The hot air of noon was burning his skin…he could feel thirst knocking at his door. The sight of land was giving him all sorts of relief, and a desire to refresh himself. Guzma narrowed his eyes and forcefully shoved those thoughts away.
He couldn't think about rest now. Not when Kitty was out in public with a moron who could potentially be a threat.
He wasn't about to take that risk…not when he had risked so much already and failed.
Guzma grunted when the Noivern he was riding stumbled in his fight, having been hit by a side-wind from one of the many beaches of Paldea.
"Sam?" Guzma looked down, narrowing his eyes. "You good bud?"
The Noivern flapped his wings harder, trying to stabilize himself. He was SO thirsty from flying for 6 hours…but he needed to find the perfect place to land. If they chose the wrong area…that could ruin everything.
Guzma narrowed his eyes at the Pokemon's condition. Kitty would kill him if anything was wrong with her Noivern. Whipping out his Rotom Phone, he checked to see if it was scanning Paldea yet…
…sure enough, the Pokemon was starting to get a signal from the familiar Rotom that belonged to his sister.
"...She's east." Guzma reported, looking upwards towards the nearing land. "Near a place called 'Zapapico'. Let's go Sample!"
The Noivern nodded and flapped his wings-only to look up as they got closer to the land. It looked like fresh green plains that were transitioning to rocky mountain type areas…the land was transitioning from green and lush, to red and rocky…no doubt home to many rock and ground types…
Guzma took notice of one area that rose up considerably higher than the rest of the rock formations…
…wait…formations like these caused-
"WHOA!"
A blast of wind SLAMMED into the Noivern, causing Guzma to slide off of the dragon/flying type, plunging to the Earth below. "GAH!"
Sample, quickly flapping his wings to regain his bearings, quickly looked down and gritted his teeth upon seeing his trainer's brother now plummeting to the ground. Tucking his wings to his body, the Noivern dove straight down to start falling faster than Guzma.
Once he managed to get close to the falling man, the Noivern extended his claws…
…and SNATCHED Guzma's arms in his feet, quickly swooping back upwards to avoid a collision with the ground.
Guzma panted for a moment, his eyes wide in shock at the near-disaster. After a moment he huffed slowly, allowing himself to dangle in the Noivern's feet. "Hah…Guzma what is wrong with you?" he muttered lowly. "All this because some guy is looking for a friend of Kitten's…pah…"
Kitty's Noivern finally got close to the ground and gently let the Team Skull Leader onto his feet, landing beside him. Trilling lightly, Sample looked over the man to check for injuries…once the Noivern was assured that his trainer's brother was ok, he turned and started sniffing the air.
…if he could get her scent…he'd be able to locate her faster
"Hey. Big and Large." Guzma put up his phone, scoffing. "My Rotom Phone can track her. There's no need for-"
RING!
Guzma paused, looking at the screen of his phone…
…and groaning slightly.
Kukui…he had called 14 times…AND was calling right now!
Letting off a huff, Guzma answered the phone, a scowl on his face. "Whatdya want, Kukui?" he huffed. "I don't have time for a friendly chitchat."
"Or more accurately, you don't want to be put on full blast for stealing your OWN SISTER'S POKEMON!"
Guzma made a face, before he crossed his arms. "I got nothin' to explain t'ya Kukui." He snided. "The large winged beatboxer and I are just fetching Kitten and then she can have this big noise maker BACK."
Guzma suddenly yelped when Sample SWISHED his tail under Guzma's feet, causing the gang leader to land FLAT on his face. The man groaned and glared up at the large Noivern, who was sticking his tongue out at him.
"You stole Sample to give him to Kitty?" Kukui looked dumbfounded, but crossed his arms. "Guzma. You and I both know that if she asked for her pokemon, she would have contacted me. I'm her main professor! And with her traveling to Paldea, I'm responsible for making sure the rest of her Pokemon are safe and nourished while she's away."
"I NEVER said I took Big Screecher JUST to give him to Kitten!" Guzma got himself up and dusted himself off. "I SAID I took him so we could find HER and bring her BACK to Alola. THEN I will give her stupid bat-dragon back!"
"You went all the way to Paldea to bring her back to Alola?" Kukui gawked at Guzma for a moment. "Guzma! She's 16! She can take care of herself!"
"Not with this guy lookin for 'er." Guzma growled. "I know I haven't made the best choices, Kukui. But trust me on this one. THIS guy means trouble."
"Guy?" Kukui took in Guzma's demeanor…how serious he was…how…dangerous he was.
Frowning, the Alolan Professor got closer to the screen. "What's going on Guzma? If you're shaken up by this…"
Guzma scoffed and looked away for a brief second. "...There was this guy who stopped by the islands…messed up the kids somethin' harsh…Said he was lookin' for some girl named 'Selena Hoshi Fog'."
Kukui was silent for a moment, taking in the information that was being given to him. "Yeah…that's one of Katrina's friends from Jhoto."
Guzma stopped and gave Kukui a crazy look. "You know her?"
"Not me personally, but Kitty does. Selena is the younger sister of the Jhoto Gym Leader Morty in Ecruteak City." Kukui frowned slightly. "...and Selena's been missing for a little over five years. Morty has sent several people for the past couple of years to search for her."
Now Guzma looked confused. "...that's impossible…Kitten's been keeping touch with this girl for years."
"...She has?" Kukui seemed to ponder over this information…before he frowned. "...maybe you're right Guzma…This whole thing seems sketchy…If there's a guy beating up people to find this 'Selena' girl…And Kitty knows where she is…"
"Then she's in danger." Kukui and Guzma said at the same time.

"I have never felt so relaxed" Kitty said to her Rotom Phone, taking a bite of a parfait she had purchased from a food stand. Her team had made it to Zapapico and the FIRST thing that the Pokemon wanted to do…was eat.
Around the table were Kitty's Pokemon, who all had separate dishes. Freezer and Fefnir had been seated FAR away from each other, while the others were happily munching what item they had received from their trainer. Even the Team Star Cyclizar was devouring a gordita, satisfying his dragon-hunger.
"I'm glad to hear that!" Selena praised from the other side of the phone, looking like she was in the middle of walking in some city. Behind her was a Scizor, who looked like he was keeping watch around him while he followed his trainer in the city. "How is Sprigatito? Is she doing better?"
"Oh Lilly's doing just fine!" Kitty put up a hand and motioned Lilly to come over to the phone. "And look! She's a Floragato now!"
"Nya!"
Selena looked stunned at the change, before she smiled widely. "Hey that's GREAT! Your inner Champion is still going strong! Keep training up those Pokemon!"
Kitty let off a weak laugh and looked down, seeing the Floragato climbing up her lap in an attempt to look at the phone's screen. "Thanks, but I'm not going to be like you Selena. I don't want to be a Gym Leader. Heck, I honestly didn't want to be Champion of Alola." She looked down and softly stroked Lilly's head as the Pokemon seemed to be searching for something or someone on the other side of the screen.
"...I just did it…to repay Guzma's debt."
Selena gazed at Kitty seriously for a while…and smiled slightly.
"I envy you, Kitty…I wish I could have a strong bond with my brother, like you do with Guzma."
"We're not really that close anymore." Kitty sighed sadly. "...but he decided the adoration and love of several other kids…was more valuable than mine…he didn't even let me know about what he was struggling with…I would have helped!." She gritted her teeth. "And it's like the same thing is happening all over again…Atticus never told me about his troubles…never let me help…I WANTED to help…"
The girl closed her eyes and her grip on the Floragato tightened. "...but just like Guzma…he stopped talking to me…Stopped viewing me as important…I stopped being good enough for him…What…What did I do wrong?"
"...Kitty…" Selena frowned slightly. "If those two can't see how important you really are…then THEY are the ones at fault…not you."
There was a moment of silence as Kitty had to force herself to calm down, quickly wiping away slight tears that were forming in her eyes.
"Yes….yes you're right…sorry about that." She cleared her throat and quickly put on a smile for Selena. "Which region are you in? Galar?"
"No…no I'm…going to save Galar for last honestly." Selena rubbed her head. "What I WILL tell you is that there is this…GUY that is driving me nuts here."
"Oh?" Kitty leaned in closer. "Did you find yourself a hot guy to date finally?"
"Oh HECK no!" Selena rolled her eyes. "This guy is a PAIN! Every time I talk to him, he always makes these backhanded compliments. And the worst part is? I CANT GET AWAY FROM HIM! I accepted a temp job until the league starts up here!"
"Oh gosh I bet that's frustrating." Kitty winced. "Do you work with him?"
"Yes and no? He's some subway boss guy. Has a brother that looks exactly like him." Selena rolled her eyes. "Except his brother actually knows how to treat a lady. What's hilarious is that this guy is ALWAYS smiling, but I can't stand him…and his brother always looks like it's the end of the world; but he's a perfect gentleman."
"That's…actually hilarious." Kitty smiled.
"Oh there you are Selena! Will you help Emolga and I set up the shoot?" Came another voice from the phone.
"Be right there Elesa!" Selena called to the person off-screen. She looked back towards Kitty and gave her a peace sign. "Nos says 'hi'!"
Kitty grinned. "Tell that big lovable ghost hi back for me."
"Will do! Later!"
"Bye"
Kitty put the Rotom phone away and let off a small sigh, looking upwards at the sky and petting Lilly softly.
"Nyyyaaaa…"
Kitty paused and looked down at the Floragato, who looked extremely disappointed.
"...didn't get to see that Greninja huh?" Kitty petted Lilly's head. "Don't worry, you'll get to see him. You love your ninja don't you?"
"N-Nya!" Lilly quickly hid her face, looking stressed.
Kitty smiled and continued to pet the grass cat, looking upwards towards the sky.
"...yeah…you love your ninja….don't you?" she muttered more to herself than anyone.
