Chapter 4
The next day, Izuku found himself standing on a platform in the middle of Nerima. Where the hell had this thing come from? Looking around, it seemed like it was a ring of some kind, meant for a fight. Well, duh, it was for a fight, but it was surrounded by stands. Stands that keep in mind, had just shown up out of the blue, where currently being filled. All of this for a fight? Then again, hero work was about the same, just a grander field of battle. Standing in one of the corners, Izuku watched as person after person loaded into a stand. He could see the girl from yesterday taking money from a couple of the guests who arrived before directing them to a seat. So this was a sold out fight then? Yikes. So much grandeur.
He would have to make sure he put on a good show, if nothing else. Who knows, this could be fun. He promised himself he wouldn't use FaJin this time. He was going to fight one on one. Didn't mean he wasn't going to use the rest of the Quirks he had available to him. Best to keep in mind what he had available to him.
"Remember, this is the opportunity to see what he can really do." said the fourth user, Hikage Shinomori whispered into his ear, "this would be the perfect opportunity to see if he is really the one to send you home."
Nodding to himself, Izuku looked about. Ranma hasn't arrived yet. He was supposed to be here, though, Izuku thought, he might still be getting ready. Standing there, he got a glimpse of the crowd. There was the Tendo house hold, sitting near the front of the stands, with a rather large black and white panda bear sitting next to them. Izuku almost fell over himself upon seeing it. A panda bear!? And no one was blinking their eyes at it? 'That must be one of the crazy things that happen here,' Izuku thought. Not far from them was a stand for okonomiyaki with a woman dressed in a blue short sleeve blouse cooking. It didn't smell half bad either. He might have to try some after today.
There were a couple of other people that stood out too. One was a man garbed in white with a pair of haze spectacles, next to him was a rather old looking woman, sitting upon a stick that was longer than herself. Next to the woman was a girl, dressed in pink Chinese clothing. Interesting ensemble of people, Izuku had to admit.
After a couple of minutes of waiting he could hear someone approaching the ring. Looking in that general direction, he could see Ranma approaching. He looked determined, the fire of competition set a blaze. When Ranma arrived, he entered the ring, little to no sound passed beyond his lips.
"Are you ready for this?" Izuku asked. Ranma nodded, but other than that he didn't say anything.
After a couple of seconds, Nibiki stepped closer to the ring to announce the rules. "Alright, Ladies and Gentlemen! We have a historic moment to make today! In the red corner is our very own, Ranma Saotome!" Cheers and claps rang throughout. Izuku watched most of the audience's reactions over anyone else's. "And in the blue corner, is the demon of Japan! Izuku Midoriya!" Most people didn't clap, though some did out of respect. Others were mumbling to themselves, wondering how true those words were. Izuku himself rolled his eyes. 'Demon of Japan'. He was just trying to be a hero. If not in his own world than in this one. "Alright you two, the rules are simple. The first person to get knocked out or fall out of the ring loses, right?"
Ranma and Izuku nodded. They had set this in motion when they deliberated the rules the night before. "Then let the match BEGIN!" The two bowed slightly before each got into a stance, izuku holding his hands up in a standard boxer's form while Ranma dipped into one of his lower stances. The two didn't wait very long to start. Ranma sped forward, preparing to attack. Izuku pulled his fist back and threw out a single punch in ranma's direction. He hadn't even channeled One for All yet and Ranma was starting the fight.
Ranma ducked, letting Izuku's fist sail over his head before he launched a barrage of attacks, striking Izuku's middle with a flurry of punches. Each punch found its home, digging deeper and deeper into Izuku's stomach. There was just one problem, Izuku was taking each hit allowing Ranma to think he had the upper hand. Each shot made him flinch, there was no doubt, but it gave him plenty of time. Channeling One for all throughout his body he thought to himself, 'One for All, Full Cowling, 20 percent!'
At first, each punch hit its mark, Ranma felt Izuku's body give to each punch, pushing him back. Yet, one punch was stopped, his middle became hard as stone. The instant Ranma felt the sting coming from his hand he jumped back. Apparently that training had paid off because Izuku had thrown a well orchestrated punch that would have connected with his face had he not moved. When Izuku threw the punch he stepped forward a ways before he could bend his knees, deepening a defensive stance. Ranma gritted his teeth. That confirmed what Cologne had told him. He had to charge up his energy to fight. Ranma was impressed, he would admit. Izuku was able to charge his attack even though he was taking about twenty hits to the stomach per second.
Swinging himself around, Ranma charged again. Izuku closed his fist for a second before preparing his fingers into a flicking motion. "Delaware Smash, Air Force!" he shouted, flicking his fingers in Ranma's direction.
Ranma didn't even register what happened until Izuku had flicked his finger. The air became deafening, his body being blown back by the air itself. Ranma's eyes widened again, but kept his ground, sliding back into the ropes of the ring. They were the only thing keeping him from flying out of the ring from the air blast. When it stopped, Ranma felt himself slump a little, finally being able to breathe. Best to watch his fingers now too.
Izuku clicked his tongue. Shouldn't have done that without his gloves. Less controlled, it would seem. Sighing, Izuku raised his fists again, giving Ranma time to Stagger back up. Once Ranma was standing again, he glared at Izuku. Fine, time to go for broke. Pushing on the ropes, Ranma allowed them to spring him forward. Izuku went to block the attack, one arm covering his face, the other his body, however Ranma quickly passed Izuku, using the ropes once more before launching himself into Izuku, feet first. Izuku felt Ranma's feet hit his back before he knew what was happening. Quickly, izuku hit the canvas mat of the ring before rolling to the side. No more playing defense. Izuku allowed full cowling to be at 25% before he rushed Ranma.
Throwing his punch, Ranma was able to block it by raising his arm up. Thinking quickly, Ranma countered by throwing a punch into Izuku's chin. Izuku could feel his teeth click together before he stepped back. Ranma was definitely good. There was no doubt. Thinking quickly, Izuku raised his hand up, like he was going to flick his finger again. Ranma on instinct dived forward trying to grab his hand before he could. With this distraction, Izuku was able to land a punch using his free hand, hitting Ranma on the side of the face. "Smash!" he shouted. He couldn't help it. He had been doing it for almost a year now. It's what heroes do, isn't it?
Ranma reeled from the blow to his head. He flew to the side, his body bouncing off the canvas. It didn't take very long for him to stand though. He had received plenty of blows to the head from Akane that they didn't hurt nearly as much as they used to. Abuse turned training. Had to love it. Staring into Izuku's face, Ranma took a deep breath. Trading blows before they could truly decide how to end the fight. Ranma couldn't help but feel like he was being toyed with, but for now, he had to keep his head in the fight.
Charging again to keep Izuku from charging again, Ranma ran forward before sliding across the canvas. Izuku had thrown another punch to try and stop him, but when he swung downwards, Ranma planted his feet into Izuku's stomach and forced him into the air. With a shout, Izuku was forced into the air sailing past the ropes. Everyone gasped as Izuku came closer to the ground.
"BLACKWHIP!" Izuku shouted, sending out a strand of black energy out of his hand, shooting through the ropes and into the ring past Ranma. Quickly Izuku propelled himself back into the ring as he threw another solid punch into the Saotome heir, this time hitting him in the chest. Ranma gasped as the air was driven from his lungs as he hit the canvas mat.
Most of the Audience were astounded by the black tendril that had just saved Izuku from losing, yet most weren't worried. Why? Well, considering all that's happened in Nerima, this wouldn't be the most outlandish thing to happen.
In the stands, Soun was sitting next to the transformed Genma Saotome. "The boy is doing well." Soun said, his arms crossed.
Genma nodded his head, writing upon his sign, "the boy should have this in the bag." Soun nodded in agreement. They had faith, if nothing else because they knew Ranma well enough to know that this wasn't over. Not by a long shot.
"Poor Ranma." Kasumi whispered, her hands clenched in her lap. Akane agreed with her older sister. Ranma was getting a beating. Then again, Izuku was taking just as much as one. The two had been trading blows, back and forth. Each looking like they hurt more than the last. Ramping up in pain for every attack thrown.
With the Amazons, Cologne was watching the fight very closely. "Great grandmother." Shampoo said in Chinese, "do you think my love will win?"
Cologne didn't reply, her eyes never leaving the ring. It was odd, to say the least. Cologne had seen this boy produce wins rather quickly, going at speeds faster than the eye could track. Yet, Ranma was keeping him from doing so, keeping him from charging up into that threshold of power. She smiled, the age old question. Skill or power. Ranma was the skill, talented and defined. Izuku was the power, pure and raw. "I don't know, child." she replied.
Shampoo looked back in worry. She herself believed that Ranma would win. She knew he would. Yet there was something keeping her from voicing it. The energy that was flowing from Ranma's opponent. Whatever it was, it upset her to no end. Like hairs on the back of the neck. It seemed she wasn't the only one who felt it, as Moose was scratching the back of his neck in seconds.
"There is something about that guy I don't like. As much as I would like to see Saotome lose…" Moose started to say. Whatever he was going to say became lost as Ranma had finally stood up again.
Standing tall, Ranma was watching Izuku, who looked ready to continue. "You're holding back." Ranma said. "Why?"
Izuku looked Ranma up and down for a second. Holding back? Yes and no. Ranma was keeping up with 25% of one for All. that wasn't something to sneeze at. Not only that, if Izuku had planned to use Fajin in this fight, he would not have had the chance with how much pressure Ranma had kept upon him the whole fight. Shaking the sweat from his head, he said, "I'm not holding back as much as you think I am. Your keeping up with me, almost had me thrown from the ring. In turn, I haven't forced you out at all." Izuku rubbed his hands together, getting some of the dull ache out of them. "If you want me to up the ante, then i'll go further.'' Izuku opened himself up, his legs spread wide while his hands were out to the side. He allowed full cowling to go up to 30 percent. This was his max at the moment. He could use Fajin with 45 percent, but that was with one attack. 30 percent was his limit to keep active.
Ranma could see the change immediately. The gleam in his eye was back, bright green shining back at him. Small trails of blue electricity sparking from his body. This was it. Make or break. Ranma placed himself once more into an offensive stance, ready to strike. Izuku charged forward, his feet pounding away on the canvas until he flipped himself over, slamming his foot down upon Ranma. Ranma for his part was able to spot Izuku moving and was able to raise his arms up, catching Izuku's leg. Quickly, Ranma stepped back before he tried to deliver a kick of his own. It found its mark, hitting izuku in the side of the chest.
Izuku grabbed Ranma's leg, pushing him out before trying to deliver an axe kick to his head. Ranma moved to the side, mer inches from the kick. Izuku had gotten faster. Stronger. That just meant that Ranma had to push it. Quickly Ranma delivered another series of punches to Izuku's chest, this time aiming for a couple of spots to hit, striking each spot three to four times before Izuku retaliated with a kick to the side. What happened? His entire fighting style had completely changed!
Izuku forced himself forward, planting his foot onto one of Ranma's legs before flipping himself backwards, kicking Ranma in the chin on the way up. Ranma's head flew back for only a second before he threw another series of punches, this time hitting Izuku in the face multiple times. Izuku jumped away, his feet hitting the edge of the canvas. Ranma charged forward, but Izuku spun in place before landing a solid kick upon Ranma, forcing him down. Ranma reached up, grabbed Izuku's leg and dragged him down with him. Izuku hit the canvas with a loud thud before rolling away from Ranma. Ranma stood up, his breath coming out in bits and pieces. Izuku was also breathing rather hard, his hand holding his cheek. This fight was coming to a close. One of them would be defeated. One would be the victor. Both, at the same time, charged the other. One final attack. One last punch.
Ranma threw his body into the last attack, his entire body rotating into the swing. Izuku had made his body dance slightly before he was launching a kick to the side of Ranma's head. No one knew which hit first. No one knew how the end result happened. What everyone does remember was the canvas flying into the air, shredded to pieces, with Ranma wrapped in the ropes, unconscious, and Izuku Midoriya on the solid concrete, breathing harder than he had since arriving here. He was on his back, staring into the sky. He hadn't intended to win this fight. But he didn't lose on purpose. Ranma Earned the victory. Izuku smiled before he started to laugh.
He laughed so hard he could feel tears pooling in his eyes. Ranma was the key to getting him home. There was no question. He was stronger than anyone Izuku had run into upon his arrival. Finally, a silver lining in all of this. After some time, Izuku let his eyes begin to shut, if nothing else than to relax. Izuku knew Ranma wouldn't consider this a win and would want a rematch. He would need to be ready. After a couple of minutes, Izuku stood up from the ground and untangled his opponent. With a deep intake of breath, Izuku launched himself into the air, ignoring the shouts coming from the crowd. Ranma needed to get some rest and Izuku was going to make sure he got it.
A/N: Well guys! Thats the big fight between Ranma and Izuku! Hop you guys liked it! Now, i have some more questions and answers to do right quick!
From chapter 2 because i didn't get to you guys last time, sorry!
AnimeF13579: seems nice so far, but should take note to try and keep in mind feats Ranma has pulled off when you try saying skill and martial arts limitations. Air pressure attacks that can crack and destroy concrete are common in Ranma ½ and ranma can take the hit that caused the air pressure. Moving fast enough to leave an after image also has occurred. Catching shrapnel launched at him by an explosion would require speed, hand eye coordination, and high reaction time. And many of these fears occurred rather early on in the series with him getting stronger as it went on.
Kain: And you're right! I would say that's part of why I'm having Ranma on the back foot for the start. As I have shown in this chapter (I hope) Ranma is figuring out how Izuku works. Once Ranma gets a handle on how to deal with Izuku, he could get better than him. The thing is, Izuku is a variable that Ranma's never seen. Izuku moved fast enough to not leave an after image (something that in the my hero universe hasn't happened). To put it simply, Izuku's powers are inhuman in comparison, but that doesn't mean Ranma and the gang won't be able to match him when the time comes. Sorry it took so long to reply back!
SpireSensei: Hmm, this will be something interesting to read when it updates again, this will actually be interesting because when ranma deals with people who are stronger than him and repeatedly beat him he doesn't take it very well, and he is willing to stoop a fair bit low to get a win, admittedly i think it will be fun.
I think the most interesting part of this will be the dichotomy between izuku and the other martial artists, while izuku isn't all that high up there when it comes to technical skill he has plenty of raw strength to back it up, and over is a very flexible fighter, so when dealing with people who fight dirty, i think izuku response to those kind of people or fights will be interesting.
Kain: first off, I'm so glad I'm getting the core idea behind the story out proper. I want this story to be about raw strength vs skill. To tell a story of releasing when you need to work on one before the other can be truly better. Does that mean Izuku is going to be a martial artist at the end of the story? I don't know yet.
That Dichotomy is going to be interesting to explore for sure, right now i'm trying to establish character before dipping my toes into that just yet, though i have dabbled in the latter chapters. Thanks for the review!
NOW ON TO THE CHAPTER 3 REVIEWS!
Jayden0423T: cool chapter, excited to see where this goes, i wonder if ranma will push deku to use his other Quirks.
Kain: Yep. in this chapter alone, he ended up using his blackwhip to keep himself from flying out of the ring. He also broke out his shoot style, something I figured Izuku would do when upping the percentage of One For All.
Djinn: interesting Fanfiction
Kain: Hey, thanks! I appreciate any kind of review. Though, I'm noticing a lot of reviews saying its 'interesting'. That kind of got me nervous. Got to meet that expectation!
Now i got a review for chapter 1 and i would like to address it,
Naosj: i suppose we are in an era where more Ranma ½ needs more of and exposition dump than MHA.
Kain: ya, this was something i thought might come up. Part of that is my writing style. I'll whole hartley admit that, though part of it is the fact that Ranma 1 / 2 is not as well known anymore. It was the founding father of the harem Genre and I wish more people talked about it. That's partially why I wanted to write this story, it's prime for a story like this. Old vs new. That kind of thing. Though, like I said, part of that is just my writing style. I write under the assumption that no one knows what I'm talking about and I need to explain it. I like going into detail, even small details like what a person is wearing. Sometimes I forget to add those details and then paragraphs become small, with a couple of sentences instead of a small paragraph.
All that being said, thanks for the review and giving me a jumping off point to talk about my writing style!
Now then, that all being said, it's been 4 weeks now and I'm not slowing down! I'm hoping ya'll like it. See ya'll next Saturday!
