While the students were loading up and arming themselves for bear, the pros were on the front line, preparing to face whatever the Russians had for them. However, it was clear that there was unease amongst the pros:

"I don't like this," said Vlad King. "It's much too quiet."

"Neither do I," said Stojanović. "The Russians should've been here by now."

"Easy, Stojanović," said Aizawa. "Let's not get complacent too soon."

"Eraserhead's right," said Endeavor. "Anything can happen, and we must be prepared not only if we're to win this war, but to preserve the public trust in heroes."

"I'm with you!" said Midnight.

Then, the relative peace was broken when the pros heard explosions coming off from the distance. Cementoss chimed in over his communicator:

"Endeavor, this is Cementoss! It's an ambush! The Russians are attacking Haboro from Primorsky Krai! Help us out here!"

Endeavor gasped when he heard the news that the Russians' initial attack was coming from a direction different from what was primarily expected. Even so, he knew how to take charge of the situation:

"Pointer, Midnight, Hawks, Mt. Lady, come with me! Everyone else, stand ready in case the Russians attack from Sakhalin Oblast!"

All the other heroes responded affirmatively, and Endeavor and his group valiantly rushed to meet the Russians. What they got upon making it to Haboro was nothing short of sheer anarchy: bombs, missiles and shells raining down like hell, various Russian pros trying to smash the Japanese pros who were standing on the front lines, buildings being turned to rubble, roads being cratered by explosions, fear being struck into the hearts of civilians. So far, the Japanese pros were holding off the Russians, but it was clear that unless Endeavor and his team did something, then the Haboro front would fall. Thus, they sprung into action.

"FLASHFIRE FIST!"

Endeavor clobbered a Russian pro whose Quirk allowed him to shoot web from his fingers. In the meantime, Yu Takeyama – better known as Mt. Lady – had taken a dip into the Sea of Japan and thrashed some Russian naval ships. More Russian pros attempted to cross the sea and kick some ass, but Stojanović used his Quirk to cancel theirs out long enough for other fellow pros as well as members of the Japan Self-Defense Forces to stop them. Overall, the Sea of Japan had turned into a scene of mass bedlam as Russian naval ships and aircraft polluted the waters with their burning scrap metal and Russian pros had their asses handed to them on the proverbial silver platter. However, the war was far from over, and one key advantage that Russia had over Japan was that the Russian Armed Forces far outstripped the Japan Self-Defense Forces in sheer numbers: about 1,000,000 active-duty personnel and 2,000,000 reserve personnel vs. 250,800 active-duty personnel and 56,000 reserve personnel, respectively, and that wasn't counting all the pro heroes that fought for each side. Nevertheless, Endeavor endeavored to continue fighting, and he encouraged his fellow pros to do the same:

"DON'T BACK DOWN! Millions of people are counting on us!"

While Endeavor, Stojanović and the other pros were working hard on the front lines to halt the Russian invaders, Deku, Lazar, Kacchan, Sladjana, Todoroki and the other students were doing their bit to get civilians in Wakkanai evacuated from their homes before they could get caught in the crossfire. Deku raised a megaphone and made an announcement:

"Attention citizens: this area has come under attack by the Russian Armed Forces. Please evacuate your homes and head away from the coastline in an orderly manner. The pro heroes of our great country are doing their best to…"

"GIMME THAT!" Kacchan snatched the megaphone from Deku. "HEY, GET YOUR ASSES OUTTA HERE, LOSERS! THE RUSSIANS ARE GONNA BOMB THIS PLACE TO HELL!"

Despite Kacchan's rude, crude and vile way of getting the citizens to evacuate, the citizens nevertheless complied with the orders and evacuated, taking whatever personal belongings they saw fit to carry and followed various signs that pointed to emergency evacuation zones, where there were buses awaiting them. So far, the evacuation seemed to be proceeding in a nice, orderly fashion. While Deku and his comrades certainly heard the sounds of battle coming from far away, Deku remained confident that if him, his friends, and the pros hired to protect this country tried their best, then things would at least turn out in their favor. However, Deku's confidence was shaken quite a bit when a nearby house was blown to pieces.

"OH NO! The Russians are already attacking our area! Everyone, see if you can evacuate the civilians faster!"

Various students did their best to get people out of there faster, including Iida with his super speed, Tsu with her frog tongue and Jelica – whose hero costume was a white long-sleeve bodysuit with light blue trim, an eight-pointed star on the chest and white shoes with light blue trim – with her laser bolt Quirk. In spite of the fact that Russian bombs and missiles were raining down on Wakkanai more than the proverbial cats and dogs, the students did their best and steadfastly refused to give up. On the other hand, things continued to deteriorate when men in dark green camo uniforms with orange-and-black St. George ribbons on their helmets and arms parachuted into the streets. Deku recognized them as part of the VDV, Russia's Airborne Forces.

"Chego zhye ty zhdyesh'!?" shouted one Russian soldier. "Davayte ub'yem etikh dzhap ublyudkov!"

Recognizing that the Russians meant business, Deku decided that focusing all of his efforts on evacuating civilians would've been foolhardy, so he whipped out his M16, took aim and fired at the soldiers, using shorter bursts as Todoroki had instructed. Some of the soldiers managed to fire back, but being attendees of the Imperial Marksmanship Academy, they missed by a wide margin. In contrast, Deku's 5.56mm rounds connected with deadly precision, much to the green bean's shock as he nearly dropped his weapon:

"HOLY SHIT! I shot someone!"

Despite being frozen with horror at the realization that yes, he actually shot and killed another human being, Deku soon came to his senses and continued trying to evacuate civilians while fighting off any Russian soldiers and pro heroes who might try anything funny. Todoroki – wielding an AN/M2 Browning machine gun with an M1919 pistol grip – and Lazar – wielding a Zastava M70 AB3 assault rifle – did their best to assist him. Aside from the visor, Lazar's hero costume also included a dark green long-sleeve bodysuit with yellow gauntlets, a yellow utility belt and Yugoslav M77 combat boots.

By now, a cloud of smoke and dust was rising over Wakkanai as the Japanese and Serbians clashed with the Russians to defend Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Yaoyorozu had her own way of assisting by creating retractable emergency barriers to cordon the flow of civilian traffic and protect them against the Russians. She even created a few sentry turrets with M134 miniguns, Mk 19 grenade launchers and AT4 rocket launchers to provide an additional layer of defense against the invading Russian forces. Then, at one point, she turned around, and…

"RPG!"

Fortunately, Sladjana jumped in front of the rocket in time and blocked all the damage with her Quirk. She then proceeded to engage some Russian soldiers and pro heroes with her L1A1 rifle.

"Thanks, Statuewoman!" said Yaoyorozu. "I owe you one!"

"Don't mention it, Creati!"

While Yaoyorozu and Sladjana were engaging ground targets, Kacchan was taking to the skies with his explosive propulsion, where he punched and destroyed a Sukhoi Su-27 fighter jet.

"HA! SUCK ON THAT, LOSERS!"

Continuing his mad rampage in the skies, Kacchan knocked out a wing of Tupolev Tu-95 bombers, which drew more attention from the Russian Air Force.

"YA WANNA PLAY ROUGH!? OK!"

Kacchan continued tearing it up in the skies, taking out a few squadrons of MiG-29s and MiG-35s. He even knocked out a few Russian pros along the way. Aleksandra – herself transformed into a MiG-29 – was assisting. While he was doing this, his best friend Kirishima was not only using his Hardening to protect civilians from Russian bullets, but was giving back some of his own with his MPi-KM-72.

"Eat lead, ya Russkie bastards!"

Owing to the fact that Kirishima's rifle rattled off with the familiar AK chatter upon firing, there were elements of the Russian forces who panicked, thinking that some of their own were firing upon them, which led to some friendly fire incidents.

"Hell yeah!" Kirishima pumped his fist. "Red Riot's on the scene!"

However, infantry, aircraft and pros weren't the only threats that the students had to deal with. The VDV had also airdropped vehicles such as T-72 battle tanks and BMD-3 APCs. In fact, Deku turned one corner while evacuating civilians, only to come face-to-face with a T-72B3. Thinking quickly, he used Blackwhip to flip the tank over, but was unable to do so before it could fire its main gun at him. Fortunately, Sladjana was nearby and blocked the shell with her Statue Quirk.

"Thanks, Statuewoman!" said Deku. "You saved my life!"

Sladjana gave a thumbs up and winked at Deku. "You're welcome!"

While the students were engaged in combat with Russian ground and air units, the pros continued their engagement, although things would change as a certain pro became aware of the fighting that was going on behind him:

"Hawks, you, Cementoss, Vlad King and Ryukyu, follow me!" said Endeavor. "Everyone else, hold your ground!"

Despite the fact that the pros had yet to step in, the students were keeping the Russians at bay, and Kendo, Monoma, Yanagi and Tokage were causing their fair share of carnage. Still, they wondered how long they could keep this up:

"Where are the pros when you need them!?" Kendo clobbered a Russian pro with her Quirk.

"I'm not worried!" Monoma shot down some Russian soldiers with his M14.

"Of course, you're not worried!" said Tokage. "Others would prefer not to get shot!"

"I second that notion." Yanagi blew up a group of Russians with her Milkor MGL.

Despite a valiant effort by the members of Class 1-B to keep up the fight, it eventually came to a point where…

"You children are surrounded!" said one Russian soldier over a bullhorn. "Lower your weapons and come with us!"

"Monoma, I hope you have a plan to get us out of this one," said Kendo.

Monoma gave off a sheepish smile. "Relax! I'm sure things'll play out in our favor!"

Kendo gave a look of disbelief to Monoma. Just when all seemed lost, though, Uraraka and Tsu came diving off a building raining fire at the Russians, Tsu with her dual Uzis, Uraraka with dual MP5Ks. Naturally, the Russians panicked and attempted to waste the 1-A besties. However, Uraraka touched a T-72 and used her Quirk to make it float away, which resulted in it colliding with an Mi-28 "Havoc" attack helicopter. Similarly, Tsu grabbed a T-72 with her tongue and hurled it at an Mi-24 "Hind" attack helicopter. Re-moralized, Kendo, Monoma, Yanagi and Tokage resumed their fight, and a few minutes and several hundred – if not thousand – rounds later, the Russians were dead and the UA students still intact.

"Thanks, girlfriends!" Kendo gave a thumbs up. "We thought we had it!"

"You're welcome!" said Uraraka. "We're glad to help!"

"It's too bad that I was unable to upstage the Russians myself, though," said Monoma.

"Monoma, this isn't a video game or stage play," said Tsu. "You could really have been killed, ribbit."

Kendo gave Monoma another knowing glare.

After the tank incident, Deku valiantly charged at another group of Russian soldiers and armor, using Blackwhip to grab a T-72 and use it as a flail to destroy some nearby BMDs and BTR-80s, also one-handing his M16 and spraying Russian soldiers with lead. Once he was done with the T-72, Deku slammed it on its roof and destroyed it. Soon enough, Todoroki and Lazar converged with him, and they continued doing their best to evacuate civilians while killing Russians. At one point, a group of soldiers debarked from a BTR-80, and Todoroki sprayed the soldiers with her .30-cal while Lazar punctured the fuel tank with one of his eye beams, blowing the APC up. Another Russian pro who could turn his hands into sickles and launch them at foes met a nasty end at the hands of Todoroki.

"Shoko, find some high ground to set up at!" said Deku. "Eye Beam and I will clear the streets!"

"Right!" said Todoroki and Lazar.

Todoroki used her ice to surf up to the roof of an apartment building, while Deku and Lazar split up and took it to the streets. At one point, Deku came across a group of Russian soldiers harassing a mother and her little boy. Knowing that these bastards would stop at nothing, he raised his M16 and shouted at them:

"HEY! LEAVE THEM ALONE!"

The Russians took notice of Deku, and judging by their reaction, they were unwilling to obey his command:

"Brosay oruzhiye, zyelenyy urod!"

The Russians attempted to open fire on Deku, but even with his M16 set to semi-auto – which was more ideal for hostage situations anyways – he still got the better of them. Once the soldiers were down, Deku rushed over to the mother and her little boy.

"How are you two feeling? Have either of you been injured?"

The mother shook her head. "No, but we were really scared! Thank you for saving us!"

Deku smiled. "You're welcome!"

The mother and her child both gave Deku a hug, which he gladly returned. Even if hell was a-dropping all around them, he at least had the satisfaction of knowing that his heroism meant something. Nevertheless, the moment couldn't last forever:

"Listen, you two should hang on! I'll take you to the evacuation point!"

"Right!"

Deku grabbed on to the mother and boy as best as he could and used Blackwhip to take them to the evacuation point.

As Deku was evacuating the mother and child to the evacuation point, Zorana and Milovan – whose hero costume was a red bodysuit with black trim and two nozzles on his wrists – were tearing it up against the Russians. Zorana's Staff of Power was able to effectively block Russian attacks, while Milovan's emitting of a sulfuric, wastelike smell was really keeping the Russians down, as was his Colt Commando. However, they couldn't do it forever:

"Sister, there's too many of them! What do we do!?"

"Remain calm, dear brother! Someone will come to help us eventually!"

Milovan did his best to remain calm, though he found himself drinking lots of water to prevent from getting dehydrated. Doing so while reloading his Commando, however, was no small task.

"All heroes, this is Captain Odor! Quarterstaff and I are holding off the Russians, but we could really use some help here! We're about five kilometers northwest of the nearest evacuation point!"

"Captain Odor, this is Tsukuyomi. Vantablack and I are almost at your location."

Sure enough, Tokoyami was there within seconds.

"Dark Shadow, ATTACK!"

"Got it!"

Using Dark Shadow, Tokoyami not only blocked Russian bullets and shells, but really mowed down Russian soldiers and pros alike. Most of them beat a hasty retreat to avoid getting attacked, and those who didn't paid the price.

"Thank you!" said Milovan. "I thought Sister and I were done for!"

"You can thank your friend Amplifive as well," said Tokoyami. "Without his Quirk, Dark Shadow could never have driven away the Russians as effectively."

"You forget that I was helping as well." Kuroiro popped out of Dark Shadow.

Tokoyami crossed their arms. "Ordinarily, I frown upon others toying with Dark Shadow, but these are no ordinary circumstances, and for once, I'm grateful for your assistance."

"Thank you too, bud!"

Kuroiro offered Tokoyami a high-five, so Tokoyami smiled and high-fived him. Zorana and Milovan high-fived each other as fell.

Meanwhile, Deku continued to engage the Russians. At one point, he came across a large group of Russian soldiers, but when he raised his M16 at them, they panicked, dropped their weapons and ran away, much to his confusion, which also caused him to think back on what Tokoyami once said:

"I would much rather stand and fight no matter how hopeless things seemed."

Thinking back on these words, Deku got the feeling that the Russians – as numerous as they were – had been woefully unprepared mentally and emotionally for this invasion, perhaps being told by their superiors that they were merely going on exercises. Whatever the case, it appeared that the Russians' hope for a quick victory was evaporating. Even so, Deku let the retreating Russian soldiers live, feeling that shooting them in the back was a decidedly unheroic move. Instead, he called to Uraraka over his communicator:

"Uravity, this is Deku. How are the evacuation efforts going?"

"Not too bad. Not everybody's been evacuated yet, but we're getting there. How are things at your end?"

"Shoko, Eye Beam and I killed a bunch of Russians, but they just keep coming! I hope that Endeavor or somebody comes to help us out…"

"Did you call for me?"

Deku turned around to see Endeavor standing there.

"Endeavor!" Deku nearly jumped back.

Endeavor nodded. "Yes, it's me. Now, answer me: where did you students get guns?"

Deku smiled nervously and rubbed the back of his head. "Um…Internet?"

Endeavor shook his head. "Never mind. Just concentrate on evacuating the citizens. We'll take care of the Russians. Judging by the accounts on our side, they're retreating from this city and from Haboro, but there are still other cities under attack by them."

"Right! I'll spread the word!" Deku called Todoroki on his communicator: "Shoko, do you read me?"

"I hear you loud and clear. What's up?"

"Listen, Endeavor says that the Russians are retreating from Wakkanai and Haboro. Him and the other pros are gonna take them on. Let's just concentrate on evacuating the citizens, OK?"

"Understood. Shoko out."

Deku went to rendezvous with the rest of the students, while Endeavor and the rest of the pros took on the Russians. Things may have been playing in Japan's favor, but it was clear that the war was far from over.
