Gunslinger Girl Shadows of War Ch. 25: Revelations and Revenge
A/N: I do not own gunslinger girl only my OCs and this will be the start of the final high school Arc and reviews will be nice
Stretching and yawning as the sun lowly started its break through the sky Chris rolled over and kissed Petra then pulled on a black sweatshirt and his cargo pants and a set of dog tags and a crucifix necklace that for the life of him he couldn't remember why he had to wear it on that day but damn it just felt nice. As he snuck out into the still, crisp air he muttered to himself
"Well I'll have to ask doc about the fact I can't remember for the life of me why this damn necklace is so important to me" and he then rounded the corner and started to run to the track and start trying to see how much of a sweat he could build up before the rest of the crew woke up and as he rounded the track the 3rd time he saw Elenora and Priscilla standing there and he slowed to a stop and wiped his sweat on a bandanna and looked at them and remembering what had happened a few days before asked, his voice dripping with sarcasm
"So did I fail the psych test and get a time behind bars?" and both of them looked at him and knew it would stun him and they said watching his brown eyes expecting a reaction and knowing they would get one saying
"Well we have heard of an assassination attempt on Mario and are worried that someone close to Triela and you may be next" and he stood there and said calmly
"Who the hell is it and don't play any games with me because I aint in the fucking mood" and they looked at him and said
"You will be going to high school cause its mimi so get your backpack and Triela will be going with you because you both have had contact with her" and Chris nodded and as he turned to walk away asked with slight regret
"When does it start and what's the cover story like are we siblings, dating, what's going on?" and Priscilla said calmly running up to his side and grabbing his hand
"Hey bro I can tell something is bothering you and is it going back to school or what?" and Chris just looked and tried his best to smile and shook his head and said in a low almost deathly quiet tone
"No its not that just a feeling that something isn't right" and as he spun in his heel he felt a hand grab his preventing him from pulling away or making a fist and he looked up and saw Elenora ran up next to her and they both pushed money toward him and said
"Why don't you take the night and blow off a little steam and maybe hang out with Elsa cause Mike and Alex are training with the carabinieri so the girls are up for a little company and dave is naturally doing whatever the fuck he does so go out and have a good time that's an order" and he smiled before turning and running to the dormitory and he ran right to Elsa's room and knocked on the door and it slowly opened and he heard what he assumed was a recording say in German
"Hello Chris I know you have walked into my room and I wonder how much if any that you genuinely care for me and what the feelings are if they exist and if so are they real so you don't lead me on like that bastard Lauro did. I hope you can stand the sight of blood" and the last part got him shuddering with a chill down his back and he pulled out his glock 22 and swept the room with nerves visible and high stress and he opened the closet and found a motion activated recorder playing a message and he looked down and saw Elsa holding a teddy bear with her wrists slashed and a red line drawn up through the arm where the vein was smeared all over the tiny closet. Reaching up he grabbed a dress that she often wore when she wanted to feel like a little girl and he ripped the sleeves off and tied them up and said trying to control emotions
"You don't know me but you don't like me never cared how I felt I went out looking on the streets of Bakersfield" and he wrapped her wounds and ran his hand over the wounds and was stunned to see the "blood" come off under his fingernail and he said in a mock adult voice
"Young lady if you don't get up I will only give you a milk bottle and not take you to the bar with me" and Elsa opened her eyes and seeing that the joke had worn thin she sat up and said
"Im sorry it was just a prank and if you are mad at me I understand well the fake vein scars are just that but the wrists I could use a little help with" and Chris felt his fear and anger turn to sympathy and he walked into the bathroom and grabbed a roll of bandages and started wrapping up her wounds before saying
"Yeah the dress you loved is sleeveless and I hope you don't get to mad at me" and she stated laughing so much he thought she would turn blue
"Are you really apologizing for what would have saved my life besides that dresses sleeves were starting to get a little tight so I was going to tear them off so I'm sorry for what I did that wasn't a good joke" and he just looked at her and hugged her which she was shocked at as the only person who hugged her was her boyfriend and she said trying not to stutter
"So um what did you come down to tell me?" and Chris looked at her and said
"Let's go to the cafeteria and you can buy dinner and I will drop the secret there and don't worry its nothing bad but you will have to answer some questions for me" and they walked to the cafeteria Elsa ordered up roast beef sandwiches and sodas before sipping on his drink and taking a bite of his sandwich and Elsa and Triela looked and waited as he swallowed then waited as he said using a flair for the dramatic
"Well we are high schoolers and I am a senior and we had better start acting like it" and Triela looked at him and asked nervously clearly unsettled at the thought of having to kill a kid not much older than them
"Why are they sending us to a high school and who is the target we have to kill" and Chris looked at them and said calmly trying to alleviate her fears and even Elsa looked nervous at the thought so he worked quickly saying
"Less of who do we have to kill and more of who are we going to have to save…" and they looked at him and Elsa chimed up slightly nervous
"So who are we protecting and what will we get for doing that?" and Chris looked at Triela and said nonchalantly
"we get a couple cases of wine and new clothes bought at designer by the one known as Nicola" and Triela's eyes lit up and she said excitedly as she stood up
"Come on boy we have to deal with Mimi and if anyone touches her Ill kill them slowly" and she looked at the time and looked at Elsa and said like a sister who had a plan that she wanted to keep secret
"You don't have anything you want to relive in high school and I know I will be a cheerleader" and Taylor blushed and mumbled
"I will be the one who will be jealous and wishing I could be your homecoming dance and date" and they all watched as Chris Triela and Elsa all grabbed and packed bags for school and Jean got a kick out of, although he didn't show it, the fact that Chris was having to live a normal life and he even saw that Chris was nervous about what Petra would think and Chris was relieved when Elenora yelled out
"Hey Chris make sure your sister and cousin have everything they need and that you dress appropriately" and her and Priscilla both yelled
"Because if we have to deal with you three you are grounded" and they all laughed while enjoying what Chris called
"My last smoke and night cap until the damn operation is over" and Triela said calmly and teasingly as if she was his little sister
"Oh big brother you know those aren't healthy for you and you know we can drink provided our big sister and aunt" casting glances to both older women who were watching them pack for their first day of school before Triela finished it saying
"Will let us have a few drinks and I know our roommate will let us drink and smoke so you don't have to go cold turkey and I hope she has something other than that rotgut that I had my last op down south" and everyone laughed as that had a double entendre and Davey said snickering
"I'm going to just leave that one way the hell alone because fuck people tend to get on my nerves and I know you will try and kill me but I don't want to see what you will do to me in a sparring match" and as they all headed to the bar Petra grabbed her boyfriend's Guitar and sang out
"You oughta shoot that last one down now pass on that one more round now closing in on to late thirty better head off got to kick it off early" and he threw back the shot of whiskey and looking at the time he muttered
"Damn it I hate to be the first one to leave the bar but we really have to get some shut eye because we have to be up early and I hate it a lot" and seeing Etta laughing Elsa complained like a little kid
"Mommmmm why don't they have to go to bed I mean they are in the same grade that I am and it's just not fair!" and the others all swapped a joke as she had started opening up and being more jovial and Claes looked at Rico and said in a friendly banter
"I think I speak for the rest of us when I say that Elsa is probably going to be going to the elementary school but I could be wrong" and Elsa jokingly replied
"Oh why don't you bite me" and Michael who had just finished his round of whiskey and was tipsy as hell said
"S-sure I'll bite on you young lady" and Elenora and Priscilla said
"No we are putting the brakes on that one so nothing will happen and to the kids who have school tomorrow the bar closes early tonight so night" and the group of three muttered and headed off to sleep with Petra following her boyfriend in almost a teasing motive and as he dropped into his bed after kicking off his boots and sliding off his cargo pants and his undershirt Petra said jokingly
"Boy are you going to want me to tuck you in and sing you a lullaby?" and he just grabbed her and held her close before saying groggily
"No just wanna hold you and tell you how beautiful you are and that I have always loved you" and Petra blushed before kicking the covers over and crawling under the sheets with him and said quietly
"I love you boy and I know you will do what you have to do and just get home safe that's an order" and he nodded and fell asleep holding her close and he mumbled as the sun came up way to early. Looking over to the window Chris placed a kiss on Petra's lips and said
"I love you baby and I really don't wanna have to leave you because I'm afraid if I go ill come back a changed man" and Petra just laughed before grabbing his hand and stating
"Boy you know we are assassins and you are worried about being changed from coming back from a high school" and he looked down and muttered
"I'm nervous that I may have to kiss another girl" and Petra said with a lot of meaning
"Boy if they tell you to kiss the girl you have to protect I won't care cause I don't want you to die but we have put that Triela is your sister and Elsa is your cousin so don't worry and I take it Mimi knows you have a girlfriend?" and he shook his head yes and she smiled and helped him up as he was still unstable from the long night they had and she said
"I know you are worried about me and I appreciate that but take care of yourself" and he kissed her good bye before grabbing his pack and a switchblade knife then ran to the truck as Elsa yelled
"Come on man we can't be late for our first day" and they took off with Chris looking at the others and flipping the safety off his handgun and sang out
"All the federales say they could've had us any day they only let us go so long out of kindness I suppose" and Triela laughed and asked him in a true to her style
"Lefty why did you slide up to Ohio and I'm shocked they let you go so long without hunting you" and Chris saw them pull up to the school blaring music and he hopped out and helped the girls out and sang to his sister
"Everything I do is because of you to keep you safe with us and that's my job you see" and Triela and Elsa started to look nervous and Triela whispered to Chris and Elsa
"I'm scared that I may cry because it's my first day dealing with people like this" and Chris laughingly replied
"What not killing classmates?" and Elsa finished the statement as she was a little nervous
"No. Learning knowing each day could be our last so what do we do" and Chris' last words before walking into the office were
"Stay frosty, keep your head moving, be nice be polite and have a plan to kill everyone we meet" and they smiled as he opened the door to the office after following the signs and they signed into the school using a variety of their names and Chris sang as he was showed to class as Elsa and Rico were walked to their classes and seeing Mimi
"We're working hard all week put some beers on the table" and Mimi quietly sang
"Well that poker makes me broker every Saturday night but I still have running water and they ain't cut off the lights" then moved her stuff as Chris walked in with his boots thudding on the tile floor and the teacher asked
"Who are you and are you the new student?" and the consoler said
"Yes he is the new student and I think he will fit into the class" and Chris looked at the Class and said as the teacher wanted him to introduce himself
"My names Josh O'Reilly and my dad was a US army solider so I have been traveling and he finally retired so I am not used to staying in one place for so long" and the teacher asked him
"How long have you been in the city" and he looked and said with all the feeling of being on the run from his past
"About 2 weeks give or take the jet lag" and as the class laughed Mimi said
"He is the boy I've been writing love letters too and Im shocked his dad let him come here" and Chris said calmly knowing he wouldn't be back for awhile
"I'm here on a trial basis as my temper has been bad so I hope I don't have to drop out" and mimi whistled out and said
"Hey boy spots open so grab a seat" and the teacher said
"Yes well grab a seat anywhere and try to keep your voice down and Class break will be in 2 months" and Chris mumbled
"So is my graduation or arrest whichever comes first" and mimi lightly slapped his arm knowing the teacher didn't see it and as the class got out for the day and Chris was heading to his next class he heard a voice saying
"That bitch has cost us so get her" and he looked at the two gang wannabees and muttered
"Damn first day and I am already kicking the shit out of some scum bag oh well game on" and he moved toward the two boys and smiling as Chris recognized the two he said
"Boys you better run or I can break you like a twig again if that's what you're into" and as the boys threw a series of sloppy punches he laughed and said
"Game on" and he grabbed the boys arm and smiled and looked at the boy and said with an exaggerated drawl
"Well bitch they call me el diablo en persona so you are totally fucked" and as the boy tried pulling his arm away Chris snapped his wrist and elbow then was about to knee him in the nose after throwing a few body blows when the teacher yelled
"Young man knock that off and head to my office now" and Chris just turned around and saying nothing walked into the office and waited as the door closed behind him and he said calmly before the teacher could say anything
"Yes I know I knocked the hell out of the man but I don't care because he was a problem from my old school and he was a drug addict so it was him or me and damn it I won't let that son of a bitch land the first punch" and Triela walked in and said in a worried little sister voice
"C-can I have a word with him and I take it he is suspended his first day?" and his teacher took a bit of pity and said
"You can talk to him and no he won't be just a day of in-school suspension and that will be tomorrow" and with that he was free to go and Triela grabbed his jacket and said smiling
"Boy you owe me and why don't you buy lunch" and Mimi saw him walk into the cafeteria looking around as if he was an assassin looking for his kill or a VIP protection detail, neither of which were to far from the truth, and he spotted mimi waving to him and he dropped down next to her and sighed before saying
"God running around a lot on my first day and kicking the crap out of a man who tried to drag my mind back to hell where I am trying my damnedest to keep it out of there" and she smiled and gave Chris a coke and steak sandwich before saying
"Damn it boy trying to kick the piss out of a young man you should have broken him and ended his life not trying to deal with his bullshit" and seeing the boy running the cafeteria he yelled out seeing Chris
"God damn it he is a freak get him!" and Chris just sighed and muttered
"Gah I didn't have a normal day but oh well I'll send them to hell" and the kid pulled a knife and seeing the demonic smile creeping across his lips Chris yelled to the attacker
"My life is not much so you have all two options either surrender and leave or die!" and without saying a word the kid thrust a knife at Chris who moved only after the blade stuck into his palm and he roared out
"That is it you are fucking dead" and slammed his head into the kid and knocked him out snapping Chris' fragile medication induced sanity so the arm was shattered and the cops all pulled tasers and Chris dropped to his knees sobbing saying
"Big sister you should have let me die and not doom me to this hell that I am in now" and Mimi walked him out and told him calmly
"Boy take the day off and try to have a normal life for a day and we will let the teachers know what is going on" and he started walking heading toward the agency saying quietly
"I have to push myself further this isn't good enough" and Elsa yelled out
"Brother wait for me" and wrapped him in a hug letting him drop to his knees shaking like a leaf ignoring everyone staring and Triela joined her "cousin" and mimi in letting him know he wasn't alone as the rain slowly fell over the saddening and subdued scene taking place in front of the school and the stunned classes holding out until the rain and the group was the only thing left in his life.
