It was a nice day, not overly warm or cold. Sunshine streamed between the palm and sea grape trees scattered around the resort while a gentle breeze blew. There were people everywhere though it didn't feel crowded. The sounds of birds, waves, giggles and laughter filled the air as well as the gentle mutters of random conversations.
At the edge of the pool Meredith sat sipping on her mimosa while she took in the merry atmosphere. Everyone's happiness and cheerfulness seemed to bleed into her, which was rather nice. Cristina had left her to go flirt with some blonde she'd spotted at the other side of the pool. Thus she sat alone, her swinging legs dipped in the crystalline water adding to the multitude of ripples across its surface.
It was already day four of their stay in the very picturesque islands of Hawaii. They had attempted to surf, swam with dolphins, savored new foods, dared to snorkel, and even learned some Hula moves. From the vacationing standpoint they had done everything right. Meredith was actually proud of their dark and twisty selves for managing it all and in such a short amount of time. Then again the reason behind such success had more to do with ignoring their feelings than being exemplary tourists.
Meredith had enjoyed herself ignoring everything and stuffing it as deep down as she could while making up life stories about everyone who crossed her path. The bad thing was that even though she was a master of ignorance a sneaky little someone somehow continued to make their presence felt. Without a doubt, Meredith was amazing at pushing away and making herself forget and yet despite Addison not being there she still heard her, still saw her, still felt her.
The first time it had happened Meredith had chucked it to her tequila addled brain. The clicking of heels made her think the redhead had come to take her back home. She had fantasized Addison had come like a knight-in-shining-whatever to sweep her off her feet. But when she looked back it was only one of the managers from the hotel, greeting guests.
Next the scent of vanilla and jasmine had her head whirling about. She wasn't drunk then. Not at all. Her mind was rather clear and yet she could smell her, could feel her warmth surrounding her. That is until Cristina had tapped her shoulder and asked if she wanted to check out the next little shop of perfumes and candles.
On top of that, flashes of red hair had Meredith giving second glances at all the redheads in the vicinity. It filled her with anger, despair, guilt, and sorrow every single time she turned to look and instead of Addison she found a complete stranger. She would be swallowed in every negative emotion for long minutes until she managed to bring herself back. Cristina had noticed, Meredith could tell. But her person never commented on the fact that red hair turned her into a complete mess and she never addressed it either.
Thus doing everything, every little thing a tourist could do, had been the one escape besides her nights full of tequila. She knew at some point her liver may burst but who knew, maybe she was doing a great job of making it tougher.
Giggling behind her drew her attention and when she turned she cursed under her breath. Running around behind her was a little girl with her mother chasing her in what appeared to be an intense game of tag, at least for the girl. The scene didn't bother her, not at all, it was rather sweet and adorable. What did bother her was the flowing red hair the girl's mother had. Because why not bring Addison back when she was relaxing by the pool.
With a huff Meredith stood and gathered her phone, towel, and purse. She scanned the pool and found Cristina laughing with the unknown blonde from earlier. Catching her friend's eyes she motioned she'd be heading back to the hotel. Cristina nodded and waved before getting back to her conversation.
With one last look at her person she turned and headed inside. She was greeted by the young doorman, who yet again was making eyes at her. He was handsome, she had to admit if she hadn't changed so much after Addison she might have brought him up with her. Alas she had changed and now a few hours of prospective pleasure meant little to nothing to her.
After a tight smile she continued on to the elevators, leaving the boy with pretty eyes behind. Pressing the button she allowed her brain to wander as it always did while keeping track of each blinking number above the elevator doors.
A flash of red caught her peripheral vision while she daydreamed. This time she caught herself before she turned to look and kept her gaze fixed on the blinking numbers. However, she heard the familiar staccato of high heels behind her. On instinct she turned and felt the air rush out of her instantaneously because right there, standing just a few feet away, was Addison. She made to step towards the redhead when an arm wrapped around her bicep.
"Don't embarrass yourself."
Meredith whipped around to find a bored looking Cristina shaking her head at her and she grumbled, "Let go."
"That's not Satan, idiot."
"Yes it is. Add-"
Just as Meredith was about to call out the redhead turned around and she could feel her eyes begin to sting as she found brown in place of jade. Agony rippled through her and her breath hitched slightly as she pressed her lips together and blinked away the tears.
"Come on." Cristina said, pulling her into the elevator.
The seconds passed and she did her best to breathe and calm herself. Apart from each ding announcing every floor they passed there was no other sound in the elevator. Neither she nor Cristina addressed the elephant in the room and Meredith was grateful. She was in too much pain and felt so very tired. She needed to get back to ignoring everything. It was better than allowing herself to feel everything she was feeling.
After a minute, which felt like hours, they finally made it to their floor. They trudged together to the room in silence, opening the door and slipping in. Towels were placed in the laundry pile and suitcases were searched for fresh clothes. The pain, the feelings, were thankfully beginning to dull and not a moment too soon. Cristina, however, seemed to have decided to break their unspoken agreement. Her person had seen the elephant and she was ready to address it.
"We need to talk."
Meredith glanced at the brunette and gave her a questioning shrug. "Hmm?"
"Don't 'hmm' me, Meredith. We need to talk."
"I don't know what you mea-"
Cristina interrupted her with a huff, "yes, you do."
"No. I don't."
"Meredith, we need to talk about you and Addison."
Like a train all those feeling she was working so hard to push away from her chugged on top of her. "No. We don't."
"Mere-"
"No. We. Don't."
"Yes we do. This is-"
Meredith turned abruptly from Cristina, "I'm going to shower."
"Stop running away. We need to talk."
"I'm not running. I'm going to shower." She said from the bathroom door. "And there's absolutely nothing to talk about."
"Fine." Cristina muttered.
"Fine."
With that she stepped into the bathroom humming in agreement when Cristina told her she'd be ordering them early lunch. After closing the door, everything she'd held at bay completely broke through her, the tiniest of whimpers escaping her. Ignoring wasn't going to work. Not right now. Not at all so she let go.
Cristina silently watched as her person closed the door before grabbing the pillow and yelling into it. She let out an exasperated sigh and shook her head when she heard the sound of the shower. Meredith would be the death of her, she was certain.
The whole situation was plainly stupid. Meredith and Addison were stupid, so very stupid. Her person more so than the redhead. At least Addison had tried to do something even though Cristina felt she could have done a bit more. Her person though… Meredith would rather die from unnecessary pain and sorrow than accept the love the redhead was giving her. She would rather suffer than allow herself to love who she wanted to love.
"This is so stupid." She muttered.
Everything was stupid. What she was about to do was stupid too but also necessary. If Meredith wouldn't fight out of her own free will then she would shove and push and make her do it. Her person had been right. One of them had to get their happy ending but it wasn't Cristina's turn it was Meredith's.
Keeping an ear trained on the shower, Cristina pulled her phone searching for one of the only people who could tell her where to find the redhead. After a few rings an annoyed Callie grumbled on the line.
"You better have the biggest emergency, Yang. I just managed to find an on-call room. I have been awake too damn long. Stupid 36 hours…"
"I need Addison's address in LA."
"Are you out of your damn mind? Why would I tell you? I'm going to bed."
"Callie!" Cristina shouted then covered her mouth.
"Cristina?" Meredith's muffled voice came through the bathroom door.
"It's the bird!" Cristina called out then began to whisper. "Listen here, they won't fight so I have to."
"What the hell are you-"
"I know you know, Callie. Meredith and Addison. I need to do something or I'll go crazy and she'll go crazy too."
"You know?"
"Of course I know. Now give me the address before Meredith gets out of the shower."
"Cristina, I don't want Addison hurting more than she already is."
"She'll hurt more if they do nothing. If we do nothing." Cristina let out. "They… they are supposed to be. God that sounds disgusting."
Callie chuckled a bit before sobering up, "you really think we should, though?"
"I know we have to do something. Just give me the address and I'll take it from there."
"Fine. But Cristina… please make sure that she doesn't hurt her. If Meredith isn't one hundred percent sure that she wants to make it work then don't push her to go to Addison. Addie's gone through enough already."
"Alright, alright. Give me the address."
Cristina could almost hear the eyeroll the Latina was surely doing but grinned as Callie gave her the address. After wishing Callie a good night with a chuckle that more than likely earned her another eye roll she hung up to make another call.
A few more calls and after some packing, everything ready. Next would be the actual hard part but she was Cristina Yang so she could do it. She could do anything.
"Well, almost anything. Sorta failed at getting married. Didn't I?" She shook her head. "You know what… suck it Preston Burke. Who even needs some self serving prick like you anyway? Trying to change what I am, who I am. Suck it. I'll be better than you ever imagined. Just you watch."
Wearily Meredith stepped out of the bathroom. She had completely avoided looking at her reflection already knowing what she'd likely find. Her eyes still stung from all her crying. The tears she had fought against had stubbornly made themselves known, mixing in with the water spraying from the shower.
Avoiding any eye contact with the other person in the room, she placed her bundle of clothing in their small laundry bag. Cristina grunted from the couch and she allowed herself a quick glance noticing her person pointing at their lunch, which consisted of French fries and ice cream.
"This is lunch?" She let out a small chuckle.
"This is what you need."
"Just me?"
Cristina eyed her for a few seconds and nodded, "yeah. I'm fine. You aren't."
"Cristina…"
At her warning tone Cristina only rolled her eyes and shrugged. "Whatever. Eat."
The TV was playing in the background and while Cristina seemed to be solely focused on it she was more into the strawberry ice cream and fries. This was her number one choice in comfort food. Izzy used to make fun of it along with Alex until she herself had tried the little combination. It was great, sweet and savory at the same time. The perfect fusion to let her mind ponder the question of why it tasted so good and went together so well and what other things she could combine.
"Are you good to go?"
She turned to look at her person, "hmm?"
"We are talking, Meredith. We are having this conversation right now?"
"Are you seriously on with this again?" Meredith grunted looking away. "There is nothing to talk about. I have nothing to say."
"Not to worry. I've got plenty."
"You know what? You're insufferable." She stood, ready to leave. "Let me know when you've regained your senses."
Cristina shot up from where she sat on the couch, blocking her way. The dull pain she felt was quickly morphing into anger but her person didn't seem to be bothered by it one bit.
"You are going to sit back down and we're going to do this."
"Cristina, don't make me-"
"Make you what? You're nothing but a twig, Meredith. You aren't strong enough to move me. But come on," Cristina motioned with her hands, "knock yourself out."
Meredith glared at her person, feeling her hands shake at her inability to get out of the upcoming conversation. Cristina was right, she would have better luck moving a boulder than she would the brunette. Especially when Cristina got like this.
Arms crossed and with an angry grumble she sat back down. Her gaze fixed on the TV, trying mightily to focus on the game show that was playing. If Cristina wanted to talk then fine, she could talk. That, however, didn't mean Meredith had to pay attention.
"You are acting like a brat." Cristina muttered before taking the remote and shutting the TV off.
The only response she gave was a slight huff of annoyance to which Cristina huffed back. The brunette sat sideways to face her better and for a few unbearable moments remained quiet. Meredith was just about to tell her to get on with it when Cristina finally spoke.
"You are a fool. No, an idiot. No wait, that doesn't even cover half of what you are."
She was well aware that her person's words, her tone, were nothing but a taunt. Still, she was bigger than that. She knew not to react. Meredith could recognize a challenge when she saw one. Thing was that Cristina could recognize one too.
"You are… a coward. I could also call you a brute. You know? Like one of those meat heads. Just a useless pack of muscles with a brain that's just there for show. It's like you're ugh…"
At Cristina's disgusted sound she turned to look at her friend. The urge to strike the brunette at her nonchalant expression, making her palm tingle.
"Actually, I don't know what you are." Cristina said with a heavy sigh. "What do you call someone who stares happiness in the face and still pushes it away, still lets it go? I really have no word for it. Even with my dark and twisty I can't understand how you'd let go."
Her person's words and the way she now looked at her chiseled at her heart. She could feel the sting in her eyes and the slight tremble of her bottom lip. Before Cristina's intense gaze melted her resolve not to break she turned away, her gaze trained on the dark TV screen.
"Why would you let her go?"
'You know why?' She wanted to say. Because Cristina knew. She had been there the morning after Susan's death. She had seen how broken she was. She herself had listed the reasons.
"Why would you rather subject yourself to this? Don't you feel empty? Don't you feel lost? Alone?"
The hold she had over her tears vanished and so did all the strength she had left. Her voice was barely more than a whisper when she spoke, "stop."
"Stop? We just started, Meredith."
"What do you want from me? Why are you doing this, Cristina? Why?" Her voice came out so broken it was hardly recognizable and she watched as her person softened at the sound.
"Because Mer… we do need this. We need you to get your happy ending."
Meredith let out a scoff before looking away, "I don't deserve it."
"Why?"
"Because I'm-"
"You? Because you're you? Because you're too broken? Because you haven't healed? Because you're not enough for her?"
"Yes! Because that is all I have to give. Just some poor excuse of a human being. And that isn't fair."
"Be honest, Meredith. Those are just excuses for the real reason. They may add to it but they're not it. Tell me why you left her." Cristina pushed and she turned to look at her stunned, unable to see what else she could be talking about.
"I don't know what you-"
"Why Meredith?"
"I just told you. I don't-"
"Why?"
"I-"
"Why?! Why can't you have your happy ending? Why did you run from it? What are you hiding? Why don't you let yourself love her? Why did you push her away? Why are you here? Why?"
The slew of rapid fire questions was slowly taking its toll on her and by the looks of it Cristina was nowhere near done. Her person just continued on with her whys and whats without allowing her to get a word in. Not that she had any other answer. Cristina had already given her reasons. But that fact didn't deter the brunette as she continued.
Each question was like a sledgehammer striking at her heart relentlessly. Her tears a never ending stream down her cheeks. And still Cristina kept on, mercilessly tearing at her with the everlasting interrogation.
"Why Mer? Tell me what is keeping you from her?" Cristina allowed a few seconds before saying more. "Derek isn't a variable. Much less Sloan. And… she loves you. I know it and you know it. So why? Why did you shove and run? Go on. I need to understand why you would rather sit here in pain instead of going back and being happy. Why, Meredith? Wh-"
Before Cristina could finish her last word Meredith stood and screamed, "because I'm scared!" She paced as sobs wracked through her chest but continued on - the truth will out. "Because I… I'm terrified. Because if I give myself again there won't be anything left. Because… because… oh god… because I love her so much that if she goes I don't know what will happen to me."
"I know what will happen to you." Cristina said softly, drawing her attention once more. "I'm seeing it right now."
"Everyone I've loved either betrays me or… or leaves me."
"That's not true. You love me - which, disgusting - but I'm still here."
At those words she gave a small chuckle before sitting back down next to Cristina, her gaze fixed back on the TV. She was right. She loved Cristina more than a friend. She loved her in the way she supposed one would love a sister. And yes, Cristina was still here. She hadn't abandoned her and though she was feeling slightly betrayed earlier she hadn't actually betrayed her. Her person was trying to help her in the only way she knew how.
"And you love her too." Cristina said softly. "She'd be here but you pushed her away."
A whimper escaped her at the brunette's words. The truth stung. It did. It stung in a way that hurt too much.
"Also you're right, you know?" Cristina continued. "It's not fair. After she was ready to give you everything you still weren't. You were too busy being scared. Too busy feeling worthless."
"That's because I am. I am nowhere near enough for her."
Cristina chuckled bitterly, "yeah. I think that adds to the list of reasons why she's not here. You were so worried you weren't enough for her that you made her feel like she wasn't enough for you."
Meredith turned sharply at her person's words, eyes going wide. An immense wave of pain began to wash over her. Forget drowning in the bay. Forget drowning at her father's words. Now… she was truly drowning now.
"You do realize that, don't you?" Cristina seemed too lost in her own words to notice how they were affecting her. "Put yourself in her place for a moment, Mer. Do you think she wasn't scared? From what I've seen she has also loved only to be betrayed and left behind or pushed aside."
She wasn't ready for this conversation at all. She wasn't ready for any of this and at her person's next words she was convinced of that fact.
"Do you realize you make a part of the number of people who've done that to her?"
The world went mute but her head, her thoughts, grew louder than she could bear. No. No. No!
She wasn't… she didn't… she couldn't… breathe. She hadn't done that to Addison. She hadn't. She had let her go. She had only pushed her so she could be happy. So she could be ok. She had pushed her away so that… because she… Addison didn't need her. Addison was ok. She hadn't hurt her like that. She hadn't… but she had. Oh she had.
"N-no…" The mangled word ripped from her throat. "I ca-can't…"
"Mer?"
Cristina's voice came through muffled, as if she were underwater.
"Meredith?"
"Meredith! Breathe! Dammit, breathe!"
"I-I c-can't."
"Yes. You can. Breathe and tell me three things."
She shook her head but Cristina held onto her arms.
"Three things, Mer. Three things you can see."
Swallowing she tried to focus on the task at hand. Finding three things. Simple enough.
"I-ice cream b-bowl. T-TV. Y-your earring."
Cristina nodded, taking a deep breath and motioning her to follow. "Ok. Three sounds."
"The A-AC. That stupid bird." Cristina chuckled at that one. "Your… your breathing."
"Good. Now move your 5th phalanx on your left hand." At her instruction she followed through. "Alright. Now move your right shoulder counterclockwise." She did as she was told, feeling her mind calming exponentially. "Ok. Now, stick out your tongue."
"Cristina..."
"Do it."
Once she stuck out her tongue her person visibly relaxed and moved to sit back beside her. Meredith noticed her breathing had gone back to normal and she wasn't feeling the weight of the world on her chest.
"I'm sorry." Cristina mumbled next to her.
"It's ok. You didn't mean to."
"But I did… I did mean for you to see what you did to her."
Meredith felt her heart stumble as it had before and took a deep breath. She looked at her person as she offered her a tissue and wordlessly took it.
"I really don't understand, Meredith. You two are in love."
"Yeah, like you and Burke. Look how that turned out." She blurted out the words before she could stop to think of what she was saying. The pained expression on Cristina's face made her backpedal. "Cristina, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to h-"
"Hurt me?" Cristina chuckled bitterly. "You did but it's only fair, right. I'm doing that to you."
"That doesn't make it-"
"Burke and I are nothing like you and Addison." Cristina interrupted her. "Burke. He may have loved me. Or at least a version of me. The version he could mold and manipulate. The one he could fit into a perfect box. And I didn't see it," with a scoff she continued, " but despite everything I love him. I know that'll go away. Slowly… but it will go away."
"Cristina, I'm sorry."
"He wanted to change me. He wanted a husk but the thing is that being a husk, following after someone else's footsteps, isn't me. He wanted to be it. For my whole existence to revolve around him but the thing is that in my world I am the sun."
Meredith could see her person's resolve. There was pain in her eyes, yes. She knew that pain would stick for a while and yet her person was resolved to move past it. She was Cristina Yang, after all, and there was nothing she couldn't do.
"Yes you are."
"I don't know exactly when Addison fell in love with you." Cristina said, turning fully to her while she shifted uncomfortably. "What I do know is that at your lowest she was still in love with you. She didn't look to change you. I think she enjoys the bits of dark and twisty, even. She didn't want to mold you. She saw you and wanted you."
"Cristina-"
"Meredith, I know happiness doesn't depend solely on a single person. I just told you I'm the sun and I know I can get out of this idiotic slump on my own. I'm not pushing you so you can go and be dependent on her." Cristina uncharacteristically grasped her hand. "You are broken. You haven't even begun to heal. And it will take time for you to be ok, to be fine. But," she swallowed as if disgusted by what she was about to say, "doesn't love speed up that process? Wasn't what she was offering you part of that happiness you want and need?"
Tearing her gaze away and feeling a new prickle of tears she pondered on her person's words. It was difficult to accept them. Even more difficult to let them move her. She was truly scared. She had been hurt so many times by the people who should want to protect her. It was hard to let go even a little bit. It was terrifying.
"I know you're scared, Mer. I know the last time you let go you thought it was forever. Hell, even I believed it, though I didn't and don't like Shepherd. You thought he was the one. Thought he'd bring something good to your life. And he did for a while. But then he broke you. You loved him, like you thought you never would, and he broke you." She felt a shudder at her words. "I saw that pain. I saw what it did to you. But I was never as scared for you as I am now."
"Why?"
"Because now you're hollow, Meredith. You're empty. The way you loved Derek doesn't even hold a candle to the way you love Addison." Cristina let out a scoff and shook her head. "Seriously, how the hell did you hide it so well?"
"Guess I have my ways."
They were quiet for a while. Her head was a jumble of thoughts and feelings. It felt overwhelming but her person's touch helped her stay grounded. She wondered if that was why Cristina was holding onto her hand. Her person hated this kind of physical touch.
"Addison is broken too." Cristina said softly and she turned to look at her. "She didn't tell me. That brokenness, I could see." She smiled sadly. "She left because she's like me. She knows she's her own sun. But she also knows what I'm telling you. She knows that you can both be broken. You can both be healing. And you can get through it all together. So she tried but you didn't let her and because she's her own sun she let you push her away."
"I…"
"Meredith... go back to her. Go bring her back home with you. Don't do it because I'm telling you. Don't even do it because of her. Do it for you. Stop being scared for just a little while. For just long enough to get moving to where you're supposed to be moving. To where it will be good."
"But what if… what if she doesn't want me back?"
"For crying out loud, Meredith. You really think she won't want you back? You really think she isn't feeling as hollow as you? That she doesn't follow every blonde twig walking around thinking it's you?" Cristina huffed and rolled her eyes. "I know she wants you back. I know she does double takes on every blonde she sees. I know she wakes up most nights after weird dreams of you. I know she cries in the shower. I know she spends her days daydreaming of blonde hair and blue eyes - ughh. I know she loves you."
"You really noticed all of that?" Meredith gave her a small smile.
"I'm your person. I notice it all. I see and know even more than her."
"You didn't notice I fell in love with her."
Cristina glared at her and she felt herself grin. Once more they grew quiet. The bird outside their window annoyedly chirped while they sat together. Her person at some point had slipped her arm around hers. They must look like quite the bitter pair. Just sitting there tired and in pain. She wondered what Addison would think if she saw her like this. She wondered how the redhead would react to the decision she was slowly coming to.
"Do you… do you really believe everything you said?"
"Meredith…"
"Please, I just… please?"
Cristina looked at her and she could see the remorse swirling in her eyes, "I believe it. The good and the bad. I am sorry about the bad though. I didn't want to hurt you like I did."
"You just wanted me to listen." Tears swam in her eyes and reflected in her person's as well. "I'm still scared. But I think… maybe I-"
"Maybe you should still try?"
She nodded in reply brushing away her tears before leaning back and leaning her head on her person's shoulder. Cristina grumpily leaned her own head on top of hers and she smiled involuntarily.
"God, that was too much work." Her person mumbled. "Please don't make me do it again."
"I promise next time we have to have a conversation like this I'll do the talking."
Cristina chuckled and soon she joined in. Silence reigned again until Cristina's alarm went off loudly.
"Shit. Go get ready or we'll be late."
"What?"
"Unless you wanna go in pajamas. But then you'll see her in pajamas too, so… I don't know. Up to you."
"What the heck are you talking about?"
"Meredith, you really think I'd do a half assed job?"
Meredith looked at her person as if she had grown a second head. She was so utterly confused as to what Cristina was talking about while the brunette only grew more annoyed.
"Go get ready. Our plane leaves at 1 pm. We have like 40 minutes."
"What plane?"
"Meredith, you're getting her back, right?"
Cristina huffed at her confusion and stood up before making her way to the suitcases. Meredith followed her and it was then that she noticed all of her things were missing. Everything had been packed up and put away, the Cristina way, of course. Her clothes were thrown haphazardly in her suitcase without being folded. It looked more like a bomb had gone off in there rather than her things being packed away.
"I'm taking you to Addison. Grab what you want to wear and put it on. We are leaving in 10 minutes."
"But I-"
"Don't question. Just do. You're wasting my time."
"You're bringing me to Addison?"
"As I said, I don't do half assed jobs. Move!"
Before her person could shove her towards the bathroom she turned and hugged her quickly. At Cristina's grumble she moved away and went to change. She couldn't believe she was doing this. It was crazy. It was scary. But she was doing it. Cristina was right. She had hurt her with her words but at the same time she had given her the strength to move. She had said it before. The truth hurt. It burned and stung. It broke and it drowned. But it did set you free. It did make you move.
So she was going. She would see Addison and she would say back to her what she should have said all those weeks ago. She loved her and she was scared but she was tired of running away. She knew she didn't deserve her but Addison did see her. Addison did want her. Even at her lowest, Addison still wanted to be there. Why fight the current when going along with it is so much better?
She was going. She would see her. She would let herself love her. Just this one more time she would let go and give in.
It was almost eleven at night by the time they arrived at the address Cristina had gotten from Callie. It was dark and it was late. She wanted to go. She wanted to see Addison. After all the pain her person had brought forth she wanted something good to end her day. What better way than with Addison? But it was late. And what if this wasn't the right place? What if she went to the door and some stranger answered?
"Are you sure this is the right place?"
Cristina was already annoyed with her. She had asked the same questions over and over and over again. Her exasperation was clear in her tone as she spoke. "Get. Out. Of. The. Car."
"Fine." Meredith hissed and walked out of the car.
"Take your suitcase, you idiot."
"Gahh. You're so annoying." She opened the backseat door and pulled her suitcase out. "Happy now?"
"Yeah, once you get inside."
Rolling her eyes she made her way down the walkway to the beach house's door while still huffing and puffing a bit. It wasn't until she reached the door, with its glass window that the nerves began to set in once more. She looked back at Cristina who was still parked in front of the house, motioning for her to hurry up.
After a deep breath she rang the doorbell, listening intently. She gasped as she heard the sweet ring of that oh-so-familiar laugh. It was the right house and the redhead coming to view at the other side of the door confirmed it.
Her mouth ran dry and the smile Addison had on her face slowly fell. She managed to shake herself out of her trance in order to wave awkwardly at the redhead. The action seemed to also break Addison out of her stupor. Slowly she made her way to the door. Jade eyes trapped in her blue as the door swung open.
"You're here…"
Her voice. Her voice made her heart leap. Made her shudder. Her eyes stung slightly and she knew tears were pooling in them. She didn't know how but she managed to get her voice working just long enough to respond.
"I'm here, Addison."
Wow, I haven't written in a long while. I don't know how I like this but everytime I go into an involuntary hiatus and come back I feel rather inadequate. Feel like my writing is disconnected but most of the time you guys like it so I said to myself "Fuck it. Send it." So here it is. I hope you enjoyed the angst and if you didn't I'm sorry. Really really I tried. Anyway for this fic there's only one more chapter left. Sometimes I say one more and then the writing gods are like nope but I don't know I feel like one more chapter and we're good. That's enough rambling out of me.
Stay awesome, Potatoes! ツ
