Bella's POV

I kept expecting to hear a car pull up. My ears strained to hear the crunch of gravel under tyres and the slamming of a car door. So when there was suddenly a pounding on the door the unexpected noise caused me to jolt violently in my seat. Carlisle smiled at me in what I think was meant to be a reassuring way as he left the room to go answer the door. I'm not sure anything could have reassured me in that moment. I couldn't bear to stay seated, and as I heard the front door open I stood up and nervously stood in the middle of the living room.

The rest of the Cullen's were here too, politely ignoring my silent freak-out.

"She's just in here," I heard Carlisle say, his voice sounded deeper, like he held a tone of warning in it.

Jacob appeared in the doorway, Carlisle close behind. He's broad face broke out into a sunny grin, "Bells." He breathed happily, he started to take long strides towards me, large arms open as if to greet me with a hug.

I took two quick steps backwards before my back was suddenly pressed against a familiar chest. Edward's hand came to my hip, his long fingers curled protectively around my side and the firm touch brought me back into my own body, easing my nerves and causing my tightly wound body to relax into his touch. "That's close enough," He warned.

Jacob's face fell into a bitter frown of disappointment. "Was this necessary, Bella?" He sighed as his eyes flickered around to the collection of vampires who were stationed like statues around the room. I couldn't stand his tone, like he was chastising a small child who should have known better. My anxiety melted away under the glowing flame of my rising anger.

"Yes." I bit out, "It is."

"We are just here to ensure Bella's safety," Carlisle intoned, his voice calm and diplomatic.

Jacob looked wounded and he looked at me with such an injured expression, "You know I'd never do anything to hurt you, Bella." He murmured, his voice pleading.

My jaw clenched as I scowled at him, "Stop calling me that!" I snapped angrily, "And in case you missed it, you already have hurt me!" I shouted at him.

"Me!? What about him?!" He shouted back, pointing an accusatory finger at Edward.

"Oh just shut up!" I screeched, Jacob's mouth hung open in shock, he closed it and then opened it to speak before he closed it again. "Better." I snipped. "Now you are going to sit the fuck down and answer my questions or so help me god Jacob Black I'll-"

"You'll what?" Jake interrupted, his dark eyes growing hard and menacing.

"I'll stop being the only thing standing in the way of these vampires tearing you to shreds." I muttered bitterly. I took Edwards hand and sat down on the sofa with an angry grunt. "Sit." I barked.

Jacob eyed me warily as he sat down on the armchair. He sat on the edge of the seat, tense and on edge as if he were prepared to jump up and fight at a moments notice. "You've changed, Bella." He accused.

"Yeah, and whose fault is that." I sneered. "Also, it's Izzie."

Jacob grumbled something that sounded suspiciously like 'they get to call you Bella,' but I couldn't quite make it out so I didn't bother replying to the taunt. "Alright," He muttered darkly, "Ask your questions."

I nodded as I felt my heart slow its rapid beating, a yelling match was not how I wanted this to begin, but regardless I would still get the answers I came for. "Tell me about the accident. What happened?" I demanded.

"Accident?" Jacob scoffed, "Bel-Izzie, it was no accident."

"What are you talking about?" I asked weakly,

"What is it that you remember, exactly?" Jacob asked warily, clearly dodging my question by asking his own.

I wanted to snap at him that I didn't have to answer his questions, that he was here to answer mine, but I bit my lip and held my tongue. Getting into another shouting match wouldn't help, "I remember driving with my Dad, and then the truck was rolling and there was glass everywhere. There was fire…" I tugged at the hazy memories in my brain, "The smell of gasoline, and then I saw three giant wolves, and then you were there, pulling me out of the wreckage."

Jacob looked pained, "It wasn't an accident. You were driving to the rez when you were attacked."

"Attacked?" I echoed in confusion.

"By the redheaded vampire. Victoria."

The name reverberated around my skull, the image of a deathly pale woman with hair the colour of fire flashed across my mind. "Victoria." I murmured. A sharp pain stabbed in my head, shooting through my temples and behind my eyes, nausea roiled in my gut as the burn of bile inched its way up my throat.

"Bella?" Edward's voice was filled with worry, but sounded so far away, muted, like I was listening to him from underwater. Black spots danced across my vision and I blinked rapidly, trying to clear them. "Carlisle, I think it's happening again." Edward sounded even further away now, a mumbled whisper brought to me on an unreliable breeze. The world around me tilted horribly, causing me to feel terribly dizzy – I tried to correct myself, to find some measure of balance in the world, but all I managed to do was tilt dangerously to the side until I was free-falling.

Darkness. Shapeless darkness. And then there was a burst of light.

I was driving, my hands on the steering wheel in a white-knuckle grip.

"I don't like this, dad." I heard myself mutter.

"It's the only thing we can do, Bells. You tried leaving town and Victoria killed Renee trying to get to you."

The blurry image shifted and I saw my father sitting in the passenger seat, a serious frown marring his face. More words came, but it was as if there was a lag time between the sound and the movement of my father's mouth, everything felt distorted. "I'll keep looking for any sign of the Cullen's, they'll be able to help us. Besides, this is their mess, they should come clean it up."

"Don't. Please dad. Edward left, he was very clear about not wanting to see me anymore. Jake and the others are confident they can deal with Victoria. So please, just… stop looking for them."

"I know that he hurt you, Bells, but that boy has a lot to answer for."

"Stop it!" the words were mine, shouted in my voice, but I couldn't recall ever saying them. "I'm done talking about this with you and-"

"Bella! Watch out!"

The images blurred once more – the dashboard of my truck, the rain-splattered windshield, and a vampire with hair the colour of fire standing in the middle of the road. Victoria stopped the truck with one hand, the tyres screeched loudly against the wet tarmac.

And then we were flying.

The shattering of glass, the crunch of broken metal, the howling screams of my father, all blended together into a macabre symphony of sound.

Then, silence, just for a single endless moment that existed outside of time, the only thing I could see was the spiderweb of broken glass in front of me. A single moment of relentless silence, before there was a spark and the roar of flames engulfed everything.

A/N: Sorry for the wait! I know it's been forever but to be fair I lost my home in the feb floods last year and then I had to move and still keep up with my uni work and I was only barely keeping up with my other fics so this one kind of fell away. Hope you guys enjoyed the chapter, even tho it was pretty short.
