Chapter 11 – Last Game
The Karasuno volley club adviser, Takeda sensei, welcomes the SPR's arrival.
"Welcome to our school Shibuya-san" He walk towards Lin, and reached his hand for a handshake.
Daichi immediately whispered "That's not him. That grumpy-looking twin is Shibuya Kazuya"
Takeda sensei blush from his embarrassment, "I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry" he apologetically bowed. He walks to Naru "Welcome Shibuya-san" Naru bowed to the teacher and asked to guide them to the said gym. Daichi open the gym's door and see the team members who are still practicing.
"Rolling... Thunder... Again!"
They heard the short guy yelled as he rolled over to save the ball. Both Gene and Mai laugh.
"That was a normal rolling receive right?" Mai asked to the captain beside her
Daichi smiled apologetically "I'm sorry, our libero have an extreme energy" He clapped his hand to get their attention "Everyone, gather" all of the members gathered in front.
"The SPR are here to investigate the strange happenings in our gym. Please, don't get in there way and if they need our assistance, please cooperate." Takeda sensei instructed them
All of them bowed "Thank you for coming, and please help us"
"We will do our best. As of now, continue your practice" Naru instructed.
They are done setting up the shelves for their base, when Naru asked Mai to come with him.
"Where are we going?" Mai asked when they are walking in the school building
"To the library"
They entered the library and Naru explained his purpose at the librarian, then he guided them to the newspaper section.
"Are we looking for a death case?" She know it's obvious, but ask him anyway.
"Yes. Since those ghosts are from this school, I'm sure they will keep a copy about their accident" He answered as he read the paper page by page.
"Ah! Here it is!" Mai informed Naru. He walk towards Mai and silently read the article dated three years ago.
Two students from Kasasuno High School, was hit by a car while going to Sendai City Gymnasium for the Finals in Inter High tournament. The students Yodami Jin (Setter) and Sawada Shin (Libero) are said to be the key players in the team…
"It's horrible… They died at the same day of their finals. I wonder if they are asking for a match"
"That's possible. To ease their regrets from not playing an important game" Naru took a glance on his watch, it's forty-five minutes before six in the evening "C'mon, let's go back to the base" he suggested.
"Nee-san, are you going kill those ghosts?" Hinata asked Mai who is currently reading a book, waiting for the ghosts to appear.
The tall guy behind him give him a thwack "How would you kill somebody who is already dead, idiot!"
Hinata looked at him curiously "Eh? If they are not going to kill them, how would they get rid of it?" he asked
Kageyama thought for a moment "Hm. That's true"
Mai smiled at them "We're not going to kill them, we will help them to go to heaven"
Both of them tilted their head as they listened, don't know if they both get what she's trying to say. It made Mai laugh softly "You will know later, if they will show up"
Mai stiffened for a moment when she felt the change of temperature around the gym, and it looks like the other members felt it too as they stopped from practicing. She looked at Gene and Naru who have the same expression, something is about to happened. Mai felt Hinata trembling, hiding behind her.
"Nee-san..." he softly called and grasp her hand with his cold hand, when a strong arm held his shoulders, when he looked up, he saw Naru glaring at him
"Why don't you go to where your teammates are, instead of hiding behind my assistant" his voice is calm but Hinata saw different from his eyes, which made him too scared to move.
"Naru, your scaring him" Mai said when she saw him shivered from looking at his boss' eyes. She walked him to where his teammates gathered.
"Aren't you afraid, nee-san?" Hinata asked her
"If I get scared, how can I still keep my job?"
Hinata was amazed at the woman in front of him "Nee-san, be careful"
She smile, and was touched for his concern. After a moment, two human shaped fog was form in the middle of the court, the SPR are getting ready if ever the ghosts will be out of control, but instead, two distinct figures are seen playing with each other, tossing the ball back and forth.
"Are you Yodami Jin, and Sawada Shin?" Naru asked the two, and both nodded. "Are you aware that you are already dead?" he added.
Both of the ghosts cried, "Yes. But we can't move on" the shorter guy said with his husky voice
"What do you want?" It was Mai who asked
"A match. One last game" the taller guy bitterly smile, then a tear fall from his eyes.
The next day, Takeda sensei is having a hard a time explaining to the Aoba Josai why they want to have a match with them, he can't say that a ghost requested it right? So he let Naru explain everything to them, and thankfully they accepted. At the gym, the Karasuno team members are warming up for the match, Mai and Gene joined them.
"It's been a while since I exercise" Gene stated as they are running around the gym
"Why are you joining us anyway? You're not the one who will be playing, right?" Tsukishima, one of the tall guys in the team asked
"Just to be prepared" Gene simply replied
"But seriously, a match with a ghosts in our team" Asahi shivered from the thought about it.
They are warming up when Aoba Josai arrived.
"Yo! Tobio-chan, chibi-chan! How does it fell to see the team who crushed you during inter high?" Oikawa - the team captain, said smiling at them, and he received a hard thwack from his childhood friend, Iwaizumi.
Gene and Mai can feel the tension between the two teams. Naru explained the situation to the team who just arrived, the coach sighed and still uncertain "The ghosts asked to have a match with us?" he asked.
Naru nodded, "Yes" and he handed him the paper where the news about the accident was written "Their opponent supposedly at that time, was Aoba Josai" he added
"Ah, that's the time when we win by default" Iwaizumi - the ace of the team, stated.
"They can't move on until they can have a match with you" Gene remarked, who joined them.
The Aoba Josai's coach approached Coach Ukai - the Karasuno's Coach "We will have a match"
"Glad to hear that"
Both team warmed up together, while Lin prepared to call the spirits.
"The ghosts are libero and setter, so Nishinoya, Sawamura, and Kageyama, you won't play on this match" Coach Ukai instructed
"Yes, coach"
Both team are ready, and Lin whistled, the ghosts appeared.
"Whoa! It's really a ghosts, I thought It's only a joke" Oikawa remarked, and Iwaizumi kicked him
"Shut up, shitty-Oikawa!"
Daichi talked to them "Let's have a match. And crushed Aoba Josai!" he said clenching his fist, to hide his fear
"Sure!" the two of them simultaneously said.
They already start playing, Jin was about to set the ball but it only goes thru him. They can't touch physical object.
"We know this will happen" Mai said as she and Gene walked to the court
"What do you mean nee-san?" Hinata asked her
Gene looked at the ghosts with a sad expression on their faces "Don't worry, use our body"
"WHAT?" both team was shocked
"Really? Can we?" Jin assured
"Of course, we already warmed up" Mai smiled "Shin you can use my body. I will become the libero" she added up
"And Jin can use mine, I will become the setter" Gene followed up
The two didn't hesitate to possess their bodies, it was their offer after all.
"Let's do it Jin" Mai said in a husky voice, definitely it was the ghost's voice who possessed her
"Of course"
They continue to play using Mai and Gene's body, after two hours the game finally ended. The Karasuno won, with a score of 35-37 on the first set, and 46-44 on the third set, they played the whole three sets and Aoba Josai won 41-38 on the second set. Both teams are exhausted from playing.
"It's a shame that those two died. They are both good" Coach Ukai said to the black clad young man beside him
"Yeah. But we can't change the fact that they are already gone"
Mai and Gene smiled at them "Thank you. We can now move on" they both said
"But, you should practice more, Aoba Josai is stronger compared before" Gene said
"Good luck on the Spring High Tournament" Mai waved to bid goodbye.
Both of their body glowed, and they both collapsed, Naru caught Mai, Lin with Gene.
After Takeda sensei give the payment and their thanks, Naru ordered everyone to begin the packing. He glanced over at Mai. "Oh and Mai"
"I know"
He smiled knowing what her reaction would be.
The next day at the office, Mai was talking with someone on the phone, and Naru saw her heaved a sigh then saddened. What was that all about? he thought.
