Chapter 6: Ultraman Jack and Mizuno Ami
Ami just got off work from the office, it was a stressful day. She has to work on the documents. Saeko was preparing dinner when she got back.
"Mom? You've come back early?"
"Yes, Ami. Today the head of the hospital told me I could have a half day off, So I got off early. Dinner is almost done, please change."
Ami changed her clothing to Pajamas and got out of her bedroom. In the table, there were two bowls of white rice, and miso soup on the other side; with 6 pieces of fried chicken, along with a bowl of cabbage on the plates.
"Please eat." Saeko said.
"Mom. I have something to say to you." Ami said as she put a cabbage to her mouth.
"What's the matter?"
"It's like today, I saw one of my colleagues are talking loudly on the phone, the boss was having a meeting with other person, so he cannot be able to look after us, I was in the middle of editing the documents, and he was disturbing everyone. We tried to persuade him to stop, but he was continuing."
"Did you manage to finish edit the document then, Ami?"
"There were not much errors, so I'm able to finish it on time."
"What are you trying to imply for?"
"It's like, selfish is one of human's biggest sin in the world, right?"
"Yes, why?"
"Why can't people learn from what they have done? I'm worried in the future that my colleagues won't be able to learn from mistakes."
"Speaking of selfishness, It's common in hospitals, I've seen it almost every day. One time, I saw one of the person supposed to get the medicine by the staff, however a teen suddenly barged in and took the medicine from the staff's hand. The teen and the man have a big fight, that the teen suddenly pulled out a razor and point it to the man. I was so scared."
"Mom, are you alright afterwards?"
"The security came here just in time, and managed to separate them. The police then arrest the teen for equipping a weapon."
"Thankfully you were not injured, I was scared that you are going to be killed by the teen." Ami said as she ate her rice."
"Selfishness is horrible, Ami. No matter everywhere, some normal conflicts which I just mentioned about jumping in line, or even some situations like families, which the husband or wife just hang out with their friends without going back home on taking care of their family, this led to family issues, it happens every day."
"Is there anything that we can stop selfishness, Mom?" Ami asked.
"It's hard to know, Ami."
"That means we just have to cope with it?"
"There is another solution besides nothing to do, You can think of it and tell me one day."
Ami nodded and continued to eat. She knows she just worked in the office for only a week, and have to face such situation of people being selfish and didn't care about her colleagues.
A few hours later, Ami then brushed her teeth and went to sleep, She has a lot of thoughts on what her mother said, about Selfishness. She was wondering on how to improvise. But she was too tired and slept peacefully.
A blue light flashed and it was a person, A silver human with red, curve stripes on his body, his head and mouth were made of metal, was sealed. He has yellow eyes with black pupils on his eyelids. He also have a bracelet on his left wrist. Staring at Ami's sleeping face, his heart felt warmth, as he remembered the time when he was at the Land Of Light, King assigned him for pairing up with Ami, the figure was Ultraman Jack. Jack stared at the blue haired figure, and tried to touch her face, but he knows it would wake Ami up. So, he decided to use his bracelet and raise it, forming a spark of light.
Ami noticed there is light blinding from her eyes, she rubbed for a while, She noticed she is no longer sleeping in her bedroom. She opened her eyes and find out she was in her civilian clothing. She was sleeping on a green hill.
"Why I'm sleeping on top of the hill?"
"I could see you were awake."
"Wait, who are you? Why are you taking me such place?" Ami stuttered.
"I'm Jack, Ultraman Jack. I'm from the Ultra Defense Force."
"Defense force?"
"Yes, I gave orders from my King, he wanted me to meet you."
"What for?"
"Normal chat is enough. King wanted me to have a good relationship with the Sailor Senshi."
"Sailor Senshi? How does he know our appearance?"
"He met with Endymion before, Endymion spoke to him about your appearance. You must be Sailor Mercury, or I should I call you, Mizuno Ami."
"Yes, I'm Ami, Jack san."
"Nice to meet you too."
Ami and Jack shook hands for their first encounter. Then they sat down on the grass.
"Jack san, I have something to ask you."
"What, Ami chan?"
"What do you think of Selfishness?"
"Selfishness?"
"Do you think human selfishness has really gone out of hand in the world?"
"I could say yes, It has gone to an extreme level."
"Extreme level?"
"It hurts to see this happening , although I didn't come to earth much, but I witnessed something terrible."
"Why is that?"
Jack grabbed Ami by the shoulder.
"Jack san, what are you doing?"
"Just want to tell you, my experience. I met a kid who is befriending an alien."
"Alien?"
"His name was Alien Mates."
"Mates? Why he came to earth?"
"Because he wanted to study the serious weather happening in Japan and the pollution, inspecting it. He brings no harm to Earth. I didn't see him having any aggressive actions."
"I thought aliens bring harm to earth."
"Not all." Jack said.
"So, what happened to Mates afterwards?"
"He saw a boy named Ryo lying on a pond, he was an orphan, about to die of starvation, so he took him to a shelter."
"Ryo?"
"That's his name, Ryo."
"Reminds me of a classmate called Urawa Ryo."
"Urawa Ryo, I see."
"He was busy on the studies in overseas so I'm no longer able to find him, Jack san. Before he left, he went for a date in the amusement park with me."
"Good for you, Ami chan. That Urawa could have a date with you."
"So Mates didn't even bring harm to Ryo on what you said."
"Mates is unable to return to his original form for too long in Earth, so he took his form as a human until his strength returned. The weather had affected his body so much, his body is weakening. Because of this, Mates treated Ryo as his son by staying him with a year."
"A year? I'm sure Ryo have a good relationship with Alien Mates."
"But what angers me the most, on what you mention selfishness, is I saw a mob of angry people, treating Alien Mates and Ryo as their enemies, they thought Ryo had befriend with an alien which threatened their hometown." Jack said as he gripped his fist.
"What? Why?"
"They probably thought aliens always bring harm."
"So what happened?"
"I actually tried my best to block the mod, but a police officer opened fire and shot Alien Mates twice, and he died of his wounds." Jack said as he sighed.
"Killed? What?" Ami screamed.
"It was so ironic, Ami, A police officer shot and killed an innocent alien."
"That's so evil."
"Because of this, Mates summoned Muruchi, by attacking the people who just killed him."
"This is so messed up and inhumane! Why they have to be that selfish!"
"Muruchi at that time was so angered and attacked all the people."
"They deserved this! Not listening to the Ryo's explanation!" Ami shouted.
"This is the first time I witnessed human selfishness could be that extreme, which led to a loss of an innocent life."
"What about the people… that killed….Mates?" Ami stuttered.
"Some were killed, I just feel like, are humans really worth to save?"
Ami felt surprised, after hearing what Jack said about Alien Mates being killed, this experience reminds of Saeko, she shared one of the heart-breaking experiences is one of the doctors didn't treat the patient well by applying to a major surgery instead they just only did a minor surgery which didn't require much manpower, the doctor didn't listen to the colleagues advice, thinking a minor surgery could do this, He got angry and yelled at the colleagues to stop being annoying. So he did the minor surgery without listening.
Unfortunately, the surgery failed for only a 15-minute short operation, And it lead to a death of the patient. The family of the patient immediately sent lawsuits against the hospital for negligence, and the doctor got fired after a few days trial. Saeko has also been scolded by the head of the hospital for not giving proper action on her subordinates. She remembered this to this day.
"Did you save the people?" Ami asked.
"I must save them, because of Muruchi, he is invading the earth. If I don't save them, the people would get angry of me of defending an alien."
"So I guess you have to kill Muruchi."
"I must do this, it's my duty."
"What should we do about Selfishness, Jack san?"
"Before I answer the question, Ami chan, are you still studying in high school?"
"No, I'm working right now. I'm working in an office, I talked with my mother about a person, who was talking loudly on the phone when I was working. Because of this, It reminds me when I was a kid, teacher taught me about Selfishness, but it's like, when I was in high school, there are not much signs of selfishness, my classmates are nice, they know what they did is wrong, I just don't get it?" Ami said as she scratched her head.
"Maybe humans change so fast due to the nature?"
"Working in a society is really challenging. And it has a lot of conflict."
"About why I need to kill Muruchi, is some people were not involved in the incident, including people are working in the city and kaiju didn't have any analysis on who is bad and who is good, it just simply attack the earth."
"About the orphan, Ryo. What happened to him?"
"He was digging the spaceship. He felt there is no hope living in earth, he was hoping alien mates would take him away from Earth."
"I feel sorry about what Ryo had faced."
"I cannot do anything, If I persuade him to look forward, he still won't listen."
"Poor Ryo. This is really the first time to hear that Human Selfishness has a big impact on people. The times when me , the gang and Usagi chan fight against the Youmas, which the humans were brainwashed, they bring no harm; Usagi purified them, we all know. But Jack san, on what you shared to me, It such a rare time when an alien actually bring no harm to Earth, Humans have already treated aliens as their arch enemy."
"I wish Ryo could find the spaceship and head to the planet." Ami sighed.
"Ami chan."
"Yes, Jack san?"
"Do you want me to be my partner?"
"Partner?"
"We can talk more about ourselves, about your daily life or something."
"About my friends that I mentioned?"
"You mentioned Usagi. I think she is the leader right?"
"She saved us most of the time when fighting the Youmas."
"Wow. Please let me meet her if she is here."
"I promise."
Ami and Jack heard a voice which was echoing the background, it was Saeko.
"Mom?"
"I think she is trying to wake you up."
"Jack san, can I hug you?"
"Sure."
Ami hugged Jack tightly as she smiled happily that there is a partner for staying with her.
"So, Ami chan. If one day we could meet, I'll wait for you."
"Sure, Jack san." Ami and Jack both grabbed each other's hands, forming a bond of friendship.
Afterwards, the light shined. Ami is awake in her bed.
"Ami, you're late for work!"
"Mom, today is Saturday."
"Sorry, my daughter. I forgot. You slept well yesterday."
"Yes, Mother. I met a person, he shared a lot of about himself, about selfishness."
"That's good, so how would you cope with Selfishness?"
"Improvise."
"The only thing to do is to improvise, stay alert."
"Anyway, Mom. Are you going to the hospital and work?"
"Yes, I almost need to go now, take care!" Saeko said as she changed to her uniform.
Ami then put on her slippers and stared at the sky, she saw Jack's silhouette is waving at her.
"Jack san, I will wait for you anytime." She smiled.
I recently watched the episode of Ultraman Jack and I was inspired by this, so I wrote this chapter. Ultraman really have some memorable episodes, not just fighting kaiju or something, but it also have some thinkable questions that it needs to be considered. How's the chapter?
