Yuta's pov
"I'm not done with the presentation yet. " Demiurge said as a huge curse jumped out of the river and flew right between Yuta and the guardian.
The creature was even bigger than Demiurge and for some reason, it seemed stronger than the guardian himself. With its gigantic claws, it swiped at Yuta who was forced to summon Rita once more.
Rita quickly placed herself under Yuta's foot and was used as support for the jujutsu sorcerer. "You monster! " Yuta screamed as Rita disappeared.
Demiurge's eyes winded when Yuta's speed more than doubled. Yuta barely got into range of the guardian when he immediately attacked.
[Domain Expansion]
Yuta didn't wait for a single second after the domain was created. He quickly brought out the powered-up version of Rita and unleashed a flurry of his strongest attacks.
He attacked and attacked until Demiurge's body lost form and crumbled in front of him. At first, the body changed to a grayish color, before turning into a liquid and then disappearing.
Soon afterward, the Domain was cracked leaving Yuta falling to the floor. 'I won't be able to use Rita for a while and my cursed technique will be unstable too. I'll have to rest up a bit after dealing with the remaining curses and then continue the mission. ' Yuta thought as he looked at the gigantic curse flying toward him.
Yuta quickly glanced at the imps carrying his friends before shedding a small tear. He quickly cleaned his face and turned back into his serious self. "This is not the time. It's not over yet. I have to focus on the mission. " Yuta said to himself.
"Indeed. It's not over yet, but it's not your mission you have to worry about. It's your life. " Yuta heard someone speaking.
'This voice. It can't be! ' Yuta thought as he quickly turned his head to the source. Demiurge was alive and well flying right beside the jujutsu sorcerer.
[Aspect of the Devil: Stout Demon's Gigantic Arms]
Demiurge's arm grew to be many times bigger than originally. It morphed into a huge mass of bone and muscle before the guardian decided to attack.
Yuta placed his blade and whatever cursed energy he had to block the strike, but it was not enough. Thanks to the Domain he had just used, controlling cursed energy was extremely hard. That caused a delay in his defenses.
"Why are you so upset with me? I just killed a few garbage humans that you left behind. Shouldn't you be thanking me for taking out the trash? " Demiurge said as his arm hit Yuta.
The jujutsu sorcerer was thrown to the ground. The impact of his landing caused a few stones to fall into the river. 'It's alive?! How?! ' Yuta thought as he jumped out of the hole.
With one arm broken and no idea concerning Demiurge's return, Yuta had no other choice but to take the fight slowly and carefully, even though all he wanted was to cast his Domain right away and take revenge. However, he could not do so until he rested up for a few hours which left him in a tricky situation.
"Or are you angry with yourself for being too weak and taking too long to get here? " Demiurge said as his arm returned to normal.
'Domain Expansion out of nowhere? Hmmm... So that was the technique the shadow demon described. It was worth losing that doppelganger. ' Demiurge thought as he looked at Yuta. 'Seems like it takes a lot out of the user though, maybe that Gojo is stronger? '
Demiurge had shadow demons lurking around to gather information about the intruders. The numbers were small and he could not spread them too much which left him no choice but to use them to hoard the information for himself. He even chose to not share the information with any other guardian for fear that the shadow demons could be hunted down.
And now, that effort paid off. Yuta, one of the strongest jujutsu sorcerers according to Demiurge's assessment, had taken the bait and used the Domain Expansion. 'What an interesting technique. I can't seem to understand it though, maybe if I could get my hands on him I could get some good data. '
Yuta was left speechless for a second prompting Demiurge to continue taunting him. 'It's gonna take me many hours before I can use my Domain again. I'll have to make do with my sword alone. ' Yuta thought as he started healing his broken arm.
"What is it? " Demiurge said as an imp flew to him and whispered something in his ear. The guardian then sent the imp away by gesturing with his hand before bowing to Yuta. "It pains me to leave like this, but something else requires my attention. Don't worry though, I'll leave my subordinate, Wrath, to keep you company. Farewell. " Demiurge started flying away.
"Wait! " Yuta screamed before jumping, but he was soon cut off by the gigantic curse that immediately punched him backward. "Where the hell you think you're going the fight isn't over! "
"But it is over, Sir Yuta. I won. Now I have someone else to kill so I must bid you farewell. " Demiurge said after stopping, turning to Yuta and giving a final bow. The guardian continued flying until he finally disappeared into the skies.
'Someone else? Who can it be?! ' Yuta thought as he immediately started fighting Wrath. 'I have to catch up to him right away.'
Demiurge, however, didn't have anyone to kill. 'Yes. Become more and more impatient and waste your energy way fighting my minions while desperately searching for me. 'Demiurge thought as he landed near a chair. He set down and started observing the fight from afar using his summon's eyes as cameras.
Megumi's pov
The tremors continued as Gargantua approached the last know location of the intruders. The guardian stopped for a moment until it spotted a blood trail and then it started moving in that direction.
Megumi placed Nobara on the ground. Her left foot had no more toes thanks to the small fish and it was bleeding a lot. He quickly grabbed what looked like a bunch of vines to tie up her leg, only for the vines to suddenly attack. "What?! " Megumi said as his hands were bounded together.
Megumi found himself being dragged into the mouth of a plant monster that suddenly sprout up from the ground. "Megumi! " Nobara said as she threw a nail into the air. She hit the nail as hard as she could and sent it toward the vines holding Megumi's hands together.
The nails were able to cut them a bit which freed his hands.
[Divine Dog]
Divine Dog quickly shredded through the vines and then the curse. Megumi got up and walked to Nobara with the vines so that he could tie them around her leg, but when the curse disappeared, the vines disappeared as well. Making the effort futile.
"Damn it! Everything in here is some type of curse?! " Nobara screamed with all her might which prompted Megumi to cover her mouth.
"Shut up. That thing is still out there. " Megumi said as the earthquakes continued. It was obvious that the guardian was tracking them down and once it caught up... he had no idea how he was going to fight a thing of that size. "Let's find a good hiding place and wait until Gojo beat it. " Megumi said as he made the dog disappear and summoned another shikigami.
Megumi quickly pulled a piece of his own uniform off and used it to tie Nobara's leg. It wasn't the best fit, but it had to do until they either found Hana, the exit, or Ieri.
"Why hasn't Gojo engaged the guardian yet? What's he waiting for? Haaa... I'm in pain over here." Nobara asked Megumi as he tried to help her up.
Their hopes of having Gojo beat the guardian were misplaced and their decision to move on to the fourth layer backfired. The situation was becoming direr by the second.
With every step that Gargantua took, the jujutsu sorcerers were reminded of their doom. Still, they didn't want to give up or flee. 'We just have to wait until Gojo deals with that thing. ' Megumi thought as he summoned his frog shikigami which immediately placed Nobara inside its mouth so that she would no longer leave a trail of blood.
"Gojo must be waiting until it gets in a better position. Let's move to the edges and hide. " Megumi said as he started running. His shikigami followed him right behind.
Maki's pov
Maki got used to fighting the Doom Lords very quickly and within a few minutes, there was no fear that they could get to Ieri. "Keep the exact same distance you have from me at all times, Ieri," Maki said as she swung her blade slashing through a Doom Lord and a Soul Eater at the same time. She quickly kicked the corpses of the monsters to the side and continued walking. The time that it took for them to disappear was greater than the time it took for her to exorcise them.
The group walked together for a good time until they ran into Hakari, who was having a tougher time. "I should have asked for a cursed weapon. Fighting them at their ranges especially when they are mounted is hard. " Hakari explained as he showed the injuries he had accumulated until now.
"Get your ass in the back of the formation and stop giving excuses. " Maki said while she continued plowing forward.
"Alright, ma'am. Take the lead. " Hakari said before Ieri healed him.
The group continued making their way through the third layer without any issues until they finally reached the door. "I'm going ahead then. " Hakari said as he started walking to the fourth layer.
"Wait. " Maki said as she placed herself in his way. "Can you still use your Domain? Do you need to rest a bit? There's no way to tell what we're gonna find once we get past this point. " Maki asked Hakari.
"I'm fine and late. Gojo might be fighting next guardian by now and I don't want to be that far behind anymore. " Hakari said as he moved past Maki and walked forward.
"Be careful, Hakari. " Ieri said as Hakari gave a thumbs up. He entered the teleportation zone and then disappeared.
"We're going to do the same thing we did when we got the third layer, Ieri," Maki said as both of them were about to enter the teleportation zone.
"Alright. " Ieri said as they both entered the room and disappeared.
Yuki's pov
Yuki saw as the guardian finally reached the beach only to suddenly stop. "That's the guardian? It's huge. " Yuki said as she used one of her fingers to block the guardian's form. "Must be 25-30 meters? Something on that ballpark I guess. "
She was standing on top of a huge rock overseeing the entire map with the goal of finding the guardian's room. After a while of searching, she failed to find anything that could house the door.
That is until Gargantua rose from the lake.
Yuki had no way of knowing what caused it in the first place, but once she saw the guardian walking to the shore. She understood where the room is. 'A big room for a big boy. ' Yuta thought as she looked at the walls and the ceiling.
"If the entire layer is the guardian's room... where is the teleportation zone? " Yuki asked herself as she looked at Gargantua.
"Hmmm... " Yuki started scratching her chin.
Megumi's pov
The earthquakes suddenly stopped. Gargantua stopped its pursuit and just stood still in the middle of the beach giving Megumi and Nobara extra time to hide.
None of them had any idea why the guardian stooped moving, but they weren't going to complain. "This is our chance. " Megumi said to Nobara who had a serious face on.
"Hey, Megumi. I hate frogs... did you know that? " Nobara asked Megumi who was frantically running ahead.
"Shut up. I would think your foot would bother you more. " Megumi complained as he continued running.
"I hate frogs... " Nobara mumbled in a small voice. They continued moving deeper into the land heading toward a wall.
Unknown to all of them, the reason that Gargantua stopped moving was to give a chance to the newcomers. The guardian could only move once they were either killed or they had left the lake. That would give the players enough time to get used to the layout and climate as well as give them a good look at Gargantua.
That condition was the only way Ainz was able to find so that he could have a guardian like Gargatua to roam freely in the layer.
Hakari's pov
Hakari was the first one to show up. "What the hell is this place?! " Hakari asked himself. He also didn't expect to find such an open location after the maze, but that change of scenario was welcomed.
The jujutsu sorcerer quickly understood what he had to do as he grabbed the paddle underneath the seats and started making his way to a nearby shore. 'Is that the guardian on the other side of the lake? Holy shit. It's super big, but nothing that Gojo can't deal with. ' Hakari thought as a big shark-looking curse jumped from the water.
Hakari calmly used his cursed technique to create a golden door that covered the pathway to him forcing the curse to slam face-first on the obstacle. 'Are these the curses of this layer? They are way slower than the big skeleton on top of the horse. ' The jujutsu sorcerer continued moving the door so that he could block the curse.
"Still... the guardian isn't hidden at all. Why is Gojo not fighting it? " Hakari thought as he paddled his way to the shore.
Maki's pov
Maki showed up a few seconds after Hakari, but thanks to her enhanced senses, she was actually ahead of him. Within just a few instances she understood where she was and what she had to do.
Both Maki and Ieri started paddling away even before Hakari and since their spawn was a lot better, they were almost out of the lake.
"Maki. " Ieri said as she saw the water leaking inside the boat. Once again, the small piranhas were tearing through the wood.
"Just keep paddling, Ieri. " Maki said as she dropped the paddle inside the canoe. "I'll handle them. " Maki then jumped into the water with her sword over her head.
The moment Maki's body was no longer above the canoe, all of the curses immediately followed her. They positioned themselves right under her in an attempt to devour her as soon as possible.
Some of the curses couldn't wait and decided to jump after Maki who didn't mind. She had four piranhas gnawing at her flesh, but Maki continued focusing on her landing spot.
Once she was about to land on the water, Maki unleashed a powerful downward strike which created a huge disturbance in the water.
A huge water pillar rose from the surroundings where Maki's attack landed which was then followed up by a huge wave that destabilized the canoe for a few moments. "Maki?! " Ieri asked as she turned back for a moment only to see the jujutsu student delivering a flurry of attacks.
Maki quickly slashed through all the curses nearby before she started swimming back to the canoe. Thanks to her strength and the fact that Ieri had stopped to watch the fight, Maki caught up and continued paddling.
"Are you injured? " Ieri asked before she started healing her teammate. Maki didn't respond and instead just showed the missing bits of flesh that the curses had bitten off.
After getting healed, they both continued to paddle until they reached the shore. Once there, they abandoned the boat and started walking to Gargantua. "Shouldn't we wait until Gojo beat the guardian, Maki? We don't have to get involved like this. " Ieri said as she followed Maki.
Maki, however, didn't agree. "Something happened. That idiot Gojo would never let a guardian just stand like that in the open. If he's not fighting it right now, we need to figure out why. " Maki said as she continued making her way to the guardian.
