Chapter 3: Little Sister, Little Brother, Big Problem (Part 2)
A/N: Hi everyone, so I know I haven't posted in a while, sorry about that. Anyways, since I know I didn't make it clear in last chapter, I'll make it clear now: Lloyd is young right now. He's about Angel- Gazzy's age. So, I didn't change the first chapter, but basically, they escaped after baby Lloyd was introduced because they wanted to protect him. Ok? Ok. Have fun, and don't kill me.
Max's P.o.V.
I looked at my bleeding and bruised knuckles silently, thinking over everything that had just happened. They had gotten away. Ari and his stupid team of Erasers had taken Angel and we hadn't been able to stop them. I was upset with myself, mostly. I was supposed to be the leader, the others looked to me to be strong and know what to do, and here I was having just bawled my eyes out without a clue in the world as to what to do next. As I start trying to calm down my racing mind and heart, when I felt people nearby, which is odd, because I was up in the trees. Then, a voice, grating and irritated, called out.
"We know you're out there. Stop hiding and face us."
I almost laughed at how much this person sounded like I would, but then realized that their voice was coming from the trees behind me, not the ground. Wary, I moved through the trees in the direction of the speaker, and saw two teenagers. One wearing black and orange, the other, red. However, what almost gave me a heart attack, was the fact that they had… wings. The same color as their clothes, too. I decided to respond to them before appearing.
"Funny," I say, moving closer, almost in full view of them, "that sounds like something I would say."
As soon as I was in full view, I watched both boys scan me with their eyes, and felt a little bit of pride when I saw their jaws drop slightly as they noticed my wings. I decided to trust them just a little bit, because, after all, birds of a feather flock together.
"Hi, I'm Max, and from what I've seen, I'm just like you."
Their jaws dropped down a little bit more, and the one in red stuttered a little. I heaved an exasperated sigh.
"You know, when a lady introduces herself, you would think a guy would do the same…"
They looked at each other confused before shrugging and the one in black took over.
"Well, my name is Cole, and this hothead is Kai. As to being similar, I can imagine that that only applies to certain… ah, areas."
I rolled my eyes at his attempt to be delicate.
"You two out here alone or what?"
They didn't look like two guys that'd be by themselves, more likely in a group or something. I noticed that they both paled a bit at the question, and a look flashed across their faces, one I knew too well. Fear.
"No, we have three other members." Cole said, "We were out, just going to have another normal day for us, and then we saw a helicopter in the sky—"
Kai cut him off at this part, and I was starting to understand just why Cole called him a hothead.
"And then this idiot just decided that it was the School- you know them, right," he asked, and I nodded, but he continued without even waiting, "and decided that the best idea would be to split up—"
Now it was my turn to cut someone off.
"Wait a minute, wait a minute. The School is chasing you and you decide that the best course of action is to split up?! Are you actually insane?"
Cole looked bashful, Kai looked smug and I was full of righteous anger. Cole opened his mouth as if about to answer and I just shook my head. He looked away.
"Here's what we're gonna do, you're going to fly back in the direction you just came from, I'm gonna follow you, we're going to follow their trail, and you, mister," I gave a pointed look to Cole, "better hope and pray that all three of them are perfectly fine and safe or I will make your life actual hell."
He gulped so hard, I could actually see it, turned, and took of between the trees, Kai and I close behind. You may be wondering why I cared so much about people I hardly knew or had barely even met. The answer is simple. I would not have another case of disappearance on my hands if I could help it. And right now, I could help it.
