Chapter 26

It had been a few hours since we had found Lily and we had finished Demon-proofing our Base-camp. I had my doubts it would work, mainly due to the sleeper in our midst, but it would do for now. Speaking of Ava, something about her was bothering me. I hadn't noticed it at first, but something about her Aura was feeling very strange, almost familiar. And it wasn't just the very prevalent Demonic side I could feel. I was currently sitting in a lotus with Lexura curled up in my lap, using my meditation to increase and focus my already impressive senses.

"Pst, hey Tenno."

I opened one eye and was unsurprised to see Yellow Eyes stood in the doorway.

"Hello Azazel," I said, "I was wondering when you'd show up."

"Ah yes, your little friends," said the Demon, "You certainly are an interesting little one. I never would have thought that one of my little projects would become a Devil. This is excellent."

"Yeah, save it," I said, "I already know your little plan and I can already say it won't work."

"Oh? And whys that?" asked the Demon with a grin.

"Because Lucifer is dead," I said, "Well, the original Lucifer is at least. The current one is my Masters older brother."

The Demon just smiled.

"Ah, but thats what they want you Devils to think," he said, "But see, I know different. I know that our Father is still alive. I've spoken to him."

"I guess we'll have to agree to disagree," I said, "But you should know, I have no intention of dancing to your tune."

"Oh, I think you will," said Azazel, "After all, once the Winchesters find out what you are, they won't hesitate to kill you."

I let out a huff. I had my doubts about that. Sure, the Winchesters were tough, but I'd taken down Voban and Kokabiel. After those two monsters, two Morons weren't that much of a threat.

"Well, whatever, I'm putting my money on you to win this," said the Demon.

"Aren't you saying that to all of the others?" I asked.

The Demon just smiled.

My eyes suddenly snapped open. I glanced around the room, noting that Andy and I were the only ones here.

"Where are the others?" I asked.

Andy jumped and spun around.

"Oh, dammit Ren, you scared me," he said, "Ava's vanished, Sam and Jake are out looking for her."

"You could have woken me up," I muttered, getting to my feet and straightening out my back with a crack.

"The others thought it would be better to let you sleep," said Andy.

I rolled my eyes and moved to join Andy at the table. Before I could take more than a step, I felt a surge of dark power that was very familiar.

"Stray Devil!" I gasped, "But where did it…"

"Hehehe, I should have known," said Ava as she stepped into the room, "I guess I wouldn't be able to fool a Devil like you. I must admit, this game has been fun, but now the jig is up."

My eyes widened.

"What the...how in the hell can you be a Stray?" I demanded.

Ava grinned, showing of a mouthful of fangs that would look more at home in a sharks mouth than a Humans.

"Simple, my darling fiancé was one of your kind and he reincarnated me when we got engaged," she said.

"Urg, of course he was," I groaned, "And let me guess, you killed him?"

Ava scoffed.

"Of course I did," she said, "Yellow Eyes gave me a much better deal than being the mate of some low class Devil. All I have to do is take you all out!"

Her voice deepened as she spoke, her body beginning to expand and transform. Her size began to increase dramatically. Her arms expanded into massive, muscular and clawed appendages as four wing-like appendages, six crab-like legs, a large tail, and an eyeless head sprouted from her rapidly mutating body. Another two head-like protuberances with large mouths appeared on either side of her hips. Her Human body was still visible, merged with the chest, with only her head, torso, and proximal arms and thighs visible.

"NOW YOU DIE!" roared the Stray as she shattered the house to kindling with ease.

"Oh fuck me," I muttered.

"WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT THING!?" shrieked Andy.

"A Stray Devil and a powerful one at that," I said, "I'm gonna need you to take a few steps back. PHOENIX JACK!"

Fire erupted around me as my second most powerful armour appeared around me, filling the air with heat and dancing embers.

"Oh? Whats this?" sneered Ava, "Is that a Sacred Gear?"

"Thats right," I said, releasing my cloak and letting it fall open, "Its called Dimensional Armoury and this is the Phoenix Jack Armour. Now, in the name of Rias Gremory, I will turn you into ash!"

I took my stance as emerald green blades of energy appeared in my hands.

Third Person POV, back in Japan a few hours ago

"REN!" shouted Koneko, trying to push through the smoke.

Before she could, the smoke suddenly scattered, leaving nothing but Rens scarf and a crust of yellow dust on the windows and floor.

"What in the world?!" gasped Xenovia, "Where did…?"

"Azazel!" roared Rias, spinning to face the Grigori leader, her eyes blazing red with the Power of Destruction, "What happened, where did Ren go?!"

"I have no idea," said Azazel, apparently not in the least bit intimidated by the enraged Gremory, "But he has my Downfall Dragon Spear, so it shouldn't take long to find him."

"You knew this was going to happen?!" shouted Niko, who looked close to tears at the abrupt disappearance of her brother, "Why didn't you stop it!?"

Azazel just smiled.

THUD!

The Fallen Angel blinked and looked down at Koneko, who had just punched him in the gut. It didn't seem to have actually done anything.

"Where is he?!" she demanded, tears in her eyes, "Where is Ren? Tell me, now!"

Azazel sighed.

"Sorry kid, I truly don't know," he said, "The Demon responsible for this has placed powerful barriers around the location that will take time to break through."

"Cold Oak South Dakota."

Everyone jumped and turned to the new voice. Stood next to the window was a man none of them recognized with short, black hair and grey eyes. He was wearing a dark blue suit and a tan trenchcoat over the top. He was also folding a pair of pure white wings behind his back.

"Whats an Angel doing here?" asked Rias, "Did you have something to do with my Rooks disappearance?"

"No, I did not," said the Angel, "In fact, I would rather not have had to rely on a Devil at all. However, having two individuals we can keep an eye on made locating the battle field a lot easier."

"Oh, so little Sammy got picked up with this lot?" asked Azazel.

"Indeed," said Castiel.

"Alright, enough," snapped Rias, "What are you two talking about and what does it have to do with Ren?"

"Calm down Rias," said a third voice as a circle appeared and Sirzechs teleported into the room.

"B-big brother?!" gasped Rias, "W-what are you doing here?"

"I had a feeling that something like this would happen so I came to make sure there was no misunderstandings," said Sirzechs, "I admit however that I would have liked to have been informed that Ren was one of Yellow Eyes little experiments."

"My apologize, I had no way of contacting you, Lord Lucifer," said Castiel.

"Will someone please tell us whats going on!" shouted Niko, who was trying to hold back Koneko who looked on the verge of pouncing on one of the Angels and beating some answers out of them.

"Alright, the Demons are up to something," said Sirzechs.

"Demons?" asked Xenovia, "I thought we were Demons?"

"Not exactly," said Azazel, "See, Devils were created to be the armed forces of the original Satans, but before you came into being, Lucifer had already made something else."

"The crime he committed to get kicked out of Heaven was the corruption of a Human Soul," said Castiel, "Back when Humans first emerged and God ordered us to love them, Lucifer attempted to prove that they were weak and corrupt by twisting the soul of one of them into the First Demon. For that he was banished, along with the four who attempted to defend him, becoming the First of the Fallen. The Demons dwell in the Burning Hell, turning those who find themselves there into more of their kind. They worship Lucifer as a god and are attempting to raise what they believe to be their creator."

"What does Ren have to do with this?" asked Rias.

"He is one of the children that were chosen to be the leaders of Hells forces," said Sirzechs, "There are a number of them around the world, all tainted with Demon Blood that grants them certain abilities. Over the past few months, the Yellow Eyed Demon behind it all has been bringing his experiments to a battleground to fight to the death and decide who's the strongest. This batch is the last of them."

"So basically, Rens currently in a fight for his life?" asked Akeno, looking vaguely perturbed.

And for her, that was the equivalent of being terrified. Or angry.

"Unlikely," said Azazel, "As powerful as the Children may be compared with Humans, Ren is much more powerful than any of them, which is why I didn't stop it. If I thought there was any danger, I wouldn't have let him be taken."

There was a moment's silence.

"You said Cold Oak, correct?" asked Sirzechs at length, turning to Castiel, "Thats in America."

"Correct," said the Angel.

Koneko leaped to her feet.

"Then lets go!" said the Rook, "We know where he is, we should go help him!"

"Theres no point," said Sirzechs, holding up his hand to forstal Rias and her friends protests, "As efficient as our teleporting is, it would still take some time before we arrived. By that point, the battle would likely be over. We will go and collect Ren, but we won't be on time to help him."

"I wouldn't worry about that," said Castiel, "I believe that Lord Michael has already sent someone to aid him."

"Who?" asked Rias.

Cold Oak, Ren's POV

CRASH!

"OK, that hurt," I muttered, prising myself from the me shaped dent in the ground.

I could now safely say that Ava was strong, much stronger than Viser. She'd just punted me through three buildings after I made the mistake of getting to close. Not only was she strong, she was also fast, despite her size.

"I'VE GOT YOU!" roared Ava.

I rolled out of the way and to my feet, leaping out of the way as the Stray came crashing down where I had been laying a moment ago and lashed out with her claws.

"Let me guess, you were a Queen," I said.

"Right you are," sneered Ava, "And that means that a pathetic Rook like you stands no chance!"

I spun and shot higher, avoiding her claws and wings as she barreled towards me. I summoned my blades again and sliced off one of her fingers. A blast of fire pushed me out of the way of her jaw as she tried to bite me. I landed on top of the bell and spread my cloak, summoning an armory's worth of blazing swords.

"Take this!" I said, launching the weapons at Ava.

"Worthless!" she roared, sweeping them aside with no apparent problem.

She inhaled, green light gathering in her mouths, before she let out a roar and unleashed a massive beam of light at me.

"Why can I never get an easy fight?" I moaned, jumping out of the way of the attack.

I crossed my arms over my chest and unleashed a wave of fire missiles at her in retaliation, only for them to be about as much use as flicking paper at her.

"God fucking damn it, I don't want to have to resort to my Balance Breaker again!" I yelled as I flipped over another beam and fired a massive ball of fire at the Stray.

"What the hell is...WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!" shouted Jake as he and Sam rounded the corner.

"Aw crap, thats all I need," I groaned as Ava turned her attention on the two Humans.

"Heh, perfect!" growled Ava, "All this chasing around is making me hungry!"

She broke off from her attack on me in favor of charging Sam and Jake.

"OH NO YOU DON'T!" I roared, taking off after her.

Unfortunately, despite my speed, she was far enough ahead that there was no way I could catch up to her before she attacked Sam and Jake and most of my powers had already proven to be ineffective at best. It looked like I had no choice but to…

"BEGONE DEMON!"

Before I could finish the thought, or activate my Balance Breaker, a bolt of white light suddenly shot out of the sky and slammed into Ava's back, slicing off one of her wings and sending her tumbling into a nearby building.

"What the hell…" I muttered, turning to face the direction of the sudden attack.

For a moment, I couldn't see anything but brilliant light, before it faded enough for me to see a figure descending from on-high surrounded by white feathers. For a moment, I thought it was Castiel again, but the feminine figure I could see quickly put a stop to that line of thought. A black unitard, long pigtails, a katana that was practically radiating Holy Power in one hand and a white Spear of Light in the other, all of this added together equaled…

"Hey Ren, long time no see," said Irina as she landed lightly on a nearby roof, "Need a hand?"

And with that, I'm done. Sorry for the cliffhanger, but that was a good place to end with a decent to be continued.

So, Ava was a Devil this whole time and is now a (very powerful) Stray, mostly due to Demon Blood enhancements. Her form is based on Rosemary's Awakened Form from Claymore.

The bosses of each Faction know exactly whats going on, although Lucifer wasn't made aware of the fact that Ren would likely get nabbed. None of them really want the Demons to get an upper hand.

Irina's back and shes an Angel now! This should be fun, especially when Ren's friends show up.

And with that, I'm done. Please leave a review!
