"Riley…." Maya weakly muttered.
Focus, music. Riley thought to herself.
Going to her library, she knew just what to play.
With her unable to take her eyes off Maya, who was now looking out into a room now about empty, Riley gently took Maya's hand and set down her phone in the other. Maya was seemingly going in her memories and playing them back like a VCR looking somberly into Riley's room, where she felt her entire life was in some ways. She seemed awakened by Rileys guiding touch, who then held on to both of Maya's hands. Though as they continued to venture into the night, Riley was beginning to weaken, about to break at the seams of her sanity that she could actually handle any of this.
Paul McCartney's, "My Love" 1973
Ever so softly out of Riley's speaker, came out those first soulful words after a brief intro,
"And when I go away,"
As they both recognized each word, and what it was together, and that it sealed their fate shut, both girls connected their eyes. Together, acknowledging what it was truly saying, what was actually happening, without them saying another word. In those first four words, each of them said to the other, 'the world is breaking, and we must watch, yet I'm with now.'
"I know my heart can stay with my love."
That line packed a punch, and Riley started to unravel bit by bit, caressing Maya's face as they stood, beginning to innately move together. Maya touched her hand to Rileys holding her cheek, and reached to place her's on Rileys face. Locking eyes, saying these words can't translate, tears could not be held at bay. Walls are not able to stand, and anguish unable to not sting, like magnetics their foreheads were touching, noses brushing as those permanent words seemed to sink like cinder blocks-
"It's Understood,
It's in the hands of my love."
Riley's whole being seemed to shake, hands trembling as they both tightened their hands, moving from Maya's face to her neck. Maya rocking with sobs, cannot lie that this separation will obliterate her from all angles.
"And my love does it good."
Swaying ever so slightly, the girl with the long blonde hair thought of the words Farkle had said to her so long ago, that the 2 of them can't be apart. It shakes the foundation of the whole world. Not just THEIR world, but the entire existence and consciousness of everyone on the green planet. As the sweet McCartneys wo wo wo wo's continued, and the song went on, the subtle frantic movements that come with devastation subsided, and a firm steadiness settled, still not without its sorrow. Kisses that spoke a million words and told the story of their entire history played out in the metrics of that enamoring tune. 4 or so minutes of nothing except their love, and each moment shared, every smile given, every affection and touch.
"My love, oh my love, only my love, does it good to me."
Those last few wo's sending off a message of contentment and peace knowing that the message of tender love was given.
Once the song stopped, they stood together for some time, Maya cracking the silence.
