A/N: Hello again my friends. I've missed you all. I wanted to get this out sooner but work and life got in the way. I put a lot into these updates and there's been a major decrease in reviews for the last two, so I tried not to stress myself about updating if interest is waning. I still love this story, I hope you all do too.
Enjoy! :)

11 - Points of Authority
Bonnie groaned as she was awakened by the ting of a cell phone notification. She blindly reached her hand out and pulled the phone off the bedside drawer and opened one eye to see who was texting her. She immediately brightened when she saw it was Julius. Thought about you all night. I miss you...
She smiled and sat up as she typed out a reply. She stopped when she noticed something sitting on the drawer that hadn't been there the night before. She got off the bed and picked it up. It was a tablet with a red bow on the top and sticky note attached to it.
Enjoy. I already loaded some books I know you'll enjoy.
-D
It was a brand new Kindle Fire HDX. When she powered it on she rolled her eyes at the fact that the books he spoke of was the Fifty Shades Trilogy but couldn't help but chuckle to herself. She was taken aback by the gesture. Damon had been uncharacteristically generous towards her lately and she wasn't sure if she was comfortable with it
Taking the Kindle, she made her way downstairs where the smell of bacon directed her to the kitchen. Stefan was moving around the kitchen, preparing what looked like a very tasty breakfast. He acknowledged Bonnie's presence as he took the bacon off the skillet.
"You slept later than usual," he said as he turned to give her a once-over. "You feeling okay?"
"I'm fine," she said. "I was up late last night. Do you know anything about this?" She held up the Kindle. Stefan shook his head, replying in the negatory. "I think Damon left it in my room this morning. I was just wondering why."
"Well, that was very...nice of Damon, which is a sentence I never thought I'd say," he responded. "If you're looking for an answer, all I can say is enjoy this while it lasts. Hopefully this means I get a break from you two bickering for a little while." Bonnie couldn't see that happening, they always found something to bicker about, but now she felt just a bit bad about subjecting everyone around them to their annoying habit of disagreeing with each other about almost everything. She settled into the stool before the counter where Stefan was laying out the food. "Anyway, I'm glad you're up because I was going to wake you soon. You need to eat a real breakfast, keep your strength up." He placed a full plate before her. "Eat up."
Bonnie didn't make a move toward the plate. "You're doing it again," she observed.
"Doing what?"
"That Stefan thing you do when your face gets all serious and you tell everyone what's best for them," she explained.
"Oh." His brow furrowed even further. "I didn't realize I did that. I'm just trying to look out for you."
"I know." Bonnie picked up the fork. "That's what you do. You look out for people."
"If that annoys you then I apologize," he replied, seemingly insincerely. "Hope you like the food. I'm heading out."
"You're actually going to leave me by myself? About time you stop putting your life on hold..." Bonnie's sentence trailed off as she took in Stefan's expression and realization quickly sunk in. "There's someone here, isn't there?"
"She should be knocking on the door in two seconds," he revealed. Two seconds later that was exactly what happened. "Be right back." He disappeared into the hall and Bonnie turned her attention to her food until she heard the sounds of someone entering. Expecting either Caroline or Elena, she was surprised by who actually walked into the kitchen.
"Abby?"
Her mother gave an unsure smile in return. "Hi, Bonnie." Bonnie got up from her seat and embraced her.
"I gave her a very brief synopsis of what's been going on and she wanted to come see you," Stefan told her.
"Why haven't you told me someone's after you?" Abby questioned. Bonnie sighed.
"I wanted to keep you out of it," Bonnie replied. "It's not your fight."
"You're my daughter. Of course it is."
"I'm going to go," Stefan announced. "I'll be back later." Both bid him goodbye and proceeded to catch up. Bonnie told her about Julius without including any of the romantic details, but Abby was able to conclude on her own that they were more than friends, regardless of her daughter's evasiveness. Abby expressed concern about leaving her at the boardinghouse with such a huge threat out there, but she didn't offer to take her in and Bonnie sure as hell wasn't going to ask. They were in a much better space than they ever had been but their bond still wasn't that tight. Sadly, Bonnie had accepted that it probably never would be. Abby just wasn't that kind of mother, but if Bonnie called on her to come she would be there.
After a couple hours of conversation Bonnie offered her a blood bag. She didn't think Stefan or Damon would miss it and if they did, oh well. While Abby had her lunch, Bonnie stepped away and placed a phone call to Damon.
"Funny, I was just about to call you," he answered by way of greeting. "How are you holding up in the boring-house, as you like to put it, without me?"
"Well, someone left me a gift to help with the boredom, but it was such a nice gesture I knew it couldn't have possibly been you."
"Well, I had to do something to get you to quit you're whining," he quipped. "You can't quit on The Walking Dead with me, though. We have to finish that."
"Of course," Bonnie responded. "That kind of action has to be watched on the big screen." There was a brief pause in the conversation as Bonnie grew serious again. "Why?"
"I can't pretend like you haven't done a lot for me and my brother. And Elena," he said. "The least I can do is try to keep a crazy vampire lady from chomping your head off. And provide you with that smut you so enjoy."
"God, I wish Caroline never gave me that book," Bonnie said with an eye roll.
"You mean you wish I never found it."
"Whatever," she said with a smile and he laughed on the other end of the phone. She grew serious again. "Thank you, Damon."
"Yeah, don't get used it."
Bonnie ended the call with a chuckle. She made a decision right then and there. She soon found herself rummaging through the refrigerator and cupboards of the Salvatore kitchen. She wasn't the best cook, but she used her Kindle to find a recipe for a pasta dish she liked and she was going to follow the instructions to a T.
Caroline and Elena stopped by, granting Abby permission to leave, with plans to get Bonnie out of the house. As they entered, the smell of shrimp and pasta sauce greeted them. "Something smells good in here," Caroline said as she and Elena wandered into the kitchen where Bonnie was hard at work. "Bonnie...are you cooking?"
"Yeah, I'm trying my hand at some fine Italian dining," Bonnie replied. "I know I haven't been the easiest person to live with, and Stefan has been so great with me staying here and Damon...hasn't been the absolute worst. So, I'm cooking them a thank-you dinner."
Caroline noticed the tablet sitting on the table and picked it up curiously. "Who's Kindle is this?" She asked as she turned it on and examined it.
"Mine," Bonnie replied. "Damon gave it to me to help appease my boredom." She turned her back to them to continue cooking. Caroline looked at Elena with her brow raised.
"This is a little strange." Caroline dropped her voice as she spoke to her fellow vampire.
"What is?" Elena asked.
"Damon buying Bonnie gifts and now she's cooking for him," Caroline elaborated. "What happened to them not being able to stand the sight of each other?"
Elena shrugged. "It's a little weird but I guess they're just trying to co-exist peacefully for the time being," she suggested. "I think it's good."
"Well, if you're cool with it then I'm cool with it," Caroline said with a shrug, returning the Kindle to the table. She spoke up again so Bonnie could hear her. "We were going to go out for a drink, and thought you would want to come and get out of the house for a while, but it doesn't look like a good time."
"I'll definitely take you up on that next time," Bonnie told her.
"That's probably Damon or Stefan pulling up right now," Caroline said. "I'm ready whenever you are, Elena. Later, Bonnie."
"Bye, Care," Bonnie called back as the blonde headed out. Elena lingered and watched as the witch drained the linguini pasta she'd boiled to perfection.
"Linguini is Damon's favorite pasta," Elena observed. "How did you know that?"
"I didn't," Bonnie said. "I just thought a couple Italians might appreciate an Italian meal and this dish seemed like the easiest to make. After spaghetti of course. Does Stefan like it?" Elena nodded. "Good, I made the right choice. Sure you don't want to stay?"
Elena shook her head uncertainly. "Next time," she said then turned her head at the sound of the front door being opened and the sound of Damon's voice. She flashed out into the hall and stopped short in front of her boyfriend.
"Whoa, excited to see me?" He teased with a smirk. Instead of replying she placed a full kiss on his lips, her hand caressing the side of his face. He smiled when she pulled away. "I'm going to take that as a yes." He grabbed her by the waist and pulled her in for another deep kiss. He stepped forward and her back hit the wall, and he pulled her body closer to his as they continued to kiss. Elena was confused when he suddenly stopped.
"Is that shrimp scampi with linguini I smell?" He questioned.
"Your favorite," she said with a sigh. "I'll be back in a little while. I'm just going to grab a drink with Care then I'll head back." Damon nodded and she gave him a quick kiss. "I love you."
"I love you too." He stepped back and watched as she exited the house. He flashed into the kitchen and stopped in confusion at the sight of Bonnie putting the finishing touches on her grilled chicken caesar salad. When she took notice of him her face brightened with a smile
"Surprise," she said, calmly.
His head tilted as he took in the food she'd placed out on the counter. "You cooked for me?" He asked incredulously.
"You've bought me a car, a Kindle, and saved my life." She rounded the counter as she spoke. "Making a meal in the house you and Stefan have me staying in is the least I can do. Where is Stefan? I had a speech prepared for both of you."
"He's still out but I'm sure he won't miss it."
Bonnie rolled her eyes. "Look, this is an official offering of peace," she declared. "While you've also done many reprehensible things in the past few weeks and you get on my nerves more than any other person on this earth, we've mostly been fighting on the same side since I've met you." She stepped closer to him and he regarded her as he tried to determine how he felt about this. "I never asked for you to be in my life, but you are, and now we share the same space. We can at least try to continue peaceful coexistence while I'm here, if for anything than to not drive Stefan completely crazy. You've extended an olive branch, so here's mine."
"So, what? We're going to sit down and share a meal like a couple of buddy ol' pals?" He asked sarcastically.
"We're not pals," she corrected. "We're roommates. Roommates who won't kill each other."
"We'll see about that."
"There's extra shrimp in the pasta."
"Ok, you're safe for now." He moved to the counter and grabbed a plate and Bonnie followed suit.
"Should we wait for Stefan?" She asked as they settled at the kitchen table.
"Who knows when he'll be home," he said. "We have a microwave. I'm hungry now." Bonnie shook her head as she scooped salad onto his plate and he piled on the shrimp and pasta. And as the two talked and ate, they had no idea they were being watched.
Julius was feeling a litany of emotions as he approached 124 Cedar Drive. He didn't know who or what was going to be on the other side of that door when he knocked, all he knew was that his daughter had better be perfectly healthy, or someone was getting dragged to hell.
He'd been all over town, showing Valerie's pictures to the residents. Finally a woman at the grocery store said she'd seen the child multiple times when she went to visit her sister. She said she'd seen a few people come and go from the house across the street from her sister's, describing one as a stunningly beautiful, exotic looking woman with black hair and grey eyes, and fashion befitting of a pin-up girl. She suspected the little girl wasn't the child of any of the adults that came and went from the home, but was sure there was a reasonable explanation and decided not to pry.
Julius could hear the TV going as he knocked on the door. He was planning to try the most peaceful approach first, even if Victoria was the one to answer, because he knew it wasn't smart to exact revenge before Valerie was safely back in his arms. No matter how much he wanted to rip some hearts out.
He knocked again and when the door was opened Julius' eyes widened. "You." The word came out of his mouth in a near-whisper.
The young man that stood just over the threshold recognized Julius but for a completely different reason. "We've been waiting for you to show up," he said, very matter-of-fact. Julius heard the whoosh behind him and quickly spun around. He had no chance to react as the supernatural being moved quickly and stuck a vervain needle into his neck. He cried out in pain and dropped to his knees. The unfamiliar vampire kicked him over and his back hit the ground. He looked up into the face of the human who'd answered the door as his senses began to slip away. He looked up into the face that he would never forget, the face that had been embedded into his memory, the face of the man that had killed him.
Four Years Earlier...
Julius woke with a start. He realized he was laying in a pool of blood and sat up, taking a moment to collect his thoughts and remember where he was and what had happened. The bullet that had been embedded in his head a moment ago now lay on the ground and he picked it up and examined it as it all came back to him. A mad man had burst into the house and shot him in cold blood. He had died. He'd fed on Victoria's blood hours earlier, so he'd died with vampire blood in his system.
The shocking realization of what that meant shook Julius to his core. The vampires in his coven had explained it to him in detail. He was no longer human, and if he didn't drink human blood and complete the transition, he would die permanently. They'd also told him that controlling the bloodlust in the beginning was one of the most difficult things you could ever achieve, taking some vampires decades to master.
He noticed a puddle of blood staining the beige carpet about three feet away from him, leading to a bloody trail. He stood and followed the trail around the bed. His eyes widened at the sight of a bleeding, seemingly unconscious April laying on the ground. He dropped to his knees and gently cradled her in his arms.
"Please wake up, April, please wake up," he coaxed. As she began to stir in his arms he felt a burning in the back of his throat. The smell of her blood filled his nostrils and it was nearly impossible to ignore. She opened her eyes slowly, then they widened in shock at the sight of him.
"How are you alive?" She asked in a weak voice. " I watched him kill you." Tears welled in Julius' eyes. "Am I dead?"
"No, you're not dead, baby," he said. "You're going to be okay. What did he do to you?"
She was bleeding from a wound on her forehead which suggested he'd hit her with the butt of his gun. The scent was starting to overwhelm him. He gently brought a finger to the gash on her head, painting the tip with her blood, and held it up and examined it.
"What are you doing?" April questioned, her tone suggesting she was a little freaked. Before he could question his own actions, Julius brought his finger to his lips and licked off the blood. It was the best thing he'd ever tasted. April's expression read shock and disbelief. Julius felt the hunger taking over and an ache in his mouth. April gasped as a pair of fangs slowly protruded from his gums. He pushed her off his lap and shot up.
"I have to get away from you," he said in a husky voice then headed to the door.
"What's happening to you?!" She cried desperately, using the bed for support to stand. "What's happening to your face?"
"I can't explain now, I just have to get out of here." He rushed out of the room, flying down the stairs. He threw the front door open and tried to put his foot through the doorway but found that he couldn't. He tried again but there seemed to be some kind of barrier keeping him in. He started to panic as his throat burned with the need to feed. Then he suddenly felt like he couldn't breathe. He was pushed up against the invisible barrier, as if something else was trying to pull him out.
"Jonathan!" April was at the top of the stairs
"Don't come near me!" He screamed as she slowly headed down toward him. "I'm not invited in." She looked at him in confusion. He understood he was now a vampire in a human home that he hadn't been invited in to as a vampire. He clutched his chest as he still felt like he couldn't breathe, although a vampire didn't have the need to breathe. April stood in front of him, her pretty brown eyes confused and scared. She reached out to him and he grabbed her wrist aggressively.
'Just a little taste,' he compromised to himself. 'I'm not going to hurt her. I can make myself stop'.
"Jon, what are-" April stopped and screeched as he unexpectedly sank his teeth into her wrist. It felt like two huge needles piercing her veins at the same time and she was not a fan of it. She struggled to get out of his hold but his grip was too strong. "Stop! What are you doing, stop!" He stopped, lifted his head, and looked at her in a way that terrified her to the core. Blood dripped from his fangs and covered his mouth, his eyes were a solid black, black veins pulsed on his face, and he snarled at her. This wasn't Jonathan. This was a monster.
Her heart hammered in her chest as he grabbed her by the neck and her pleas went ignored as he ripped into it. He drank and drank but it wasn't enough to satiate him. He wanted more, he wanted all of it. Her screams drowned out the sound of a baby crying on the second floor.
"You're cheating!"
"Am not."
"You looked at my cards when I stepped away, Damon, don't lie! You're totally cheating!" Bonnie's fingers jabbed the air as she accused her housemate of dishonesty.
"Stop being a sore loser and sit down," Damon responded. "It's not my fault you suck at winning."
Bonnie took back her spot in the chair at the kitchen table and crossed her arms defiantly. "I don't want to play anymore."
"Stop being such a baby," Damon said.
"What's the point if you're just going to cheat the whole time."
"Whatever, I was just trying to kill time until Elena got back," he said, tossing his cards down. Bonnie glared at him. "Don't look at me like that. You're just trying to pass the time until your boyfriend calls you again."
"What?"
"I heard you on the phone last night. Oh Julius, I miss you so much," he said, mockingly.
"Shut up," she said as he laughed at his momentary immaturity.
"I have to ask, Bon Bon, do you think this guy is your fairytale love? Your Prince Charming?" He questioned. "Do you expect you two to ride off into the sunset together when this is all said and done?"
Bonnie paused before giving an answer. "I take each day as it comes," she answered, truthfully. "I don't expect anything anymore."
"But that's what you want?"
Bonnie shook her head, uncertainly. "I just want to be happy." Damon's face grew serious. He leaned on the table and as he opened his mouth to speak the sound of glass shattering cut off his coming reply, Damon and Bonnie exchanged a befuddled look before a sizable rock crashed through window above the sink. The both of them jumped out of their seats and the sound of another window breaking came from the living-room. Damon flashed into the living-room, Bonnie running up behind him. The front door flew open and hit the wall with a bang.
A female voice coming from outside carried into the house. "Come out, come out little Bennett." The voice had an airy, teasing tone to it. "You're adulterous, romantic dinner with the hot vampire is over." Damon and Bonnie exchanged another look then wandered out into the hallway. The door was open and all they could see was the dark of the night. The woman, whose identity Bonnie was almost positive of, was just out of sight from their standpoint.
"Hey Damon!" She called. "I have your pretty little girlfriend." Damon's eyes widened and Bonnie's heart dropped into her stomach. "Please don't think for one second I won't rip her heart out and eat it. All I want is the witch."
Bonnie had barely taken a step before she was pinned against the wall. Damon eyes narrowed at her. "Don't you even think about it," he hissed.
"Damon..." Elena's voice was so weak Bonnie barely even heard it.
"Don't move," Damon told Bonnie firmly, then released her and sped out onto the front porch. Two beautiful female vampires stood on his lawn. One was statuesque, dark-haired, with gray eyes that seemed to pierce into the soul. The other had darker skin and a look that suggested Filipino descent, and she looked pissed as all get-out. She was holding Elena by the neck, who was crouched before her and appeared to be slipping in and out of consciousness. It was obvious she was pumped full of vervain.
"Let me guess," Damon started, wearing a pissed look to match. "Victoria."
"You were expecting me, weren't you?" She said with an unsettling smile. "Were you expecting my friend here?" She gestured to the woman holding Elena. "This is Akira, the wife of the vampire you killed to save Bonnie. If you haven't noticed yet, Damon, that was a mistake."
"The mistake was him stepping anywhere near her," he threw back. "He got what he had coming to him."
A low growl formed in Akira's throat. "Akira..." Victoria said her name in a way that calmed her, but she still looked at Damon with eyes to kill. "He was my oldest companion and the love of her life, and she wants nothing more than to tear you to shreds. If you don't give me Bonnie, I'll make you watch as I slowly and painfully put an end to Elena, then Akira will do the same to you. Who knows, maybe we won't stop there. We might kill Elena's blonde friend she was partying with tonight, or maybe your handsome brother..."
Damon snarled at this. Victoria's smile widened. "Yes, I think he would be my next victim," she said. "I might have a little fun with him first, if you know what I mean. Can't let a body like that go to waste. And after I killed all your friends, I would get my hands on Bonnie anyway, make her give my witch his power back, then suck her dry. So all this violence would've been for nothing. Is that what you want, Damon?" She raised her voice. "Is that what you want, Bonnie? If you need a little motivation, I'll have you know that my people have Julius as well! If you don't come willingly, I'll gladly take both you and Damon and make you watch as I kill your lovers. Or maybe I'll have them watch as I kill you two...haven't decided yet."
Damon's voice dropped to a menacing level. "If you touch one-"
Before he could finish his sentence, Victoria had snatched Elena up by her hair and had her arm wrapped tightly around her neck. "I will take her head off right now," she hissed angrily. "Don't ever fucking threaten me, little boy."
Anger overtook Damon and he was rushing her. She swiftly snapped Elena's neck and tossed her to the side just before he pounced on her. They hit the ground and she quickly overpowered him. He found himself on his stomach, arms pinned behind his back.
"Stop!" Bonnie's voice reverberated from the porch. All three vampires stopped sneering at each other and looked up at her.
"Damn it, Bonnie, I told you not to move," Damon huffed, exasperated.
"I'm here." Bonnie walked down the steps toward them. "Don't hurt him." Victoria retracted her fangs and stood up, releasing Damon. Akira dug her stiletto into his back to ensure he didn't make a move.
"So, you're her," Victoria observed, looking Bonnie up and down. "The one who stole my man's heart away."
"I didn't steal anything," Bonnie replied, boldly. "You haven't had his heart in a long time, you were just too self-absorbed to notice." Victoria was suddenly in front of her, towering above her, but Bonnie didn't flinch, didn't even blink.
"Okay." She relaxed her stance, though she couldn't help but be bothered by how unintimidated the little witch was. "We're going, If you try anything, Julius is dead. Are we clear?"
"If you hurt any of my other friends, you're dead," Bonnie told her, looking her straight in the eye, "Are we clear?"
"You have a lot of fucking nerve, bitch." Victoria grabbed her by the arm but Bonnie quickly snatched it away.
"I can walk myself," she snapped.
"Grab him," Victoria instructed Akira who pulled out a syringe full of vervain and stuck it in Damon's neck, then pulled him up.
"What are you doing?!" Bonnie cried. "You said if I came you would let him go."
"No, I didn't," Victoria corrected. "I said if you came I would let Elena go and wouldn't kill all his friends then kill him. I never said I would just let him go. He killed my best friend, Bonnie. Would you be able to let something like that go?"
"You're not going to get away with this," Bonnie warned her.
"I always do, little one," Victoria teased. "Now stop moping and get excited. You're going to see your boyfriend again."
A/N: Thanks for reading! Yes, I tried to write in a little of that PW-type Bamon we love. Please leave a review. There is a lot of craziness to come. :)
