Three months later (after the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths) …

"Barry, I don't know what's going on with Godspeed and your son from the future but they've got Jay," Carter challenged as she struggled to fit her suit over her baby bump. "You can't stop me from helping. I can't let him die when I haven't even told him," she added, looking down in embarrassment.

Jay had been on her Earth for the last month after Crisis destroyed the other Earths but she'd avoided him.

Barry shook his head, "There are three of us. That has to be enough," he stated, "You can't go into action this pregnant. It's crazy."

"There might be three of you but there are hundreds of Godspeeds," she retorted, "It's not like you can really stop me. C'mon, Barry. Please."

"Ok, you can come," he finally agreed, regretfully, "But, you stay behind us and you have to promise to figure out what you and Jay are after this. We all know you two are meant to be and you did too, once. Stop letting Joan get in your head. He doesn't love her. He's not even with her," he shared, "You're just scared."

Carter let out a sigh, "You're right. I am scared. If we get out of this alive, then I'll talk to him and figure this all out. I promise," she added as she gestured for them to head into action, causing Barry to nod as Bart and Nora joined them.

"You're letting her join?" Nora questioned as she glanced at the heavily pregnant speedster.

Barry gave his daughter a look, "She'll be fine."

The four sped out of the lab and to the location where the Godspeeds were holding Jay.

They raced into the cathedral to find Jay's helmet on the ground with no sign of him or the Godspeeds, anywhere.

"Are we too late?" Carter whispered as she attempted to control her emotions.

"You're not too late," a voice entered the area before the speedsters were faced with a group of Godspeeds holding an unconscious Jay Garrick. They tossed him to the ground before they focused their attention on Bart, pulling him off the ground with some kind of trick to siphon his speed.

"What do we do, Dad?" Nora asked as an idea struck her. "If you losers want more speed, then come get mine," she challenged, offering Barry a wink as she raced out of the church leaving Barry, one Godspeed, Jay, Carter, and Bart.

Barry glanced at Carter, "Take care of him," he gestured to Jay before he raced forward through Godspeed's attack, breaking his hold on Bart.

Carter dropped to her knees just as Jay opened his eyes, "Hey, old man," she teased, while holding back tears, "If you wanted to see me, you could have called. There was no need to get yourself kidnapped."

Jay's lips curled into a smirk as he sat up until his eyes noticed the change in her physique. Before he could question her, Nora returned and they were surrounded by Godspeeds again.

"You need to get out of here," Jay nearly ordered Carter as he looked her up and down, "I can't believe Barry even let you into the action." He turned to Barry, "I think we should give these guys heck."

Barry shrugged, "That's pretty much our only option."

As the speedsters prepared for a battle, while Bart lay unconscious, the church doors flew open revealing Cisco.

"I leave Central City for two seconds," Cisco taunted before he unleashed some kind of forcefield on the Godspeeds. "That won't hold them for long," he added.

Barry gestured for them to make their escape.

Once the team was safely back in S.T.A.R. Labs, Jay pulled Carter aside, "I think we need to talk," he stated as he placed his hand on her bump.

She nodded, her nerves causing her hands to shake as she followed Jay down to the bunks.

"Were you planning on telling me about this?" he inquired, doing his best to keep the frustration out of his voice. "It's clear that you've known for a while," he added.

Carter took a deep breath before she spoke, "You're right, I've known since the day Barry and I visited you on Earth 3. I planned to tell you when we arrived but then I saw Joan," she paused, trying to shake off the feelings that women gave her. "Joan Williams looks exactly like Barry's mom so I was worried that maybe you two were meant to be, and not us. Instead of facing either fear, I just shut down," she confessed as she looked down at the floor, trying to keep herself composed which was difficult at this stage of her pregnancy.

"Caitlin warned me about how you would feel regarding Joan," he replied, "I meant to have a conversation with you about that before we left but things got too crazy. Carter, you're the only woman for me. Joan is an excellent Doctor, but that's all she is to me. You have nothing to worry about. You never have," he offered, unable to stay mad at her as he took in the image of her carrying his child.

She took a step forward, making eye contact with him as she wrapped her arms around his neck, "It seems like we might need to work on our communication skills. I'm so sorry that I kept this from you for so long. That was never my intention but as the time kept passing it got harder to face you."

Jay placed his hand on her stomach, "I understand why you did what you did, but I wish I'd been able to be a part of this from the first moment you knew. Do you know what we're having?"

Carter shook her head, "I wanted it to be a surprise but you've been surprised enough so we can get Caitlin to tell us if you want."

"No, we can wait," he replied as he leaned down and placed his lips to hers. Once he pulled back, he was unable to suppress his smile as he spoke again, "We might have to have another kid, you know? So, I can be a part of the entire process," he suggested with a wink, causing her to smile.

"Slow down there, old man," she replied, playfully, "This has been a lot and I"m not sure I can do it again." She pulled him into a passionate kiss as she backed him up against the wall.

She sighed as she released him, "I wish we had more time, but there is an army of Godspeeds we need to take care of," she lamented, still firmly in his grasp.

Jay shook his head, as he kissed the tip of her nose, "I think you can sit this one and the next few out, don't you agree? I can forgive you for keeping this secret, but it's time for you to take a backseat to the plethora of heroes up there."

"What's in it for me?" she whispered as she trailed her lips along his ear, knowing very well that she was in no position to bargain, but she was willing to try.

He started unzipping her suit as he responded, "I can think of a few things you'd like in exchange for your cooperation. I'll be making my retirement official and we'll move in together. It's about damn time, anyway. And, I don't mean what he had temporarily on Earth 3, but a place that we buy together that is truly ours."

Carter felt a shiver run up her spine as she felt his fingertips graze her skin. "I agree to your terms. If you play your cards right, we can have a few more kids. But for now, kiss me," she instructed before she felt his lips against hers, his tongue running across her lower lip begging for entrance, which she gladly abided, smiling against his mouth while she ran her hands along his chest down to her target.

The End
