Sea's Guide: Ending 2
Hello everybody, this is the 2nd ending that was planned all along. The 1st ending was originally the 2nd ending but I changed the position because there is a little easter egg/tidbit story in my mind that I might wanna write about Ivan and Yao's life together after. Also, to take note that I added a line from the previous chapter as the cut off and that is: " "No…." Ivan started. "
But this is the end for this story.
2015-16 was the year I had a dream about a researcher chasing after his strange humanoid subject that escaped to the oceanarium. 2023 is the year I have completed this story. It is a long ride and I am very happy to write this off my checklist of stories to write.
Thank you thank you thank you soooo much to everybody who read this story. I really appreciate it 3!
"No…." Ivan started.
"Yada Yada Yada." William cut him off rudely. Then lifting up his sleeve to see the time, he reached out to the back of his pants underneath his coat and pulled out a gun. Pointing at Ivan, he ordered: "Bring that thing here."
Ivan hesitated, and William immediately followed it with a shot onto the ground near them. "Now!" he demanded.
"You're crazy."
"I'm crazy? Of course I am." William admitted. "You want to know something else? I really fucking hate you, but I guess it's not that obvious to you" He moved his gun towards Ivan's thigh and fired a shot, the bullet tunneled through his flesh and hit the metal stairs.
Ivan let out an agonizing groan, pressing his wound down, but the blood soon soaked up his pants. Wang Yao stares at the wound in shock and then angrily at William, snarling.
"But now I think I made myself loud and clear." William announced, looking contented, then turning his eyes at Yao, he continued: "And what did I said to you? I said that Ivan is going to die if you refuse to do anything we said, did I not? Now the next shot will go straight into his brain, you know where the brain is? Here." William tapped on his temple, then a smile stretch across his face. "Now come here." he beckons to Yao.
Wang Yao look on worriedly at Ivan then back at William, tentatively it broke free of his grip from Ivan.
"Yao, no." Ivan stuttered, reaching out and holding onto Yao's arms.
With a pained expression, Wang Yao tear Ivan's touch away and walk towards William, whose smile have already turned into straight out laughter. "Oh my god, this is funniest thing I have seen in a while. Gosh. The look on your face, Ivan! I love it!"
"You must be wondering what in the world have happened." William continued, "Let's see, should I let you know about it? I mean, why not right?" His hand placing on Yao's shoulder, his eyes straight on Ivan. "Your little friend here….." he muttered, glancing at the watch on his wrist again, "You know what? I don't feel like saying it anymore." Then he aimed his shot at Ivan's heart and fired.
Sharp, groaning intake of air echoes through the empty room, cutting through the bubbling and humming sounds of the equipment. Wang Yao gasped at the turn of event, he doesn't understand why humans keep taking away the people he love, even though…. Even though he have already done everything they have asked.
"Ivan!" Yao cried out, instinctively tried to run back to the wounded man.
"Watch where you're going." William growled; his fingers dug into the flesh of Yao's neck. The humanoid squirm against the researcher's grip. "I guess it's a good thing that you're a fucking idiot. One name and you would do every single thing, but now there's no need to use that vile name to lie to you anymore, I reckon you are ripe enough for the vivisection."
"Let go of me!" Yao struggled.
"We are going this way." William said lightly, turning around, and quieting Yao by pressing the gun on his temple. "Stop moving."
A sudden shadow flashed on the floor in front of William that prompted him to turn around. "You're not dea-argh." He managed before he was tackled onto the ground by Ivan, the crash toppled over the furniture and the gun fell out of William's hand, bouncing away from them.
"You're too slow." Ivan spoke between gritted teeth and started punching against the face below him. The shot to his heart was misaligned and hit the shoulder muscles just below his collarbone, the wound poured out blood like dripping tap with each move Ivan took.
Frantic touching from the side, William managed to grab hold of a scalpel. The sharp blades slid across his palm, but he succeeded in gripping onto the handle. With a swing, the scalpel was stabbed into Ivan's arms, then just as William wanted to pull it down, his wrist was held on tightly by Ivan.
"You will die! The government will cover it up, and you will be wiped from the face of this world." William let out a strained bloody laugh. The struggle between them was stuck in a stalemate.
"That would be you." Ivan replied, and then Wang Yao who silently sneaked by their side, sinks his teeth into William's neck, ripping out red flesh and muscles, the bite tears the aorta and momentarily, William turned into a morbid sight of a human fountain as he gasped for breath in fear.
The blood drenched the duo, as Ivan fell backwards in exhaustion. Yao hurried to his side. "Ivan…"
"Let's get you back to the ocean now." Ivan let out, breathing hard. He pressed down hard on his chest, gritting his teeth: "Just give me a second to breathe."
Wang Yao sniffed; he tried closing his fingers to tear his palm but its not tearing it big enough, reaching out to the scalpel on the floor, he cut a large slash across his palm and place it on Ivan's chest.
But only bright, cherry red blood flows out from it, it meshes up with Ivan's blood, not doing anything much.
Ivan lifted Yao's hand up and frowned. "Why is it… red…?" but the ominous feeling in his heart is already apparent. "You need to go to the ocean now. Or maybe, maybe if there's any tap or fresh water here. No… No.. That would be too late. Let's go."
He took off his coat and tied it tightly on the wounds on his leg, then standing up he found some other cloth on one of the table and tied it on his arms and chest too. "This should be enough to last till the beach."
"Come on Yao, I'll bring you home." He let out a smile that spread across his pale lips.
A particular door at tower E led to a beautiful beach at the back of the facility, Ivan hobbled towards the door, pressing his fingerprint down and opened the door, he gently nudge Yao out. "Run. Run to the waters."
Wang Yao turn back to look at Ivan one last time. Filled with reluctance? Or pity? Or what. Ivan doesn't want to know. "Run." He scolded.
And off his little Calypso went.
To the sea where he truly belongs.
Ivan tried his best to last, he tried to walk towards the crashing waves. He wanted to see Yao as he turns back into that alluring creature again, he wanted to see him swim away into the beautiful waters. But he can't, the delicious and crisp sea breeze in the air turns more sharp and painful with each breath he took, he felt weak and very cold. The last thing he knows is that he fell into the soft sand, and everything turns black.
If heaven is a reward for the things you love, then he must have done very well in his life to be able to listen to the seas again, Ivan thought. Though the first sign that tells Ivan that he is still alive is hearing the same soothing and crashing waves against the rocks, he opens up his eyes to find the sight of the rock ceiling welcoming him back to reality. Pushing his sore and heavy body to the sitting position, he is immediately greeted by a sitting figure beside him.
"Yao…. Why are you still here?" Ivan asked, then looking down on the gashes on his body, the bandages have all been torn off, and they have mostly lighten to non-life threatening wounds.
Wang Yao started sniffing, then almost immediately he burst out into crying.
"W-What happened?" Ivan quickly rushes to his side.
"Ivan… I cannot go back to the waters anymore, there is nothing inside me to let me go back." He wailed in an ugly manner.
Ivan wrapped him up in a tight embrace.
"Ivan…."
"Hmmm?"
"Don't let me go."
"I won't. I will never let you go ever again."
Wang Yao smiles. He finally found somebody who would be his home.
Just then, Ivan's thoroughly soaked phone miraculously started ringing. He pulls himself apart from Yao and picked it up. After a few comedic, fuzzy hellos back and forth, he finally heard a loud, ear-piercing "BIG BROTHER! CAN YOU HEAR ME!" from the speaker.
"Yes, I can. Gosh. It's unlike you to scream this loud Natalia." Ivan answered.
"Well, you can't hear me." The same old monotonous tone came back.
"So… is Katyusha ok?"
Silence settled in between them as Ivan braced himself, waiting anxiously for her reply.
"Should be."
"What do you mean should be?" Ivan asked, a little irritated.
"Argh! I lied! I'm getting married soon, can you just get the fuck home. Shouldn't have listened to Katyusha on her lame ass idea on getting you back." Natalia shouted.
"Wha.. I mean… of course I'll be back. You're getting married?" Ivan said, taken aback.
"Yes! It's been fucking ages since you are back if you even have the face to realise it! I. Am. Getting. Married. To. Toris!" Natalia huffed.
"Toris…? Him… And you?" Ivan muttered in bewilderment, then realization. "Yea.. I'll be back. I'm bringing somebody back with me… And uh, might need a little help in your expertise with passports."
"You got yourselves into some big trouble, don't you." The voice said quietly, a little suspiciously from the other end.
"Uh… Yeah.."
"Well, nothing will be worst if you dare to miss my wedding. I'll settle the rest with Katyusha, stay where you are, I'll call you back for more details. Bye." The line was cut off before Ivan could say another word.
Putting his phone down, he suddenly remember that he haven't ask Wang Yao that question yet.
"That lady is very fierce." Yao commented meekly.
"Yeah.. she is my sister."
"Your sister? Can I see her too?" Yao asked, his face brighten up with interest.
"Yao." Ivan straightened his face and said. Patting down on both of Yao's shoulder down, he slide it up the smooth neck to cup his fingers on those rosy cheeks. So adorable. Ivan silently thought.
Wang Yao stare back at him, then suddenly scrunching his face.
"W-What's this?" Ivan asked, baffled.
"I am looking serious."
Ivan let out a laugh. Moving his fingers up, he cover Yao's face with his large palm and rub on it, annoying Yao. "Ah… Ivan is bad!" Yao cried, slapping the hand away.
"Yao. Do you want to go back to my home with me?" Ivan asked carefully.
Black hair swish to the side as Yao turn his head towards Ivan. "Yes. I want to know everything about Ivan." He broke out into the sincerest smile Ivan have ever seen, a smile that filled the researcher's heart with warmth and happiness.
"Even that fierce lady?" Ivan added cheekily.
Yao nodded. "She is your sister. I want to know her."
"That's great. I'll get us out of here then." Ivan nodded, in an unusually carefree tone.
The day have dawned bright and sunny in the bitter cold wind, a reflection of their state of mind and situation. Things was bad, but at least everything turns out well, and they can be together for a very long time.
"Ivan."
"Hmm?"
"What is married?"
"Uhh…" Ivan stuttered, being caught completely off guard.
"Ivan, why are you red?" Yao moves in closer, staring at his face.
"I'll teach you about it next time."
