Epilogue
"You have got to be kidding me." Marinette stared at the two pink lines, exasperation filling her. It wasn't that she didn't want more kids, but…
Adrien stuck his head in the bathroom door, six-month old Emma in his arms. "Everything okay, Marinette?"
She'd wondered why it had seemed difficult for her to lose her pregnancy weight. She suspected she was already several months along, now that she realized the symptoms she'd been having were not simply attributed to giving birth. She'd only just gotten her earrings back, dang it!
She let out a long sigh, holding the test up. Adrien's eyes snapped to it, going wide with surprise that quickly evolved into elation.
"Is that – are you – you're pregnant?" He opened the door all the way, joining her at the sink with Emma. "I thought you were on the mini-pill?"
She was. She'd been very careful to get on the birth control after having Emma, in fact.
"Tikki!" The little Kwami flew up, dancing around Emma and making the baby giggle.
"Yes, Marinette?"
She held the test up. "Why do I have a feeling this is your fault?"
Tikki just gave her an innocent smile. "I don't know why you'd think that; I wasn't there!"
Snickering came from Adrien's shirt pocket as Plagg stuck his head out. "I thought you learned how that works back in those health classes, BG?"
Marinette glared at him before turning her gaze back to Tikki. A bit of guilt flashed across the Kwami's expression. "Didn't I tell you that you'd need to be very careful? That, as my holder, it would be rather easy to…create new life?"
"No, Tikki, you did not mention that tidbit."
"Oh." Her little friend looked contrite for just a second before perking up. "Now you know!"
Marinette groaned. "But I was careful! I'm on the pill!"
Tikki landed on her shoulder, her tone consoling. "Previous holders have used multiple form of prevention to avoid it in the past. Even small chances of failure get multiplied for you!"
Marinette sighed again, dropping her head against Adrien's shoulder.
He kissed her head, meeting her eyes in the mirror. Concern had taken over as he'd watched her conversation with Tikki. "Are you…okay with this, Marinette?"
She gave herself a few more seconds to pout before she leaned over to kiss Emma's forehead. "Yes, of course. Just feeling a little shocked," she said, finally starting to relax. They'd had many conversations in the past about having more kids, she'd just not expected it to happen again so quickly.
Adrien's eyes lit back up and he kissed her, his hand snaking through her hair to hold her close. Then he handed Emma to her before kneeling down to lay a gentle kiss on her stomach, the slight roundness of it taking on a new context. She couldn't hold back the fond smile at the sight.
He stood back up and she tugged on his collar to bring him into another searing kiss. Then she gave him a stern look. "But we are planning the next one, okay, Chaton?"
He tried to look solemn as he nodded, but his smile was back in an instant. Emma reached her arms out to him with a little babble, and Marinette passed her over. Before she could back away, Adrien caught her wrist with his free hand, sliding it up until her engagement ring was facing up, sparkling in the bathroom light. "Does this mean we can move up the wedding?"
Marinette looked at her hand, contemplating. They had been planning for a wedding, though not for any time soon. "When were you thinking?"
His eyes caught hers. "I'd marry you right now if I could, Mari."
Marinette laughed lightly. "Right here, in our bathroom?"
He just smiled, his eyes shining. He used his hand to twist her around, pulling her tight against him as they both looked in the mirror. "I'd have you, our daughter, and our new little one." His hand moved down, caressing her stomach. "That's all I need."
"You're such a sap." Marinette turned back around, reaching up to kiss him. She wasn't sure she'd ever grow tired of feeling his mouth on hers, and the feelings of warmth and intensity that always seemed to radiate from him. "I love you so much for it, Adrien. Yes, let's move the wedding up. Just, not in our bathroom. We need someone to marry us, after all."
He beamed down at her. "Wherever you want."
They finally left the bathroom together, ideas swirling in Marinette's mind.
She had a wedding dress to design.
