Chapter 27

"I-Irina, is that you?!" I asked, "You're...an Angel."

Irina grinned and struck a pose.

"Yep, I'm Lord Michael's Ace!" she said, "He sent me to help you out if you needed it. And judging from that, you do."

"Eh, thanks, I guess," I said.

The collapsed building with Ava underneath shook slightly. Irina and I immediately snapped back into focus, ready for battle.

"We'll have to catch up later," I said.

"Yep, first we need to defeat this Demon," said Irina.

"Technically, shes a Stray, but I guess Demon will do," I said.

I glanced back and saw that Andy had joined Sam and Jake and the three remaining Humans were staring at Irina and I in shock and no small amount of awe.

"Don't worry about them," said Irina, "Just use the Spear Azazel gave you to protect them."

I blinked and pulled out the spear.

"Oh yeah, this thing can create barriers," I said, "I'd forgotten about that."

Irina gave me a funny look, which I ignored. I threw the Artificial Sacred Gear down towards where the others were stood. It stuck in the ground in front of them where the gem glowed purple and a barrier sprang up around them.

"Stay within the bubble," I called, "Otherwise, I can't promise that you won't get pulled into this fight!"

I dispersed my armour and took a ready stance.

"Here we go," I said, "Balance Breaker: Zero Gear!"

Blue light erupted around me as my Balance Breaker activated. I drew my sword and readied myself, floating up to join Irina.

"I'M THROUGH WITH PLAYING AROUND!" roared Ava as she abruptly burst out of the pile of wood in a burst of green energy, "YOU'RE DEAD!"

All three heads fired a massive beam of green at us. I stepped in front of Irina and blocked the beam with my sword, cutting it in half with no problem.

"What the…?" she said once the beam cleared.

"Heh, your easy run is done," I said, "Time to slice you into ribbons."

"JUST YOU TRY IT!" roared Ava, "I DON'T CARE WHO YOU ARE OR WHAT POWERS YOU HAVE, YOU CANNOT DEFEAT ME!"

I raised an eyebrow and glanced at Irina.

"Arrogant little critter, isn't she?" I said.

"Yep, lets teach her to fear God!" said the Angel, raising her sword.

"I'll stick with Lucifer thanks, but yeah, lets cream her," I said.

We both flapped our wings and vanished. Ava looked confused for a moment, before both her arms and her remaining wings fell off, leaving steaming stumps in their place, cauterized either by Excalibur or my energy sword. Irina and I reappeared behind the Stray as it let out a roar of pain and fell to its knees.

"Y-you bastards," it hissed, "I'll kill you…"

I smirked and opened my hand, summoning my gun.

"Lets blow her away," I said, charging the weapon.

"Lets," said Irina, summoning a large bow of light.

Both our weapons charged rapidly.

"Bang," I said.

Green and white energy shot out and turned the top half of Ava into ash. The lower half slowly collapsed, dissolving as it did into whatever it is that makes up Devils and Angels.

"Well, that was interesting," I said, allowing my Balance Breaker to fade.

"It was all thanks to Gods will!" said Irina, clasping her hands, "May he bless us this day!"

"GAH!"

I nearly fell out of the sky as a metaphorical axe slammed into my brain.

"IRINA, NO BLESSING DEVILS!" I shouted as I righted myself.

"Oh, sorry, force of habit," said the Angel, looking sheepish.

"Fucking Angels," I muttered as I swooped down to where the others were staring through the bubble, wide eyed and gaping.

I landed lightly in front of them and retrieved the Artificial Sacred Gear.

"Are you guys…" I started to ask as I stood up, only to be cut off as a knife broke against my chest.

Sam took a few steps back, looking surprised.

"What the hell are you?" demanded the Hunter, "No Human can do that!"

"True," I said, "I guess this is as good a time as any to introduce myself properly."

"W-whats that supposed to mean?" asked Andy.

I grinned and opened my wings again.

"I'm a Devil," I said, "Not a Demon, a Devil. And yes, there is a difference."

Sam immediately jumped back and swung his iron poker at me. It did fuck all.

"Will you please stop that?" I said as Sam eyed the now bent poker, "I already said I'm not a Demon."

"Everything ok here Ren?" asked Irina as she dropped down next to me.

"Not really, Paranoid Patty keeps trying to hit me with iron," I said.

"Oh, hes just trying to do Gods work and deal with you Devils!" chirped the Angel.

"Thanks Irina," I grumbled, "But you do know the big guys dead, right?"

"Yep, but that doesn't matter!" said Irina, "Lord Michael serves as God now and besides, someones death doesn't make their teachings meaningless."

"I would find that admirable if it wasn't so creepy," I said.

"Wait, are you an Angel?" asked Sam, looking at Irina with something between awe and disbelief in his eyes.

"Yep, sure am," said Irina, "Irina Shidou, Lord Michaels Ace, nice ta meet ya Sam!"

"You know who I am?" asked Sam, sounding surprised.

"Seems like all the higher ups have been keeping an eye on us," I said, "Speaking of Michael, can we expect someone to come get us any time soon?"

"Yep, they should be here soon," said Irina.

"Well, thats a relief," I said, "I just hope they get here before the other Winchester. I don't wanna face full of shotgun."

Sam looked like he was going to say something, but before he could, Andy suddenly let out a strangled yell. We all spun around in time to see Jake pulling a knife out of the other Psychics back, allowing the now bleeding Andy to slump to the ground.

"What are you doing?!" demanded Sam.

"Sorry Sam, but Yellow Eyes came to me," said Jake, "He told me that only one of us is getting out of here alive."

I raised an eyebrow.

"You really think you can kill me?" I asked.

Jake scoffed.

"Not a chance, but he said that you don't matter. Your a Devil, so you can't be the one to do what he wants."

"Fair enough. Next question."

My glare hardened as I summoned a fireball.

"Do you honestly think I'm going to let you get away?"

Jake smirked.

"He said you'd say that," he said, "So he sent someone to keep you busy."

"YAH!"

I was forced to jump back as something suddenly dropped out of the sky and took a swipe at me with a Sword of Light.

"Hello again Scummy Devil!" yelled Freed Sellzen.

"The hell? What's the Shitty Priest doing here?!" I snarled, glaring at Freed, "Why would you want to work for a Demon?!"

"Oh, I'm not working for Yellow Eyes," sneered Freed, "In fact, once we're done here, I'm gonna slice him into sausage meat! However, my new employer wants him to succeed and I wanted another crack at Angel Girl, so I agreed to the job."

"You don't honestly think you can take both of us without Excalibur?" said Irina, narrowing her eyes at the Heretic Priest.

"I'm not worried," said Freed, "The Boss didn't send me alone after all."

I was about to ask what the hell he was talking about, but before I could, a loud, deep and very familiar voice stopped me in my tracks, my eyes widening in horror.

"We are the servants of god, and the messengers of his justice. We are the instruments of his divine wrath on Earth. We are called upon to cleanse his Kingdom bringing Ash from the Flesh of thine enemies. Praise to our Lord!"

I swallowed and turned to the source where he was standing atop the church, silhouetted against the setting sun that reflected off his bayonets, crucifix and glasses.

"Hello again Monster," said Alexander Anderson, "Its been a very long time."

I gritted my teeth.

"You again," I hissed.

Anderson grinned and hopped down from his perch.

"Our last battle was interrupted by the arrival of your little friends," said Anderson, "This time there won't be anything to stop me from killing you!"

He charged, swinging his Bayonets at my head and gut, aiming to decapitate and eviscerate me in one attack. He was faster than last time we fought, but I wasn't the same weak imp I was last time either. I caught the weapons.

"What?!" gasped Anderson, "How did you…?"

"Heh, you don't actually think I was the same as last time, did you?" I asked, "I defeated Kokabiel and Voban, a Leader Class Fallen Angel and a Demon King, you really think a Human is a match for me?"

Fire erupted around me, rapidly forming into my Phoenix Knight armour. A blast of fire erupted from my bracers, pushing my arms forwards so fast I snapped Andersons weapons and slammed both fists into his chest with the force of a bullet train, sending him hurtling back through the Church. Before he could hit the ground, I shot forwards on my flaming skates, the blades on my gauntlets snapping out and sliced off both his arms, before slamming my foot into his chest and slamming him into the earth with enough force to drive him into a crater. A second stomp drove him deeper and powderized his ribs. A third turned his organs to mush and a fourth nearly sliced him in half. I jumped out of the crater and switched to my Jack armour, charging my cape with a huge amount of magic and unleashed a firestorm on the crater hot enough to instantly turn the wood to ash and boil away the molten metal.

"That should do it," I said, letting my armour disperse, "No one could survive that heat."

I turned away from the firestorm and moved to rejoin the others so I could turn Jake into ash. Before I could, a massive pulse of power erupted from within the fire. I spun around, wide eyed, as the ground began to shake and dark gold energy began to pore out of the crater.

"AHAHAHAHAH, EXCELLENT!" roared Anderson as he slowly lifted out of the crater looking none the worse for ware, "ITS BEEN FAR TOO LONG SINCE I'VE BEEN PUSHED!"

"T-thats impossible!" I gasped, "That fire was hotter than the sun! How in the world did you survive?!"

"I HAVE THE PROTECTION OF GOD!" roared Anderson, "A FILTHY DEVIL CAN NEVER KILL ME! NOW, LOOK UPON GODS FURY AND TREMBLE! AWAKEN, HELENA'S NAIL, TAKE MY BODY AND DO WITH IT AS YOU WILL TO SMITE THE ENEMIES OF GOD!"

The ground shook harder and cracked open as the glow around Anderson increased.

"W-what the…?" I muttered, shielding my face from with wind as it began to swirl around the Psycho Priest, "This feeling...A Balance Breaker? I didn't even know Anderson had a Sacred Gear!"

Then again, it did make a certain amount of sense. That was probably the source of his regeneration. I shook my head and readied myself. I'd need all my power for this.

"Balance…!" I started, only to pause as I felt something catch inside me, "What the… Oh, don't tell me…"

"Sorry Master, but your body can't take any more of your Balance Breaker," said Zero's voice, "And this isn't a case of push and it'll work. If you push it, your body will break down in moments."

"But I barely had it active for a minute!" I protested as Anderson let out a yell and started sprouting thorny vines out of his body, "Why the fuck can't I use it again?!"

"It doesn't work like that," said Zero, "The Zero Gear focuses all the power of your Dimensional Armoury into one Armour, forcing it into overdrive. When you deactivate it, no matter how long or short it was active, it needs to cool down before it can be used again."

"How long?" I asked.

"Three hours."

"WHAT?!"

I looked up at Anderson, who was now rapidly expanding into what looked like a gigantic thorn bush shaped like a man with Anderson where the heart would be.

"I can't fight that thing with any of my armours!" I protested.

"Actually, thats not entirely true," said Zero.

"What?"

"Remember what Azazel said? The Dimensional Armoury holds the spirit of the Phoenix King and the three Phoenix Armours are its representation. You have only accessed two of them. The Phoenix King can fight that thing easily."

"But I have no idea what the King Armour is!" I protested, "And even if I did, I don't know how to summon it."

"Have you forgotten that the Sacred Gear responds to you?" asked Zero, "Ask and thou shalt receive."

"Really?" I asked in surprise, before I was forced to jump out of the way of a massive, spiky fist, "Oh to hell with it, whats the worst that could happen? PHOENIX KING, I CALL TO YOU!"

I felt something stir deep inside my soul, before a massive surge of power erupted, blasting me into the sky.

"The hell?!" I gasped as I abruptly came to a stop at an equal level to Anderson's body.

I looked around and saw that I was surrounded by a glowing red aura in the shape of a massive bird. Then, something happened. At the very bottom of the birds tail, the air seemed to ripple with heat, before something emerged from the ripple. It was a foot. Following the foot was a leg. The rest of the body followed as a massive, red and gold being emerged from the apparent portal.

It was the same size as Andersons Balance Breaker, easily topping 10 stories, with thick, red armour with golden decorations. Its boots had golden bird shaped decorations, with the head forming the knee guard and the wings extending past the legs making it appear that the monstrous construct had winged heels. Its massive breast plate had a similar decorations, as did the right shoulder pad. The right shoulder was red with the Gremory family crest picked out in black, while the gauntlets had a similar design to the boots. Emerging from its shoulders was a long, black cape with a red inline and a gold trim. Finally, the helmet resembled that of a Knights with the visor being yet another golden bird. The whole thing resembled the armour of a Space Marine and the massive sword with wing shaped guard and equally massive gun in its hands didn't help.

"Er, how am I supposed to…" I started, before the chest plate opened and I was sucked inside.

I landed in a dark chamber in a sitting position, before my surroundings lit up with screens showing me a 360 degree view and a set of controls.

"Really? Its a mecha?" I grumbled.

"Quit complaining," said Zero as his Biometal form appeared next to me, "This thing is meant for fighting massive enemies, just like the Knight is meant for close quarters and the Jack is meant for Magic. I will be serving as your assistant while piloting the Phoenix King."

I sighed.

"Fine, whatever," I muttered, before grinning and grabbing the controls, "I always wanted to be a mech pilot when I was a kid, so lets go nuts."

"Very impressive Monster," said Anderson, "But worthless. You cannot hope to defeat me."

"We'll see," I said, shifting the Mech into a ready stance, "Bring it on!"

Anderson charged. I matched the charge and our fists slammed into each other, creating a massive shockwave.

And there we go, done. So, Sam reacted as expected, Jakes killing the other Humans and Freed and Anderson are back.

I know that the Monster of God isnt a giant, but it is here, simply because I really wanted to do a mech fight for some reason.

The Phoenix King is a giant mech based on Space Marine armour. Its armed with a Power Sword and Plasma Gun. Technically its more powerful than the Zero Gear, but its not really meant for fighting anything smaller than a house.

Next time, Monster of God vs the Phoenix King. Should be fun. Until then, please leave a review!
