Chapter Twilight 2
"Hm, well not exactly experiments though close enough, she turns a page, created by a dark priestess to fight in a human war at a feudal lord's request, she scoffs, typical, however there were side effects…so after their victory he ordered for their disposal as they were uncontrollable but of course a few escape and fled the country going into hiding, the Miko reach for her cup of tea and takes a sip, overtime their numbers increase, creating their own hierarchy believing themselves the superior race because of one particular side effect, she sighs lowering the folder, they actually believe they're vampires" she deadpan.
"Yeah, and they don't even have fangs, Shippo smirk showing sharp canines, I'll take a wild guess and say one of the side effects is drinking blood, one of the reasons they think themselves vampires" he states amuse.
"Most likely from the venomous leach yokai used in their creation, she frowns at a thought, place the teacup down then flips to a certain page, let's see… rock yokai's heart, celestial maiden's blood, venomous leech corpse, fairy wings, mermaid tear, unicorn horn, huh quite a few rare items, she glances suspiciously at her son, how did you get this list of exact specific ingredients, son?"
"Like I said I've got connections everywhere" he averts his gaze.
"Uh-huh, she glances back to the page, apparently using a living human to consume the concoction gives a better result than a low-level yokai, seems they're sturdy but easy to dispose of by strong spiritual energy, a more capable low-level yokai or fire. After reading this they aren't even a cause for concern we can just treat them the same as any low-level yokai only a bit stronger, more appealing to look at and more intelligent, she leans back with a sigh, in conclusion other than blood drinking their bite is venomous which change their victims, that increase their numbers, their bodies would be hard and sturdy from the rock yokai, probably doesn't bleed either, their enchanting looks from the celestial blood, she trails off, though when dealing with celestial ingredients there can be many variables and mix with mermaid tears that lengthens life, fairy wings enhance the others properties and if the host will is strong enough it could trigger a phenomena" the Miko rants thoughtful.
"Like?" Shippo prompt, paused in eating intrigue.
"Abilities, specific to their desire, self-actualization" Kagome runs manicure fingers through silk raven strands.
"Like any normal celestial, make sense, Shippo muse, they're a far cry from real vampires though they have few things in common, the kitsune cross his leg, like blood dinking, longer life span and enchanting looks, he list off, while a real vampire has fangs, sleeps, burn in the sun and is stronger on par with high-level yokais, harder to kill, well, the Lords are though not to Daiyokais and any capable Miko, the lords can shapeshift into animals or use them as familiars and most of them are crazy and or creeps" he shudders.
"That's true" she smirks at his reaction.
"Wait, wouldn't there be a clash between certain ingredients" he points out.
"That why the unicorn horn was used, it's the stabilizing agency, a look of realization overtook her expression, drinking blood prevents their body from fully hardening" she frowns.
"But isn't that an effect of the leech yokai?" the kitsune tilts his head cutely confuse.
"Partly, anyway I discovered some shifters" the Miko rest pale cheek on her fist, elbow resting on the coach armrest, changed the subject.
"Huh, there are still some here, I thought they all move to Makai centuries ago?" he asked even more confused.
"Apparently not though the ones I 'ran' into are mostly humans with barely any yokai blood meaning they only know how to shift into one form and most likely know nothing about the supernatural community, she massages her temple with a sigh, I don't want to get involve with them, if possible, they'll die out in a couple decades so I see no point in making further contact" she stares intensely at Shippo.
"What?" he asked a cookie close to his mouth to bite into.
"I know you Shippo, don't interfere with them" her stare turns into a glare.
"F-fine, jeez, no need to glare, he raised his hands in surrender, what about those…um what do we call those undead humans?"
"Whatever you want, I don't care" she replied twirling a lock of hair on her index finger.
"So, they're free game, right?" he asked hopeful.
"Knock yourself out, I need something to kill my boredom, ugh I have to attend that hormonal teen infested school, she groans then slumps on the armrest, hand drape across, you should drive me there tomorrow, stir some gossip, give the locals something to alleviate their boredom, then find out how many undead are here and if they're responsible for the murders."
"Couldn't you just spread your aura to the entire area and find that out easily?" Shippo inquires finishing the last of his snack licking his thumb and index fingers.
"The situation isn't that urgent Shippo, she groans, why waste the energy and couldn't you do the same."
"Weren't you complaining about wanting to go home not too long ago, he sweat drop, besides I would only be able to detect their numbers, aura reading is one of your specialties."
"Of course I could, but I'm too lazy to put in the effort, must be something in the air or the Town's dreary atmosphere's getting to me "she pulls her legs up on the coach then rest the side of her head on the armrest closing sapphire eyes.
'It hasn't been a week since you've been here' he reaches over and steal a cookie from Kagome's plate then bites into it watching her sulk, 'I wonder what's for dinner.'
The next morning as usual students and some teachers pulls into the school parking lot. The Cullens loitering as they'd arrive early except Edward who went to pick up Bella.
He drives in 30 minutes later.
As Bella is greeting the others Kagome's car drive in with the top down, all present could see a redhead handsome male in the driver seat.
Everyone watches the new girl exchange a few whispered words with the redhead then place a loving kiss on his cheek which he reciprocates, she got out and he drives off with a shout of "pick you up later gorgeous!"
Kagome walk towards the building ignoring her audience only shooting a quick curious glance at the Cullens, 'how interesting, their eyes color is different today.'
"Alice, is something wrong?" Bella asked at seeing her troubled expression.
"I can't see her" Alice replied concern.
"Who Alice?" Jasper asked.
"The new girl, Kagome."
"What do you mean you can't see her?" Edward demands.
"Every time I try to look into her future it's like, it's hard to explain, it's like looking into an endless void of white" she voices unease.
"What does it mean?" Bella asked curious.
"I don't know, Alice looks up the stairs and stiffens at seeing narrowed sapphire eyes staring straight at her then Kagome turns and continue walking, but if we want answers asking her is the fasting way" she feels unnerve.
"And risk exposing ourselves, shouldn't we just avoid her, we have enough problems already" Rosalie spoke up sending a subtle glance at Bella.
"Easier said than done" Emmett mutters.
"I agree with Rosalie, they turn their gaze to Edward, there's something off about her and I can't read her mind."
"I can't read her either" Jasper adds.
The Cullens grew more wary.
"Why are you guys so worried, isn't she just a human" Bella mutters.
"Then explain why none of our abilities work on her?" Edward glares frustrated.
Bella bites her lip having nothing to say though a bit hurt by his anger at her.
Everything was normal for Kagome during classes other than overhearing student's theories about who Shippo was to her. Until at lunch when she sat by the same window in the cafeteria and Alice Cullen decides to join her.
"Hi, I'm Alice" she offers a hand to shake.
"Well, Alice, what can I do for you?" the Miko ignores the hand replying to a text.
Whispers erupts amongst the students present.
"Mind if I sit?" Alice continued unfazed.
"Last I check it's a free country" she retorts then takes a drink from her water bottle still fiddling with her cell.
"So, you moved here from Japan, Alice states to start the conversation receiving a 'Hn' in reply, "I'm curious to ask why?"
Kagome pause in typing a rely to finally look at the small undead female, "No specific reason just felt like a change in scenery" the Miko stares into Alice eyes unflinching.
"What about your parents, did they not move with you?"
"You seem awfully interested in my personal affairs Miss Cullen, I'd advise you not stick your nose where It doesn't belong and we won't have any problems" she ends with a polite smile then gets up and walk away, leaving behind a silent cafeteria.
To be continued...
