Monster Hearts Ch. 09: First Monstrous Weekend
Bloodgood watches as a couple of Jackal Servants enter her home carrying a large crate.
"I did not expect anything this soon," the headless woman comments as the Servants sets the crate down.
A mummy in a fine suit walks up to her. "This is just a few that I already had in my personal collection, Headmistress," he points his cane at the box. "Everything meets your criteria. These artifacts are connected with keys, hearts, darkness, and other worlds. All references are literal and metaphorical."
"Thank you, Mr. de Nile," the woman nod and passes over a check. "This should cover the expenses."
Ramses briefly examines the check. "This is more than plenty. Should even cover a shipment I have coming in from a museum in Shibooya," the Pharoah places the slip of paper into his coat pocket, only to remove a large envelope. "And as for the other matter, Headmistress," and passes it over to the woman. "Everything needed is right here."
"Again, I must thank you for this," Bloodgood takes a quick glance at the envelope's contents. "This should make everything easier."
"No thanks necessary, Bloodgood," the mummy bows. "Consider us even. Until next time." With that, the man left with his servants.
The headless woman sighs as she walks up to the crate and propped it open. "Looks like it's going to be a long weekend," Bloodgood reaches in to take out an old tablet with a picture of a heart etched onto it. "Let's see," just as she goes to attempt a translation the phone rings and Nightmare is immediately by her side with the phone. "Thank you Nightmare," the Headmistress accepts the call. "Bloodgood speaking… Heath Burns? I'm rather busy at the momen—" At the info Bloodgood receives, she drops the tablet, causing it to shatter. "He what!?" the woman shouts into the device. She slams the phone down. "Nightmare, ready the carriage!"
.oOo.
Sora sits in the interrogation room across from a police officer with a mustache. "Look, kid. You're not in trouble," the man laughs. "Like you'd be the first one to sneak over to the Monster side of town for a little prank. If you're that worried about it then I give you my word as Sheriff that I'll see to it that this never makes record," the Sheriff takes out a notepad and pen. "Just give me your parents name and number so we can call them."
"I already told you," the boy sighs. "It wasn't a prank. It was an accident. And I didn't just wonder across the other side. I actually live there."
"Okay," the officer slams the pen down and glares at the kid. "Enough with the jokes. Why on Earth would a human live with a bunch of mangey monsters?"
It's Sora's turn to glare. "They're not mangey. They're good people."
"Monsters aren't people. They never have been human and never will be."
"Because someone isn't human doesn't mean they don't have a Heart," the boy places a hand over his chest. "That's what truly matters. The Heart is what makes you, you."
The Sheriff laughs hearing this. "Okay, that was a good one. A heart doesn't make a person. Being human does and for all I care, those Monsters have no heart. They're all evil."
"I've met plenty of human's whose Hearts were filled with more Darkness than Light."
"Enough talk of this heart and light stuff," the Sheriff leans forward. "You're clearly a monster roadie. Since you won't tell me who your parents are or where you live, I can legally detain you."
"For what?"
"let's see," the man starts listing off. "Trespassing, destruction of public property, and crossing over to the Monster side of town."
"I thought you didn't care about that?"
"Oh, I don't. In fact," he sits back. "As far as I'm concerned, the Monsters deserve it. But if it means knocking some sense into ya. Fine by me."
Just then the door opens as another officer walks in carrying an envelope. "Uh, Sheriff."
"What is it, Deputy?"
The Deputy walks up to his boss whispers something while handing over the envelope.
"Seriously?" the Sheriff looks over the contents of the envelope and shakes his head in disbelief before handing it back to the deputy. "You're in luck, kid," he turns back to Sora. "Your aunt is here."
At this, Sora tilts his head. "Aunt?"
.oOo.
Bloodgood awaits at the front desk as one of the deputies went to fetch their boss. There are few other officers around. All wary of her presence. A couple even have a hand on their tasers.
The headless woman takes a deep breath. A lesser Monster would have removed their head to spook the Normies. But she must prove she's a better person than the image that humans have of her.
The door opens and Sora is escorted out by the Sheriff and one of his deputies. They stop in front of the woman.
"Bloodgood," the Sheriff glares.
"Good evening, Sheriff," the Headmistress nods as the deputy hesitantly returns the envelope.
"I'll be honest. I did not see the family resemblance," the Sheriff mocks. "I'm surprised his head is still screwed on."
The boy has been looking between the Sheriff and his guardian as this was going on. He is suddenly pushed forward. Luckily, Bloodgood was quick enough to catch him and keep Sora upright.
"Yes, well, it wasn't an ideal situation. But he is family."
That caught Sora off-guard. He then finds himself being forced to the exit.
"Come, Sora," Bloodgood tells him as they make their way out. The woman is then stopped by the Sheriff as he speaks.
"How are you two related again?"
"It's just as the file says." With that, the woman and boy leave the station.
The Sheriff rubs his chin in suspicion before turning to his deputy. "Keep an eye out for any reports on that boy. I get the feeling we're not being told everything."
.oOo.
Sora is led out of the police station where he finds a purple carriage connected to a certain demonic horse.
Bloodgood opens the carriage and turns to the boy. "Get in!" That cold glare sent shivers down Sora's spine, and he did as he was told. The headless woman looks to the horse. "Take use home, Nightmare," and the horse lets out a neigh as the woman enters the carriage herself.
The carriage takes off and most of the ride was quiet as the woman across from Sora continues to glare at the keybearer. It wasn't until they crossed over into the Monster side of town when Bloodgood spoke.
"You only had to do one thing," she says. "That was to stay out of trouble. And what did you do the first time I let you out on your own? You destroyed the Maul!"
"Actually, it was just the arcade."
"That doesn't matter!" she snaps, before rubbing her eyes. "One of the Keyblade Wielder's main priority is to keep a low profile so they can protect the World Order. In how many Worlds were you unable to do so?" Bloodgood then deadpans as she sees Sora start counting his fingers. "Never mind," she sighs before leaning back in her seat. The woman then straightens up as Sora asks a question.
"So, do I call you Aunt Bloodgood now?" the normie then tilts his head. "What's that about anyway?"
"Bloodgood is just fine. And it was the best option to keep you on the Monster side of town as it is not as uncommon as most would think that a Normie and Monster would be related through marriage," the headmistress explains. "I did not have many relatives. But I once had a cousin who married a human and she already had a son. None of them…" she looks down. "…are among us. So, I managed to acquire some paperwork that states that you were their son."
Seeing the sadness in her eyes, Sora finds himself asking, "What happened?"
With a heavy sigh, "With the prejudice between monsters and humans, there tends to be consequences on both sides." On that somber note, the remainder of the ride was quiet until they reached Bloodgood Manor.
Once both leave the carriage and enter the front doors, Bloodgood speaks up. "Your friends explained that you defeated some enemies. On that account, I managed to talk to the head of the Maul, and you're not banned from the entire place. The arcade is another matter. Despite there being no evidence of you actually doing any property damage, they still do not wish to see you there again." The boy was about to cheer as he was no longer in trouble, until the woman speaks again. "But that does not mean you're off the hook!" she glares. "I'm adding another month to you cleaning the stable and any allowance I was going to give you has been cut severely."
"Aw, man!" Sora slumps.
"And for the remainder of the weekend, you are not to leave this house. In fact, you're grounded until next weekend."
"Seriously?"
"You want to make it until the weekend after?"
"No."
"Good," Bloodgood nods. "Now, I do believe you have some homework. Go and get it done."
Sora slowly climbs the steps up to his room.
Bloodgood rubs her temples. "I think I need a drink." At that, her trusted stead is next to her carrying a tray with a bottle of scotch and a glass. Looking up, the woman smiles. "Thank you, Nightmare. But that will have to wait until later," she turns to the crate. "I still have a lot of work to do." With that being said, the Headmistress walks back over to where she left the crate.

NOTE: Now, I have had many people asking if this was a harem. I had been asked so many times that I had actually considered making this a harem story. But honestly, Monster Hearts was never intended to be a harem story and I don't want to alter it into being one. Sorry for those who were looking forward to it becoming one.
NOTE 2: I think any upcoming chapters are going to be one offs for a bit before heading to Gloom Beach and eventually the Mashionals. But there may not be as much action going on until Gloom Beach. Might throw in a Heartless encounter here and there. Just no bosses at the moment.
NOTE 3: I should probably name the Union Forms. I'm thinking the form with Frankie. Spark Striker Form. And Manny's. Grand Slammer Form.
