Velvet's waist.

"Does that mean our date will come earlier than expected?"

"Indeed it does."

Velvet smiled and wrapped Nigel in another hug, everyone's eyes on the two. "Don't they just make the cutest couple!" Nora cheered. Nabuya cheered with her "Hell yes they do!" Kira remained quiet until Alexi walked in during all the commotion and took a seat next to her. A familiar smell drifted to her nose, the smell of Grimm. "How close did you get to Grimm?" Kira questioned.

"Pretty close." Alexi replied before he started eating.

"You stink like Grimm."

"I guess I should shower then."

Alexi chuckled, causing Kira to chuckle a bit. Everyone sat down and they enjoyed their time at dinner together with plenty of jokes and jests to go around. After dinner, everyone decided to retire to their rooms for the night and get ready for classes in the morning. Alexi was the first to jump into the shower, since he apparently stunk the worse after their mission. Nigel sat on his bed, texting Velvet about their date while Dev strummed a few chords on his guitar and Victor cracked a book open.

After Dev strummed a few chords, there was a small yipping, like from a small dog. "Victor?" Dev questioned, causing Victor to lower his book. "What?" Victor replied with a tinge of annoyance in his voice.

"Are you… yipping?"

"I haven't done that since I was a pup. But I was hearing it too. Nigel?"

Nigel nodded and replied "I heard it as well companions. Dev, why don't you play a little bit and we can discover the source of the yipping." Dev started playing and soon after, so did the yipping. Victor and Nigel zeroed in on the yipping, finding it came from beneath Alexi's bed. Victor lifted his blanket and discovered four Blackhound pups hiding beneath the bed, and on one of his shirts too. Victor raised an eyebrow at the pups that now looked at his with red eyes, one walking up to him and sniffing him.

Victor, like the dog he is, sniffed back and found the Grimm to smell more like a dog than the usual smell of death that accompanied Grimm. The pup yipped and licked Victor's nose, then bounced a bit like it wanted to play. Victor picked the pup up by scooping it up and showing it to the group. "Is that what I think it is?" Dev questioned as he set his guitar aside. "I believe it is." Nigel proclaimed. "A Blackhound pup. What would it be doing here?"

"Let's ask Alexi." Victor exclaimed as he set the pup back on the ground. Alexi walked out of the shower to see his teammates looking at him, and the Blackhound pups bouncing around at their feet. "Um… I can explain." Alexi stated nervously. "Oh, please do my dear boy." Nigel replied.

"Um, they followed me here?"

All of his team gave him a look that screamed "I don't believe you". Alexi sighed and explained "I saw that their mother had died and they were hungry, so I gave them some of my food. After that, I guess they just followed me here. They probably think that I'm their mother now." Victor looked down at the pups, seeing them rough house with each other in play. "What should we do with them?" Victor questioned. "I'm not sure." Dev answered. "So far, they've just acted like normal dogs, but they are Grimm." Nigel scratched his chin and added "Still, we cannot ignore what we see before us."

"I suggest a trial period." Victor exclaimed. "Until these four become a problem, you can keep them. But you're in charge of taking care of them." Alexi rolled his eyes and replied "Okay Dad. I bet it will be a real test of responsibility." Alexi knelt down and petted his pups, happy that he would be able to keep them.
