Okay, so this might be the chapter you were looking for. Also wanted to give a warning for this chapter, there is a fair bit of violence and torture throughout.

"No!"

Pain erupted against Artemis' back and he gritted his teeth with his eyes screwed tightly shut. He spat out blood that filled his mouth onto the cold, cement floor beneath him.

"I - I don't…" He tried to spurt out, tugging his arms against his bonds. Artemis was kneeling on the floor, his wrists chained to it. His shirt was almost tattered off, and his back was bloodied with whatever Hawthorne was striking him with. "I don't know what…What you want me t-to say!"

Hawthorne stalked around the younger man, a smirk on his lips. "Your name." He kneeled down, grabbing a fistful of Artemis' hair and yanking his head up.

Artemis could feel the blood dripping down his lip. "Fowl. Artemis Fo-Agh!" Artemis cried out as a blade gashed into his shoulder. Hawthorne got up to step away and Artemis' head fell down, panting as pain shot through his body.

"I've told you. Artemis Fowl is dead." Hawthorne spat out, slicing a cut across Artemis' shoulder blades with a long knife. "You are Artemis James now, and you will do right to ingrain that in your mind forever. The sooner you start, the sooner the pain ends." Hawthorne swung his arm down, stabbing the knife through his captor's thigh roughly.

Artemis screamed in pain, flailing and trying to get away as Hawthorne held the blade into him. The pain radiated along his leg, blood seeping around the silver knife and soaking through his dress pants. They wanted him to forget his entire identity. His parents, Butler, Juliet, the ? Why was he taken for this? "Stop, please!" He begged, his voice strangled with a painful sob.

"Say it!" Hawthorne growled, twisting the knife slowly. "What is your name?" His anger grew when Artemis didn't answer for a moment, shaking his head and pulling away; the knife going with him. "For a supposed criminal mastermind, you are an idiot." The man walked over to the side.

Artemis sucked in heaving breaths, glaring up at him. "So that's what this is about? You took me because of my stature?" He didn't even try twisting his wrists in the cuffs anymore, knowing he wouldn't be able to run if he managed to pry free.

"Don't flatter yourself." Hawthorne chuckled, cleaning the blood off the knife with a rag and putting it on a table with a plethora of other weapons. "That was a good motivator to take you in and rehabilitate you, though."

Artemis let out one wry scoff, his chest rising and falling quickly. "Rehabilitation? Is that your sick way of making you feel better about doing this?" He looked back over his shoulder at the man, glaring. "You do realize that people will be looking for me?"

That made a sick, low chuckle come from Hawthorne's throat, picking up a long metal rod off the table. Artemis' mouth suddenly felt dry. "Oh, they'll look." He replied ominously, circling Artemis slowly. The metal scraped against the floor as he walked, making the genius' ears ring. "For a while. But when they find the body, that will come to a stop."

"'The' body?" Artemis blinked, "Not mine?"

"Keep up 'genius.'" Hawthorne mocked, lifting Artemis' chin with the tip of his weapon. "Why do you think we took your tooth out?" His eyes flashed and were hard as he stared at Artemis. "Artemis Fowl is dead. You are Artemis James."

"Changing my last name to my middle name won't change my memory." Artemis pulled away from Hawthorne's hold. "I am Artemis F-" Another scream erupted from Artemis' throat as Hawthorne struck him in the back of the head with the steel.

"James." Hawthorne growled, kicking him swiftly in the side and causing Artemis to slump onto the floor. "Artemis James." He kneeled, leaning against the metal rod he was holding and cocking his head. "You act like I've never done this before. Don't question my methods, James. Just succumb. Say. It."

Artemis blinked back stars from his vision, groaning as he spat out blood again. He couldn't survive much more of this, and he knew it. He just had to hold out until Butler found him. He had to play along until then. Just until then.

He was taking too long to think for Hawthorne, who took his rage out on Artemis' shin with a strong blow. Something cracked in Artemis' leg, which caused Artemis to flail in pain again. "Stop!"

"Say it!" Hawthorne barked at him, laying his weapon against his rib cage in a threat of what was to come next. "What is your name?"

"James!" Artemis cried, his arms wrapping around his ribs in a small effort to protect his ribs. "My name is Artemis James."

Hawthorne grinned smugly, standing up and looking down at him for a moment before striking Artemis' rib cage cruelly.

"Again!"

Artemis' eyes flew open and he sat up immediately. Strands of hair clung to his forehead as he sucked in deep breaths over and over again and looked around the dark room. He was shaking, his fingers ripping the fabric of the bedspread around him as he gripped the material.

"Artemis?" Holly blinked sleepily, yawning and sitting up. "What's wrong?" She put a hand on his chest, watching his face closely. Holly could see he was in pain, and could feel his heart racing. "Bad dream?"

He shook his head, his eyes softening slightly as he looked over at Holly. "No. A-A memory, I think. One that I must have suppressed." Artemis pulled away from her, getting up and starting to pace.

Holly watched Artemis grab fistfuls of his hair. He went from one end of the room to the other again and again. She had never seen him act like this before. She had seen angry, seething, and maybe sad, but this was pure panic. He was extremely upset and frightened, and Holly didn't know if she should say a word to try and comfort him.

Artemis stopped after at least a solid ten minutes of pacing and thinking. He ran a hand through his hair, looking wildly at her. "We have to go." He told her crisply, walking over to his bags and starting to pack everything into it. "We can't stay here."

That stopped Holly's heart. No. They couldn't leave. Artemis was finally starting to remember his old life here. Butler was here. Foaly was here. "What?" She murmured, getting off the bed. Holly walked over to him slowly.

"We've been here far too long. We have to keep moving to stay off the radar." Artemis didn't look at her, stuffing clothes into the bag with no order or form. He kept his eyes on the bag with the occasional glance at the door or the window. Sunlight was slowly starting to fill the room. "We have to go." Artemis added again, whispering the words to himself.

"Artemis-" Holly cut his movement off, grasping his arm gently to stop him. Artemis jumped back instinctively. He looked up at her with wide eyes, and Holly saw a glimpse of hurt in them. What was this memory he had? Was it because of the flute? "We are safe here." She breathed. "I promise you. Please."

He shook his head, pulled away and looked at her incredulously. "We are never safe, Holly!" He exclaimed, breathing heavily. "You don't understand the reach that they have. If we stay in one place, they will find us. We are leaving, end of discussion." Artemis walked over to the bathroom, glancing through the room to see if there was anything they could bring with them.

Holly followed him, going into the bathroom with him. "I'm not leaving." She told him firmly, closing the door and leaning against it.

She didn't know if the words or the click of the door made Artemis whirl to face her with wide eyes and a frown on his face. "What?" He replied sharply.

"I'm not leaving here, and I don't think you should either. This place is a fortress, thanks to Butler's security measures. It's the safest place I can think of to be." Holly put her hands behind her, on the doorknob in case Artemis chose to try to reach behind her and leave.

Artemis paced in the small space again, this time his eyes never leaving Holly. It struck Holly that his movements reminded her of a wild animal. The look in his eyes and the pacing, like an animal stuck in a cage and planning its escape. "I am leaving, and you are coming with me." Artemis growled lowly, stalking toward her until he was so close to her, Holly could feel the heat radiating from his body. "Wherever I go, you go. Whatever I do, you do. You do not have a say." He put a hand over the bandage on her hip. "I can do whatever I please, make no mistake. I could rip this open. The pain would be unbearable as the blood seeps out. I could make you scream until you beg me to stop." His other hand around her throat, pushing her into the door behind him.

Holly looked up at him, planting her feet firmly in the ground to stop her knees from shaking. This wasn't him. This was the fear of whatever memory came over him last night. Holly reached to him, putting one hand on the waist of his pants to steady herself and the other on his chest. "I don't believe for a second you'll do that to me." She told him lightly, countering the roughness of his voice with a tinge of sadness in hers.

He blinked once, looking down at his hands gripping her throat and hip. "What?"

"You heard me." Holly swallowed, making her more aware of his hand on her neck. Tears threatened to form in her eyes, and she couldn't help but think if this was what Artemis felt all the time. This scared helplessness that he was causing her to feel. He had caused her to feel this before, but now she knew that he had gone through hell. "I don't think you'll hurt me. You apologized when you did before. Think about how you felt then, because if you hurt me again that apology didn't mean anything. And I trust you, Artemis. I trust that you don't want to hurt me."

Artemis' grip on her loosened a little bit and Holly could see his mind processing her words. "Holly…" He murmured, the wildness in his eyes fading.

Holly sucked in deep breaths when Artemis' hand on her neck dropped. She stayed completely still, despite wanting to hold him. The wisest thing would be to wait until he was completely calm again before she tried getting close again. "What happened, Artemis?"

He pulled away from her at her words, swinging around to grasp the side of the sink. "You mean what's wrong with me." Artemis closed his eyes, leaning over the sink with his head bowed down.

"I didn't say that." Holly admonished softly. She pushed away from the door, cautiously walking over to him at a slow pace. The last thing she wanted to happen was to spook him, and she leaned her better side against the counter, watching his face. "I don't think there's anything wrong with you. You've been through some really messed up things. But none of it is your fault. You're scared."

Artemis inhaled deeply at her words, stumbling back and sitting on the edge of the bathtub. He put his head in his hands, not daring to look at her. "I am." He admitted, rubbing his hands over his face and looking back down. "The memory was-"

"You don't need to tell me." Holly shook her head, looking at him.

"No. I do." Artemis sighed. "When I was first taken, I went through the rehabilitation process."

Holly blinked at the familiar word. He had said that word before. "The same one I was going to go through if you turned me in?" She asked softly, wanting to walk over to him but deciding to wait until his recount was over.

Artemis nodded, "Ultimately, yes. I was tortured, physically by Hawthorne. Beaten and bloody and chained to the floor. Hawthorne kept telling me that I was no longer Artemis Fowl, but Artemis James. He forced me to admit it over and over again." His eyes flicked up to Holly and he wrung his hands together. "I remember my name, Holly. You were right."

"Oh, Artemis.." Holly couldn't hold back anymore, going over to him and wrapping her arms around him silently.

Artemis didn't move to put his hands on her and Holly's heart clenched. He was probably afraid of scaring or hurting her again. "I have to keep you away from them. They can't get to you." He stumbled through his words. I keep thinking back to when Troy was holding you. When Cooper leaned over you." Artemis shuddered, shaking his head. "I wanted to kill them. I still do. They're the only people that have been there as long as I can remember and the thought of going back to them makes me sick."

Holly stroked his hair softly and buried her face in his soft locks. "I'm right here. I'm with you." She assured him.

"That's why we have to leave." Artemis pleaded, pulling away from her a little to look in her eyes. Holly could see the panic setting in again, but it wasn't as wild as before. He was more grounded now, talking through it with her instead of barking orders at her.

Holly paused to think for a moment before she sank to her knees, cupping his face in her hands and looking at him. "Artemis, please do something for me."

Artemis was still for a moment, looking in her hazel eyes. "What, Holly?" He caved in, sighing as he leaned into her.

"Just…" Holly licked her lips, closing her eyes for a moment before looking up at him again. She couldn't believe she was about to bargain with him. "Speak to Butler about his security here. Please let him show you what I'm talking about. About why it's so safe here. If you aren't satisfied with it, I will go anywhere with you - willingly. I promise."

Artemis' eyes never left hers. He thought for a long moment, so long that the thought of Artemis dragging her out of the room to keep packing flashed through her mind. She didn't say anything though, just kept pleading with him with her eyes while her thumb ran across the soft skin of his cheek. Finally, he nodded swiftly. "Fine. Let's go talk to him."

What did you think? It's been years since I've written anything like this (the last chapter was already halfway written when I restarted it). It took me a little bit longer to get my thoughts into words for this one.
