Mal POV

Today was the day, it was Ben's coronation. The day where our parents would find out that we were turning our backs on them. I gaze nervously out of the carriage as I sit beside Ben.

"It's going to be ok Mal" he tells me squeezing my hand. I look at him and he's smiling reassuringly.

"If something goes wrong…" I start to say.

"It won't" Ben cuts me off. "We have spoken to fairy godmother she's on alert, the camera feed to the Isle will be cut as soon as her official speech is done." Your parents will never know that you're not planning to do anything."

I look down at out joined hands uncertainly but Ben tilts my face back up. "Trust me sweetheart" he says softly running his fingers through my hair.

I grab his hand halfway through "Ben if you mess up my hair Evie will kill you" I tell him smiling he chuckles.

"Did I tell you how beautiful you look right now?"

I laugh "yes you did I tell him but thank you." Evie really had put her heart into the lavender high necked dress I'm wearing she had also done my hair and makeup.

By this time we had arrived at the church and Ben offers his hand to help me out before handing me to an attendant. "Wish me luck Mal" he says kissing my cheek.

"Good luck" I tell him before he goes in. We wait for a moment or two before I'm lead in.

Guests file in as the place starts to fill and before long I'm watching proudly as Ben walks down the aisle and kneels in front of fairy godmother. I can't remember what she said because the moment she lifts the wand from Ben's shoulder someone else grabs it.

"Child what are you doing?" fairy godmother cries in shock as Jane backs away from her.

"If you won't make me beautiful I'll do it myself" Jane shoots back as she begins to wrestle with the wand. But either Jane's too young to know how to properly use her magic or the wand knows what she's trying to do with it because it shoots out a bolt of magic toward the ceiling.
"Take cover" King Adam roars ducking as I step up to Jane and wrestle the wand from her.

"Mal…." Ben says as Evie and the boys run up.

"Ben you need to stay away from me" I tell him the barrier has been broken my mother will be here any second.

"I told you" I hear Audrey scream spitefully but I don't take my eyes off Ben.
"Sweetheart…..remember what I told you…..you don't have to do this, just give it to me" Ben says gently taking a step towards me.

"Ben the barriers been broken she's coming you're the first person she will be after just stay back" I cry frantically

"Mal I'll be ok just give me the wand' Ben says again.

"Ben…" but before I can finish the stained glass windows are completely smashed in and dark green smoke fills the room

"I'm back" my mother cackles appearing in the middle of the room.

"Go away mother" I tell her but she just laughs.

"Oh your funny come on wand me chop chop" she tells me I glance down at the wand then back at her.

"No" I say firmly just as King Adam charges toward her but the entire room freezes before he can even reach halfway.

"Oh I wish" she says happily running her hand down his arm.

"No?" she asks "your funny Mal come on give me the wand" she tells me again as she walks over to Ben and tilts his crown, "and I think we'll start by getting rid of this." She waves her hand and my ring appears on her hand "perfect fit" she cackles. "Falling in love is weak and ridicules…..its not what you want."

"How would you know? Mother have you ever once asked me what I want?" I ask her my voice cracking because I know the answer she hasn't asked me in sixteen years. "I'm not you."

"Of course not I've had years of practice to get where I am now give me the wand!" she snaps starting to get angry. Am I really going to do this? I glance over at Ben. Yes yes I am.

"No!" I snap.

"What?!" she cries angrily and starts pacing "I think this is…very stupid…and immature" "you will regret this!" she screams as smoke engulfs her and a furious evil dragon appears.

She roars angrily and lunges towards Ben "NO!" I scream flinging her against the wall. "Leave. Ben. Alone". I snarl at her as she gets up. She roars furiously and lunges toward the four of us but Evie uses her mirror to blind her for a moment and I use that time to push her behind me.

"Leave them alone!" I yell at her. "This is between you and me mother" I snap she glares at me and both our eyes glow green. I know what she's doing and I also know that if I lose everything good that Ben has worked so hard for will be destroyed. I call up every good memory I have with my siblings, every moment I've spent with Ben and finally mother disappears in dark purple smoke.

The darkness surrounding the room disappears as everyone unfreezes and we all stare down at the tiny gecko in my mother's place. "Did I do that?" I mutter

"No no your mother did" fairy godmother explains as she hurries over "she shrunk to the size of the love in her heart, that's why she's so….itty bitty."

"Will she be like that forever?" I ask as we both crouch down.

"Well…forever is a long time …you learned to love so can she" fairy godmother tells me gently. I give her a small smile before holding the wand out.

"I think this belongs to you"

Fairy godmother smiles "and I believe this she says picking up my ring from the floor belongs to you." I smile gently in thanks as she hands it to me and slip it on. We stand and she smiles at all of us. "You have all earned yourselves an A in goodness class."

We all chuckle but mine gets cut off as I hear Ben's roar "ok ok ok it's ok" I tell him catching a hold of him as he charges toward me. He smiles and spins me round in a hug. I giggle.

"Next time I save you" he mutters against my shoulder after he puts me down still holding me tightly.

"Let's hope there's not a next time" I murmur running my fingers threw his hair and resting my head on his shoulder. Closing my eyes.

But whether he knows it or not Ben has already saved me in every way he can. And no matter what happens I can never thank him enough and will always love him for that.
