If someone were to ask Della Duck what her primal fear was ever since she was born, not many would be able to guess her parents.

Then again, it was easy for people to ignore the notion that both Della and Donald had parents, ones that happened to still be alive and well. Old for sure, but not the kind of individuals that the woman was interested in approaching. It wouldn't be hyperbole if she mentioned that the last time she talked with her mother Hortense, things had gone extraordinarily bad on her side.

So, when Uncle Scrooge told her that they wanted to talk with her and John... Well, that awakened a fear in her that she thought she had gotten over. Here she was, working to make her life great... and yet the past was heading back to pull her back into deep anxiety issues.

That's not to say she originally hated her parents, but there was a reason why she preferred Scrooge over them- it was less loud to be there. Donald used to isolate himself or go outside to play with his friends, but Della had been having trouble finding girls that shared her preferences. That is why she tended to muffle the noise careening from either the living room or the kitchen.

Della understood that it would be a poor decision calling her parents abusive- that wasn't the case here. The main issue was that both were 'strong-headed' people. They liked to start 'fights' that really shouldn't happen to begin with. It seemed clear they were both stuck in their own stubbornness, but now it was getting to the point of this being... weird.

And my previous love interest was proof of how warped my perception of love once was.

Which is where she ended up having clashes with her family. Della and Donald had made arrangements for the triplets to live at his house until she got herself a proper place where to live near both Scrooge and him. However, when the topic came up during one of the last times she had spoken with her parents, they didn't take it kindly that they were getting excluded.

It was- yes, This may sound odd, but Della didn't feel that place was suited for little kids.

At this point, Della was in her most overprotective mood despite her reckless behavior towards leaving for the moon, so she found herself agreeing to her old self in that regard. The place was too noisy, her parents were too set in their mindsets to give a bad example with how they behaved with each other.

Sure, it was their way to share love, but she thought of Huey and how that could be an issue for him. The fact her baby boy was still self-conscious of being very prone to irritation made it clear that it wouldn't be an easy task to introduce the kids to this side of the family.

This still upset them, angering them enough to kick her out of the house fast for being so 'disrespectful'. They eventually reached out to apologize, but Della at that point was... gone. That topic had died before the more immediate issues of surviving on the moon.

Now Della was 'better' at this. Unfortunately, it was less of an improvement and more of an understanding of something many already knew about normal love- how fighting wasn't usually the best answer to do first, and that 'talking with your partner' was usually the better option.

So, she took a moment to talk with John and she felt confident that this would work. If dialogue would turn messy, they would leave. There was no point in rekindling a feud if this was their attempt of reconciliation. If this was to fall apart, then it was best to let that circumstance die rather than let it go for the worst.

The old manor-like house was in sight. As John parked the car, Della quickly exited the vehicle, and gave a lengthy look on the property. It had definitely aged, but it had been tended for from the looks of it. Her mother loved this place, and her father found the idea of patching up the place frequently to be a good hobby.

She could see new tools replacing old ones, showing how Quackmore had not ditched the hassle despite his age.

The real 'battle' started as John rang the doorbell. They didn't need to wait for long as the door was soon opened by-

"Della?" Hortense Duck exclaimed in surprise and delight, instantly pulling her daughter into a back-breaking hug.

Ah yes, those were one of those little things Della hadn't missed about her mother. That insane strength of hers in such a fragile body felt so absurd but... considering what she had experienced in her thirty-something years-old life, it now seemed fair to say that this wasn't the craziest thing she encountered.

"M-Mom. I thought you would be furious?"

"Well, I'm happy right now that my Dumbella is finally back," The old redhead beamed, turning to look at John and... smiling even more. "John, right? Scroogie told me that you were a tall fellow, but-"

"Taller than expected?"

"Less menacing actually," The woman assured and then turned around to. "Quackmore, they are here!"

Loud, but at least they appeared to have learned restraint to some extent.

Hortense appeared sheepish as she turned back to them. "He's gotten nervous while we were waiting, so he made himself busy fixing a few things around the house."

Where Della was expecting her father to walk slowly from the kitchen, she saw how the 'frail old man' that was Quackmore suddenly hurling from his previous spot on the ceiling by the living room, and falling on the basement through the floor. The sight was... concerning. Donald could easily survive it, Scrooge too- but Quackmore didn't have the same physical preparation for that sort of stuff.

As they approached the duck-shaped hole, his response brought some relief.

"I'm fine. Landed on the old mattress."

After a few minutes, they were all sitting by the living room and... taking a moment to fully grasp the situation. Della was particularly invested in the relative calm within the house.

"So, you're not... angry at me?"

Hortense sighed loudly. "We definitely were, at least for some time. I wouldn't say we have completely forgiven you, but considering what we learned from Scrooge... we figured it's best to not press that topic too soon."

"We've had a lot of time to think, and we realized through a few talks with Donald that we actually had a severe case of anger issues," Quackmore remarked, tightening his smile. "The fact we have gotten older means we can't exactly be shouting around and expect our hearing to keep up. Same applies for the blood pressure."

"Oh."

"I suppose that's a surprise, Della," Hortense admitted mirthfully. "But we really worked hard to be ready for the rest of the family as we knew the kids needed to not hear these old idiots whine and shout like we used to."

"Plus, you clearly have... calmed down yourself," Her father added, hinting some curiosity on the topic.

"That's... the medicine for the leg. It works as a sedative so I can get accustomed back to walking with this sturdy thing," Della replied with a tiny smile as she patted her shiny limb. "But I guess there's the thing that the kids are- they need me to be attentive."

"And you have been quite mature in those occasions."

"Speaking of which, John," Quackmore commented calmly. "How about you tell us about yourself? After all, we need to know a bit more on who has been dating our Dumbella. Scrooge says you are a good candidate, but I believe that choice is ours to make."

For the first time in many many years, Della felt like she was de-aged back when she was just a teen. It would have been a curious experience if this happened back then. So, while John moved around the questions with cautious responses and 'battled' a bit with her father much to her mother's amusement and chagrin combined, Della pondered on how things would be if this had happened earlier.

I bet John would be a shy kid. And I, the bold one! Heh, I can see that!
