Chapter 17 - Love. Love. Love.
They bought the things that their mother needed for tomorrow's celebration, and since they have plenty of time left, they went shopping. Ayako didn't hold back, it was as if she bought the whole store and there is Bou-san, who became her baggage boy. When he noticed that she will enter to another boutique, he stopped her "Wait old hag! Don't you think this is enough?" referring to the shopping bags he was carrying.
Ayako flipped her hair, "Not yet. Just shut up and follow me"
"But, whatever dress you will wear, it doesn't change the fact that you are already an old lady" he got the strongest punch from Ayako. "What was that for?!" he whined.
"What do you mean by old lady?!"
"You don't know what 'old lady' means? Old lady means old lady!" he got a thwack and a kick.
Naru sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose while looking at the two exorcists who were shamelessly arguing in front of a boutique.
Bou-san arrived at the Davis' mansion with bruises all over his face and carried Ayako's boutique, I mean... shopping bags. They plopped down on the sofa, obviously being so tired from shopping.
"I'm so tired. My legs hurt" Masako complained
"Mine too" Akira seconded. Despite of being tired, Gene kneeled down before her and massaged her foot "Feeling better?" he asked, she felt her face turned red "I'm fine Gene" she tried to free her foot, but failed
"So this is your team in Japan, Noll, Gene?" a firm voice was heard behind them asked, a man on his 40s come out from the Library, it was none other than the BSPR's CEO Martin Davis his self! He looked at everyone and spotted a familiar face, he widened his eyes remembering who she is. And it seems she remembered him too, for getting the same reaction as him. He was about to kneel to give her respect, but she immediately grabbed his hand and ran to the garden, it happened so fast that the others were left stunned.
Mai wanted to cursed herself, why didn't it occurred to her that Martin Davis, the one who trained her psychic abilities before when she was a child until she turned fourteen, might be Naru and Gene's father?
Martin blinked at her from what just she did "Your Highness?" he asked, he wanted to confirm
"Uncle Martin, please, please, please, don't addressed me that way. Noll and Gene, and the others didn't know about it... yet" Mai pleaded to the professor, she clasped her hands still pleading at him
"Father? Mai? What's wrong?" they turned back and saw Naru and others looking at them "Mai, why did you suddenly ran with my father here in the garden?" he sharply asked
His father chuckled "She just mistook me for someone else, Noll"
Naru raised her eyebrow, obviously he's not buying it. "I'm so sorry uncle, you two are really looked alike, I thought you are him" he saw Mai apologetically bowed to his father, and went back to the house hoping that Naru won't pressed him with questions.
After dinner, they are on the parlor with Luella and Martin discussing about the celebration tomorrow.
"Since the royal families demanded that they don't want to socialized with the other guests, I guess the party with my friends and the BSPR will be during lunch time, and then the royalties can come during dinner" Luella said, as she wrote down the people she wanted to invite
"How did you and the royalties become acquaintance, Mrs. Davis?" Akira politely ask
"I think that started ten years ago, the queen sometimes asked Martin to go to Buckingham Palace to train someone with psychic abilities"
They 'ohh-ed' from what they heard, "There's a psychic among the royalties?" Ayako and Bou-san asked together
"No. The one that Martin trained was a royalty from other country"
"Other country? Why did they bother to come here in England to train?" Naru curiously asked, it was the first he heard that his father personally trained someone aside from him and Gene.
Madoka scoffed "Your father's reputation reached our queen's ears to the point that she personally requested him for help" Naru just rolled his eyes at her
"And so, how is he now father, the one that you trained?" Gene asked his father
Martin glanced at Mai and softly smile "The one that I trained is a 'she', and I guess with my training, she's being able to control her PK now" he looked at Naru "She's very much like you, Noll. She always caused poltergeist during her childhood due to her uncontrollable PK."
"So she can use qigong too?" Yasu also asked the professor
Martin shook his head "No. The one who taught Noll the qigong was Lin, not me. So she can't"
Madoka got excited hearing it "So it means, Lin can trained her too, Martin?"
"Well, if they will allow it, why not?"
Mai was silent during the whole conversation, she sighed. She felt awkward, why wouldn't she? They are talking about her and her training. She was staring at Lin, she wanted to asked him the ways that he taught to Naru on how to control the 'Qi' flowing out of his body, but she stopped herself, not now, she thought.
"Mai!" Akira squealed and jumped on her bed as they entered their room "I can finally meet those three!"
"Right. Good for you, bad for me, who knows if they can keep up the operation 'pretend-you-don't-know-me', especially that Ren"
Akira chuckled "I want you made up your mind Mai, soon it will be your twenty-first birthday. You have to pick between: to be the England's future queen or to be the future Mrs. Oliver Davis"
Mai automatically got up from her bed "Who said I like Naru?" the thought of becoming Naru's wife made her shivered - from excitement!
Her friend laughed "Oh Mai, the princess of denial. I can clearly see it"
"Oh yeah? Then why can't you see that Eugene likes you?" she shot back, emphasizing the 'you' her smile widened when she saw her friend's blushing face
"Not fair!" Akira threw her a pillow "I was supposed to be teasing you, not the other way around"
They continue teasing each other and their pillow fight until both of them got tired and fell asleep.
During the party, the SPR team stayed at the garden socializing with the guests, they met many kinds of people in the fields of parapsychology and psychic research.
"Oh, so you asked the Gods that resides on the trees to help you cleansed the spirits?" one of the Cambridge's parapsychology professor asked, he became interested in Ayako when she told him that she's a priestess, not to mention she looks stunning with her above the knee halter baby blue dress, and not to mention number two, that Bou-san keep on staring at her while blushing, and glaring at the professor - who obviously flirting with her.
Ayako smiled at him while batting her eyelashes "Yes"
"Amazing, I don't know that trees can be help in ghost hunting. I'm amazed that someone as amazing as you is working under Oliver Davis"
Ayako blushed at his compliment "Oh, don't mention it"
Bou-san inwardly groaned seeing Ayako flirting with another man, why i felt so irritated? he suddenly thought, she's single, she can do whatever she wanted to do, I'm not her boyfriend or anything, I'm just a co-worker who constantly received a hard thwack from her, he nodded, convincing his self
"It's because you like her Bou-san" Yasu and Gene both whispered to him which made him out a short cry
"Don't scare me like that you young men!"
The two laughed at his reaction. "I'll bet that he will give her his calling card and asked for a date" Yasu said as he looked at Ayako and the professor
Gene grinned, "I will bet that he will give him a kiss"
"A... WHAT?!" Bou-san yelled from surprise, which made the other guests looked at them.
The three of them continue to watch Ayako and the man, it seems they are almost over with their talk. The man took out his wallet and pull out his calling card
Yasu ginned at Gene "I won"
"Wait Yasu, look" he pointed at the two. The professor gave her his calling card and kissed her on the cheek "It's a tie"
Yasu groaned "Aw, man"
Ayako was swaying her hips as she approached the three of them and sits beside Bou-san "So? What did the two of you have talked about?" Bou-san asked, although he's still sulking from the kiss.
She rolled her eyes "Oh that self-important, high and mighty professor? He's getting on my nerves!" she slapped on Bou-san's chest the calling card that he gave "Throw that away" he don't know it too but he felt relieve that Ayako turned him down, It's because you like her, he recalled what the two youngsters said to him earlier. I see, so I really like her, he thought with a smile while staring at the stunning miko beside him
Seven o'clock in the evening when a two white horse-carriage stopped at the Davis' Mansion.
"Now Ren, do you understand her situation right? You must act as if we don't know her" his sister reminded him for the nth time already
"Yeah. Yeah. I know" he lazily answered, he noticed his sister and older brother staring intensely at him, doubting him "I promise, okay?"
"Are you sure?" his older brother asked, he nodded nervously
"Hey come on, we're here" his sister reached out her hand, the two princes put their hands above hers "Operation: Pretend we don't know her... Start!
"Roger!"
Everyone was waiting at the front door to greet the special guests that they've been waiting for, the coachman open the door revealing the royalties.
The eldest, Prince Sebastian Arthur Micheal Louis came out first, followed by his only sister, Princess Anabelle Nicole, and last to descend is the youngest crowned prince - Prince Richard Edwy Nathaniel Philip. They gaping while looking at them, they still can't believe that the royalties really came, they bowed together.
"Welcome your highness"
The three look at everyone who greeted them, and almost jumped to person they really, really wanted to see. "A sincere apology from our mother Mrs. Davis, for she have another business to attend to" Sam politely said to her
"Not at all, your highness. I'm extremely glad already that you respond to my invitation"
The three of them smiled "Because we wanted to see someone!" Ren blurted out, his brother and sister glared at him telling him to shut up
"Oh, really? And who is it?"
Ren smiled ear to ear "It's Ma-" Anabelle and Sam elbowed him in the stomach
"Don't mind him! He's just excited for his engagement soon" Anabelle reasoned to them, and Sam nervously smiled.
The SPR members guided them to the garden, as Luella prepared the foods.
"I will strangle him later, Mai" she heard Anabelle and Sam whispered to her as they walked to the garden.
"Oh my god! I still can't believe that I'm sitting with you!" Ayako internally fangirling
"It's our pleasure seeing you in person, your highness" John bowed at them, they smiled at their innocence
"Can I touch you?" Madoka excitedly asked "I want to touch the real life royalties"
"Sure. But you know, there's a princess-" Ren internally groan when his sister and brother elbowed him again
"I already told her that I will strangle you later." Sam seriously whispered to him, and he glance at the glaring Mai, he shivered, then an idea hit him.
"Oliver, do have someone you like?" he suddenly asked, they all went silent at his question. He noticed his short glance at Mai and back to him
"And why do you want to know such thing, your highness?" he politely ask - or at least 'tried' to be polite
"Let's say I'm just curious, because unlike Eugene, you are more…" he trailed his eyes on him "… like a hermit"
The all snorted, trying not to laugh at his word. Naru raised his eyebrow, he's not pleased by his description about him.
"What if I will say yes, there's someone I like?" He sharply ask, without addressing him properly
"What if I will say, I will take her away from you?" Ren asked back, Naru raised his eyebrow "What if I will force her to marry me? To what extent you are willing fight for her?" Mai was amazed at him, for the first time, Ren said something that made sense.
Naru thought for a moment, there's no way that he will make Mai his anyway, he thought "I will take her back to me, even if I will make the royalties as my enemies" he seriously said.
There was a deafening silence util Ren laughed and he seriously looked at him.
"I will remember your words, Oliver. As a man, don't let her down"
His sister and brother, and Mai blinked at him, so this guy knows how to be serious for the first time, the of them thought. They night went smoothly, they asked them some personal matters like their favorite brands and stuffs. When they asked Anabelle about her love life, she seems to avoid Mai's gazed... She wondered why, but let it go.
