Ch.65: Project Civics

That Monday, I awoke in a jovial mood. Jumping out of bed, I made my way into the kitchen, where Maud was brewing a pot of Joe. She smiled at me. I had been on cloud nine over the previous few days, and the first two guesses did not count on why.

"Got anything planned for after school?" she asked. I shook my head. She nodded and stepped aside so I could get myself a coffee cup. Igneous shuffled into the kitchen then, greeting us with a hello.

"Just wondering, David" he said gently. "You and Aria didn't do anything bad Thursday, right?"

I nodded in the affirmative. "No. Just went to bed and did a little cuddling."

"Aww, that's so sweet" Marble smiled, coming in. She was dressed in all Yellow and Orange, as it was Spirit Week at her school. Igneous grinned and headed out. I chuckled, as I had failed to notice the thermos in his hand.

"First comes love, then come marriage" Pinkie sang, skipping into the room, and looking right at me. I grinned evilly.

"Is that for you and Pip?"

She would blush, deciding to get herself a protein bar and a banana. I decided to follow her lead. Pouring my joe not long after, I sat at the kitchen table and munched contently.

Cloudy entered the room then, dressed for work. She said nothing, a sleepy gaze on her face still. But she did smile as Maud handed her a thermos. Maud left with her mother then, along with Marble. Marble had a few things to do in town, the big one being a payment on her bike.

As me and Pinkie left ourselves ten minutes later, I could only smile in victory.

This was home.

In this new semester, Civics had become my 4th period, right after lunch. Art was first, followed by Women's Studies, Drama, and then Gym as last period. As I stepped into class that day, I smiled and waved at Vinyl Scratch, a girl that was friends with Rarity. She, along with a member of the band named Octavia Melody, often sat together at lunch. Vinyl is a special lady, as she is mute. She can hear and see normally, but she cannot speak like we can, my children.

Vinyl waved back and removed her headphones, indicating she was ready to begin class. I also shared the course with Sunset, and a mutual acquaintance named Black Widow.

Experienced Leader smiled as he began the course.

"This semester began with me telling you all that a project would come at some point. That time has come. Over these next two weeks, each of you will do a PowerPoint on some political issue or community improvement idea you are passionate about. Nothing is off limits. The minimum amount of slides is ten, with extra credit given to those that do fifteen or more."

"Today, I will pair you each into two pairs, so an exchange of ideas can take place."

With that, he began pairing us. He ended up pairing me and Sunset, which I found amusing. Sunset walked over to my desk and pulled up a chair. I had a piece of paper and a pen out for us each.

"Got any ideas on the outset?" I asked Sunset. She looked thoughtful.

"Just one. Disability rights."

My eyes widened. "That is a great one. Got a passion for wanting to do it?"

Sunset beamed. "Maybe?"

As the class went on, I was not finding anything to my tatste. Or I would find that another student had picked an idea I would think about. Then, I figured it out.

As Experienced Leader got our topics at the end of class, mine was clear.

Medical Marijuana for kids.
