To Change History Part 6

Henry and Sapphire, after a long flight back to the States, were currently back at the bar in town, now with the Dial of Time as the two had the whole place cleared and waiting for a couple more to show up, which they did to the smile of one of them.

"Well done my friend, I knew you would succeed." Davis said as he took the seat next to Henry. "You have done a great service to your country."

"Just doing what I do best." Henry replied.

"But to be honest, I was surprised when you told me to meet you here and not in D.C., I thought you would enjoy a greater honor over there." Davis continued as Henry, of course, had a reason why.

"Before the war, I once gave another great treasure to "Top Men" over there and I never discovered what happened to that artifact, I won't make that mistake again…" Henry told Davis as he turned his gaze to the other one with Davis. "So I'm going to give the dial to someone else…" Henry coming forth to the other who came with Davis, holding out the dial…

"Me?" Dr. Schneider said in surprise as Henry handed over the Dial of Time to the German scientist. "I don't understand…"

"You could have joined your colleague in his quest to change history and the world as we know it, but you made the choice to come forth and warn us of his plan, instead of keeping quiet." Henry smiled. "At one point, we were adversaries, but not anymore, I can learn to trust and forgive someone like you who had an evil past. And I trust that you will keep this and keep it safe and sound."

"Thank you Dr. Yearling, I don't know what else to say…" Dr. Schneider replied, his eyes still wide open and now staring at the powerful, ancient artifact in his wings. "I promise to not let it fall into the wrong hands."

"That I have no doubt…" Henry said as he began to turn to Davis. "And Davis…"

"I guess I can inform my superiors that the Dial of Time was unfortunately destroyed while you tried to get it…" Davis taking the hint. "For old time sake my friend."

"Thank you." Henry nodded as he was thankful Davis understood where he was going. "Now, if you two will excuse me, I would like to begin my retirement at home with my family."

"Yeah, no more adventures for me…" Sapphire spoke up as she joined her father as the two left the bar, to go back home, having left the Dial of Time with Schneider…

Back to the Present…

"And I have kept that promise ever since that day your grandfather entrusted me with this great responsibility." Schneider told Jewel as he then began to open the briefcase. "Until today…" Schneider opening the case to reveal an artifact shaped like a clock with various dials on it…

"Is that…" Jewel stunned as she gently took out the artifact. "The Dial of Time…" Jewel softly running a wing over it, not believing it was real.

"Your grandfather was one of the most honorable men I have ever met and he gave me a chance to help me live a better life, instead of casting doubt on me." Schneider told Jewel. "And it is only right for me to honor him by giving this artifact to his own blood instead of mine."

"Thank you, but why?" Jewel asked.

"I have made many mistakes and have many regrets and my days are coming to an end…" Schneider spoke with a hint of sadness in his voice. "I want to do at least one thing right before I am gone."

"I say you earned your redemption." Jewel smiled as Schneider prepared to leave.

"Thank you for your time, young lady, it was nice to meet Dr. Yearling's granddaughter and get to know his blood." Schneider offering a wing for Jewel to shake, which she accepted, but before Schneider could leave, Jewel made a request.

"Why don't you stay a little longer?" Jewel politely offered." You came all this way to give me this, the least I can do is offer you a nice, cool drink."

"It will be a great honor and pleasure." Schneider accepting it as Jewel opened the front door for him. "Are you sure your husband is okay with that?"

"Blu has no choice but to listen to me, I am just as tough as my grandfather was." Jewel joked as Jewel followed the doctor into her house she lived in with Blu.

Meanwhile Jewel thought about Schneider's new job he had in the States and the year the story was from…

Back to 1969, in America…

"I hope your mother isn't too worried about us…" Henry told his daughter as the two had arrived at the front door of their house in Moose Lake, Minnesota, coming in as Henry's wife and Sapphire's mother was sitting down on a couch, watching the TV as father and daughter came in. "Honey, I'm back and so is Sapphire." Henry called out as his wife got up and hugged her husband.

"Happy to see you safe and in one piece." Henry's wife smiled as she turned to Sapphire. "Did you have a good trip sweetie?"

"Oh yes mom, it was very nice…" Sapphire answered.

"Really…" Henry's wife smirked. "Going into danger alongside your father was nice…" Henry's wife knowing full well where her daughter was actually…

"How did you…" Sapphire shocked that her mother knew she was lying where she was going.

"Did you forget who your father married?" Henry's wife said back. "I'm just glad you two are back home and right in time too, something important in history is about to happen."

"What exactly?" Henry wondered as he was of course out of the loop, but he got his answer from the TV in the living room the family was in…

On the TV, a dog in an astronaut suit was climbing down a ladder of a space lander, on what appeared to be a gray surface, with black space above, slowly, but surely as he touched down on the surface, taking a step and leaving behind a firm paw print of the surface…

"That's one small step for man, one great leap for mankind…" The family heard the astronaut announce from the TV as he continued walking upon the surface of what was the Moon.

Henry just had a big smile as he knew he was partially responsible for this huge success in human history… If he didn't manage to save the Dial of Time and keep it away from the clutches of evil, this historical event would not be happening right now. He helped make sure history was going to stay as history and not be changed.

And that's a wrap on this story!

I hope you enjoyed and with that…

See everybird later!
