Chapter 14 – No more Secrets
Another ordinary day in the office, the irregulars cheerfully chattering, and playing games even Akira is blending in with them just fine. Mai in the kitchenette preparing a tea (for the third time) for his narcissistic boss who always stays at his office, she's still in cloud nine from what happened the other day, having a romantic dinner with him especially prepared by Shinomiya-san. But he still didn't remember about me, she thought. The door chimes rung, and Masako entered not wearing her usual kimono, she's wearing a skirt and a halter. Everyone in the common room was surprised in her, changing her image. She smiled at them, and went directly to Naru's office.
"What's with her? Trying to look cute to seduce Naru?" Ayako commented as she flipped her red hair, she looked at the monk who just snickered "Do you want to say something stupid monk?"
"You're just jealous Ayako, because you don't have a boyfriend. And Naru rejected your offer before." he got a hard thwack from the miko
John nervously laugh "Why don't you try to be honest with each other?"
Yasu nodded "We can see it. You like each other"
Both of them blushed "I would never like this old hag/stupid monk" they said simultaneously
Akira and Gene both laugh and their eyes met, both of them blushed – especially Gene! He averted his gaze.
Mai was about to knock on Naru's door when she heard a thud, she immediately open the door only to see both Naru and Masako on the floor, and the latter was on top of him almost half naked. With her trembling hands, she dropped the tray, she didn't know what to feel, shock? Anger towards Masako? Towards Naru? She felt the tears on her eyes were about to fall.
Masako glared at her "You're disturbing us" she said sharply
"S-sorry for the disturbance" she immediately close the door, and run outside but before she can open the door, Gene grabbed her arm to stop her, and Akira followed.
"Mai, what happen?" Gene asked worriedly. She couldn't hold it back anymore, she cried.
"I didn't saw anything!" she softly said
Akira raised her eyebrow "Saw what?"
"I didn't saw Masako on top of that narcissistic idiotic bastard!" she yelled, everybody was shocked from what she just said. She got free from Gene's grip, and run outside. Akira didn't hesitate to follow her beloved friend.
Naru was reading a novel when the last person he wanted to see, came and not wearing her usual kimono.
"What are you doing here Hara-san? I don't remember calling you" he bluntly said, without even looking at her
Masako frowned "And you didn't even bother to kick those idiots who are just noisily playing out there?"
"At least they are not bothering me"
She smirked "Oh really? Whereas before, you immediately throw us out if we stay a minute even after a case"
Naru didn't reply, she was right, he won't let them hang out in his office before.
"Is it because of that stupid assistant of yours?" she followed up when she notice his silence, and this what made him look at her.
He furrowed his eyebrow "I don't know what you're talking about, Hara-san"
"Of course you do!" she yelled "It's because of that Mai, you changed so much!" she noticed the framed picture on his table, it was Mai, who is sleeping on her desk, she was furious looking at it and throw it on the floor.
Naru angrily stood up and grabbed her "What the hell you do think you're doing Hara-san? You have no rights on breaking my things"
Masako scowl at him "What made her so special? She's nothing compared to you and me!"
"I love her and that's enough"
Masako heard footsteps, probably Mai, she thought. She pushed Naru down and tries to untie the knot on her dress and as if on a cue, Mai opened the door. She can see the shock on her face.
She glared at her "You're disturbing us"
"S-sorry for the disturbance" she saw her immediately close the door.
Naru brush off Masako and slap her hard as he can "I respected you Hara-san, but from what you just did, you lost all the respect that I have for you."
"Don't forget that I know your secret Oliver Davis! What do you think the others would feel if the boss they trusted doesn't have a trust on them?" She smirked and leave Naru's office.
Naru got a hard punch from Gene who entered in his office after Masako left. Gene was angry, he knows it.
"She cried, you idiot scientist! How long would you keep that 'in a relationship with Hara-san' act?" he furiously asked
He touched his nose and saw a blood on his fingers "Jerk! You really punch me that hard?"
"It's not even enough from what you did to Mai!" he yelled "Noll, you're the biggest idiot in the world! Would you let Hara-san threat you for the rest of your life?" Naru didn't look at his brother, he sighed "Tell them the truth" Gene's remarked made him worried.
"I bet they will hate me" he softly said, Naru may not admit it, but this team is the only team he didn't want to lose he considered them as his friends even Masako (before she made that threat).
Gene smiled "You won't know if you won't try" he grasp his brother's shoulder "Let's tell them the truth okay? No more hiding" he was relief when he saw him nodded.
The next day, everyone is in the common room, including Lin - like Naru, who loves staying in his office.
"I wondered why Naru called us so early" Yasu said
Masako was nervous, she already have an idea what Naru's announcement will be.
"Well, he said it's an emergency meeting though. I wonder if it's a case" John stated "But Mai still not here" he said when he didn't notice the bubbly assistant around.
Ayako was filing her nails when the twins came out "Ah, Naru! I'm getting bored waiting for the two of you"
Naru didn't answered the miko, he looked around to see if everybody is here "Where -"
"Naru! Sorry I'm late, I overslept. Akira didn't wake me up" Mai said as she pointed her friend beside her
"Hey, I did wake you up, but you slept like a rock"
Naru saw the shock on Mai's face yesterday, but now she seems over it. Mai went directly at the kitchenette to make a tea but Naru stop her "My tea can wait, Mai. But my announcement can't" he sharply said. Mai was nervous, it never happen before, Naru stopped her from making his precious tea. She take a sit next to Akira, who sit next to Gene, she notice lately that these two become closer.
Naru took a deep breath "I know, we've been working together for almost two years now, with an exception" he looked at Mai, and she smile softly knowing what he meant "But, I kept a secret from all of you" he looked at his team
Bou-san scratched his head "What do you mean, Naru?" he confusedly asked
"Two years ago, BSPR want to put up a branch here in Japan because of its high paranormal activity rate, and father made me the branch manager, with Gene and Lin as my associates" he explained. And from the looks on their faces he can tell what they just thought.
Naru sighed " Yes, The three of us are from the BSPR and I am Oliver Davis, and Gene is Eugene Davis." he confirmed, and he heard a collective gasp from his team, but not from Mai and her friend who just yawned.
Akira rose from her seat "Boring. I thought you would tell us something interesting than that. Mai, I'll help you prepared the tea" Mai followed her friend to the kitchenette. The twins and Lin looked at each other to make sure if they are right from what they heard. Revealing that I'm the famous Oliver Davis is boring? Naru thought.
Ayako thwack her boss "Are you an idiot or something? Why didn't you tell us sooner?"
"So in our case at the Prime Minister's mansion before, you already knew that the old man referring his self as Oliver Davis was an impostor?" John asked
Yasu scoffs "To think that their image of Oliver Davis was an old man"
Bou-san was in daze, the person that he admires is in front of him, and he's been working under him all this time.
"You are not angry at us?" Gene asked
John waved his hand "Of course not. We understand why the two of you hide your identity"
Naru softly smile "Thank you"
Bou-san slightly blushed from Naru's smile and dash towards him and bowed "Don't worry professor, your secret is safe with me"
"Here comes the tea!" Akira lively said as she and Mai came from the kitchen.
Naru looked at his assistant who didn't even bat an eye when he revealed that he is Oliver Davis "Mai"
"Hm?" Mai looked at him as she sip her tea
"Aren't you surprise that I'm Oliver Davis?"
Mai smiled at him "I already know about it" we already met before, she wanted to add but she didn't.
It was Naru's turn to be surprise "How?"
"Secret!" and she winked at him that made him blush
"And what about you Yukimura-san? It seems that you already knew about me too" Naru asked, glaring at her
Akira chuckled "Don't give me that look Noll, I already met you and Gene before when I was in England, but we didn't get a chance to talk with each other."
Naru raised his eyebrow "Really? When was that?"
"When you demonstrate that PK something" she directly answered
"And how did you got an accessed on that event?" he asked, only selected researchers are allowed to see that experiment.
"Ah!" Gene interjected "That's why you look familiar, you are Kouen's girlfriend that time!" this what made Lin stopped from typing, hearing his brother's name "I saw some pictures of you from Kouen's phone" Gene added.
She casually smile hearing that man's name "Yes. It was me"
"You are my brother's ex-girlfriend, who suddenly broke up with him?" Lin curiously asked
Akira nodded "He's a jerk, after watching Noll's experiment, he drove me to the hotel"
John made a sign of the cross upon hearing Akira's words.
"Don't tell me nothing really happened?" Ayako teasingly asked
"Of course nothing happen! I'm not that kind of girl, and I'm still a virgin!" Akira proudly said. This made John cover his face. Gene almost choke from the tea that he's been drinking, and blushed without knowing why.
"Wha-" Bou-san don't know what to say, it was too forward for him to handle
"Anyway" Naru said, getting their attention, they went all silent. He looked at Masako "Now that they know who I am, you should stop that ridiculous threat of yours Hara-san"
All of them stared at Masako who covered her face with her kimono to hide herself from embarrassment.
"What do you mean by that Naru?" Yasu asked
"Hara-san already know about our identity long ago, and now she used it to blackmailed Noll to go out with her" Gene explained
Akira laugh "That's interesting! I knew it, she use some dirty tricks"
"I'm sorry" Masako softly said
Naru looked at Mai "There is nothing between us. We are not even together. What you saw yesterday is nothing, we didn't do anything" he sounded like a husband explaining to his wife that he's not cheating.
"And why are you explaining it to me?" She asked
"W-well, when i saw you yesterday you looked like you are about to cry. I've been wondering if you are jealous or something"
Mai widened her eyes "Why would i be jealous?" she yelled.
The two started bickering, over trivial things. It feels like a heavy burden was lifted from the twins' shoulders, they are no longer keeping a secret from them.
Gene growl softly "An idiot and a dense. What a nice couple"
