The life of Sesshomaru and Rykotsu (a.k.a. Rin)

Chapter 4
Rin POV

"First of all let us appreciate the young Ryokotsu for bringing pace to the Eastern Lands. We all are aware that dispute had erupted in the land almost a centaury ago due to the death of the Eastern Lord," announced Taisho-sama.

Lord Kumo turned to look at me and said, "Ryokotsu, we greatly appreciate your works for our lands. Then again you family tradition of names ending in "Kotsu", meaning victory, is true reflection and deserving name for young men like you."

My father interrupted their praises by saying, "But then again we are not present at this meeting to shower him with praises, but to discuss a new arising problem we may face in the future." A new problem? "Sesshomaru, please proceed."

The dog demon was caught almost off-guard, as he had been staring at me for the past 10 minutes. He cleared his throat and stated with a deep, masculine, monotone voice: "Recently, the traders in West have come across strange looking tents and bases, just a while away from the capital. According to them the flags have not been recognised to be one of the Royal Paladins, yet their vast bases show almost equal power. The General and some men attempted to find out the roots of this foreigners, but no information was collected from the neighbouring villages, apart from the fact that several men have gone missing."

"From what we gathered we were able to sneak a flag away without being caught and it held this crest," declared Taisho-sama, as he held the flag high.

I have seen that somewhere before. The crest was shaped like a hand-fan, with intricate designs in gold. The fan had 10 endings with different symbols at each end. Each of the symbols looks so familiar. Then it hit me.

"My Lord, I have come across that flag before on my way to the Eastern Lands. I had also had some suspicion when I had come across it, but I chose to ignore it. They had took part in battle, so I believed it was the army of one of the sons. However, on my journey back one of their men, was beaten up. His armour and weapons were torn from him and he was left to lay there in the village of Akiko. I realised it was one of their men when I saw his arms, which boar the tattoos of the kamons around the flag," I explained.

"If that is true. I believe that these bandits were attempting to conquer the Eastern Land," added Taisho-sama.

"Conquer the Eastern Land?!"exclaimed Lord Kumo, "What use would they have in conquering the Eastern Land?"

That is true. What use would they have in conquering the Eastern Land? The Eastern Lands were nothing but a wreck and chaos after the war. There are no resources for these men to take. The only other reason would be power. There isn't any use of an army when they have such a big army themselves, unless...

"They are attempting to overthrow the Royal Paladins," stated Sesshomaru.

"THIS IS A THREAT TO ALL OF AKUMAHITOTOSHI!"

After the meeting...

Everything seems to be so confusing at the moment. However, the Lords concluded that there wouldn't be severe issues since the bandits may need time to form a good enough plot, considering they didn't win the war in the East. In the mean time, us young masters are to gather more information about these foreigners. Ouch! I walked into something hard.

I backed away and looked up, only to make eye contact with no other than Master Sesshomaru himself. For a second, my yokai jumped and my eyes widened.

"Sesshomaru-sama, my deepest apologies." I begged, bowing down. I really could use a better first impression.

"Hn." he replied. Hn? What was that meant to mean?

"Erm…so...hello. I'm Master Ryokotsu of the Southern Lands. It's a pleasure to meet you." I announced, slightly nervously.

"Hn." he said...again, while he walked away. Ignorant. Think of something, Rin.

I swiftly moved to catch up with him. "Sesshomaru-sama, I would like to invite you to our spring festival!"

Sesshomaru POV

I stopped in my tracks. A spring festival? What is this festival for? "What for?" I asked, curiously.

"It's a festival to welcome spring and the new mating season." Ryokotsu replied. Mating season? I scoffed. 'Mating season,' purred my yokai, excitedly.

"Why should this Sesshomaru make his presence known at such a festival?"

Rykotsu seemed to be taken a back by this question. I saw his eyes look side to side on the ground, as if he was thinking of something to say.

"I think the bandits may make a presence at this festival," he said, quietly. Ha. I could smell the lie.

"I'll see to it." I stated, before walking away.

Why did I say that? I wondered. I have so much work to do at the Palace.

'It's the best time to stay close to mate,'whispered my yokai.

SHUT UP! Rykotsu is not my mate. He is a man. How could man and a man...

My yokai wailed sadly. Look. We are not doing this. We will go to this festival so we can have a break.
