The Wolf who fell in Love with Red Riding Hood

Creatures of the Dark

Once upon a time, there lived a man. He wasn't like all the other people in the village. He was different. He didn't fear the things the villagers feared. He didn't fear wolves. That man wished that were peace amongst the two creatures; humans and wolves.

That man had a companion, a human companion. That companion was amazed at his friend's fearlessness. But soon that admiration grew to envy then to pure hatred. And soon, that companion became the man's nemesis. However, the man knew none of it.

"If only, if only I prove that his theory is wrong," that once of a companion muttered, "Prove that wolves are dangerous."

One day, a young lady approached him. "I can help you defeat the one you loathe and prove him wrong," she declared. "Drink this vile and your wish will be granted."

He did so. Soon he's body changed. His nails grew until they're like claws. A muzzle grew from his face. The bones of his limbs grew until they're at equal length. A thin layer of hair grew all over his body. When the transformation ended, he found that he had changed into a wolf-like being.

"It's up to you whether you'll cower over your appearance or use it to your advantage," smirked the lady, "You're now a creature of the dark; a werewolf."

When she left, the creature, who was once of a man, had an idea. He'll attack the person he hated most.

The clock was ticking ominously loud. Rin lay in her bed, staring at the ceiling of her bedroom. Shadows of leafy tree branches were cast on the ceiling, providing little amusement to Little Red Riding Hood.

She heard the hands of the old clock move and turned her head to glance at the time piece. Thirty minutes past ten, it read. Rin heaved a sigh. Her mother insisted that she stay in bed for the whole day so she'd recover more quickly. Rin slowly moved parts of her body. It ached.

Rin closed her eyes and tried to invite sleep back to her. Unfortunately, she had been sleeping all day so she felt wide awake. She let out a sigh, "This is useless," she muttered.

Suddenly there was the sound of a twig snapping outside her window. Rin flinched and turned her head to face in the direction. The snapping noise continued, drawing closer and closer…

Snap…Snap… SNAP…

Suddenly a fox's furry face popped up. It had its front paws on her window sill, curiously sniffing the surrounding air. Then it disappeared, taking the snapping sound with it.

Rin realised she was holding her breath and a cold sweat had creep up onto her. Her adrenaline was racing too. When all was quiet, she exhales.

That all felt too familiar… Like when that creature attacked me…

Flashes of that awful moments lit Rin's mind and she shuddered, forcing the memory away. Chills ran up her spine.

I don't know why…but now that I think about that creature…I feel that it's not the last time I'll be seeing it…

A drop of green liquid fell from a glass dripper and onto the tuft of brown fur. Zatsune smiled as she watched the hair react to the chemicals and potions. It fizzled and crackled like a fire coming to life.

"That's it, my creature of the dark," she whispered, "Rise up again."

Rui patted Rei's forehead with a wet cloth. Feeling the dampness on his burning skin, Rei weakly opened his eyes.

"Sorry to disturb your sleep," she said with a small smile. The glow of candlelight caused her eyes to give a soft glow, making her appear more angelic.

Rei shook his head, "You didn't," he responded. There was a pause. "So Rin is injured?" he quietly whispered.

The wet cloth stopped on his cheek as Rui's body froze. "You heard…?" she softy uttered.

Rei gave a weak nod.

"It looks as if those two…are somewhat connected," he muttered, "I mean, Len first met Rin's father now he met Rin herself. And they hold almost the same personalities too."

Rui's eyes widened, "You mean…they could be fated to meet?"

"Who knows, who knows…," Rei mumbled as his eyes draws to a close.

Rui finished wiping his sweaty and washed the cloth with a thoughtful mind. Yes, no one knows what will happen to the characters, except for the narrator…and the person who tampers with the story…

An eerie smoke billowed out of the glass beaker and filled the dark cave. An unsettling light illuminated from inside the glass walls and a raspy voice groaned and growled. Zatsune stood back and merely watched as the smoke started to take shape. It twisted and turn as if something living was trying to break free.

Suddenly the outline of menacing claws could be seen and a muzzle holding long fangs formed. Then the smoke was cleared and the hideous creature stood in the middle of the cold, dark cave. It looked around with its bloodshot eyes and its gaze settled on Zatsune.

"Welcome back to the world of the living," Zatsune greeted holding her arms out as a warm gesture.

The creature's eyes suddenly flashed red and it sprang forward at the witch with astonishing speed. In the few seconds, it had its clawed hands around Zatsune's pale neck, holding her up high. She clasped its hand with her own, trying to ease the increasing pressure around her throat.

"You…!" hissed the creature, "You killed me!" Its grip tightened and a gleam of dark red trickled down Zatsune's white skin as its claws started to pierce into her skin.

"I…I didn't," she gasped.

"You lie!" it growled, furiously shaking her, "You sent that blasted hunter to kill me!"

Zatsune quickly gasp a breath of oxygen before replying. "You interfered! You interfered too early!"

"That's no excuse!" it roared and applied more pressure, making access to oxygen more and more difficult. Zatsune's gasps became more and more strangled and rasp.

Suddenly the creature felt something cold and hard on its own neck; a sharp edge of a steel dagger.

"Let her go. Now."

It was Zeito who had returned from an errand. His crimson red eyes had hardened and become cold and had a ruthless look in them. "I'll say it again, let her go." His voice was soft, dangerously soft.

The creature froze. Then slowly loosened its grip and Zatsune fell to the ground, gulping mouthfuls of blessed air. The hunter immediately dashed to her side.

"Zatsune, are you alright?!" he cried.

She held her bleeding neck with a weak, trembling hand and nodded. Zeito wrapped an arm around Zatsune and gave her shoulder a little squeeze.

"So why did you revive me?" it growled.

Zatsune looked up with a smile, "I need you to destroy a wolf."

A cold wind blew causing Len's fur to stand at the back of his neck. He shivered and huddled his body into a ball, in a desperate attempt to bring warmth back. Flashes of that horrible night lit Len's mind. The image of the creature was strangely vivid which sends more chills down Len's spine. He then lifted his muzzle high in the air.

"A storm is brewing," he muttered.

The sound of falling rain stirred Rin up. She must have somehow fallen asleep since now she found herself opening her aquamarine eyes. Rin forced herself to sit up. Her head felt as if someone had poured water into it and not it was sloshing around.

Rin placed her feet on the hard wooden floor and stood. Her legs nearly buckled under her weight but she made herself concentrate so she wouldn't fall. Her dainty hand trailed along the wall, providing support for the staggering girl.

She wondered into the kitchen. The heart of the household was dimly lit with the grey light from outside. Rin walked over to the kitchen bench and eyed the fruit bowel with hungry yet tired eyes. Suddenly she plucked an orange from its place and began to peel it. Once the fruit was exposed, she popped the moist flesh into her mouth. Rin sighed in relief as the citrus taste burst in her mouth. She hadn't eaten anything expect for plain rice porridge.

Once the orange was gobbled up, Little Red Riding Hood glanced around. It was quiet. Too quiet. Too quiet for a household that sheltered two residents. Rin quickly turn to the clock. The timepiece's hands read a quarter to eleven. Surely her mother would be about at this time.

"Mother?" called Rin.

No answer.

"Mother?" she tried again, this time a bit more loudly.

Silence.

"Mother!" cried Rin as she swiftly made her way to the master bedroom. Her voice started to ring of concern and her pulse quickened slightly.

The door was opened and the aquamarine eyes darted around. The bed was empty and made. She hurried to the bathroom. Everything was organized and tidy but empty as well.

Rin's breathing was now quickening as she stumbled around the house, constantly crying out for her mum while looking around for anything human life. Finally, she stopped at the front of the house. Her mother's shoes were nowhere to be seen. This means she was out but… Rin stared through the window. Raindrops raced down the glass…in this weather?

The soft earth sank under the weight of Len's boots each time he set his foot down. He had pulled his hood over his head, to shelter his sensitive ears from falling drops of water. The raindrops collected and dripped down from the edge of his hood.

His sharp azure eyes seem to glow in the grey light as they scanned the forest area, in search for shelter. He decided to take refuge underneath a large oak tree. Len rubbed his clawed hands on arms for warmth.

He looked up and saw a pair of birds huddled together in the branches. Their fluffed up their feathers, making themselves look much bigger and somewhat cute. A squirrel couple darted along the slink wet branches before settling in a nook then wrapped their bushy tails around one another.

Len shivered as wet drops landed on his face. They all have someone… Someone to provide warmth to them.

Suddenly a flash of golden caught Len's attention from the corner of his eye. He quickly brought his gaze down from the treetops. There in a midst of the rain, was a woman that wore a water-proof coat. Her long blonde hair clung to her face in wet strands.

Isn't that…?

Rin's mother was looking around, her green eyes filled with nervousness and anxiety. She didn't spot Len who stood underneath the oak and the rain made ones' vision unclear.

What is she doing here in this weather?

"Hello?" he heard her call, "Are you there, young boy?"

Len was slightly surprised once he heard the term 'young boy'. Is she…looking for me?

"Hello? The boy whose part wolf…are you there?"

Before Len could voice a reply, another voice spoke. "I'm here." It sounded slightly husky but the speaker is trying to hide that fact. The unaware woman started to gingerly walk towards the voice.

"Wai-" before Len could properly call out a warning; he heard something that only canine ears could pick up.

"Yes pitiful human…Come to your end…"

Len felt his entire body stiffened and the blood in his veins froze. It can't be… Not that…

"MOTHER?! WHERE ARE YOU?!"

Rin had been racing around the rain ridden town, in search of her mother. Her hair was dripping wet and her red hood clung to her persistently. She had been running around town despite protests from her still sore body.

The young girl had been darting around houses, questioning the residents if they had seen her mother. Her search had bore no fruits.

Rin had asked Neru but she shook her head. Miku said she saw her in the markets early in the morning but that was all. Finally Meiko was able to give her a lead.

"Hmmm…your ma? Well, I was helping the squirts carry wood back to our house when I thought I saw her on the forest path."

Rin suppressed a gasp. Mother went in the forest? But she hasn't been there since… The red clothed girl was now facing the woods. Hang on Mother, I'm coming.

The dim grey light made them appear more menacing. It now looked like the woods described in fairytales but not the ones with cheery dwarfs and sweet grannies, but ones which hides creatures of the dark.

The widow with long blonde hair felt her heart beating quickly. To be honest, she didn't know why she came to this dreaded place...the place where her dear beloved had died.

But she remembered what she had heard back at the house and took a deep breath. Words from long ago now echoed in her mind.

"Have no fear, love. Once these animals become use to you and have no fear in you, they begin to trust you."

The image of the wolf flashed in her mind; the one where he carried her nearly dead daughter on its back, its pleading and desperate eyes as it begs her to treat Rin.

She drew another breath to calm her pulse.

"Hello?" she called, "Are you there, young boy?"

The sound of falling rain answered her. She tried again.

"Hello? The boy whose part wolf…are you there?"

Then a soft voice answered her, "I'm here."

Time to settle this matter, she told herself as she walked over to where she heard the voice. She could have sworn she heard another voice trying to call out but that must have been the rain.

Suddenly the squirrels fled from their spot into a hollow in the truck. The birds quickly took flight to another tree much safer than this one. For all the forest animals and any living creature had heard a scream of terror.

Rei's eyes flew open in fright. He looked around to see Rui standing by the window. Her body seems as if it had become stone.

"Rui..?" he rasped, "Rui, what's wrong?"

The swan turned. Her face was pale and filled with fright. "A…A scream," she stammered, "I heard…a scream."

Now it was Rei's turn to turn pale.

Leather boots thumped on the soft earth as they ran. Rin's breathing came out as pants. Her sore joints screamed in pain but she paid no heed to it. She heard it; the bloodcurdling scream. And she knew the voice too well.

It was her mother.

In her damp hand, she gripped the hilt of her small dagger tightly. Suddenly she heard a voice that she had yearn so much to hear ever since she was injured.

"Rin!" Len raced up to her.

"Len?" she gasped. Had he grown taller since she last saw him? Or was it the rain that's just playing tricks on her? Her heart was pounding with joy now but her mind quickly scolded for there was more pressing matters to think about.

"Quick! It's your mother! I saw her!" he took her hand into his. Rin's heart fluttered even more for unknown reasons. His hand…she didn't take notice of the claws now, unlike the first time they met, but she did notice the warmth in them against her cold ones.

The words, "She's in danger!" snapped her back to reality. Rin shook her head clearing the thoughts away. "Take me to her!" she demanded.

Len gave her a sharp nod and ran hand in hand, "This way!"

There they saw a hideous creature with hardly any hair on their bony almost human-like figure but the wolf features stuck out. It was the same creature that had attacked Rin. It had its claws extended and raised, ready to strike the fallen body of a terrified woman.

Len instantly leapt into action, letting go of Rin's hand and charging at the beast. He tackled it down before it could harm Rin's mother.

"Mother!" cried Rin as she raced to the gasping mother and gave her a hug. "Are you ok?"

"I-I'm fine…," her mother trembled underneath Rin's arms. She then turn and recognized Len in combat with the creature and fell silent.

Suddenly a cry of pain made Rin turn to see the creature swiping Len away and he collied into a tree truck.

"Len!" she gasped.

Rin gave a reassuring kiss on her mother's wet cheeks and stood. She gripped her dagger tightly and unsheathed it then ran towards the horrid thing.

It had grabbed Len by his shirt collar and raised a clawed hand to him. Rin suddenly plunged her dagger deep into its back. It screamed and dropped Len. Rin pulled her weapon out and a fountain of red followed.

The creature turned to her with hateful eyes. "You…," it hissed, "You look exactly like him!"

Rin took a step back, blinking in confusion. Him?

"The person I hate so much!" it roared and charged towards her. Rin bit down her lip and readied her knife. As the creature approached closer, she felt her heart dropped. A small dagger against a beast this big..?

But Len had jumped onto its shoulders and started to claw at its face. A river of blood was flowing down from his forehead to chin. The creature roared in rage and roughly grabbed Len's head. He clenched his teeth and fangs together, ignoring the pain and willing himself to not let go. More blood flowed as he felt the creature's claw digging into his skull.

Suddenly he felt his claws swiped something soft and the creature gave another howl of pain. Len had ripped one of its eyes. It grabbed the back of Len's neck and threw him off. Len yelped as he landed heavily.

The creature was screaming and howling as it held its face in its horrible hands. Rin took this chance to run up and jump then thrusting her small knife into its chest. The screaming was suddenly cut off and the beast started to fall back.

Rin withdrew her dagger and stumbled away from the fallen body. Blood mixed with rainwater as the trickled down from the creature's chest, eye and back.

Little Red Riding Hood stared. A creature of the dark had finally met its deserved end.

"Rin, are you ok?" her mother called as she got up on her feet. Suddenly Rin's mind snapped back to Len and she ripped her eyes away from the dead body to the bloody heap.

Len was lying on his back, not moving a muscle. Multiple rivers of blood ran down from his head.

"Len! No Len!" sobbed Rin as she crouched by his side.

Her mother joined her, "He landed pretty heavily when that thing threw him off," she observed. She tentatively lifted Len's head. He made no movement. "He suffered some spinal and head injuries," she rasped.

"W-Will he…," Rin sobbed.

"We need medical help quickly," her mother stated.

Rin tried to think. Where could they get help out here? She quickly thought of her grandmother, Meiko and Rei. They lived in the forest. She stood up.

"Mother take care of Len!" she cried, "I'm going to find help!"

Her mother gave her a nod and Rin raced away. The protests of her sore body died down and she felt a new energy filling her.

What is this feeling?

Len lied in a bed with a giant pillow supporting his head and warm blankets tucked to his chin. He had bandages wrapped around his head and neck.

"How's Lenny doing?" Meiko asked as she walked in.

Rin didn't take her eye off Len. "He hasn't woken up…," she softly answered.

Meiko watched her friend. Ever since Rin frantically knocked on her door and begged her to bring her seven 'squirts' to help Len, she's been quiet. Meiko sighed at the silence and walked out, leaving Rin with Len.

"How is she?" Rin's mother inquired when Meiko walked down to the living room.

"The same," Meiko sighed, "Dead quiet. Excuse the pun."

Rin's mother made no comment.

The flame of the candle flickered but that was the only movement in the room where Rin sat. She remembered the times when she rescued him. She cringed at the memories when they first met and the many times where Len had saved her.

Rin brushed his messy fringe out of his face. She then gently stroked his ears. The memory of her first doing that, when he was still a wolf, came back to her. Rin then slowly reached out and took Len's hand in hers. They were slightly bigger than hers and she paid no heed to his claws. The warmth she had felt before was slowly fading away.

Tears suddenly pricked her eyes as she rested her forehead against their hands. "Please... Please be alive…," she softly begged.

A man full of hatred has met his end but for a price of that a wolf's life is on the line. How will the witch react to another failure? This story is getting more and more amusing…

Well, that's it... I would like some more ideas guys, sorry for constantly requesting that...
