Conan POV
"Conan, stop reading that book and get changed! We're going to be late!" Ran yelled at me. Man, I didn't feel like going through this crap at all. I would much rather stay home to read my new book. Sonoko had invited us to a presentation party of her parents' company. By us, I mean Ran and her father, Masumi Sera, Subaru Okiya and of course me. Subaru was invited because Sonoko had her eyes on him, if only she knew that this person didn't actually exist. The thought made me grin. "Stop grinning and hurry up," I was admonished again by Ran. "Yes, yes, I'm done already," I answered her. As if we would miss anything if we arrived a few minutes late. After about 30 minutes we arrived at a hotel. Subaru was already waiting for us.
I hope this will go well, I thought to myself. After all, behind the disguise of Subaru Okiya is the FBI agent Shuichi Akai, which only his boss James Black knew, apart from me. Akai is also Masumi's older brother. I just hope she doesn't suspect anything, because she also thinks that Akai is actually dead. When we arrived inside, Sonoko immediately greeted us and started talking rubbish, but I didn't really listen to her. Only in passing did I hear her tell Ran that she had sent Shinichi, in other words me, an invitation and gave her hope that I might come. But that would never happen, after all, I was now Conan and I would not become Shinichi again so quickly. Haibara still couldn't find a way to make the antidote last longer than 24 hours.
"Shinichi, is it really you?" Ran suddenly asked and I looked at her in a slight panic. She didn't look at me, though, but ran towards the bar. Why is she calling my name like that here? I was standing right next to her and still as Conan, so she could hardly have seen me. The rest of us followed her. When we reached her, I was confused. Shinichi was standing in front of us, together with a woman I estimated to be in her early 20s. Shinichi is me! Who was that? Was it someone from the organisation or that wretched phantom thief? However, it didn't make sense why Kaito Kid would appear here in disguise as Shinichi Kudo. He had neither sent a letter of announcement nor was there anything of interest here. Normally he only ever steals jewellery and none was on display here but on the other hand he had already disguised himself as Shinichi a few times. Strangely enough, he never needed a mask to disguise himself as me because our facial features are strangely similar. Akai looked at me in irritation. By now he knew that I was Shinichi Kudo in reality, so he must have realised that this Shinichi who was standing opposite us could be someone from the organisation.
"Oh Ran, it's you. Good to see you." I replied, no, this fake Shinichi. "Why didn't you tell me you were coming? Where have you been all this time? And who is that next to you?" Ran bombarded him with questions. It was obvious that all these questions would be asked again. Personally, I don't get asked these questions, but nevertheless I was slightly annoyed by them, just like the last times I had talked to her on the phone. Of course I understood that she was looking for answers but hearing these questions over and over again was just annoying. "I decided at short notice," he replied curtly. "Shin-chan, aren't you going to introduce me to your friends?" his companion asked him in a sweet voice, leaning a little against him. The two looked quite close and I could see how much that irritated Ran. "Um ... " came only from the guy before he was interrupted by Ran. "My name is Ran Mori. This is my father Kogoro Mori, my friends Sonoko Suzuki and Masumi Sera. The young man next to my father is Subaru Okiya and the little one is Conan Edogawa." Ran introduced everyone to her. I noticed that the woman's gaze darkened at the name Masumi Sera for a moment that was no longer than a second. Was there a connection between the woman and Sera? "Pleased to meet you all. I am Sora Kiriyama," she introduced herself.
I wonder if that's her real name. I couldn't help but notice that when she said her name, her eyes were on me. She crouched down to seem to be at eye level with me. "You're cute." she said and took a quick look around at what the others were doing. When she was sure that no one was paying attention to us because they were all concentrating on the wrong Shinichi, she whispered something in my ear. "Pleased to make your acquaintance my dear high school detective Shinichi Kudo." I was shocked. She knew who I was. She knew my true identity. Who is she? Is she part of the organisation? Does the organisation know that I did not die but shrank? These questions and more ran through my head. She stood up again and fixed her gaze on Sera. But I didn't care about that now. I also didn't care that Ran was talking to this guy, whoever he was. I only wanted to know one thing. Who was this woman and was she part of the enemy?
"Could you stop with your endless interrogation, it's extremely annoying. Shin-chan and I are here to have a good time, not to be questioned," Sora said irritably, snapping me out of my thoughts. Sora grabbed this Shinichi and went with him to the bar. Ran was close to tears, which I was very sorry about, but at the moment there was nothing I could do. I could hardly tell her that the Shinichi from before was not the real one. Ran disappeared with Sonoko and Sera towards the toilets and I pulled Subaru to the side so that Kogoro couldn't hear us. "What was that about?" he asked me immediately. "I don't know but that Sora knows my true identity. She knows I'm Shinichi Kudo, that's what she whispered in my ear." I explained to him and I was still slightly shocked by that. "Is she one of them?" he wanted to know, to which I told him that I couldn't rule it out but couldn't confirm it either. "We should find out who this guy was," I said firmly. Yes, I wanted to know who was impersonating me.
Akai and I looked for this guy and after a while we found him walking towards the exit. We followed him and just before he reached the exit Akai pulled him aside into a corner so that we could confront him. "A wonderful evening to you, my little detective. Unfortunately I have to leave this party already but I'm sure we'll see each other again soon in the moonlight," he rambled, making it easy for me to see that it was really Kaito Kid. After his little speech, he tried to free himself to escape. "What's with the disguise Kid? Who was that woman? And the last question why are you in such a hurry all of a sudden?" I wanted to know from him even though I didn't have high hopes that he would answer these questions with the truth. "It's not only me who should be in a hurry to get away from here..." he started to tell me.
