Happy Mother's Day, everyone!

Chapter: Naps and Pillow Fights

It was a calm afternoon as Sonic and Tails lay snuggled together on the couch, with the fox kit resting his head on the blue hedgehog's side while the blue speedster had his arm wrapped around the fox, holding him close.

The air was rather temperate that day, not too hot and not too cold. The windows in the house were open, allowing a steady breeze to enter the living room, coating the sleeping duo in a nice windy blanket.

Sonic and Tails felt completely at peace as they slept contently next to each other, feeling and welcoming the warmth of each other's presence. It helped create a sort of comforting aura that helped them rest better.

However, that peaceful rest would soon be interrupted.

Tails let out a cute little snore before he felt something sharp prick the side of his head. At first, he brushed it off as nothing but a minor annoyance.

He attempted to go to sleep again but felt that same prickling sensation in the side of his head, this time closer to his ear, disrupting his rest once again.

Groggily, Tails peaked his left eye to see what was causing his discomfort, noticing it was coming from one of Sonic's many quills.

"Sonic…" Tails spoke up tiredly. "... your quills are poking me."

Sonic groaned as he arched his back slightly. "Sorry bud." He apologized.

Tails shuffled himself slightly, laying his head on Sonic's lap as attempted to go to sleep again. For a moment, he felt at peace as he lay sleeping in his big brother's comforting lap.

A poke, followed by an itching pain, this time in Tails' back, woke him again.

Now feeling a bit irritated, Tails opened his eyes to see Sonic's quills now poking specifically at his lower back.

"Sonic, your quills are poking me again." Tails grumbled slightly, trying to keep his annoyance to a minimum.

"Then move or get stuffed." Sonic grumbled right back, sounding just as irritable now.

Okay, now he was actually getting more than a little annoyed now.

Opening his eyes, Tails felt a snarl instinctively building up in his throat as he tiredly sat up from Sonic's lap, the blue hedgehog barley even stirring at his little brother's absence.

Tails was about to get off the couch and find somewhere else to sleep when he noticed one of the pillows at the other end of the couch.

Staring at it for a short moment before looking back at his sleeping brother, an idea popped into the fox kit's head as a mischievous smirk formed on his face.

Grabbing the pillow as quietly as he could, Tails slowly shuffled over to Sonic with the pillow in hand.

Trying desperately to keep himself from giggling aloud, Tails reared back the pillow and whacked Sonic in the face with it as hard as he could.

"Augh!" Sonic cried as he suddenly awoke from his slumber via pillow to the face, falling back against the end of the couch.

As he began to register what had just happened, Sonic heard the familiar sound of Tails' adorable laughter coming from right beside him.

"Did you just hit me in the face with a pillow?" Sonic questioned, sounding a bit stunned.

Tails giggled. "You were poking me with your quills!" He exclaimed, swinging his pillow at Sonic again.

Sonic let out a laugh as he raised arm to block the pillow. "You really wanna fight me, little bro? Just a fair warning; you'll lose."

"Oh, yeah?" Tails smirked challengingly, his twin tails wagging excitedly as he held his pillow out in front of him like a sword. "En garde!"

Sonic smirked back as he grabbed his own pillow. "Alright, bro, you asked for this." He then sprung to his feet, meeting Tails' pillow with his own. "Fear me, if you dare!" He said dramatically, quoting a certain cat in boots as he readied himself.

The two stood opposite to each other in a stand-off, their eyes narrowed to the point of squinting as they waited for the other to make the first move.

Sonic suddenly lunged at Tails with his pillow, leaping into the air and raising his pillow overhead. "Banzai!" He yelled with a laugh.

Tails let out a squeal as he tried to block Sonic's pillow with his own. He tried to hit Sonic back with his own pillow, but the blue hedgehog had already zipped behind him, whacking him in the back.

Sonic raised his pillow to smack Tails again, only for the kit to tackle him into the couch. Falling flat on his back, Sonic found his little brother sitting on his torso while using his tails to pin down his legs.

Tails giggled as he held down Sonic's arms. "Must suck now having a smaller tail, huh, Sonic?" Tails smirked.

Sonic laughed. "Oh, sure. But you know what else sucks?" He asked, raising his hands up to Tails' sides without the kit noticing. "Being ticklish!"

Sonic wiggled his fingers under Tails' armpits, earning a squeal of alarm from the kit before he burst out laughing.

"NO! SONIHEHEHEHEHEC!" Tails laughed as Sonic pulled him into his laps, still tickling.

"C'mon! Say uncle! Say it!" Sonic chuckled as he kept Tails held tightly in his lap before giving the fox kit a raspberry on the cheek.

Tails squeaked adorably with laughter as Sonic wrapped his arm around his chest and rubbed his bangs with his knuckles, giving him a noogie. "You're such a jerk!" Tails laughed, though the joyful smile on his face said otherwise.

Sonic gasped in feigned offense. "Why, dear brother, you wound me so!" He exclaimed, halting his noogie and placing his hand on his chest. "Very well. You leave me no choice!"

With a mischievous grin, Sonic reached down and pulled off Tails' shoes and socks, exposing the fox's orange bare feet.

Tails' eyes widened as he realized what his big brother planned to do. Searching around desperately for something he could use, Tails' eyes landed on one of the discarded pillows.

While Sonic was distracted, Tails reached out as far as he could and grabbed the pillow before pulling it back and whacking Sonic in the head.

"Ahh!" Sonic cried as Tails continued to pummel him, laughing as he released the fox and used his arms to cover his head.

Tails laughed ecstatically as he continued to hit Sonic with his pillow before briefly halting. "You give up yet, Sonic?" He asked.

Sonic smirked back up at Tails as he grabbed his pillow. "Not even close, little bro."

"What is going on here?"

Sonic and Tails halted their little pillow fight as they turned to see Knuckles entering the living room.

"I heard the sounds of a commotion and came to investigate." Knuckles explained with a look of concern. "Is something wrong?"

Sonic shook his head while Tails lowered his head with a sigh. "No, Knuckles. Me and Tails were just having a little pillow fight." Sonic stated casually.

"Yeah, no harm done." Tails added.

Knuckles slowly nodded. "Very well. If you say nothing is wrong, then I shall leave you be." With that, he turned around and exited out of the living room.

Once he was gone, Sonic and Tails both collapsed onto the couch out of exhaustion.

"So… that just happened." Sonic remarked tiredly.

"Yeah." Tails agreed, putting his socks and shoes back on.

"Can I ask why you so graciously disturbed my nap by hitting me in the face with a pillow? Sonic asked, glancing over at his little brother.

"Your quills were poking me." Tails said bluntly. "I was trying to sleep."

"Oh…" Sonic blinked, rubbing the back of his quills, noticing that they were quite prickly. "Sorry about that." He said sheepishly. "Maybe I should consider getting a hair-cut, or quill-cut in this case."

Tails smiled. "It's okay, Sonic. Besides…" His ears pinned back as he scratched the back of his head as he too smiled sheepishly. "… I was the one who hit you with a pillow.

"Eh, it happens." Sonic shrugged before wrapping his arms around Tails and pulling him into his lap. "It's what brothers do, right?"

Tails laughed as he snuggled his head against Sonic's chest. "Yeah!"

"By the way, you really got some good hits on me back there." Sonic said, holding Tails close to him.

Tails' cheeks blushed red as he smiled cutely. "Aw, well, you got some good hits in, too." He said bashfully.

"Nah, bro, you were practically pummeling me!" Sonic grinned, ruffling kit's affectionately, earning a giggle from Tails.

The two brothers relaxed as they laid there on the couch, silence filling the house once again as they sat there happy and content, as brothers do.
