Reaching the tollgate, Rath stopped turning like he was detecting something. Growling then a black blur, Kate pushed to the ground as Jess got couple shoots off. Blur pasted Jess causing she to twirl landing on the ground as something splashed on Kate's face. Brushing her hand against her cheek, Kate stared at the blood covering her hand. Staring at the blur clearing into a wolf with metical skin.

Whistle then, "Jackass, you still missed the mark again," Rath relied bringing the cyber wolf's attention on him.

Flipping it off then he run off into the ruined city.

Blood oozed around Jess's prone body. Opening the first bag, Kate placed the bandage one the five claw wound going from Jess's left shoulder to her hip.

"Not remove the shirt," mumbled Jess as Kate pressed hard on the wound.

Tying the cloth ends, Kate gathered the equipment moving them behind brick wall that used to be the corner of some building.

Placing Jess's left around her neck, "Come on, Van Delk," said Kate, "Don't let those men be right," leading her to the campsite.

"Fuck off," groaned Jess keeping pressure on the bandage.

Resting her against the wall, Kate removed blanket from her pack then wrapped it around Jess.

Rour of a jet engine caught Kate's attention as she crawled over the mound. A vertibird with yellow USPA stenciled on it landed.

"Ghillie suit," groaned Jess.

Pulling it from Jess's pack, Kate slid it on. Pointing the binocular at the vertibird, six member squad dispatch from the vertibird then head into the cyber wolf and Rath took.

Returning to Jess, Kate handed the binocular to Jess. Pressing the lens against her eyes, her thumb flipped the replay button.

"Lisa Maynard," grunted Jess, "Rath's sister in law. That means Christian was the bastard who clawed me," noticing Kate's questioning look, "Christian is Rath's brother."

"He never talked his family," Kate commented studying Arrakis etched along the barrel of the black 45 she took from Jess's holster.

"Including Amy, his cousin. Reeves?"

"Who?"

"He's girlfriend that went crazy killing her mother then castrated and murdered her father. On top of that removed her eyeballs."

"She's the one he went to prison for. What happened to her?"

"Some thugs killed her. Rath cremated her in her shed near a cemetery."

"Why is she here?"

"Guess she didn't forgive him for crashing her wedding?" feeling the ground shake, "Dinner ready?"

"Yeah," answered Kate.

Hearing explosion of water caused Kate to scurry back to her observation post. Tentacles wrapped around the vertibird then dragged it into the water.

Returning, "There goes their ride," replied Kate.

"Come here," Jess said motioning to Kate, "Kate, promise me you'll watch over Rath."

"Jess, really."

Smiling, "I'm not asking you to sleep with him," resting her hands on Kate's shoulders, "Just watch over him. My time is coming to an end."

"Don't talk like that."

"Promise me," gripping Kate's shoulders.

"I promise."

"By mischance, he grew wings and flew... like a bird. He became a hunter, and like a hawk, he flew to seek his prey. Taking refuge in those far corners of the world where magic still lingers in the earth," Jess mumbled passing out.

Checking her breathing and pulse, Kate relieved Jess still lived.

Making a fire, she sat with her finger resting on the trigger guard. Resting her head against the wall, her eyes lids grew heavy. Close. Open. Close. Open.

"Huh," she let out noticing Rath checking Jess's wound.

"Lisa and her team sunk into the ground," he relied still studying Jess's wounds, "We reached the point of no return," looking at Kate, "Kept waiting, huh," sitting across from Kate with the fire between them, "I'll start the watch, first."

"Ok," Kate resting Arrakis on her knee, "What's Amy like?"

"She properly let you read her dairy," Rath remarked.

"If we survived this, I'm meeting her," Kate said going to sleep.
