It was the next day and Hunter was currently driving Dave home from the hospital.
"How much have the younger girls been told?" Dave asked.
"Rosie, Hayley, and Callie know most, they know who this was all connected to, Callie had been communicating with one of her cousins for a while, I was unaware, the younger four know nothing more than bad guys took you," Hunter told him.
"Okay," Dave said.
Hunter pulled in at home and they both went inside.
Dave took a breath and stepped inside his house, it was pretty quiet and looked to be in order.
Hunter smiled and shook his head.
"What?" Dave asked
"When I left this morning, the place was in shambles," Hunter said
Dave chuckled.
"We're home," Hunter called out.
Everyone came quickly and hugged Dad. Sascha smelt Dave and came running and jumped at his feet excited to see him.
Dave hugged each of his girls tight before petting Sascha all over. "Missed you too boy."
"Glad you are home," Rosie said.
"Glad I'm home too," Dave said.
"All right, Dad might be home but he still needs to take it easy," Hunter said.
Everyone backed off and Hunter looked at Dave.
"I'm going to shower and then rest," Dave said
"Okay, do you need help?" Hunter asked.
"No, I'll be okay," Dave said as he went upstairs slowly.
Hunter looked at Rosie, "Were you the one who lead the clean up of this place?"
Rosie smiled and shrugged.
Hunter hugged her tight. "Thank you."
Rosie hugged him. "Of course Papa. I didn't want him coming home to the mess."
"Your homework all done?" Hunter asked
"Yes," Rosie said. "The work I handed in after spring break has been graded and my grades updated, I'm back up to where I should be."
"Good," Hunter said.
"And I have already planned dinner, Dad's favorites," Rosie said
Hunter smiled, "Okay, sounds perfect."
Rosie went off to go find something to do and Hunter went to check on Dave to make sure he really didn't need any help.
Once he was in bed Dave looked at his husband, "They all seem to have grown up in the last few months."
Hunter nodded, "they have."
"I'm so sorry I put you all through this," Dave said.
"Dave, it's over, don't worry about the past, we are all just happy to have you home, safe," Hunter said. "Now rest."
Dave smiled and nodded and turned over to go to sleep.
Hunter went downstairs and went into the kitchen where Hayley was baking with her younger sisters.
"Rosie didn't want to help?" Hunter asked.
"She is currently staring at the stack of envelopes on her desk," Callie said.
Hunter let out a breath and went back upstairs and knocked on Rosie's door.
"Yes?" Rosie said.
Hunter went in and saw the stack on her desk and her sitting on her window seat.
"He is home, you can open them now," he said.
"I will, tonight, after dinner, if he is up to being awake for it, I want him there, and you too of course," Rosie said.
Hunter nodded, "Okay. Are you okay?"
"I'm nervous, what if I didn't get in anywhere?" Rosie asked
Hunter went and sat across from her, "Rosie, I can't promise you got in anywhere but I know regardless you have a bright future, and I'm pretty confident that you got in somewhere," Hunter said.
Rosie nodded.
Hunter opened his arms and Rosie moved into his arms where he hugged her tight. "I'm proud of you Rosie, you have worked so hard to get to where you are, and wherever you end up going is going to be amazing."
Rosie smiled, "Thanks, Papa."
A few hours later Rosie and Hunter were in the kitchen cooking dinner and Dave came downstairs.
"Hi Dad," Rosie said.
"How are you feeling?" Hunter asked
"I'm okay," Dave said.
"How are your fingers?" Rosie asked
"Sore, but they will get better," Dave said.
Rosie nodded.
Dave went over to see what they were making and smiled, "My favorite."
"Thought you deserved it," Rosie said.
Dave kissed her head, "I miss you bambina."
"Miss you too Dad," Rosie said.
"Have you opened your university letters yet?" Dave asked
"No, tonight, after dinner," Rosie said
"Okay," Dave said.
Rosie held up a spoon of the food, "Taste."
Dave tasted it and closed his eyes having missed the taste of good food.
"I don't know if it's because I haven't had good food in months or because you have gotten better but that tastes just as good as when I make it," Dave said.
Rosie smiled "Probably the first."
"I don't know, you have made giant steps in your cooking the last couple of months," Hunter said.
Rosie shrugged.
Dave squeezed Rosie's shoulders. "Papa told me you stepped up in a big way, I'm so proud of you Rosie."
Rosie smiled a little, "I knew you were coming home and I didn't want you to be disappointed in me."
Dave turned her around so she was facing him.
Rosie looked up at him.
"I know these months have been very hard on you, all of you, I would never expect you to do more than what is already expected of you," Dave said.
Rosie nodded.
"So, I'm not disappointed, I couldn't be," Dave said.
Rosie smiled and hugged him tight.
Dave wrapped her in a tight hug. "I'm right here, and never will I disappear like that again."
"You better not, because next time I'll come find you myself," Rosie said.
Dave smiled, "oh really?"
"Yes, I've already lost so much, I'm not losing anyone else," Rosie said holding him.
"I'm right here Rosie, you didn't lose me, and it's going to take a whole lot more than what I went through to take me away," he said softly to her.
Rosie let out a few tears.
"Hey bambina I'm home, I'm okay," Dave said.
Rosie took a breath, "I know."
"Go, get your sisters, it's ready," Hunter said.
Rosie nodded and went.
"She has been holding her feelings in for a long time," Hunter said.
"You never mentioned that," Dave said.
"Well, there are a lot of things that are going to come up as time goes on," Hunter said.
Dave could sense his husband was upset. He went over and put a hand on his. "I'm sorry, your right. You kept this family going and a lot probably has happened, I'll know things as they come up."
Hunter took a breath and squeezed Dave's hand gently.
"Thank you, Hunter, for holding this family together," Dave said.
"You'd have done the same," Hunter said
"Yes, but you wouldn't have done what I did," Dave said.
"No, because I'd be dead long before you," Hunter said.
"I don't know, I think you are stronger than you give yourself credit for," Dave said.
Hunter shrugged.
The girls came into the kitchen and Dave kissed Hunter before he went to help him.
"No, you sit," Hunter said.
Dave smiled and did as instructed.
Rosie helped Hunter get the food on the table and they all ate.
