The life of Sesshomaru and Ryokotsu (a.k.a. Rin)
Chapter 8
Normal POV
Later that evening, the pair returned as the festival was to begin properly. Although the sun had already set a few moments ago, the Southern Lands were not filled darkness, but was well lit by lanterns that hung in front of stalls. In the distance they were able to catch a glimpse of the Southern Manor. However, the pair had already been distracted by the raised platform in front of it, which stood out with the numerous amount of fire lit inside it.
"Master Ryokotsu...what is this day of the festival called?" Sesshomaru asked, raising his eyebrows and turning to Rin.
"Today is the Festival of Dreams," Rin replied, facing him slowly and sighed at his expression.
"The festival of dream?" Sesshomaru enquired.
"There is a major event at the start, where the most powerful and handsome daiyoukai is decided," she explained calmly, "See the orb in centre of the platform, it has 2 jobs. One is to detect the strongest auras around it and the other is to see if two inuyoukai are actually meant to be mates."
"I have heard of this orb, but how do they now what the orb is trying to say?" came a feminine voice from behind the pair, making Rin frown slightly.
"Jakotsu how many times have I told you not to dress up as a woman?" Rin shouted as she tuned to face her twin, who wore a light blue kimono with white butterflies around the hem. Despite the raised and deeper tone Rin had put across, all she earned was a small chuckle.
"But I have to say he is quite convincing," commended Tamae, as she stepped beside Rin with a slight smirk.
"You didn't answer my question, Ryo," complained Jakotsu in a whiny tone. At this Jakotsu earned an exhausted sigh from his sister.
"According to Brother Tamayoru, the orb's natural colour is white, but when it detects the most powerful daiyoukai present... it turns black, the 2nd powerful then dark blue and the 3rd would be light blue. When it comes to mating, the orb turns purple if it doesn't find suitable mates, but if it does then the orb turn-" said Rin before a loud voice boomed from the platform, interrupting her. 'Red' she thought, finishing of her sentence in her mind.
"Good evening all inuyoukai gathered in the Southern Lands. It is time that all the daiyoukai males assemble beside the stage for the orb testing," came the voice of Lord Rankotsu.
Obediently, all the daiyoukai including Sesshomaru, Rin and Jakotsu, assembled in a long line of about 50 males.
"Hojotsu, Minor Lord of Ido in the East," announced Toki.
Hojotsu passed the orb...white. Like this many were called up on to the stage one by one. 'White..white...white...white...white...white..white' thought Rin as she watched the orb and waited in the line, patiently. 'Sesshomaru and I would be going up soon. Would the orb still glow for a women?'
"Master Sesshomaru of the Western Lands." Toki announced. There was a sudden gasp from the crowd as Sesshomaru stepped onto the stage. As he proceeded to walk, mutters could be heard complimenting his beauty. As he walked past the orb, it changed colour... 'black' thought Rin as her eyes widened.
"Master Ryokotsu of the Southern Lands." Toki announced. Nervously, Rin, shuffled over to the stage and as soon as she stepped up, loud shrieks could be heard from the women.
"I guess your fans club is here," whispered Jakotsu into her ear before slightly nudging her onto the stage. With more strength and courage Rin walked towards Sesshomaru, who had been staring at the black orb with a look of satisfaction. As soon as he noticed Ryokotsu had stopped a few centimetres next to him, he turned around and walked away. Very few pairs of eyes witnessed the colour of the orb changing red for those few seconds, one being Jakotsu and the others being Lord Rankotsu and Lady Tamayoki.
Ryokotsu/Rin POV
My orb shone a dark blue, luckily. It must have left a good impression on Sesshomaru. I thought happily as I strode proudly, beside Sesshomaru, observing the stalls. There were many coloured kimonos and ornaments, along with accessories to decorate our katanas and others. Tradition is that woman approach a man with a gift and a man bring a woman a gift too, although no one seems to bother with it. Suddenly, my eyes caught a golden hairpin with a lotus flower on it, chains hanging from it. This would look very nice on Tamae. Quickly, I grabbed the pin into my long fingers. Now something for Sesshomaru... My eyes caught a blue crescent moon crest, much like Sesshomaru's. I brought both things, although Sesshomaru didn't notice, as he was distracted by the fireworks in the distance.
"Tamae," I yelled out to her and watched as she gathered her white net kimono, which was decorated with golden patterns, and ran towards me.
"Yes, Ryo," she stated eagerly.
"I have something for you, turn around." I ordered, making her do as I said. I took the pin from under my sleeve and gathered the top half of her hair, making a semi-bun that had hair left to hang down. Carefully, I pinned her hair into place and held my mirror in front of her.
A smile graced her lips and her face flushed bright red, before she ran away shyly.
"Master Ryokotsu, come with me I would like to tell you something." Sesshomaru said as he walked of into the distance. Oh lord. Am I in trouble?
Upon entering the forest, where no ears would pry on us, Sesshomaru turned to face me with a hint of anger in his eyes.
"Sesshomaru? What is wrong?" I asked, placing my hand on his armour, attempting to calm him down, at the same time fearing for my life. However, my touch somehow succeeded and softened his features.
"The man from the foreigners that was left to die in Akiko...I went to learn something about it. I learned this intruder is...he is called a Keikiyaku making him from a city name Kei, in the Other World."
"Kei...I know that land very well. I have heard they don't like demons, so the men must be human." I explained. The city of Kei, was a place Brother Bankotsu used to visit quite often, in his human form.
"Hn. What must we do now? Is it necessary to take action against weak humans?" Sesshomaru enquired.
"I know what you may think, but no matter how much they hate demons. Kei is in the hidden realm, meaning humans are not the only creatures we might face. I think we must investigate more into this...I think I know the right person."
Few hours later
Tamae no mae POV
I have been walking through this village near the city of Kei, with a head covering to hide to silver and black locks. Ryokotsu...why did you send me here? I want to stay by your side... Over hearing conversations, something caught my attention: how many woman have been taken away to their lectures Lord. Although, I didn't think too much of it, it didn't last too long till soldiers came marching down, carrying an flag. This flag is identical to the one Ryo drew. Quickly, I teleported to hid behind a nearby bush were I ca clearly see the event that played before me.
"Hand over more women! This is an order from your Lord!" Commanded the General.
"No! This is enough," shouted a young man, daring to stand up against the army. Without hesitating, the General removed the man's head from his body, making the limb helplessly fall to the ground.
"GO! TAKE THEM AND TIE THEM TOGETHER!" ordered the General.
Seconds later, the men charged to gather numerous young girls and woman to tie together. "Don't get involved in anything. Just report back anything unusual." Ryo's voice rang through my head, as I fought the urge to stop this nonsense. Near me, I heard a group whisper among themselves.
"Haven't they taken enough young women away from our village already?" asked an elderly man.
"With all the girls summoned to the castle not one has come to return," said a younger man in worry.
The girls hands were tied tightly together with a strong rope.
"So the rumours I heard were true after all," I confirmed.
"I wouldn't want it repeated but they said the Lord's been possessed by some kind of demon," whispered some men amongst themselves.
Demon?
Before I could think more, I heard a loud scream to my right. Making me turn my gold eyes to look straight into a pair of horrified brown ones.
"A DEMON!" she yelled, pointing at me. Shit! I forgot my eyes glowed in the dark.
Quickly, I got up and began to run slowly. I could hear them running behind me with their torches. This is interesting. I threw my head covering away, now seeing there was no use of it. They were all surrounding me. I can hear it. I felt myself stop as I saw the number of men surrounding me, ready to attack.
I have to tell Ryokotsu about this. I thought before I gave the men an evil smirk and teleported back to the Southern Lands of Akumahitotoshi.
