The woman threw open the door to reveal a very terrified China crouching in the corner. He trembled and stared at her, eyes wide with fear. She froze. She just stared blankly at him. The two just stared at each other in silence for what seemed like forever. Both had terrified looks on their faces. Finally one attempted to say something.
"R-Russia?" China asked, "I-Is that you?" The woman nodded. "Wh-What happened to you aru?"
"China…" she replied, "It's not something I want to talk about. You wouldn't understand. I don't even know what is going on. I just woke up one day and…this happened." China was silent. "If you want to leave, I understand. It's weird even for me. Just please don't tell anyone."
"Of course I won't."
"R-Really?"
"If something is weird even for you, I understand aru. Besides my history has had its fair share of secret cross dressers. I'd sort of be a hypocrite." Russia smiled and hugged him tightly.
"Thank you so…so much!"
China felt a smile land on his face. He couldn't help but to smile in her presence. This Russia seemed 5x less scary. Her size still intimidated him, but as the meeting went on, he felt more and more comfortable around her.
It had been a month since China had found out. Russia was now sitting on the couch watching tv. She sighed. I haven't been my usual self lately. I haven't been stalking anyone like I used to. Probably because the two people that i do stalk like me now…That's nice. No more panda suits and no more prickly rose bushes.
"I'm back!" called Lithuania, "With ice cream, a heating pad, vodka, and a chainsaw."
"Thank you!" Russia yelled back.
"Oh! Belarus!" Lithuania came into the room, "I got you your birt–"
"Thank you," she interrupted.
"Oh Lithuania! Could you do me a favour?" Russia requested, "Could you please take that old chainsaw down to the basement?"
"Sure…"
"Thank you!"
"You're welcome," he replied, though he was really questioning if a woman of Russia's mindset and condition should really be in possession of a brand new chainsaw.
"Oh and, Lithuania?" He went back to Russia. "Tomorrow if I feel better maybe we can talk about an oil deal. How does that sound?"
"Oil?!" He did like oil. Oil made the world go round and made nations go to war. He'd like to have some nice affordable oil. Oil was nice. Oil was good. "Definitely! We can totally do that tomorrow!"
"Alright!" Russia cheered, "I have such a nice week. I only have one meeting with…shit! Who was it again?" Russia checked her phone, "Ah! Canada! I like Canada. He's very nice and will be very useful to my plan."
Lithuania traveled down the stairs.
He looked around shadowy basement. The nostalgia began to creep up on him.
Ah! Lithuania? Could you come here for a second…
He shook his head. He could do this. This basement was just a storage area. He can't be afraid of a basement. Then again, the basement was were all the ghosts were in the movies. But those aren't real. He slowly walked down the stairs. Memories of the old Russia echoed in his head with step.
L-Lithuania! Please! Hurry! I can't move!
May I…sleep with you three tonight…it's awfully cold and lonely in my room…
Why don't you three sleep in my bed tonight? It's much warmer together!
Thank you for saving me…I would have been married if you hadn't.
We're friends, right Lithuania?
Lithuania…why would you do that?
I won't catch you dropping dishes again, will I Lithuania?
You are my property, after all.
Seeing your humiliation brings a smile to my face!
Don't do that again or it will be worse~
Eh? Why are you hiding? Don't you find this fun?
He shook the memories from his head. When he reached the bottom he set the rusty chainsaw by a pile of boxes. The basement was dark and cold like always. The dreary atmosphere hadn't changed. The only thing that had changed were the collections boxes and the dust. The bed they used to sleep in was still there. Even the sheets were still there. The bed was neatly made. Dusty, but still made up neatly. It probably hadn't been touched since 1991. He smiled. Memories of sleeping here with Latvia and Estonia came back. The winters were never cold with their body heat. Treating an injured Latvia with an "I told you so" after a stretching. Estonia falling asleep with his glasses on. Russia hiding from his sister. Russia wanting to sleep with them during the winter because his room was too cold. His smile faded as he turned his head the other direction. Lithuania knew that past that hall was the door to a room. A room whose rumours always echoed throughout the Soviet house…
"What are you doing?"
Lithuania screamed. Belarus glared at him. He sighed. "You gave me a heart attack!"
"What's taking you so long?" she asked.
"Nothing just…nostalgia," he answered.
"Oh yeah. Forgot you used to sleep down here," stated Belarus, "The bed looks nice. I remember I caught Estonia with one of my bras down here. What a pervert."
"Um…yeah! Estonia was such a pervert!" Lithuania laughed nervously.
"Oh! remember the rumour that there was a secret room back here? One that lead to a sub basement where big brother kept all his prisoners in times of war," she reminisced.
"It's not a rumour."
"Hm?"
"It's real. That room exists," he added.
"I know this entire house thoroughly! I know all the secret rooms," she replied, "Why would I not find this legendary dungeon of my fantasies?"
"Here." Lithuania went over to the wall by the boxes. He grabbed a spare pipe leaning up against the wall. He then lead Belarus down the long hall. Doors to workshops, storage, and empty spaces past them. Lithuania stopped at a certain point in the hall. He then felt along the blank, white wall with shaky hands. He stuck the pipe against the wall and with a lot of effort, turned it sideways. There was a click. Suddenly wood lifted up, creating a dark doorway. Belarus stared in awe. The doorway was pitch black. She stared at it with amazement and a bit of envy. How did she not notice this? Then again, she usually avoided the Baltics as much as possible. She dashed up to the doorway.
"No fucking way..." she breathed. She hit a light switch on the side that caused a dim lightbulb to flicker on. She began heading down.
"You coming?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"I just…don't want to go down there," he excused.
"Why? You Scared?" Belarus teased.
"No! Just…I can't," shivered Lithuania.
"Aren't you a bit curious?"
"No."
"Why not? If you're not scared, why not come with me?" Belarus sneered.
"It's nothing special. The room is pretty bland," he lied.
"How would you know?" Belarus replied.
"Because I've been there!" Lithuania blurted. It was quiet. "Look, go down there if you want. Just know that you may not like what you see…"
Lithuania then began upstairs. He shook his head. It's all over. You're free. You have nothing to fear anymore. That's why you left. It's time to leave that behind. But if I left, why am I still here? Why am I helping a person I loathed for decades—no— centuries?
Belarus shrugged and continued down the stairs. She thrust open the heavy metal door. Wow…this place really was sound proof. The glint of the chord caught her eye. She then yanked on it, causing light to illuminate the room.
"Yes!"
"Shit!"
After the meeting, Canada and Russia decided to watch the hockey game together. They were currently at a cafe, which Canada had insisted on since he did not want to drink so early. Canada added some syrup to his coffee while Russia added some vodka.
"So what's going on with you, eh?" Canada asked.
"Not much," she lied, "It has been pretty much same as always…"
"That's surprising with all the war talk stemming from America," elaborated Canada, "It sounds like things are really bad between you two."
"Things are always bad," she remarked.
"I guess they are…" he replied nervously. The two then began yelling/cheering at the television. Russia sighed
"I wish it were like this more often…" she said.
"Hockey?"
"No–well that too, but I guess I just forgot how much fun other people are…" she said softly, "I guess people still hate me…"
"Eh?"
"Especially after what happened couple of years ago, even my little sister refused to talk to me for few months. No one would talk to me, no one wanted me to come to meetings, no one wanted me in their country…" she lamented, "I spent over a year shunned from everyone…I wish I could take it all back, but boss won't let me. I know my people are happier now and I feel better than before, but it's not worth all of this…"
"Sounds like you," Kumajiro piped up.
"Huh?" Canada looked at the bear. The bear nodded.
"This guy has been really lonely ever since he was a kid. The eyebrow man didn't come to visit very often. So it was mostly me and whoever this guy is. He still doesn't get very many count–"
"Wh-Who are you to talk? You don't even know my name!" Canada laughed, putting his hand over Kumajiro's mouth. "Look, I don't really ag–ow!" He looked at Kumajiro. "Did you bite me?" The bear gave his owner a look. "Bad bear!…listen, I uh, I don't agree at all with what you did, but I can relate to what it's like to be alone like that," he connected, "So here." He took out a business card. "This has my phone number on it."
"Y-You're really giving this to me?" Russia gaped. Canada nodded. She hugged him tightly. Canada felt like he was suffocating, but he didn't have the guts (or the breath) to say anything.
"I don't think it'll work for the world meeting…"
"It worked for the g8…"
"But can I really fool the whole world?"
"You won't know until you try," said Ukraine.
"I'm really not looking forward to this…" Russia said.
"If you want I can ride in the jet with you," offered Belarus.
"My boss knows something is up. I can't," said Lithuania.
"Me neither," agreed Ukraine, "But we can help you at the meeting."
"Thank you," smiled Russia, "You're all such great friends!"
"If something does happen…" began Lithuania.
"Nothing is going to happen. Don't scare her!" Belarus growled.
"I'm just saying that there's a chance that some–" Belarus threw her coffee at him. He yelped.
"Sis!"
"He had it coming!" Lithuania looked around frantically for the bathroom.
"I'll get one of my old shirts," Russia ran towards the staircase.
"Need help with your shirt?" Ukraine offered.
"Hot hot hot hot…"
"Then take off your shirt dumbass!" Belarus scoffed. He scurried to the bathroom. "What a priss…"
"Sister, was that really necessary?" Ukraine asked.
"Yes. Absolutely," she stated.
"He didn't deserve that," she lectured.
"The coffee wasn't even that hot!" she complained, "Fine! If it makes you so upset, I'll go check on him." She stormed off to check on the poor man. She knocked on the door. "You okay?"
"I'll be fine…"
"Sorry about the coffee," she said begrudgingly.
"Oh no, it's fine. I've had worse…"
"Lithuania?"
Belarus turned around. There stood Russia with two shirts.
"Great, now you can check on him," Belarus said leaving. Russia sighed. She was wondering if she was better off traveling alone. She went to the bathroom door.
"Lithuania?" she opened it, "I didn't realize just how big I was before so I got the shirt that you gave me…it's about time that I give it back. I also brought another tshir–" Russia stopped. She stared at the sight before her. Lithuania had no shirt on. He was much more muscular than she had remembered. She found herself unable to stop staring at him. She had always found him to be cute, but there were always better men around. Russia then realized something. Her face drained to white. Lithuania jumped.
"R-Russia?" he was getting creeped out, "Are you okay…if you're worried about the burn, I promise it's not–"
"Oh my God…"
"Sis?" Belarus rushed in the room, "What's–Oh damn…"
"Russia?"
"Oh my God! I'm straight!"
