Hello, my lovely readers. I know that I wrote that I would update this story every month which was my intention when I began to post it but as most of us know real life tends to get in the way of the best of intentions. Therefore I hope this chapter is worth the very long wait.
Chapter 5: Women in Glass Slippers Shouldn't Wield Swords
Standing in between Damon Salvatore and Klaus Mikaelson, Elena Gilbert held the sword in front of her. She may be human now but that didn't mean she couldn't fight back. And she would help her friends. "Stop!" She yelled at the pirates gaining their attention. When all the pirates drew their own swords, Elena gulped. Klaus and Damon just smirked at the pirates.
"You ready, mate?" Klaus asked Damon with his eyes on the pirates in front of him.
"It's just another day in our lives, right?" Damon chuckled as they moved forward and began to dodge as the pirates attempted to stab them. They may not have their old speed and strength. But that did not mean they couldn't fight. Damon grinned as he punched a pirate in the face.
Klaus pulled another to his feet and grabbed his sword from him, throwing it to Bonnie, who came to aid them along with Stefan. Grabbing the hilt of the sword, Bonnie nodded quickly at Klaus before running off to rescue an older couple from a particularly aggressive pirate. "Do your worst!" Klaus challenged the pirates before he charged at them, changing his visage to that of a wolf.
Elena was trying to not actually stab any of the pirates just as Katherine unsheathed her sword and came after her. "Of course," Elena muttered, dodging as Katherine attempted skewer her. Elena wondered where Caroline was.
Caroline was trying to hide from the action when a pirate grabbed her from behind. "Ah, you're a mighty fine lass." He whispered in her ear. "I think I'll take you back to the ship with me."
"Ew," Caroline grunted as she elbowed the man in the gut and then she kicked him in the shin. Whirling around, she grabbed her gown and ripped in up the side before she punched him on the chin and kneed him in the groin. Breathing hard, she felt great as she grabbed his sword.
Spinning around on her heel, she saw the Salvatore brothers back to back fighting the pirates as one. They were taking care of each other. The young brunette was fighting her look alike. But she was holding her own, too. Finding Klaus, she bit her lip, seeing him surrounded by pirates. Two of the pirates dragged him to his knees and were holding him down as another came forward a sword.
Caroline's eyes widened. They were going to behead him. Running as fast as she could, she elbowed people out of her way. The Pirate raised his sword over Klaus' head, who was glaring up at him murderously. Without thinking, Caroline swiftly plunged her sword through the man's heart and gasped as he dropped to the floor. "Oh."
Klaus instantly jumped to his feet as the other two pirates let go of him. He grabbed the two and slammed their heads together. Caroline could only stare at the bloodied sword in horror as Klaus came to her side. "Caroline, we need to go."
She allowed him to pull her along with him as the others continued their battle. Before she knew it they were running out the front doors of the palace and he took the sword, throwing it aside. When he found a horse, he picked Caroline up and sat her atop before hopping on behind her. Feeling her head become heavy from all the excitement, Caroline surrendered to the darkness as Klaus held her firmly to him.
As Caroline slept peacefully in his arms, Klaus wasn't sure what caused him to take a turn and head down a certain path through the woods. Arriving at a gate, he jumped down, and carried Caroline through the front gate, through the open doorway of the new palace. Carrying her upstairs, he laid her down on a bed. Walking back out of the room, he dug inside his jacket pocket and found a key.
Staring at the door and then the key, Klaus found himself slipping it into the lock and turning it. Hearing the lock click into place, Klaus felt a certain amount of peace as he jogged back down the stairs and to the front gate. He pulled it closed and as he walked away he didn't see it become overgrown with ivy. He didn't notice as the path behind him became covered in dead leaves and bramble as he moved to the front door. He locked it as well.
As he walked through the house he did not notice the yellowing of the curtains as he closed them. He did not see the dust appearing. The one thing he noticed as he came to stand before a mirror was that he needed a shave.
However, as he stood in front of the mirror his body began to change in shape and he slammed his fist into it. He did not need to see what the demon inside looked like. He already knew. This was not the face or the body that would win the love of Caroline. But this was his true face. The one he had hidden for so long.
Back at the Salvatore Palace:
"You fight like a girl," Katherine taunted.
Elena rolled her eyes. "Whatever," She snapped. "Do you ever get bored with the sound of you own voice."
Katherine sneered. "Never. Although I can't understand why anyone would want to hear yours." Shooting forward she attempted to stab Elena again.
"Just give up and go home already," Elena yelled. She was tired of this. All she wanted was to dance with Damon and get the hell out of here. Then she heard the clock begin to toll. "Oh, no," She cried.
"Something wrong? Princess." Katherine snarled taking advantage of Elena's split focus. She sliced Elena's shoulder with her sword, cutting one of the straps of Elena's gown off.
"You're going to pay for that," Elena shot forward with her own sword waiting for Katherine to dodge when she threw the sword into her other hand and hit the other woman in the head with the hilt, knocking her out. Satisfied with her work, Elena began to run through the crowd. She had to leave before the whole thing was ruined.
"Elena," Damon called, running after her to be blocked by more pirates. She felt one of her shoes come off and she didn't stop to retrieve it. Instead she jerked the remaining one off and ran with it in her hand. Weaving through the crowd, she barely made it to the safety of the coach. 'And away we go,' she thought glumly as the coach sped back toward the cottage.
"Please, let Damon find me again." Elena whispered to the darkness as she watched the trees fly past her.
Inside the Palace:
Damon was pissed. He had waited all day for a dance with his girl and that was ruined by these stupid pirates. He began to punch and kick wildly at them, feeling contented every time he heard a bone crack. "Get out of my party, you jackasses."
"That's not very G rated of you, brother." Stefan called with a grin.
"Shut up," Damon yelled at his brother, decking another pirate. At that moment the palace guards finally appeared and the remaining pirates fled. Glaring at their backs, Damon began to seethe. "What, are you scared of them because they have weapons? You are so lucky you're not in my world or you would see what scary really looks like."
"Where's Elena?" Bonnie asked as she jogged over. "Or Klaus and Caroline?" Stefan and Damon looked around.
"Shit," Damon snapped and throwing down the sword he picked up in case, there was more trouble. "The crazy hybrid must have used the chaos to grab Blondie."
Alaric came up to them. "Are you all alright?"
"Yeah, we're fine." Damon replied. "How 'bout you and Jenna?"
"Jenna's here?" Bonnie asked.
Damon nodded. "Yeah, she's around here somewhere."
"I sent her back to her room when the pirates arrived. I would not want my future wife to be murdered," Ric told them before he realized what he had said. "That is if your father gives us permission to marry."
Shaking his head, Damon grinned. "He will. I'll talk to him for you. Anyway, I need to go find Elena." Walking across the room, he picked up the glass slipper and rolled his eyes. "Yeah, great clue, Gilbert." Shaking his head, he began to stride toward the door.
"Damon, wait." Bonnie called. "You can't go after Elena yet."
"What?" Damon said, he turned to stare down at Bonnie, his eyebrows furrowing. "I don't care how the story goes. I'm not going to just sit around this palace waiting for her to just show up or to be allowed to go get her." He turned around and began to walk away.
Bonnie grabbed his sleeve. "Damon. This is important to Elena. She wants to have a happily ever after."
Stopping, Damon just stood there staring at the doors. "I need her, Bonnie."
"I know. Okay. I know. But just give it a little time." Bonnie told him quietly as people began to exit the ball.
Damon hung his head. "Alright. What do you suggest we do about Klaus and Caroline?"
Bonnie inhaled deeply. "I think they have their own story to get through."
Turning to look down at the former witch, Damon shrugged. "What about you two? Do you have your own personal quests to go on?"
Stefan shrugged. "Kol told me I'm a lost boy. So, yeah, I guess I have some stuff to go back and figure out."
Bonnie hesitated. "I want to find my grandmother. If I can."
Damon nodded. "Good luck. I guess I'll see you two around. Be careful." He turned around to walk upstairs. "And if you're ever if trouble come to the palace."
Stefan and Bonnie walked out of the palace together to go in search of their own adventures. Stopping in the doorway, Stefan nodded at Bonnie. "Good luck." He told her.
Bonnie nodded. "You, too."
They began to walk in two separate directions. Getting ten feet away from each other, they both turned at the same time. "You know I-" They both began.
"Yeah," Bonnie began to laugh at the embarrased look on Stefan's face. "I was thinking the same thing." Taking his arm, they began to walk down the path wondering what new adventures awaited them.
"So, are we going to find your Grams or Kol first?" Stefan asked with a grin.
"Definitely Grams." Bonnie replied with a quick nod. "Frankly, I'm not sure I can look at Kol in those shorts for too long without try to swim away."
"Maybe you'll turn into a mermaid," Stefan joked as Bonnie swatted him.
"I do not want to be stuck with fins," Bonnie rolled her eyes at the thought.
"But you would be cute with those little seashell things," Stefan teased holding his hands in front of his chest.
Bonnie blushed and smacked him. "You're beginning to sound like Damon." She accused.
"What?" Stefan pressed his hand over his chest in mock shame. "Really?"
Bonnie smiled as she took Stefan's hand and they walked down their new path.
At the Little Cottage:
Elena stepped out of the coach and watched as it turned back into a pumpkin with a sigh. Turning her back, she walked inside the cottage and gasped. Inside waiting for her was a very pissed off Katherine. "Hello, there Elena. You know I just came over to the Salvatore's to steal some stuff from the attic to sell it on E-Bay for a plane ticket to Cabo when the funniest thing happened and I got stuck in this stupid place."
"Weren't you just at the palace?" Elena asked, confused.
"Yeah, pirates are lame," Katherine shrugged. "You got food in here somewhere?"
Elena shook her head. "You got kicked out by the pirates, didn't you?" She began to laugh when Katherine poked her in her wounded shoulder.
"Ow," Elena rubbed her shoulder.
"Let's go." Katherine snapped.
"Huh," Elena replied.
"We need food," Katherine snapped.
"And you plan on doing what about that?" Elena snapped at Katherine.
"We're going to get food. Duh! Did you fall on your head when you got dumped into this world?" Katherine didn't wait for a response as she walked out the door and onto the path.
When they walked outside Elena's and Katherine's jaws dropped as they saw Elijah and Rebekah Mikaelson turning around staring at things around them.
"Where in the bloody hell are we?" Rebekah growled before she spotted the dopplegangers. "Oh, great. We're in hell."
Okay, so I have one more chapter written for next month that I will try to post around the beginning of September. Then I will try to write a new chapter and post it on TVD's premiere day, Oct. 6, 2014.
Answers to reviews:
Alexis2106: Thank you. I try to be a genius. Sometimes it seems like my version of genius is synomous with wacky.
Jessinicole: Yes, poor Caroline.
Rose: In this story I think that Klaus and Caroline will figure things out eventually. That's kind of why they're in this alternate universe to figure out their crap and hopefully to fall in love.
JuseaPeterson: Thank you. In some ways this was one of the most difficult of worlds to create due to fairy tales being very vague in my mind since I haven't read one since I quite young. I hope you enjoy this chapter and the rest of the story.
Forbesfabulous: I hope you enjoyed the Klaroline.
.writer: Thank you. Every choice for a TVD character to become one of the fairy tale characters is very intentional but also hard to remember sometimes. ;)
Peace,
Jessica
