Jacob turned around and stared at her. She was beautiful. Breathtaking even. Every cell in his being yearned to be next to her. To be close. Of course, this feeling had always been there. His wolf side always wanted her to be with him. To keep her safe. Unfortunately, those yearnings never turned sexual. Looking at her, he didn't know what to say. What does one say to another when they haven't seen them in 10 years?

"What are you doing here?" Renesmeee spoke with so much malice in her voice that Jacob was afraid to respond.

Taking a deep breath, Jacob exhaled and lied.

"I was actually thinking about taking classes here. I didn't know that you were here, or I wouldn't have come. I'm sorry. I can see that my presence is upsetting for you. I'll go."

Jacob went to turn around when Renesmee grabbed his arm.

"Look. Don't go. I'm upset at you. Don't get me wrong. However, I think that taking classes would be good for you. Especially if it is something that you want to do. This is a big campus, so I am sure we wouldn't really see each other unless we wanted to."

Jacob looked up while Renesmee was talking and saw a man walking up towards them. He put his finger to his lips to tell Jacob not to say anything and walked slowly behind Renesmee. When he got close enough to Renesmee, he put his arms around her and kissed her neck. Jacob immediately felt sick to his stomach. He knew that this was a natural response. She was supposed to be his. He should be the one that was behind her now. Holding her. Whispering sweet murmurs into her ears. Kissing her, tasting her…

Jacob came back to reality.

What had just happened? Jacob had never imagined her in this light. Never had he wanted to be the one to caress her. Drink her in.

Renesmee turned around and gave the guy she obviously knew a big hug and then turned back to him.

"Jacob this is my boyfriend Ryan. Ryan, this is Jacob. Jacob is a family friend. I practically grew up with him."

Jacob extended his hand and Ryan clasped it tightly.

"Great to meet you. It's always great when I can meet someone from Renesmee's extended family," Ryan smiled in earnest.

"Thank you. It's nice to know that someone is making our Nessie happy." The smile faded from Jacob's face as he saw hers. She obviously was pissed. Though he had no idea why.

"Wait. Nessie? Rene, is that a family nick name for you? I've never heard it before, but I think it becomes you." Pulling her closer, he said, "Maybe we should resurrect it. I think it suits you."

Ryan looked at his watch and gave Renesmee a kiss on the cheek. "I've got to go now. Class begins in about ten minutes and it's all the way across campus. I love you."

He then looked up at Jacob. "Really, a great pleasure meeting you. I hope you have a great day."

He turned and started walking off. He didn't even get three feet before Renesmee gave him the same death glare she had done earlier.

"What did I do in the past few minutes that has warranted such hatred from you?"

Renesmee didn't respond. She simply reached out her hand and touched his wrist. That's when he saw it.

Renesmee. Not the Renesmee he saw now. This Renesmee seemed a bit younger. She was crying. Crying so hard, he could feel it. The pain. The agony.

"Baby, I am so sorry this is happening to you. You have no idea. I wish I could take this away from you. Take the pain. Make you feel whole again. I'm afraid there isn't anything that I could say that would make you feel better."

Younger Renesmee looked up into her father's eyes shook her head.

"You will feel better. It will take time, but eventually I promise you. You will be happy again. Nessie…"

Edward didn't finish his talk because Renesmee looked up at him and screamed.

"Don't you ever call me that again. I can't… I can't after this…"

Jacob stood in silence with his face contorted. He'd know that the separation would be difficult for her. Had known that perhaps she would have a hard time accepting everything, but he didn't expect it would be so drastic. How could he ever make amends for his sin against her?
