Melemele Island Grand Trial (Part One)
As the group headed towards Iki Town, they trained their Pokemon for their big battle with Kahuna Hala. Sarah spent her time training her new Petilil, and she soon learned Mega Drain. Ed's Dartrix learned Foresight, his Yungoos learned Bite, his Grimer learned Poison Fang. His Furfrou also got stronger. Edd's Brionne learned Encore, his Trumbeak got stronger, his Spinarak learned Shadow Sneak, and his Magnemite learned Sonic Boom. Eddy's Torracat learned Roar, his Grubbin learned Spark, his Meowth learnd Fury Swipes and Screech, his Ekans learned Bite, Glare, and Screech, and his Noibat learned Bite and Wing Attack. Sarah's Chansey and Ledian became stronger, and her Mr Mime, or Mrs Mime as she calls her, learned Encore. Jimmy's Lucario became stronger, his Butterfree learned Silver Wind, his Inkay learned Hypnosis, and his Pichu learned Thunder Wave. Sometime later, Jimmy's Pichu suddenly began to glow.
"Everyone! My Pichu's evolving!" said Jimmy. The Eds and Sarah run over to Jimmy to watch the evolution. When Pichu was done evolving, he was bigger, his ears were longer and black-tipped, and his tail was shaped like a lightning bolt. The Rotom Pokedex flies out of Edd's backpack and flies over to the newly evolved Pichu.
"Pikachu, the Mouse Pokemon, and the evolved form of Pichu. While sleeping, it generates electricity in the sacs in its cheeks. If it's not getting enough sleep, it will be able to use only weak electricity." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"Congratulations on another evolution, Jimmy." said Edd. Jimmy looked at his new Pikachu's data on the Rotom Pokedex.
"This says that Pikachu also now knows Quick Attack, and Electro Ball." said Jimmy. He then goes over to his new Pikachu and hugs him. After that, everyone returns their Pokemon to their pokeballs, and continue on their way. They soon reached the familiar sight of Route 1.
"It seems just like yesterday we went through here to get our first Pokemon." said Edd.
"Yeah. Good memories." said Eddy.
"I remember when I caught my first Pokemon here." said Jimmy.
"Me, too." said Sarah. After some recollection. they walk down Route 1 until they reach Iki Town. There they see a large crowd of people at the center of town around the stage. Also, on the stage they see Kahuna Hala, who smiles and waves at the Eds, Sarah, and Jimmy, when he sees them.
"Alola, kids." said Kahuna Hala.
"Alola, Kahuna Hala." said Edd.
"I heard from Captain Ilima that you all passed your Verdant Cavern trial." said Kahuna Hala.
"You bet your sweet bippy we did." said Ed.
"Congratulations on doing so." said Kahuna Hala.
"We're ready for our Grand Trial, sir." said Edd.
"I figured as much." said Kahuna Hala. "So who's going first?"
"I will!" replied Sarah, waving a hand. Kahuna Hala smiles in response.
"Very well. Let's begin our battle." said Kahuna Hala. Sarah climbs onto the stage while the Eds and Jimmy stand near it. Sarah and Kahuna Hala are on opposite ends of the stage, facing each other. A woman steps onto a side of the stage.
"This Grand Trial will be between Kahuna Hala, and the trial-goer, Sarah." said the woman. "Each side will use three Pokemon. The battle will end when one trainer's Pokemon are unable to battle. Whoever still has Pokemon remaining will be the winner. Let this Grand Trial begin." The woman steps off the stage while Kahuna Hala and Sarah each pull out a pokeball.
"Go, Machop!" said Kahuna Hala, throwing a pokeball and releasing a Machop.
"Why, I haven't seen a Machop since Sinnoh." said Edd. "I wonder what the Rotom Pokedex has to say about it." He pulls the Rotom Pokedex out of his backpack and points it at Machop.
"Machop, the Superpower Pokemon. It likes food that's highly nutritious because its instincts drive it to build muscle efficiently." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"Sounds like Machops are healthy eaters." said Edd.
"Let's go, Mrs Mime." said Sarah, throwing Mrs. Mime's pokeball and releasing her.
"So you're calling Mr. Mime, Mrs. Mime?" asked Kahuna Hala.
"Yeah. It seemed stupid to call a female Pokemon mister." said Sarah. "Okay, Mrs Mime, Barrier!" Mrs Mime waves her hands and a square, glass like barrier appears in front of her, increasing her defense.
"Well played. Machop, use Karate Chop!" said Kahuna Hala. Machop leaps at Mrs. Mime and karate chops her, but not doing much damage due to fairy and psychic type Pokemon being resistant to fighting type moves and Barrier strengthening Mrs. Mime's defense.
"Mrs. Mime, Psywave!" said Sarah. Mrs. Mime holds her hands out forward and releases a white ring out of them and it hits Machop, dealing super effective damage to it due to fighting type Pokemon being weak against psychic type attacks.
"Machop, Revenge!" said Kahuna Hala. Machop becomes surrounded by orange energy and it releases a beam of it and it hits Mrs. Mime, but not doing much damage to her.
"Mrs. Mime, Mediate!" said Sarah. Mrs. Mime sits on the ground and begins to mediate. She becomes surrounded by a white aura and her arms bulk up.
"Machop, Focus Energy!" said Kahuna Hala. Machop becomes surrounded by a red aura.
"Double Slap!" said Sarah. Mrs. Mime runs at Machop and begins slapping it. Because of Meditate, Double Slap was much stronger than it normally was. On the fifth and final slap, Machop falls to the ground with swirly eyes.
"Machop is unable to battle. Mr Mime..." said the woman.
"MRS MIME!" exclaimed Sarah, startling the woman.
"Sorry, Mrs. Mime is the winner." said the woman.
"You did it, Mrs. Mime." said Sarah. Mrs. Mime claps. Kahuna Hala returns Machop to its pokeball.
"You did well, Machop." said Kahuna Hala. He puts Machop's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Makuhita, go!" He throws the pokeball and releases a yellow, bulky Pokemon with black hands and an orange ring on each of its cheeks. Edd points the Rotom Pokedex at the pokemon.
"Makuhita, the Guts Pokemon. There's a rumor of a traditional recipe for stew that Trainers can use to raise strong Makuhita." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"Makuhita, Fake Out!" said Kahuna Hala. Makuhita punches its hands together and releases a shockwave and it hits Mrs Mime, not doing much damage, but making her flinch. "Now use Sand Attack!" Makuhita pounds the ground and releases sand from it onto Mrs. Mime's eyes, lowering her accuracy.
"Mrs. Mime, Psywave!" said Sarah. Mrs Mime releases another Psywave, but misses Makuhita.
"Sand Attack lowers a Pokemon's accuracy, Sarah." said Edd.
"That won't stop us!" said Sarah. Edd nods in apporval.
"I like your determination, young lady." said Kahuna Hala. "Makuhita, Arm Thrust!" Makuhita leaps at Mrs. Mime and strikes her repeatedly with her hands, but not doing much damage.
"Confusion!" said Sarah. Mrs. Mime's eyes glow light blue. Makuhita becomes surrounded by a blue aura and gets slammed onto the stage, being dealt super effective damage. Makuhita begins stumbling around.
"Looks like Makuhita's confused." said Edd.
"Makuhita, use Arm Thrust again." said Kahuna Hala. Unfortunately for him, confusion got the better of Makuhita and it hits itself repeatedly.
"Psywave!" said Sarah. Mrs. Mime releases another Psywave and it hits Makuhita this time. It falls to the ground, unconscious.
"Makuhita is unable to battle. Mr...I mean, Mrs. Mime is the winner." said the woman.
"Yay!" cheered Sarah.
"Mime!" cheered Mrs Mime. Kahuna Hala returns Makuhita to its pokeball.
"You did well, Makuhita." said Kahuna Hala. He looks at Sarah. "I see the Eds taught you well, Sarah." He puts Makuhita's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "But lets see if Mrs. Mime can beat Crabrawler." He throws the pokeball and releases a Crabrawler. "Crabrawler, Leer!" Crabrawler's eyes glow blue and weakens Mrs. Mime's defense.
"Mrs. Mime, Confusion!" said Sarah. Mrs. Mime tried to use Confusion on Crabrawler, but misses due to her accuracy being lowered.
"Power-Up Punch!" said Kahuna Hala. Crabrawler's pincer becomes surrounded by a golden aura and it punches Mrs Mime, making her stagger back, dealing a little more damage due to Mrs Mime's defense being weakened. Crabrawler's body begins to bulk up.
"I remember Power-Up Punch. It increases the attack of the Pokemon that uses it." said Eddy.
"Mrs. Mime, Psywave!" said Sarah. Mrs. Mime releases a Psywave and it hits Crabrawler, dealing super effective damage.
"Use Power-Up Punch again!" said Kahuna Hala. Crabrawler leaps at Mrs. Mime and punches her harder than the first time, knocking her to the ground with swirly eyes.
"Mrs. Mime!" exclaimed Sarah.
"Mrs. Mime is unable to battle. Crabrawler is the winner." said the woman.
"Well done, Crabrawler." said Kahuna Hala. Crabrawler raises its pincers. Sarah returns Mrs Mime to her pokeball.
"I'm proud of you, Mrs. Mime." said Sarah. She puts Mrs. Mime's pokeball away and pulls out another one while glaring at Crabrawler, making it nervous.
"This Pokemon will teach you for what you did to Mrs. Mime!" said Sarah. "Ledian, go!" She throws Ledian's pokeball and releases her. "Mach Punch!" Ledian flies at Crabrawler with incredible speed and punches it, knocking it back.
"Use Leer!" said Kahuna Hala. Crabrawler's eyes glow blue and weakens Ledian's defense.
"Supersonic!" said Sarah. Ledian releases soundwaves onto Crabrawler. It began stumbling around, confused.
"Try using Power-Up Punch!" said Kahuna Hala. Unfortunately, confusion got the better of Crabrawler and it punches itself across its face.
"Swift!" said Sarah. Ledian releases stars and they hit Crabrawler. It struggles to remain standing.
"Power-Up Punch!" said Kahuna Hala. This time, Crabrawler punches Ledian back, doing a moderate amount of damage due to her defense being weakened and Crabrawler's strength being increased.
"Mach Punch one more time!" said Sarah. Ledian flies at Crabrawler and punches it across the face, knocking it to the ground with swirly eyes.
"Crabrawler!" exclaimed Kahuna Hala.
"Crabrawler is unable to battle. Ledian wins. The winner of this grand trial is Sarah." said the woman.
"We did it!" cheered Sarah. Ledian flies around, happily.
"Way to go, baby sister!" cheered Ed.
"You go, girl!" said Jimmy. Kahuna Hala returns Crabrawler to its pokeball.
"You fought well, Crabrawler." said Kahuna Hala. He puts Crabrawler's pokeball away and walks over to Sarah. "You have raised your Pokemon well, Sarah."
"Thanks." replied Sarah. Kahuna Hala reaches into his shorts pocket and pulls out an orange Z-Crystal that had the image of a fist in it.
"And you also win this." said Kahuna Hala.
"Is that a Z-Crystal?" asked Sarah.
"Yes. Fightinium Z to be exact." replied Kahuna Hala. "To activate it, do this pose." He holds out both fists forward, then begins punching the air, and finally bringing a fist forward. "The name of the Z Move is All-Out Pummeling."
"That sounds neat." said Sarah.
"May I see your Trainer's Passport?" asked Kahuna Hala. Sarah pulls her passport out of her pocket and gives it to Kahuna Hala. He opens the passport to a blank page. He pulls a rubber stamp out of his shirt pocket and stamps the page, leaving a symbol on it. "This symbol shows that you passed the Grand Trial. Congratulations." He give the Fightinium Z, passport, along with pokedollars to Sarah.
"I guess you get stamps instead of badges here in Alola." said Edd. Sarah walks over to the Eds and Jimmy.
"I did it, you guys." said Sarah.
"Congratulations, Sarah." said Edd. Kahuna Hala walks over to them.
"So which of you will be facing me next?" asked Kahuna Hala. Jimmy steps forward and up onto the stage.
"I'll battle next." said Jimmy.
"Very well." said Kahuna Hala. "Let me get my Pokemon healed first, then we'll battle."
"I'm gonna get my Pokemon treated also." said Sarah.
"Okay." said Jimmy. Kahuna Hala and Sarah head to Hau'oli City to get their Pokemon treated at the Pokemon Center while Jimmy goes over Sarah's battle and picks which Pokemon he was going to use in his battle. Twenty minutes later, Kahuna Hala and Sarah return, and Kahuna Hala climbs up onto the stage, while Sarah stands with the Eds.
"Are you ready to battle, young Jimmy?" asked Kahuna Hala.
"Yes, sir." said Jimmy. The woman steps onto a side of the stage.
"This Grand Trial will be between Kahuna Hala, and the trial-goer, Jimmy." said the woman. "Each side will use three Pokemon. The battle will end when one trainer's Pokemon are unable to battle. Whoever still has Pokemon remaining will be the winner. Let this Grand Trial begin." The woman steps off the stage while Kahuna Hala and Jimmy each pull out a pokeball.
"Machop, I choose you." said Kahuna Hala as he releases his Machop.
"Butterfree, I choose you." said Jimmy as he releases his Butterfree. "Okay, Butterfree. Use Gust!" Butterfree releases a strong gust of wind which hits Machop, doing super effective damage, and knocking him back.
"Machop, use Karate Chop!" said Kahuna Hala. Machop jumps at Butterfree and hits him with a Karate Chop, barely doing any real damage due to Butterfree being part flying, along with part bug.
"Butterfree, use Confusion!" said Jimmy. Butterfree's eyes glowed blue and an aura of the same color covered Machop and lifts it up into the air. It was sent crashing to the stage's floor where it passes out.
"Machop is unable to battle. Butterfree is the winner." said the woman.
"Good work, Butterfree!" said Jimmy, making Butterfree smile. Kahuna Hala returns Machop to its pokeball.
"You did your best, Machop." said Kahuna Hala. He pulls out another one and throws it, releasing his Makuhita.
"Careful, Jimmy." said Edd. "That Makuhita knows some good moves." Jimmy looks at Edd and nods.
"Makuhita, use Fake Out!" said Kahuna Hala. Makuhita runs at Butterfree and claps its hands in his face, surprising him and making him flinch. "Now use Sand Attack!" Makuhita flings some sand towards Butterfree.
"Butterfree; dodge and use Psybeam!" said Jimmy. Butterfree manages to dodge the Sand Attack and releases a beam of pink energy from his body which hits Makuhita, and does super effective damage.
"Hurry, Makuhita. Use Arm Thrust!" said Kahuna Hala. Makuhita hits Butterfree with a barrage of palm thrusts, not doing much damage.
"Butterfree, use Tackle!" said Jimmy. Butterfree flies at Makuhita and rams into it, sending it flying off the stage where it passes out.
"Makuhita is unable to battle. Butterfree is the winner." said the woman.
"Keep it up, Jimmy! Just one more to go!" said Eddy.
"Keep it up, Butterfree!" said Jimmy. Butterfree nods in response. Kahuna Hala returns Makuhita to its pokeball.
"You did well, Makuhita." said Kahuna Hala. He puts Makuhita's pokeball away and looks at Jimmy, then Sarah, with astonishment. 'These two are strong trainers, despite their ages and very little experience. The Eds have truly taught them well.' He then pulls out his last pokeball and throws it, releasing his Crabrawler.
"You can do it, Jimmy!" cheered Ed. Edd, Edd, and Sarah, also voice their support for Jimmy, making him smile. Kahuna Hala closes his eyes in concentration, then pulls up his sleeve, revealing a Z-Power Ring, surprising the Eds, Jimmy, and Sarah.
"He has a Z-Power Ring?!" asked Eddy.
"Why didn't he use it in our battle?" asked Sarah.
"Perhaps he underestimated you and didn't believe he would need it?" guessed Edd. Sarah smirked in response.
"Well that was a big mistake that costed him." said Sarah.
"Indeed, it did." said Kahuna Hala. "I will not make it again." He then starts doing a bunch of punches, building up energy around him which flows into Crabrawler, making the Z-Power symbol appear in front of it.
"Watch it! I believe a Z-Move is coming!" said Edd.
"Indeed, it is." said Kahuna Hala. "Crabrawler! Use All-Out Pummeling!" Crabrawler then unleashes a barrage of fist-shaped, masses of orange energy, which all strike Butterfree, making him fall to the ground. But to Kahuna Hala's surprise, Butterfree slowly flies up and floats around in the air, still ready to fight.
"Even though it was a Z-Move, All-Out Pummeling is still a fighting type move, and Butterfree can handle them." said Edd.
"I'm amazed that Butterfree took all that and still be able to battle!" said Kahuna Hala.
"That's right! We won't give up!" said Jimmy. "Butterfree, use Psybeam!" Butterfree hits Crabrawler with a Psybeam attack, doing super effective damage. Crabrawler starts to stumble around, all dizzily.
"Crabrawler's confused!" said Ed. Kahuna Hala looked a little nervous.
"Hurry, Crabrawler! Use Power-Up Punch!" said Kahuna Hala. Crabrawler tried to use Power-Up Punch, but confusion kicks in and it hits itself.
"Butterfree! Use Gust!" said Jimmy. Butterfree flaps his wings, releasing another Gust attack, which hits Crabrawler, and sends it flying into Kahuna Hala's arms, unconscious.
"Crabrawler is unable to battle. Butterfree is the winner. That means the winner of this grand trial is Jimmy!" said the woman.
"We did it!" said Jimmy. Butterfree flies into Jimmy's arms and snuggles his chest. Kahuna Hala returns Crabrawler to its pokeball.
"You did well, Crabrawler." said Kahuna Hala. He puts Crabrawler's pokeball away and walks over to Jimmy. "You and Butterfree are a strong team."
"Thank you, sir." said Jimmy. Kahuna Hala pulls another Fightinium-Z crystal, along with some pokedollars, and gives them to Jimmy. He then takes Jimmy's passport and puts a stamp on one of its pages.
"So, who am I battling next?" asked Kahuna Hala. Ed steps forward.
"Me!" said Ed.
"Very well. I will return when I get my Pokemon treated." said Kahuna Hala.
"I'm going to get my Pokemon healed, too." said Jimmy.
"Okay." said Ed. Kahuna Hala and Jimmy start to walk to Hau'oli City's Pokemon Center, leaving Ed to prepare for his Grand Trial.
