Miyuki was nervous.
Considering that she was chosen as the freshman representative of all people even though her brother has also a similar ranking as her and better academic knowledge than Miyuki, the oceanic-eyed girl indeed was doubtful of the council to take such a decision.
But since her being provided with such a job made her big brother proud of her, it was enough for Miyuki to do her best and deliver the speech as flawlessly as she could.
After her mother passed away, Miyuki looked up to her brother as a parental figure from whom she sought reliance and support. Miyuki was not spoilt nor did she whines on regular occasions but sometimes she likes to slack off and get reprimanded by her brother which makes her realize, that there was someone who still genuinely cared for Miyuki. Not for her outer appearance or her talent, but just as she was.
Well, it was a little surprising that the Yotsuba matriarch herself called last night to congratulate Miyuki and Tatsuya as well for getting accepted into the First High. Some presents were sent from the clan head for Miyuki regarding her being the representative as well. In those presents, there were many ornaments and beautiful jewelry, but nothing could replace the hairpin Miyuki always wears.
It was the most precious treasure she had which Miyuki could never detach herself from. The ornament was nothing too extravagant or exotic. Just a simple crystal rose-sculpted hairpin which shined brightly under any shade and provided natural charm to Miyuki.
(A/N: - The same as canon. Those look too good to remove from her.)
But it was neither the design nor how well it suited, which was the reason why Miyuki held this close to her heart. Rather, it was because the person who gifted it was none other than the person whom Miyuki is desperately searching for for the past years yet all resulted in vain.
It was around their first meeting when 'he' placed the hairpin on her saying it was made for Miyuki and looked quite good on her. At that time despite Miyuki being only nine years old, she was able to understand the genuine emotions put behind the gift. She never even once let it out of her sight ever since and she also disregards any other ornament to be placed on her hair other than that. Even her brother's present was kindly refused since Miyuki herself was devoted to wearing the hairpin until she didn't ask the person who gifted her this, what motive he had in mind when he anonymously appeared in her life and left without providing a single answer.
'Again I... '
Sighing to herself Miyuki shook her head and placed the thoughts back of her mind. It was a general occurrence that even her brother has gotten used to it. Once Miyuki began thinking about that certain person, she dives deep into her memories and relives that very moment when she was in the presence of her savior. She never reprimanded herself for being so immense in that person since Miyuki treasured those memories and wanted to never forget the person who potentially not only saved her but her beloved family members as well. And in return what he asked...nothing.
"Are you alright Shiba-san?"
One of the upperclassmen asked the evident fidgety girl. Miyuki didn't want to let the people around them know about her instability and the complicated thought process she suddenly was mangled up with but somehow after walking inside the school, those thoughts are just popping here and there, like something...was about to happen.
But those were the things she needs to deal with not to make others get involved.
"It's nothing, senpai."
She didn't say her name since Miyuki missed the introduction. To avoid possible awkwardness she walked toward the corner of the stage and have a lookout for the audience. If possible she wants to cool down her mind but witnessing the group of students in front of whom she has to deliver the speech would not generally prove to be a nerve reliever either. But Miyuki's mind was haywire at the moment to assess the situation as she silently walked toward the side from where she wouldn't be able to get noticed by the students.
Her eyes roamed around the sitting arrangement and a sense of grief and slight disappointment emerged upon seeing how people discriminate against each other based on their courses. In the first place, a person who qualifies to enter the First High was already a special existence and could be proven a potential asset in the future yet...
'Not like I alone could do anything... '
A smile soon formed on the ice princess's lips as her eyes landed on a familiar figure sitting in the second row and chatting with some fellow freshmen with a soft smile indicating that her brother was actually able to socialize comfortably. She was concerned that having been confined in his room and practically engaging most of his hours in his inventions would dull his outside life. But yet again Miyuki was proven wrong for good and she was happy that her brother was enjoying his time in the school.
Her eyes roamed around the audience despite knowing she wouldn't find anyone familiar. She just felt like-Wait!
Miyuki's eyes stretched slightly wide, and her whole focus converged to a single point as she gawked at a certain someone with a gaze that told Miyuki couldn't believe what was present for her eyes to look at. The chances of her hallucinating were extremely low but despite acknowledging the fact she had a hard time believing what her vision caught could be considered as a reality.
A single boy wearing the same uniform as others and sitting at the farthest point from Miyuki could be seen currently chatting with someone Miyuki didn't consider important to notice at the moment. More like she didn't want to even move her gaze even the slightest bit at the moment as the horror of once again losing the person once she moves her eyes away was not something Miyuki could once again bear to accept.
Same onyx eyes and midnight hair. Those features and the peculiar tear-troughs. There was no denying, he is the one! The same person for whom Miyuki was desperate all those years. The same boy she has majorly dreamt of. The savior she always wanted to thank. That warmth...that smile...his deep voice...she missed all of it and wanted to experience them once again.
Without her knowing Miyuki has already stepped down from the stage gathering various attention to her. She knows that he also has seen her with the special eyes he used at that time also. Her anxiety rose since now that he know that Miyuki has spotted him, he might try to run away again. She has to fasten up her pace an-
"Miyuki?"
"Ah."
Unfortunately, she has to snatch her gaze away from him to look at the person who took a rigid hold of her hand and asked in a genuinely concerned tone. If anyone else Miyuki surely would have pushed them aside but not her brother.
Now that she noticed, most of the students were looking in her direction with varying gazes but that didn't concern her at all.
"Nii-san. There...he is right there...?! "
Miyuki pointed at the seat where she saw him but when her eyes went back to that seat, all the color from her beautiful face paled since the end of her finger was actually pointing out at a boy with whom she was not familiar at all. More so the one who gestured by Miyuki was perplexed enough to get flustered and gesture toward himself in confusion.
Tatsuya's eyes went in that direction as well, before his cold blue eyes flashed with a peculiar gleam. His stare lasted for three seconds at most before he pulled his attention back to his sister.
"You believe he is here?"
Miyuki and Tatsuya both knew whom the latter was talking about, to which Miyuki nodded instantly despite she must have seen an idiot in her brother's gaze at the moment to actually misjudge a person in a fit of her anguish. Her brother looked at her with a soft smile and in place of scolding her for her irresponsible actions which would have seemed natural given the circumstances, he warmly put his hand above her head and assured her something which brought some stability to her raging heart.
"If he really is here Miyuki, then I promise you, I will find him. Now please go back and deliver your speech, alright?"
Miyuki was reluctant to the point she wanted to abandon her role as freshman representative and seek out the person whom her eyes met even for a couple of seconds. She was not seeing things and knew he was here and again trying to run away from her, but she refused that selfish desire since it would not only affect her reputation but also sadden her brother. And since she has been promised by her brother that he would find him, Miyuki's half of the stress vanished right there. She knew her brother was capable and never goes back on his words. If he has promised then Miyuki could actually keep her hopes up to finally face the person to whom she has to ask dozens of questions and complain a lot along the way as well.
"I am really sorry for my impudence, Nii-san. I will return right at the instance."
Tatsuya smiled at his imouto and bowed slightly toward the upperclassmen as well in apology for his sister's unusual behavior. There were many chatting about what just transpired but most of them were about how breathtakingly beautiful Miyuki is or something along those lines. Tatsuya sighed in relief that the scene didn't elevate and thanks to his sister's adaptable nature, she was able to convince the upperclassmen that everything was fine. The smile she had currently was undoubtedly fake but her natural charisma didn't let people look past her facade and soon the ceremony finally commenced.
Tatsuya for the last time glanced back in the rows at the exact spot Miyuki pointed earlier before he took his seat and decided to put an end to this chase.
It was after the ceremony that every student was directed to get their identity card registered from which they would get to know about their class and other details. Just like everyone Itachi also exited the auditorium to get himself registered for a class.
Since he used genjutsu back there he was able to dodge Erika and Mizuki as well. Primarily he utilized his special eye to dodge his hime but when he was able to hit the second bird with the same stone, Itachi was not going to relocate them.
'I shouldn't have run away...'
Looking at the information on his identity card he sighed. His mind was currently occupied with the thoughts of what happened back in the ceremonial hall and how he once again behaved pathetically by dodging his princess even though Itachi know not now but soon he would have to face her. The look of plea and hopefulness in her gaze made him think of his actions but in the end, what he remained was a coward who was not afraid to go against an army but feared getting hated by the person whom he hold dearest to his heart.
"Ah... Itachi-kun. Where did you disappear?"
Itachi knew this voice and ignoring her when they were already this close would be regarded as rude on his part. He was not antisocial but in general, didn't want to associate with people who seems to get nagging with time. And Erika was everything he most likely feels like dodging.
An extrovert. Slightly meddlesome and most important, the clan she belongs to.
Turning himself to the source of the voice he saw only two of the four girls whom he saw back during the entrance ceremony. The glass-wearing girl also stood beside Erika with a perplexed look adorning her face. Her eyes once again made Itachi look closer at her but he has learned from his previous mistake and didn't linger for long before responding to the redhead.
"Just went ahead and got myself registered. What about you both?"
"We also received the identity cards-ah, that reminds me. What class are you placed in?"
Itachi didn't have to look twice since he remembered his card details before he spoke out, "E".
"Woah, we both are in the same class as well." Itachi didn't have to ask for the other two girls since he saw them mixing themselves up with other groups, seemingly placed in different sections.
"Wanna check the homeroom?" Erika asked.
Administrative circulars were handed through terminals since the government didn't find it necessary to waste human resources by providing teaching units. However, since there wouldn't be any monitoring unit the homeroom could become a great place to know more about classmates and make new friends in the first year.
Itachi had nothing better on his mind and nowhere else to wander at the moment so he thought of agreeing with the ladies and walking with them to the class, but soon he reconsidered his option.
"You both go ahead. I need to talk with this guy."
Mizuki and Erika both has perplexed expressions at his words before they tilted their head to look in the direction where Itachi was pointing only to see a stone blue-eyed first-course student advancing in their direction with hurried steps.
Soon the said the guy halted just behind Itachi as his left hand went over the latter's shoulder and in an icy tone the approacher spoke up.
"We need to talk."
Erika was unsure of the situation but when Itachi seemed to be aware of the new arrival she didn't pry into the matter and dragged Mizuki along.
Itachi sighed. He knew this would happen but he wanted to take his initiative in the matter if possible. Not to talk about the tone Tatsuya used slightly irked Itachi as well but he did not mull over it for long and dragged them away from the spot where they were getting eyed by all of the people.
After gaining a little distance from the others, still inside the same block, Itachi stood while facing the window as his eyes roamed outside and vigilance was always functional to sense if someone was eavesdropping.
Tatsuya stared at the man for a good minute while forming what he should be asking first. Tatsuya had a lot to say, all concerning Miyuki and the tears she has shed but before he could say anything, the other one spoke up about something unexpected first.
"How did you recognize me?"
Despite being aware of the fact that Tatsuya was the possessor of some special kind of eyes which Maya termed as Elemental Sight, still made Itachi curious that even pressing his magical aspect to the base, was he still detectable?
That would be concerning and ask for more training from Itachi's side. Or was it Chakra Tatsuya registered as Itachi's identity? That would be a disaster since Chakra was not something a high schooler should get involved in, considering what kind of greed it generates in one's subconscious.
But against Itachi's expectation, Tatsuya spoke out with a response entirely different.
"For that, you have to visit Miyuki's room since all she has in there, is you."
Itachi was... speechless.
Was it some kind of non-systematic magic that makes Itachi lose words whenever it involves hime...or was it that she is that one of a kind? Itachi couldn't help but shake his head with a serene smile breaking his serious front.
"Now can you tell me the reason why you are playing cat and mouse with Miyuki when you undoubtedly know her desperation to meet you?"
Itachi's smile ceased before he turned on his heel, making his back face Tatsuya before he spoke his parting words and disappeared into shadows.
"You don't have to worry about that. I will be meeting her sooner than you think..."
A/N: - Apologize for the delay and also for the shorter chapter.
I intended to write a more prolonged chat between Tatsuya and Itachi but scrapped it considering Itachi's natural attitude and how Tatsuya must be wary of the Sharingan user.
I have a theory about how he has chakra and when does he use it. And boy when he uses it...the world burns...
Drop a review and lemme know how did you like the chapter.
